My paperback copy of this book was published in 1999 and it has taken me a long time to open the yellowing pages and read it. What at first seems a dense story of great magnitude, evolves into a more personal and absorbing tale than I thought, mainly due to the well-conceived characters and the elegant rendering of that period in history. While Donal and Robert are away fighting in the Holy Land, Eilish has her fair share of predatory dramas at home.
This is the first of four novels Caiseal Mór has written in this series. So, if you are into Richard the Lionheart, the Crusades, Knights Templar and Irish chieftains this is the book for you. "The real treasure is here!" Geoffrey gasped. "I knew it! It is just as my dream predicted."
Caiseal Mór has diverse talents; author, musician, craftsman and playing the harp. He has written three other trilogies mixed with Irish legends and mystery, plus non-fiction book 'A Blessing and a Curse' which discusses his autism.
Easy, enjoyable historical fiction with a healthy dash of action and intrigue. The plot twists might not be as twisty as some but it's a fun read nonetheless!
I didn't like it. No idea why. Crusades, Templar Knights, the Grail. All things I love but, I found it dry. I was ready to give up early on but persevered to halfway point.
I adored this book. Its a story full of details, colours and sounds that become real when you start reading. Th story is unique, and in today's reference, it becomes magical and impossible to put down.
