Some might say giving your brother a good book review is a no-brainer. Expected. Easy. Biased. Well, for the few who have a family anything like mine, you would know that, of course, my review IS biased. But that's not doing B.B. any favors. So, you should know, that despite my familial prejudice...

I had the privilege (yes, you read that right) of reading an advance copy of Project Sparta. It started out harmless enough: promise to read a few chapters to fulfill my brotherly "duty", kick back some advice and words of encouragement, and get back to that other book I was reading. But, it wasn't until after some good-natured nagging that I finally started Project Sparta. It had sat on my beside table under books like The Martian, Ready Player One and Creativity, Inc. for a few months by this point.

I immediately regretted waiting so long to lose myself in this damn good book.

With an innovative take on unorthodox tactics in modern espionage, Project Sparta picks up right in the midst of the action and absolutely races to the finish.

Like a dollar bill tied to a piece of string tugged by the author, once you think you've got this story in your grasp, you find yourself farther away than you started. But at the end of this game, with all its puzzles, action, twists and intrigue, you find the dollar was leading you to the jackpot all along. And leaves you greedy for more.

Whether you enjoy the challenge of an intricate mystery, or the simple fun of going along for the ride, Project Sparta is a spy thriller for everyone.

Next: Project Apollo. Can't wait.

Project Sparta is a great thriller for all ages. The reader is given enough background on the main characters so that they feel like they know them but there is still enough intrigue to keep you guessing. This book was a real page turner and was not predictable like some I have read. Really looking forward to the sequel!

This book was absolutely amazing! I was having to force myself to stop reading because of how great the storyline was. It was so intriguing and interesting wanting to know who was doing what and what Fiona was doing to Xander I mean the main character himself was incredible to look behind the eyes of. It was incredibly well written with action at every corner in the story and I honestly can't think of a way it couldn't be better! The unexpected was always to come and I really enjoyed that knowing I would be surprised and interested in the new evidence. When all the evidence pointed one direction and you expected one thing (like when duke went black and he had a hatred for Xander) it would completely turn around and actually explain through the characters mind what had happened( Ezra sneaking out with the job offering and leaving a fake body behind leaving with a character that was never really expected to be evil). I overall enjoyed this book and will indeed read the next. I suggest to all those action lovers to definitely read this book!

Project Sparta is a well-balanced, fast paced read. From the opening moments, the reader is pulled into an elaborate web of terrorism and counter-terrorism training, espionage and a world-wide effort to locate and eliminate the master-mind behind these threats.

The author exploits the readers interest by exposing events in two distinct time periods as the jig-saw pieces of his action-packed plot are woven together. The time-period themes permit the reader to root for the success of the main character, while attempting to establish where and how the relationships influence the final chapter.

This novel is an absolute page burner. I did not put it down often. I see a screen play in the near future.

I highly recommend Project Sparta for young adults on up. It keeps you guessing until the final moments. Enjoy.

The author asked for a honest review of his upcoming novel "Project Sparta" and here it is:
I know the version I've read is still a work in progress but I wanted to mention that there are still a lot of spelling mistakes or missed blank spaces anyway.

Project Sparta made me realize that spy novels just aren't for me. I've never been much interested in the Bond movies or similar and it seems like it's the same with this certain type of literature. Or maybe I just read the wrong novel to start exploring this genre.

Unfortunately, the story didn't manage to hold my attention. From chapter 30 on I started skimming the pages.
One characteristic of a good novel is for me personally that it has to make me feel something. Project Sparta however, made me feel neither any pride towards Xander nor fear or sympathy towards any of the other characters.

Most of the characters' attitude, especially Hardy's appeared too patriotic to me. It made me feel uncomfortable to see the US being written as the one superior country. Especially in the current political situation it's not the best move.
Hardy in general was a disgusting character to read about. After Ezra's believed suicide, Hardy calls him a coward and selfish. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Ezra is suddenly pictured as being the guilty one, the one in the wrong. And Xander lost the last bit of my sympathy by accepting and believing Hardy.
Even before Ezra's death Xander acts as Ezra is the unreasonable one and that "he should get over it". Xander doesn't even try to help Ezra and that makes him the worst friend of all.

Another character that bothered me was Fiona. Right away it became obvious that her character was more or less the Mary Sue of the novel.
She is perfect and Xander falls in love with her as soon as he sets eyes on her. I never got why he loves her and risks his life for her. They hardly have any real interactions or conversations. Let alone any chemistry at all.
The only interaction he has with her is through surveillance cameras.
But what's even worse than surveilling a girl in her house via hidden cameras is finding "comfort" in doing so. He obviously truly embraces his stalker nature.

This book disappointed and upsetted me in too many ways to rate it any higher than one star.

For the life of me I can’t understand how come we have so many 5 star recommendations here.
I personally didn’t like the way the story was laid out. The Story is about 8 boys and girls that are trained to become “super heroes”, and all that within one year. Come on. We all know that it takes years to train a Navy Seal to become a good fighter. Here we have an unbelievable compound that belongs to science fiction and not action book.
I don’t want to write any spoilers, but I have to say that half the book has to do with the training compound. This compound is so imaginary, so unbelievable. It reminds me of old superman comic books. It’s sure not for people looking for realistic and reliable stories.
It could have been O.K to describe the training in an extended prolog, but what we got here is a book that is jumping continually between “the Past” in the training camp and “the Terror” incident 5 years later.
I gave up after reading (forcefully) 60% of the book. Could be a good book for youngsters.

Boy Nobody...move aside.

Wattpad is where I found this full-tilt YA spy piece, and you can read it there for free. I guarantee, you'll have no trouble gobbling this story up. I mean, you should see the way I ran through the last ten chapters or so when they were uploaded pretty much all at once. Between the Arrow-style anachronic storytelling, and the high-stakes spy action a la Mission: Impossible or Sigma Force, this little book is tailor-made for people like me.

And it looks like Gallagher's got a sequel planned - either that, or it's just wishful thinking on my part. If there is a sequel, though, I really hope it also shows up on Wattpad, since my ebook budget is still all of zero bucks...

This book is awesome!

I've read PS twice now, and I thoroughly enjoyed it each time! Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn would be proud, as B. Gallagher has provided a great plot with intricate details that would make any spy-thriller connoisseur happy.

Initially, I thought the story was taking me on a tried and proven arc not unlike Enders Game or the more recent child dystopian novels - stories that make for good literature. However, Gallagher wove a story that distinguished itself from these works in a major way. Without disclosing any plot points, I'll let you discover how he does it.

The project Credo, "nothing is at it seems", serves as a proper admonishment for the reader as well as for the Spartans in the novel.

Enjoy! I sure did.

As soon as I started reading this book I was transfixed by it. This book is extremely well written and is incredibly discriptive. The plot is entertaining and exiting due to the time switches and the language. Apart from the fact that the characters are all secret agents and super geniuses, they are quite realistic. Their emotions and feelings are relatable and they go through very common things as they struggle to come to terms with their new lives. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the sequel. I hope it will be a real page turner, just like this one was.

I started and finished this book in one day... around five hours, more or less. In short, I couldn't put it down. B.B. Gallagher hits on something I think we've all thought about at some point or another. Do I just obey blindly, or do I question what I am being told? At what point do I stop being the good guy, and become he bad guy? This book made me feel like I was there with Xander and I felt his struggles to make heads and tails of his world. Along with it come some interesting twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end! Very well done, B.B. Gallagher!

"Nothing is as it seems" one of my favorite lines from the book. 4 years USMC Scout/Sniper, with a tour in Beirut, this one brings back some tremendous middle east memories. Also gets more recent events like the terrorist attacks in Paris just right. Some terrorist threats get neutralized and some don't. Total roller-coaster ride of a story. Great central character. This will be my son's Christmas gift.

Project Sparta is a must-read! The perfect blend of youthful energy, mature minds, and timeless camaraderie, the Spartans are fresh characters like none other. Xander's quick and innovative thinking kept me amazed from start to finish. This work is one of action, mystery, suspense, and humor that also artfully explores the emotional roller-coaster of friendship, betrayal, loss, and justice.
Readers are left craving the sequel, Project Apollo.

Project Sparta felt like a being inside of a 3D action movie. While reading the book you are so enthralled with the story line and the main character that you literally feel like part of the novel. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next one from B.B Gallagher. Excellent writer, excellent novel.

A cracking good read. If you like a good spy novel about how a teen is made into serious adult spy and doesn't resort to humorous cliches, instead relies on the dark and deadly, then Project Sparta is for you. From cover to cover the mystery and action will keep your fingers flicking to the next page. I can only guess what Xander Whitt will do next now he is a honed weapon of Sparta.

This book is a very clever way of showing the sacrifice the military protects us. It shows us the dedication, the will to do justice, the hardship they go through, and how they handle it all. It's a book to make you think, make you see the other side of the coin. Love it completely! If you like a book that can give you thrills and show you perspective on your life, this is a perfect match.

The storyline is a 5-star..... great plot, great tension..

I found I liked this book more than I expected. I was grabbed by the unique overt telling of recruitment of specialized geniuses, but at an unusually youthful time in their lives. The circumstances, the storyline, the interaction and action were all heart pounding, especially as the reader forms a mental bond with each character. And while you may guess, there are enough twists and turns to keep you doubting right up to the actual reveal . . . And thereafter.

As well as it was checked for editing,, there are several places, possibly in conversion to e-book, that as a visual reader bothered me quite a bit in their error or confusion. A tad bit more punctuation also would clarify better who is speaking at times,.

Al in all this is a book not to be missed. I look forward to Apollo!

This one was not the usual type of story that I would normally read. This was definitely not the type of story that you will find a 20 year old girl reading intently on a lazy Saturday afternoon. But that was exactly how I found myself, once I started reading this story. I never imagined to find such an affinity towards the ‘secret spies and military agents’ kind of story, yet I found myself drawn to it once I passed through the first 4 chapters and was so restless to find out what the story is going to unfold into.

So now for all those who are wondering what is all these fuss about, here is the outline: A secret project called ‘Project Sparta’ to train the most brilliant prodigies in US, recruits ten people who are gifted with each of their own exceedingly talented capabilities. After their training period, they are being employed for various important assignments, scattered all around. When one member defects from the group and rebels against the government plotting clever schemes to bring destruction on a mass scale, the Spartans(that is what the trained recruits are called) come together to find out the black sheep and put an end to it.

Xander Whitt is one such exceedingly brilliant person with great memory capacity who is being led into the trail guided by the clues from the defected Spartan. It is almost as if he mocks the other Spartans to find him. It is very difficult to pin point who the Spartan is, because they have been trained so well to cover their tracks that whatever the data that can be found on him is the things that he wanted them to find out. Xander along with the other Spartans spins their own web to nab the defected Spartan.

I haven’t went into much details because I don’t want to break the suspense for those who want to read it. The story then revolves around the ways the Spartans aids the mission with each of their unique yet useful ability to track and come up with a plan. The underground training place and the facilities, the brilliancy and the unique ability of each Spartan is just so impressive. Also the kinds of tests they undergo, the way in which each is devised are so interesting. And the transitions of the chapters altering between the present and the past injects even more suspense to the plot.

For all those guys who love action movies, this one is a must-read!

This book definitely belongs on my 'really great books' shelve. If you're thinking about reading it, please do. There are several reasons for that:

1. The characters in 'Project Sparta' are well thought-through and each of them develops in a logical way. This development is not immediately visible but there are slight changes in behaviour. Because of this the book is realistic and you can easily drown in the pages of this book.

2. The storyline of this book is clear and all the events add up. You never have moments like: 'Wait when did this happen?' or 'Didn't that happen to another person?'

3. One of the first lines of the book is 'Nothing is as it seems'. Well, he's definetely right in that one... (I won't add anything her because of spoilers)

4. He chooses exactly the cliffhanger moments to stop the chapters so it is physically impossible to put down the book. I literally had to fall asleep to stop reading.

If you had even the slightest moment of doubt as if to read the I beg you: Please read this book, it will make your day!

Ps. I'm from the Netherlands so please don't be very judgmental if I used the wrong grammar of words. I'm trying...

I decided to try Project Sparta on a lark and I must say that I highly recommend it to anyone who loves spy thrillers!! I actually stayed up all night to finish it. I was exhausted the next day but it was still worth it. The first few chapters feel a bit more like a young adult novel but after laying the foundation for the characters the author quickly jumps into the action and does a great job of weaving together a complex and exciting storyline. The author's style (pace, level of character development, appeal to a large range of ages) felt oddly familiar while I was reading Project Sparta and I later realized that he reminded me of a much more thoughtful and skilled William Gibson. Doesn't it always feel like Gibson just vomits a good idea onto the page and then makes obvious plot choices and trusts people will read it regardless of the effort he puts into it? Well, the idea for Project Sparta was not only great but the content was carefully crafted for the optimal reader experience :-)

B.B. Gallagher wrote an interesting spy thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. He created a kind of character that seemed tangible and was deeper than what was just on paper. I would love to add this amazing thriller to my own personal library.

The only cons about this specific piece of writing is some grammar and spelling errors, but they are easily remedied. And the outcome of the book was predictable after getting far enough into the book, but again that is easily remedied.

I really enjoyed this book. It was told in an interesting way, with the story alternating from present and past times. There was a perfect balance between what you found out and what was still a mystery and this balance kept me reading it till the end. I was constantly on the edge of my seat as the plot evolved.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries. It was very well written and had a great, mysterious ending.

This was an amazing story. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. I would relate this book to the Cherub Series along with a bit of Enders game. I love both of those books, but I believe that this story blows both of them out of the water. The protagonist is very relatable along with his fellow recruits. It has plenty of action along with a great mystery story frame that will keep you guessing. I give this book a 5 out of 5 and I can't wait until the sequel.
