“You can't go through life alone.
Trust me on this one. It's lonely as hell.”

Short and satisfying.

Celena, a Squire, who lives for the rules, is in constant worry for the ones under her care, and does everything to ensure their safety. It is especially true for Rafael, for whom she has been longing secretly for years.

Rafael Santiago, an ex-pirate, now Dark-Hunter is fascinated by Celena’s fierce beauty, and strict protectiveness. After an almost fatal, but luckily ended adventure they confess their feelings for each other, and live happily ever after.

I’m amazed again by the fact that Ms. Kenyon is able to jam incredibly many things into only a couple of pages: humor, background story, emotions, a Daimon attack, an Apollite wedding, surprises, action, erotica, and Acheron. Nicely done! Too bad it is short.

My favorite quotes.

Rafael Santiago (Dark Hunter and immortal pirate) & Celena (Squire and human)

Rafael really likes Celena, but he is not allowed to touch because she is a Squire. Not his Squire, but it doesn't really matter.
When his Squire, Jeff, gets into trouble and Celena is chosen by their council to find Jeff and bring him in for punishment, Rafael sees the perfect apportunity to approach her and seduce her.

It is not a bad story, but I think it tries too hard to be funny (Jeff's idiocy, Celena' paranoia, Daimons and Apolytes' wedding etc.). Unsuccessfully most of the times.

This was a fun novella set in the Dark-Hunter world. It was originally published in the "My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding" anthology, but I listened to the audio version which was recently released in the Dark Bites anthology.

This followed the story of the Dark-Hunter Raphael, a one time pirate. His lazy and generally incompetent current squire Jeff finds his life in danger after he decides to publish a fictional book series that is a barely disguised rip-off of the Dark-Hunters and their war with the Daimons. The Squire council unsurprisingly take a dim view of this breach of their rules and sends another squire to arrest Jeff. While Raphael agrees that Jeff is a total idiot he thinks that imprisonment or death would be a bit harsh so he strikes a deal with Celena, the attractive and capable, but extremely paranoid and uptight squire who comes to collect Jeff - Spend a week with as his squire and prove that she can resit breaking any of the squire laws. If she fails she leaves Jeff alone and if she succeeds Raphael will reveal where he is hiding Jeff.

I loved the dynamic between Raphael and Celena. They were polar opposites, but despite that they both offered each other the balance that was missing in their life. It was also pretty fun watching poor Raphael suffer the shock of the switch from a lazy and barely interested squire to one that wanted to monitor his every action in order to maximize his safety.

This was a fun read and I have a feeling it could have been even better if it had been a full sized novel as the only flaw is the romance felt a touch rushed.

Rating: 3.5 stars.

Audio Note: This was narrated by Fred Berman who always does a great job with the books he narrates in the Dark-Hunter series.

This was kind of blah. I have read other short stories from kenyon that were good. This one had no action, no bonding before the I love you. Felt like fanfiction, and not good fanfiction. The last few things I have read by her have been not great, some down right terrible. I know she has a League series also. I may give that a shot because this is not what it used to be.

Short and sweet, this is the story of Rafael, dark-hunter and previous pirate lord, and Celena, squire hell-bent on obeying all the rules.

When the opportunity arises for Rafael to bet Celena into breaking a rule in hopes of spending more time with her and finally managing to seduce her, he is eager to take it, not expecting her to drive him crazy by being excessively protective and micromanaging his whole life.

Thankfully, and her excessive worry ends up , and the two eventually get their happily ever after.

The series continues with Unleash the Night and a were-hunter story.

Vampires and squires getting together seems interesting. Hope Jeff will get out of jail soon. Rafael and Celena were very cute. Thought it was awesome that Rafael used to be a pirate.

This is a quick love story about Rafael and Celena. We met Rafael back in Sins of the Night. There really isn't much of a background on him but we do know that he is well was a pirate and that he is currently a Dark-Hunter. Celena is somebody who comes from a long long long family of Squires but she has had a bad go around when it comes to being a Squire for somebody.

She is introduced because Rafael's Squire is writing up 'fiction' but based on the life of Raphael. He isn't supposed to do that so Celena is called into make sure he stops writing because keeping their secret is integral of keeping everyone alive.l.

Since she has lost a couple of Dark-Hunters she starts to have a phobia which manifest into over-analyzing and a compulsion of making sure that each Dark-Hunter she serves is protected and prepared for anything that may or may not happen. But with Raphael it is more than just making sure he is okay.

My rating for this book is 3.0 stars.

Jamás toques a tu Escudero.

Se requiere de pocos dias para que los dos decidan que prefieren vivir juntos para siempre siendo mortales medianamente normales, a ser separados por violar una de las reglas. Ademas descubren que son el uno para el otro.

2.75 Stars. (BW/BM). Audiobook with narration by Fred Berman. Paranormal romance. The hero, Rafael Santiago is a Dark-Hunter; formerly, a Black Spanish Pirate. Celena is a human Squire who comes from a long line of Caribbean Squires. Celena has had a couple of Dark-Hunters killed during her tenure as their Squire which had made made her very cautious and by the rules oriented;on the other hand, Rafael plays it loose and appears to take risk. When she is placed on loan to Rafael while his new Squire is up to par, Rafael plans to seduce Celena. As it turns out, each has been in love with the other for a long time; but the rules forbid Hunters and Squires from being in intimate relationships. The 2 hour audiobook did not devote time in developing these characters or their relationship; they got a HEA in the end.

Includes Shadow of the Moon short story following this one.

3.5 stars

I feel like I'm reading this sooner than I should as I was introduced to Raphael briefly in Sins of the Night when Danger and Alexion run into him. I'm left wondering more about Celena's background and her family and that I've missed out by reading this at this time.

Otherwise, I really did enjoy that she's a rule follower and a bit over the top control freak. A complete opposite from former pirate, turned Dark Hunter Raphael. I have to admit that I found myself LOL over the opening confrontation between Raphael and his Squire, Jeff.

It is very important to me to get into the book and feel the characters,so when I discover a writer/an author who has the ability to cause me to feel that way I am sure to delve into their novels and thus far Sherrilyn Kenyon has not let me down, this book has been a great journey in reading.

Phenomenal,I saw the characters, felt like I was the atmosphere surrounding them at all times thus knowing everything about them,I am looking forward to traversing through their plain of existence again and again.

This was a quick couple of stories, the first half was a story of how Celena & Rafael end up together, in the most unlikely series of events.
They both unknowingly had feelings for each other for years. After Celena is all but dared to stay with Rafael for a week the chemistry them is too explosive to ignore.

Historia corta! No estuvo mal ps! Es como lo mismo que todos los otros libros solo que mas corto y sin Striker metiendo su mano!!! Aunque primera vez (lo unico nuevo q vi) que una Escudera se enamora (o

This was a whatever type of read for me...
Romance between a Dark-Hunter Pirate and a Squire; I'm not too familiar with these characters so their story wasn't all that interesting. I did think it was cute but that was it.

I didn't like how she was just in love with him the whole time. It felt like a cop-out. They could've just had sex and separated but I get that this series is about romance and love and everything, I just felt like it was a cop-out.

Archeron: "I'm not supposed to interfere, but what the hell."

How can you just forget a key step in freeing a Dark Hunter? That seemed a little weird and forced.

The pace was also too speedy and you couldn't get to know the characters enough to really care about them.

Really wish this one had been longer - even though I knew it was only a novella. Loved Rafael's internal humor as a centuries-old pirate who still felt he needed to act like a tough guy, even though he clearly wasn't.

It was okay.

This is a very short story about Rafael. We don’t really learn anything new. It is a self contained story so in theory you could read it without having read the others in the series but I’m not sure you would enjoy it.

First story was cute.

Second story was about Fury the wolf. I assume this is after the events in Vanes book? Also, why was the dragon so goofy sounding? 🤔😂 And what was that cliffhanger at the end??! Rude! Now i need answers! Helpp!
