تُسمع بين دفتي هذا الكتاب نغمات مختلفة. ينعقد بينها ما يشبه الحوار الأفلاطوني، ولكن غير المباشر. فأنت حين تنتقل من مقالة إلى أخرى تنتقل في الحقيقة من صوت إلى آخر، من وجهة نظر إلى ما يخالفها، ويضادها، بل ويناقضها. رغم التوجه الواحد. بل إن بعض المقالات هي، في جزء من سلاسلها ردود على مقالات أخرى. فوفر متعة التجوال بين أصوات متنوعة في المسرحية الواحدة نفسها، فضلا عن متعة الإلمام بما يجمعها وما يفرقها.

Jane Tompkins (born 1940) is an American literary scholar who has worked on canon formation, feminist literary criticism, and reader response criticism.[1] She has helped develop the idea of cultural work in literary studies.[2] She earned her PhD at Yale in 1966 and subsequently taught at Temple University, Duke University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.[3]

I read this for my Literary Criticism course at Penn State.

I'll admit that there are a few essays I did not read, but this is, on the whole, a great collection.
