Cocky, rich, and aimless, Jake Ferry would want more out of life, if believed there was more than cars, the gym, and endless money in the bank. When his mercenary father targets me, local entrepreneur Janie Hall, I refuse to play his game. But when danger and desire mix, and my defenses crumble, I know that loving Jake Ferry could burn everything to the ground.
Janie Hall doesn’t take a fall for anyone. But I’ll make her fall for me.
I’ve always had the best of everything. She’s too good for me, but when has that ever stopped me before? Ever since I laid eyes on her, I knew I had to make Janie mine, whether it was for a night, or a weekend. And it’ll let me prove to my father that I’m ten times the man he is. I figure I’ll have her begging for more in no time. But when we feel the heat of each other’s bodies, it threatens to burn me up.
Heat is a sexy romance with steam! It’s a full-length standalone novel with an HEA and scenes that will burn up your kindle!
For books like these I wish goodreads would allow me to give negative stars. Hate it when I see goodreads rating that is soooo high and than in the end I'm so disappointed that I just want to scream at someone. I'm still trying to figure what was it that Jake's father wanted him to do? How did he think he was gonna destroy her business if Jake was publicly in a relationship with Janie? Then next thing that left me confused was.... what was it she got mad at him about when they were at that beach house??? Too many things happened in too short period of time... And seriously.... "you are approximately three weeks pregnant"??? Who finds out she's pregnant after three weeks? The average length of human gestation is 280 days, or 40 weeks, from the first day of the woman's last menstrual period. And she was already two weeks late before she went to hospital.... c'mon... it's all there on google if you don't already know it... All in all sloppy, unimaginative, hasty.... waste of time as far as I'm concerned. I never write reviews (cos I'm not English speaking and it's hard for me to formulate it all in English) but I was so annoyed at the end of this book that I just had to.
DNF at 30%. Hero not for me. He is too beta and is not taking a strong enough stand against his father. He's still not fighting to get the heroine at this point.
I just finished reading HEAT: A Bad Boy Romance, by Jess Bentley. I’m new to her writing so I wasn’t sure how I would like her style. The story is about a man named Jake Ferry who has father issues like you wouldn’t believe. Not only is Jake’s father a real piece of work: narcissistic, domineering, power-hungry, controlling, and oblivious to everyone around him, he also has no clue to his relationship with his son. Jake, like most people, need to figure out who they are and what they want out of life.
That’s when our heroine, Janie Hall, starts to affect Jake’s life. After all, she grew up poor, from a dysfunctional home, has her own daddy and step-daddy issues, and a severe issue with trust. She is so used to doing everything on her own with no support.
Jake and Janie have people on their sides; HOWEVER, they also have many people against them – family and friends. Is there a chance for these two to find a way forward?
Jess Bentley is “a straight forward this is how it is” writer. She writes in common language that all her readers can enjoy. Her scenes leave you wanting more. The story flows from one chapter to the next without any jarring breaks that some writers struggle.
I’ve enjoyed this story enough that I’m willing to look at more of her work. One just needs to understand that her writing is for mature (18+) audiences.
I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed. The opinion expressed is my own, not influenced by anyone or anything other than my reaction to the story read.
I felt Heat was Real in that Janie was an independant woman who did not need anyone to give her things, she wanted what she accomplished herself. Jake wanted the same thing but his controlling father did not want to let go of the reins he had on Jake then he finally realized that he needed to break the hold his father had just so he could be the man he wanted & needed to be so he could have Janie.
This book wasn't one of my favorites by Jess. There was no real connection between the two main characters. It went from enemies to instalove with no real reasoning other than great sex and a automatic pregnancy. It came with another book so it was worth the money.

This was a great story. I liked Janie's personality and how she was not going to depend on a man no matter what! Jake grew and evolved as a person to become the man Janie deserved.
Live this story bad boy trying to do his father's bidding dependent girl doing it on her own. Can opposites attract or if this destined to fail. Yeah love it
I just finished reading Heat. It is my 1st Jess Bentley book. As a whole I enjoyed the characters and most of the story line, but there is definitely a little confusion about what Jake's father actually expects Jake to do to destroy Janie's business. I will definitely read another Jess Bentley book.
This was a quick read. I really enjoyed Janie and her take NO BS attitude, especially when it comes to Jake. Rich boy Jake is his father's errand boy. They want to take out Janie's business but she doesn't give up. I love a strong female lead that just won't roll over. Yes, but she does get caught up in lust with Jake but who wouldn't. Jake is finally opening his eyes and sees what is really important in life after spending time with Janie. This was a good story. You felt Janie's feelings for Jake, her feelings towards Gloria, which I completely agree. It does end with a HEA and it was a perfect ending.
Jake Ferry likes the perks of having an endless bankroll, thanks to his rich dad, but doesn't want to be anything like the ruthless man his father is and yet can't find it in himself to fully stand up to him. When his father assigns him to ruin the owner of Red Hall, the restaurant across the street from the latest Ferry Lights club Jake's life will change in ways he wouldn't have imagined. Janie Hall started the Red Hall within a year of graduating school and has built a successful business, but her personal life is a mess. A mom that struggles with panic attacks, a stepdad that is, to put it nicely, a tool, brothers that crave their stepdad's approval and a dad who she is attempting to reconnect with. When Jake comes into the Red Hall she can admit to finding him attractive, but when he suggests a relationship to help with both their PR she kindly asks him to leave. What follows next is a string of bad luck, unknowingly to her, thanks to some interventions by Reginald Ferry. Jake can't get Janie out of his head and when told to try harder by his father he does, but never imagined by trying to get her to fall for him he would fall for her. Janie and Jake's story isn't easy, but so worth it for them when all the truths come out and both admit to wanting it to work for the long hall. I loved this book! I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first time reading Jess Bentley and let me just say I really liked this book! The plot will reel you in if the sexy characters don't!
Janie Hall owns a very successful restaurant/bar called Red Hall Eatery & Lounge. She had to fight the men in town, including her stepfather and brothers, that doubted her ability to turn something out of nothing into a huge success. But without help from anyone else, she was able to make her dream come true. Janie is all about hard work and doesn't really have time for relationships.
The opposite can be said for Jake Ferry. He runs a place across the street called Ferry Lights. Well that might be giving him more credit than he is due. His dad built the place and Jake just shows up for appearance purposes. He doesn't have to work for anything, it is just handed to him on a platter. When his father sics Jake on Janie to charm her out of her business, things don't go how he expects them. Janie isn't one to just fall at his feet or to be attracted to him for his money. She in fact despises his family for how they have taken out smaller businesses in the area. Add that to the fact that he views her as intensely attractive, Jake has his work cut out for him in order to do his father's bidding.
Sometimes hate can turn into liking that turns into something more. Is that going to be possible for Janie and Jake, or are they so different that they will never be able to bridge the gap?
Janie is a much stronger character compared to Jake. She doesn't back down from a challenge and fights for what she wants and what she believes in. It takes a bit longer for Jake to "grow up" and get to where he wants to be as a person. There's a lot more going on besides just the rivalry between their two businesses. They both have their own family drama to attend to which helps with shaping the characters and makes a good backstory. Definitely a great first book!!
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**
Main Character’s Descriptions: Janie Hall grew up without much at all. She helps take care of her anxiety ridden mother and is the owner of Red Hall.
Jake Ferry is a spoiled rich guy who pretty much does what his annoying father tells him too.
Summary paragraph: Janie is running Red Hall and tending to her mother. Jake is asked by his father to try to get Janie to sell him Red Hall pretty much by any means necessary.
What happens when both Janie and Jake give into the Heat between them? Does she sell Red Hall or does she tell Jake to take a hike?
This is a very well written story. I received an ARC for an honest review.
I loved this book and it was such an easy, fast paced read! Jake is the bad boy that you hate to love. Janie is the hard-working independent woman with a tough personal history. The dialogue was quick witted, easy flowing, and so much fun to read. This was a fun, sexy, fast paced, and refreshing read. It's not quite your typical bad boy/billionaire meets hard working middle income female.
This was my first by this author and it will for sure not be my last. ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
I started Heat last night and couldn't put it down until I was finished! I definitely enjoyed this book. Janie Hall is a strong, independent woman who works hard for what she has all on her own. She doesn't take help from others and prides herself for being able to stand on her own two feet. She owns and runs Red Hall Lounge, a popular restaurant. She has loyal employees, for the most part, who want the best for Red Hall. Jake Ferry is the son of Reginald Ferry, a ruthless business man who wants to force Red Hall to close so he can take that spot for another business. He already opened Ferry Lights across the street from Red Hall even though there was a better location somewhere else. He did it just to spite Janie, and she knows it. Jake Ferry is sent by his father to get on the inside with Janie and take her business down. Jake is tired of being his father's lackey and wants to break free of his father's narcissistic control. If he does that he could be out on the street without any money. Janie and Jake aren't supposed to be friendly to each other, fraternizing with the enemy is big no no for Janie and all of her employees. Janie can't let her feelings go and Jake can't bring himself to continue to sabotage Janie's restaurant. You definitely need to pick up Heat to find out how Jake handles his father and Janie handles both Ferry men coming for her! I absolutely loved their HEA at the launch party, especially when she was finally able to fire Gloria! I highly recommend this book. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this story. It was a well written story with interesting characters. Janie has a lounge that she has opened and it has been doing very well. Jake's father has decided to open up a lounge directly across the street from Janie. Jake's father is a business tycoon and he is not a nice person. He doesn't care about playing by the rules or fair or what he has to do to get his way. Jake, has been dragged along his whole life by his father. Jake knows it's wrong and struggles with his morality and what his father expects him to do. Jake's father has decided that he wants to run Janie out of business and it finally seems to be the final straw for Jake. He has a hard time doing what his father wants to Janie because she is a good, honest, and just a genuine person. Jake has to figure out which way he's going to go. I thought that this story was good. It had enough going on in it to keep my attention the entire time. Things seem to move a little quickly between Jake and Janie but they seem to know each other from before the book starts so it makes it a little easier to believe. I thought they were both likeable characters as well which helps, Janie more so than Jake. There's a few little twists in the story that I wasn't quite expecting. Overall, it was an enjoyable read and it would be interesting to get some more stories from the characters in Janie's lounge.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a well written, engrossing and dramatic story. The characters are captivating, the storyline is entertaining and I enjoyed reading it. The end was very rewarding.
When a new lounge opens across from Red Hall Eatery, Janie knows that there might be a downslide for the time being in sales, but she never expected the problems that occur. Jake Ferry is a known playboy, but one look at Janie makes him rethink that, the only problem is Jake's father wants him to seduce her to cause more problems for Red Hall. When Jake agrees to do as his father bids, he starts to fall for her little by little. When Janie discovers the reason Jake has shown an interest in him she leaves him. Will the surprise miracle Janie discovers bring them back together? Will Jake finally be able to stand up to his father?
Love a great bad-boy romance and this was one! Felt sorry for Jake and Janie because you could truly feel that they just wanted to make the people important to them proud. Loved how Janie wasn't some lost damsel whom actually needed Jake, she was strong and determined to do it all on her own. I think in the end she proved to Jake that he could do what he wanted without his father. Great story, can't wait to read more from this author!

I received as an ARC in exchange for a free and unbiased review
This book was a really good read... Janie is a women doing everything in her power to be everything for everyone. The best daughter, the owner of the best restaurant, a good friend and sister. And no matter what she does, it just never seems like enough... Then you have Jake. Always in his father shadow, having to do everything his father wants, rather it is because he feels he has to, or because he is just programed like that... Jake makes no decisions himself. Until Daddy tells him to start messing with Janie's business. These two characters have some wonderful chemistry and Janie will fight till the end for what she wants..
From all the hype I'd seen, I expected this story to be a lot more...more as in stronger characters, greater depth with regards to plot development, and just more.
Maybe I've read too many bad boy romances, but this one was just too generic for me. It's not a bad story; just one I've read too many times before. It was just too much like a "fill-in-the-blank" for me.
Even though this book fell short for my tastes, it might be really good for you. I'd encourage you to get this book so you can decide for yourself. Just because this one did not resonate with me, it still could be right up your alley
I'm looking forward to the next book . I fully intend to give this writing duo another shot!
I didn't like Jake at the start of this book, I felt he was a push-over and would do anything his father told him to do - regardless of if he agreed with it or not. Janie is competition, competition that Jake's father wants to be rid of - at any cost. However, Janie has balls and she's fighting to keep what she's made.
This was a pleasant & enjoyable read. Jake has redeeming qualities and he doesn't want to be the one to break Janie. You see that in Jess's writing in the story. There are a few parts that make me laugh and I absolutely loved the ending to this story. I don't think there could have been a better way to finish it!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
New Author who I think will do well if this book is anything to go by , you do not want to put it down! Janie Hall worked hard to get what she has accomplished by herself she is the owner of Red Hall Lounge, a popular restaurant that she runs herself. Reginald Ferry is not a nice man he opened Ferry Lights across the street from hers just for spite and he wants her property. Jake Ferry is his son and he has been told to find a way to get the land. Will these two find away to stop Reginald , what happens. I was gifted a copy for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book!! I really wanted to dislike Jake Ferry from the get go. He was cocky, arrogant and a puppet for his father. Janie Hall was a hard working woman who did it herself!! Jake's father wanted him to take out her business at any cost. His plan backfired!! You can't bring down an intelligent stubborn woman. Jake decides to break free from his controlling father and tries to get Janie back. Many twists and turns for the couple!!! Will their hearts survive?
Really enjoyed this book. Didn't want to put it down and finished it in two days. Janie is a hard knocks life kind of girl that went out and put herself through college and started a successful restaurant/lounge. Jake is a rich kid bad boy that never worked in his life. Jake's evil billionaire father wants her building, wants her ruined and wants his son to do it or lose his inheritance. *I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review*
I received an ARC for an honest review! I honestly loved this book even if it took me forever to read it! I loved that Jake wasn't the cold hearted person his dad wanted him to be and that him and Janie had a HEA in the end of the book. I was just sad that we weren't able to see more of their story once they were in an established relationship. I hope for more Jake and Janie in the future but if not I look forward to more stories by the author. :)
I received an ARC for an honest review. This is the first time I have read this authors work, and my word, it will not be the last. This is the story of Jake, who is the typical rich bad boy, who lives in her father’s shadow. Janie is independent, hard working, likeable, and has had a tough past. I loved the banter between these two characters. This is a fun, sexy, fast paced read. I loved it! I recommend this authors work for all, and cannot wait to read more of this authors work.
Great read!! I loved the characters and the twists that the author included. The story was just the right pacing! I had a fuller review at mirelasbookreview.blogspot.com.
I loved the ending and while I did not stay up all night to read it, I felt very satisfied. I did not want the story to end I wanted there to be so much more! I would recommend this to any bad boy romance reader!
I did receive a ARC copy for a fair and honest review.
Did not like. Slow book, nothing at all like the title portrays. I stopped at chapter 15 because even though the story was okay, I felt like I was 'waiting' for something bigger to happen. It is a book about competition with two stores, a box store and a local store, a father figure of the 'boy' who has this vendetta against the little store 'girl'. THis goes on for the fourteen chapters. I just got tired of it.
