Ever After High: The Secret Diary of Apple White

Rate this book
Dear Diary,

A prank at Ever After High went royally wrong and turned the school into a spelltacular mess. When I tried to help, I ended up making everything worse! Now Headmaster Grimm thinks I was in on it with Kitty Cheshire, Lizzie Hearts, and Faybelle Thorn, and we’re all on castle clean up duty!

As punishment for the prank, the most enchanting dance of the year has been canceled, and fables are spreading that it’s all my fault. But maybe I can still save the day-and the dance-if we fix up the school in time! Let’s just hope we can finally see crown to crown…

Charm you later,

Don’t you just love when a book reels you in, forces you to ride a roller coaster of emotions, and demands that you turn the page? That is what the magical story Ever After High: The Secret Diary of Apple White was for me. I am not a big fan of the character Apple but the novel is more than just a day in her life. It is about how she was at the wrong place at the wrong time. It also focuses on the unfairness that she dealt with. Heather Alexander made the story so it will leave the reader with an understanding that people can change. The format is (as Maddie would say) wonderlandiful! The switching of perspectives makes this a masterpiece. The way I questioned what I would do in every character’s place shows the impeccable attention to detail. That is why I recommend this suspenseful book to people who love fairy tales, who are young at heart, or those who need a reminder that even if something looks out of reach, try, for the sake of others.

I liked this book because the characters showed compassion for each other. In the beginning, Apple gets framed by Faybell and gets in trouble letting the mice go in the Castletria. Apple's punishment is to clean up the Grimansium and Castleteria. The Enchanted Forest Dance is also cancelled. Apple and the girls who framed her make friends while they are cleaning. Apple convinces the headmast to bring back the dance. But she broke a rule so she cannot go to the dance. In the end, Raven and the girls who framed Apple throw a secret dance in the broom closet so Apple can attend. Then Headmaster Grimm catches them and punishes them with no dessert for a week. But he let's finish the secret dance. The girls were really compassionate because they went through all that work and getting punished to help Apple. I think this a nice book about friendship.

This book was ok but it wasn't great. I didn't really like this author's writing for this series. They took some of the fun word changes and things that were done in the previous two series and overdid them. It became very distracting. Also the characters weren't written very well and a lot of the writing was really choppy. The biggest problem I had with this book though was the fact that it would randomly cut off from telling a story to do a diary entry by Apple White that would fill in some pieces before going back to the story. I really wasn't impressed with this book and was really sad that it wasn't as good as the last series I read in the Ever After High books.

It is a simple and beautiful story, but very superficial. I hoped that in this book, being a "diary" it would go much deeper into the Apple's character. I was hoping for some explanation about the high expectations placed on her, her controlling mother, the pressure she may feel, any of those things, because being a diary, she would write those things she feels and thinks but never says out loud. And no, none of that. It's so absurdly simple that it hurts. Everything revolved around one of the thousand and one balls they do at school. It was an area of opportunity thrown away.

Apple was nice as the protagonist, she gave me some tenderness, however suddenly I got the impression that her diary entries were written by a younger girl than Apple is supposed to be. Another big flaw is that the situation was resolved very simply and bordering on anticlimactic. Some characters went out of their usual behavior in favor of the plot, which was forced.

The most memorable thing in the book is the chaos in the "Castleleria" or whatever it's called, but I assume, that wasn't the point.

Ever After High's trademark slang, those lousy, repetitive, cringe puns, seemed more recurring than usual to me. Really, they are horrible, they make reading cloying and difficult to carry out.

Even though I am not the intended audience for these books I really enjoy reading Ever After High books and this one doesn't disappoint. Likeable characters, good message about keeping a good attitude and how that can draw people to you and make a bad situation tolerable. Recommend this one.

Serviceable. But I'm really beginning to believe that EAH creators will never resume the main storyline from the three Shannon Hale novels.

A cute little story about Apple White. I thought it would just be filled with diary entries, but it wasn't. It included other characters from Ever After High as well.

I personally don't like Apple in the first place, so I guess you could say I went in bias. Other than that, the book was good. I didn't particularly like the way it ended, but that was just me.

It is an universally acknowledged fact that every single eah book is cute. Apple's secret diary is no exception, for you are drowning in the heaps of cuteness it throws at you.

You should know the story of me ordering and reading this candy in book form. Originally, I ordered it in May as a birthday present to myself. It had not arrived. some black hole ate my apple diary like it did to the Thorn prince I won ages ago. So I let amazon know what happened. Kudos to them they did not question whether i am talking the truth or not and sent me a new package. This second attempt arrived in good condition and sooner than expected. hallelujah!

Now you should be aware of another thing. I love Cosmere. I consider Brandon Sanderson to be one of my favorite authors. Reading new released Mistborn books is like coming home to me.
Incidentally, I discovered that the best time for me to read epic fantasy is in summer. So I'm in the middle of reading Elantris.
However. Once this sweet praline of a short story came to me I put the Cosmere novel down! and read The secret diary of Apple White. Because I can read an Ever After High story anytime. ;)
