This book is a continuation from Book 1: FIT FOR LIFE (same authors). This particular book goes into more depth with their Fit for Life program. The authors have done their research quite extensively and they have some good sound principles for eating and living a healthy life. They talk about everything such as the air we breathe, the water we drink, about what kinds of foods we need to eat more of and why, and all facets of health: exercise, sunshine, loving relationships, cleanliness and more. They talk more in detail about animal products, how to feed our children healthfully, detoxification and what to do when it happens; and they give you an idea of how to plan your meals and what to eat. There are recipes towards the back of the book.
I like that they don't "judge" or rant and rave about how eating meat is so wrong and leave it up to the reader to do what's right for them. They do suggest cutting back on meat consumption, and other sources say the same.
It's an all around great book to begin one's health journey. Lots of sound advice in which they've backed up their theories and opinions with several pages of bibliography in the back of the book.
As with all health books, no one health book is correct and perfect in their knowledge of knowing exactly what health entails, so some things are just controversial and will probably be argued over till the end of time. One of those things being the consumption of animal products. So, read this book with an open mind, and then do your own research by reading other health books.
I am giving it a four because it had made a huge impact on my eating patterns.
the writing wise it is written in a fairly lucid manner and the explanation backing each of the author's findings like the harmfulness of baby food, cooked food, medicines, whey protein and meat is logical and makes you agree with everything the author is saying.
After finishing 80% of the book I kinda felt it was getting repetitive and stopped reading it.but i take a lot of things from this book into this life.
Interesting theory on why we get sick. Intuitively, it makes sense and I will try his suggestions. The book has lots of theory before it finally gets to Harvey's three core practices. I think it could have been edited down better.
I was astonished when I found out, that the book is over 30 years old because many problems are still actual and not solved. Introduced a lot of reasons to go vegetarian/vegan. Drastically changed my view on animal products.
Exceptional Book on Nutrition! Though I've yet to master the principles disclosed in this Book I believe it is the closest that we can come to the truth as it relates to proper nutrition. Highly recommend!
Much is repetitive, but in a good way, helping to keep the principles of this way of life alive; new info is well defined; I like his simple, goofy, entertaining writing style; AWESOME recipes!!
