Just for Fun: Drawing More than 100 fun and simple step-by-step projects for learning the art of basic drawing by Lise Herzog This is an incredible drawing book for beginners like me. I just ordered this book! It has so many step-by-step projects for so many wild animals, domestic animals, body parts, and flowers/trees. With just starting with simple shapes, from there instructions lead to a complete drawing. This is a beginner's book. This is a great starter book to get someone going and show them they can do it and really make art! LOVE it! Thanks NetGalley,Quarto and Walter Foster Publishing for letting me read this great book!
Here we have a very nice book that helps you to practice with different shapes and styles. It presents a small guide at the beginning with different materials we can use for drawing (pens, pencils, indian ink, etc), and then we go over to drawing. We have a section which includes different animals, such as cats, felines, dogs, horses... Then we have a section about humans and clothing, facial expressions; and then we move to nature and forces of nature such as forests, water, etc. And we even have a bit on perspectives and POW. It's a very complete book that covers a lot of ground in an easy direct way, ideal for beginners or people who want to practice a bit (or a lot haha).
I love how this book is really set on helping beginners learn to draw. As someone who's struggled with drawing, I really appreciated how each piece was broken down into basic shapes and slowly morphed into objects such as animals, nature sceneries and people. I took my time with the Drawing Nature section because I really liked how I was able to understand how to draw flowers and trees.
I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to explore their creative side with drawing and sketching. It's very easy to follow and fun to do.

I love drawing and actually coloring in pictures. Although I will never be a Picasso or Rembrandt I always try to learn new techniques. Living objects have always a problem for me and other than a few caricature-like efforts my dogs, horses, etc. needed help dreadfully. Lize Herzog has managed to give instructions that are easy to understand to improve budding artists talents like mine.
If you too want to learn how to draw beyond the stick figure stage, then you may want to check out Just for Fun: Drawing. It contains simple to follow, step by step instructions with plenty of illustrations to keep you on tract. Perfect for beginners or someone who just wants to improve their abilities to draw certain objects such as trees or cats.
My rating of Just For Fun - Drawing is 5 out of 5 stars.
"Just for Fun: Drawing" is an art book to help beginners learn how to draw. It combined text describing what to do and why you do it with simple, step-by-step drawings. This allows the person to learn how to draw cats in general, for example, not just the pose shown in the book.
I'd recommend this as a good beginner artist book for tweens and teens (or older). It's done in a style that should keep a younger person interested, but it also taught some basics found in adult drawing books. So we learn how to draw basic shapes--in perspective--and how to add simple texture and shading.
The book began by describing what drawing tools to use, and you can start out with as little as a common pencil and a sheet of computer paper. Other tools were described, but you don't have to start fancy. We then get the step-by-step "add a circle here and here, combine the shapes, add some texture" instructions. These usually involved four steps that were easy to understand and weren't complex to draw.
We're taught to draw animals like cats, big cats, dogs, wolves, rabbits, horses, cow, and birds. There were brief descriptions on how to draw people standing and in motion, the parts of the body, and clothing. And we learn to draw nature in part (like a tree, flower, or water) or as a whole landscape drawing. The finished drawings should look recognizable without being complex to draw.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Just for Fun: Drawing by Lise Herzog is a compilation of 100 different projects to tackle to learn the art of drawing well by really looking at the world and life around you and picking out their shapes. The illustrations show the step by step development of a drawing from the basic shapes and lines to full on texture and shading. This book is great for young people who desire to learn more about art and improve their drawing skills, or even adults who want to draw but need a few pointers to get started. The drawing drills cover a multiplicity of areas: textures, lines, value, perspective, and much more. This does not talk down to the reader, as the wording is sparse and simple with easy to follow directions, and illustrations that teach and inspire the young or old artist to look as they draw.. It shows figures without nudes, still life and landscape. This is a comprehensive book of drawing. Great for tweens, teens, home educators, art teachers, public libraries, and the person seeking to hone their skills. I have a very old book that is similar that was my mother's and it inspired me to pursue art. This looks to do the same.
This is a nice book for beginner artists. If any of the sections are lacking, I would say it is the tools section. It is very vague in its descriptions of said tools and why you might choose one over the other (ex. the entire section on ballpoint pens is this: "Ballpoint pens are round and soft, and enjoyable to use for drawing. These pens allow you to draw very thin, light lines or thicker ones.").
The actual drawing tips are broken into the following sections: Animals People Nature Static subjects Taking flight
It's definitely well presented and will definitely help a beginner to expand their skills. Good for children and adults both.
Just for Fun Drawing by Lise Herzog is part of the Just for Fun series, and is a great how-to book for aspiring artists or any beginner wanting to learn how to draw. Most of the book focuses on animals, but there are also sections on how to draw nature and people. At the beginning of the book, Herzog discusses the different materials and tools to use for drawing -which I found very helpful. The instructions were easy to follow and short, which is perfect for young kids and beginners. Overall, a great resource for kids and adults who are either just learning to draw or would like to improve their skill. Recommended for ages 5 and up!
Considering the high reader review's of Lise Herzog's Just for Fun: Drawing, I chose to take a look at the book as one of a small library of beginner art books for my 5th grade granddaughter's Christmas present. I was very impressed with the simple and easy to follow step-by-step instructions so much that I practiced drawing before wrapping it up. You will find it a great stepping stone in learning to create artistic drawings. This book has lots of information about breaking things down into the basic shapes of whatever it is you are wanting to draw. I liked the directions for how to work with horizontal planes and vanishing points. My son will love reading through this and looking at the illustrations that are clearly showing the steps to take. I expect to have him bringing me all kinds of drawings in the next few days, and I can't wait.

I love how this book has summed up almost all the important points on how to draw animals, humans, nature and statuary items. It didn't show how to draw a particular object in a step by step method but it gave an outline of how it can be drawn with our own changes that we can make. It sometimes gave comparison between two slightly similar looking objects and how they differ when drawn, like horse and donkey, cats and big cats and so on. I will most definitely use this book to improve my drawing skills.
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. Thank you!!
This book is filled with step by step instructions on the drawing. As a beginner, I enjoyed all of the exercises. The author does a good job of breaking it down into simple shapes to begin you're drawing.
A fun little book if you are interested in drawing, but don't really know how to start. There are some fun ideas here to get you started and it's a breeze to get through the exercises included.
Good book. It gives an idea of basic drawing needs and then goes on to explain techniques to draw animals, birds, humans, clothing, landscapes and rooms. It has simple to follow steps.
