Sandy was born in San Francisco, California. She grew up in the hard-driving, achievement orientated corporate culture of Silicon Valley. Sandy holds Master's Degrees in Economics and Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling. She was a doctoral student at Stanford's Graduate School of Business and has been an economic analyst, businesswoman, and negotiation coach, as well as author.

Mrs. Nathan lives with her husband on their California ranch. They bred Peruvian Paso horses for almost twenty years.

Nice little collection of 3 novellas what more could you want for the halloween season but witches, orges, vampires and zombies.

I couldn’t put this book down. Like Harry Potter, Vanessa Schierman PhD comes from a long line of witches and warlocks. Magick and enchantment are real, at least to Vanessa who hides her wand in her black dress and speaks to cats and spiders. At age three Vanessa realized that she could cast spells. Vanessa might be cranky but she is a good witch and part of her role is to help her family discern between good and evil. When her mother cut the head off her pony and melted her cake, Vanessa restored them. She even taught her parents to be good. Most families endure a bit of dysfunction, but Vanessa has to clean up her mother's European estate that has been overrun by vampires. Vanessa prefers astral projection to international flights, and who wouldn't in this day and age? Wearing a wooden cross seems to be a good idea when flying through space.
Even though her husband has killed himself and her five children are insane, that doesn't keep Vanessa from pursuing romance. Never mind she is old, crooked and ugly, there is a spell for everything, including curses for people who write poor reviews! Vanessa is quirky, memorable and a new Halloween favorite. Well done Sandy Nathan!

What did I like? I have read every one of the Bloodsong series and this one is no different from the others…. GREAT! I love the way that Sandy writes and her way of drawing the reader into the stories no matter what the story material is. Her characters are always strong and well developed with Vanessa being a bit of a narcissistic type. She has enough of the secrets about her that you just can’t help to hang around.

What are you going to like? All of Sandy’s work is exceptional, developed with strong characters and very descriptive details about them. You can see the research and the swirl of the brain work that goes into the storylines. Never have I picked up one of her books that while you read them you have all of the details and motivations about each character to make your reading interesting. The intrigue, mystery, humor, emotions all run strong throughout the stories which keeps you glued to the pages till you have finished. I have such a hard time putting them down and have read till all hours of the night because of it.

Entertaining and compelling, Vanessa Schierman PhD Witch is a fun collection of three novellas that introduce us to the character that is an aged Tony Stark of metaphysics. While I received a complimentary copy of this book to review, and I often do because of the volume I read and the quality and comprehensiveness of my reviews, I don’t always necessarily find the work captivating and even worth my time to pick up. This book’s setup from page one immediately grabbed me by blurring the lines between fiction and reality, opening a self-aware universe by framing the story as a historical document. This clever, modern approach to storytelling is always fun if it is pulled off well, and in this short collection Sandy Nathan achieves it in a well-edited and well-executed collection… and, of course, it’s Halloween.

Of course, Schierman is already a recurring series character for Nathan, so the three stories in the collection explore the backstory of Schierman’s character, the characters that surround her, and gives a glimpse into her (and her compatriots) powers, abilities, priorities, and goals in a short narrative taste of the longer novel-length works. As a sample of the background story and a small jump into the series, (and available for free with Prime’s Kindle Unlimited), this would set any reader up for a serious and fun intro to Schierman’s adventures. I will likely not be picking the rest up, but that is mostly because it isn’t really my style of book. It is important to note, however, that this was an incredibly fun read and I enjoyed its intelligence, pacing, and content. While I don’t usually enjoy this genre, I loved my time spent with Schierman.

A fun book that can be read in one sitting, Nathan opens up the world of Schierman and the adventures of her smarmy, brilliant, and fun protagonist. While this is a cozy piece, there’s nothing wrong with such short, fun paranormal fun on a rainy day. Nathan’s format makes it all the more engaging for all audiences.

Vanessa Schierman is the richest person in the world. But no one knows that, and that bothered Vanessa. That caused her to let her vanity get the best of her. Why should someone else hold that title? So, Vanessa conducts an interview with a reporter, whose article will end up divulging her family secrets and tarnishing her image. There’s no way Vanessa will allow that article to go to print. And that causes a domino effect that sends her down a path of no return. But being the powerful witch that she is, nothing can stop Vanessa Schierman from coming out on top.

Before I started the story, I read the notes at the beginning. At that point, I wasn’t sure if Vanessa was a real person or just a fictional character. That is a sign of a great writer. I enjoyed following the plot as it unfolded. Vanessa’s character was straight laced and in line with a person of her means, as well as an ages old witch, making her a successful character for the story. I think I would have enjoyed being around her. And the name Percival Palimpsest is the best name ever in my opinion. He made for a perfect thorn in Vanessa’s side. It had the right amount of humor for such a dark read.

Vanessa Schierman cannot stand the cover of the magazine NetWorth, she looks like an old hag. Well she is old, and she is a witch, but that’s beside the point. She is the richest woman in the world, and while she was raised to never discuss money in public, it’s high time they stop giving the world incorrect information about Will Duane. Plus, maybe he will notice her if she gets the attention of the public….

This book contains three short stories about a witch who is much more than a witch, but a scientist. Vanessa is quite a character, and these stories provide some background for a minor character in some of Nathan’s other Bloodsong novels. I really like authors who provide a rich and detailed back story for every character, as it really makes me feel like I’m getting to know them and their motivations which makes the whole series flow so easily. I’m looking forward to reading more from Nathan, as I have no made it through the whole series yet! I’m hoping to see more of Vanessa as she really is a fascinating character in and of herself.

Easy read

Very entertaining and easy read. Not your usual paranormal tale. Novella format is perfect size for casual reading. Worth reading.
