About the author

Gosho Aoyama (青山剛昌) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known as the creator of the manga series Detective Conan (known in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as Case Closed).

Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist with the work Chotto Matte which was published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday on winter of 1987. Shortly after that, another work by Aoyama, Magic Kaito, was published on the same magazine.

Another solid collection of stories. It has a nice mixture of flashback cases, story progression, and character mystery to keep readers engaged. Rumi Wakasa is still one of the more interesting new additions, and despite the small focus, her narrative purpose remains intriguing. It also helps that three (3) full cases are explored, making the overall experience feel more packed and complete than many other volumes.

Tập này bao hàm được rất nhiều chi tiết thú vị:
- Chương đầu kết thúc vụ án có mặt Sera và khiến Conan nhớ về lần gặp gỡ trong quá khứ.
- Vụ án bên bờ biển 10 năm trước. Anh Akai Shuichi đẹp trai mlem mlem, mình cũng rất thích tương tác giữa các thành viên gia đình Akai. Shukichi hơi ngố tàu nhưng chúc mừng anh đã dậy thì thành công :>.
- Vụ án trong quán sushi. Giới thiệu nhân vật mới-mà-không-hề-tầm-thường là ông bác bán sushi (bây giờ thì biết là Rum òi :>). Mấy cái phản ứng hóa học đọc cũng vui lắm.
- Vụ án của anh golf thủ. Có sự gài nhẹ của cô Wakasa, đến bây giờ mình vẫn chưa biết thân phân thật của cô này.

Điểm trọn vẹn nhất của tập này khi mình đọc bản của NXB Kim Đồng là có phần tóm tắt timeline ở cuối truyện. Một hành trình dài hơn gần nghìn chap cùng với các nhân vật thật sự vô cùng ý nghĩa đối với mình.

General Synopsis:
As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻

Personal Opinion:
#1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.

#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!

This volume begins with the finish of the Dressing Room Murder Case. The clues pivot on the different ways people count on their fingers in different countries. And this leads Conan to realize that Masumi’s been fibbing about part of her background.

Which leads into an extended flashback about how Shin’ichi and Ran first met Masumi and her family on a beach a decade ago. Shin’ichi is already pretty sharp but misses context sometimes and jumps to conclusions. When a car carrying two people drives off a cliff and into the sea, Masumi’s older brother dives, but the only person left in the car is already dead.

Shin’ichi, Ran and Masumi help the brother and the police figure out where the second person went–not a murderer, this time, but still a criminal. We get more information on Masumi’s family background. And returning to the present, Masumi can tell the penny’s finally dropped for Conan, though her true purpose is still unknown.

The next story starts on a rainy day. Kogorou has lost a bunch of money betting on the ponies, except that one of the betting slips in his stack is for a winner he doesn’t remember picking, and is worth a million yen! Conan immediately spots that it’s not actually Kogorou’s, and must have been dropped and mixed up when the private eye dropped his earlier. But there’s no name on the slip, and “finders keepers.” Time to go out for fancy sushi! (The betting shop won’t open until the next day to get it cashed, but Mr. Mouri has some pocket money he can use till then.)

There’s a new cook/waiter at the sushi place, a fellow named Kanenori Wakita, who wears a medical eyepatch (a recent accident) and is something of an amateur detective himself.

Quick reminder, the current Black Organization subplot is that the mysterious Rum has taken an interest in the events going on in Japan. Rum is apparently a master of disguise, whose age, sex and location are unknown. The one clue that Conan has is that Rum supposedly has only one eye. Which makes it interesting that several people with one eye or a covered eye have shown up recently, including Wakita here.

The sushi cook takes an immediate interest in “Sleeping Mouri.” And a chance to impress the famous detective comes almost immediately. Three other customers come separately out of the rain and a little while later, a woman rushes in to announce one of them is a thief! It seems she had a million yen winning ticket in her pocketbook, which was stolen. The pocketbook also had one of her phones in it, so she ran home, got her other phone, and tracked the GPS to this restaurant.

The pocketbook tuns out to be in the restroom, minus the ticket. All three of the new customers had used that restroom. And she’d marked the pickpocket with blood but none of the suspects seem to have blood on them. Can the case be solved before the police arrive?

Impressed with Sleeping Mouri’s clever solution (actually Conan knocking the P.I. out and using a voice changer), Wakita insists on becoming Mr. Mouri’s disciple in detection. Oh, and it turns out that the betting slip Kogorou had wasn’t this woman’s, but Ran forces him to turn it over to police lost and found anyway.

This is followed by a pro golfer deciding to dump his girlfriend as he’s moving overseas. As it happens, he lives next door to Ms. Wakasa. At school, the assistant teacher accidentally ruins a prop for the class play and asks the Detective Kids to come to her place to build a replacement. Oh look, there’s been a murder next door.

This is less a “whodunnit” as there’s only one suspect, and more of Conan and his friends trying to break the golf player’s seemingly perfect alibi. Ms. Wakasa’s clumsiness comes in again when she “inadvertently” prevents the suspect from fleeing. Notably, every so often in this story, one of her glasses lenses is drawn as opaque.

This is caught by the press, and the ensuing story catches the attention of Wakita and a certain one-eyed police officer.

The next case takes us to Cafe Poirot on Friday the 13th. A birthday party is interrupted when the lights go out, and the discovery of a corpse when the lights come back on. Conan and Hattori are present, as are cafe workers Azusa and Amuro (he’s a triple agent posing as another disciple of Kogorou Mouri.)

The special feature at the end collects the timeline of the Akai family as it had been revealed so far.

Lanjutan kasus pembunuhan di kamar pas. Jadi, di kamar pas itu ada yang namanya face cover ya. Wah saya baru tahu, ga pernah lihat soalnya, haha, *katro mode on*. Lagi-lagi pesan moral yang bisa diambil dari kasus ini adalah agar berhati-hati dalam berbicara dan bersikap. Tanpa bermaksud menyinggung pun kadang ada orang yang tersinggung dengan ulah kita, apalagi kalau bermaksud menyinggung beneran. Bisa jadi nyawa taruhannya.

Kasus kedua adalah kasus sepuluh tahun yang lalu, saat Conan akhirnya teringat kalau dia dan Ran ternyata pernah bertemu dengan Sera dan keluarganya saat liburan di pantai. Wah..wah..ternyata kita tidak asing dengan keluarga Sera. Kasus yang harus mereka pecahkan adalah kasus mencari perampok yang membaur bersama pengunjung pantai. Case closed! Dan yang paling keren adalah ayahnya Sinichi yang bisa menebak siapa si perampok hanya dengan melihat gambarnya. Luar biasa.

Lanjut kasus ketiga adalah kasus pencopetan. Pesan moral yang bisa diambil dari kasus ini adalah kalau kita punya kupon berisi kemenangan undian berhadiah besar, jangan meneriakkannya di tempat umum kalau kita tidak ingin kupon kita dicopet. Si pencopet dalam kasus ini kebetulan membaur bersama pengunjung lain di sebuah restoran sushi tempat Conan, Ran dan paman Kogoro makan. Dan di restoran ini ada pelayan baru yang cukup mencurigakan penampilannya yang bermata satu. Oh ya ada satu pesan moral lagi yang bisa diambil dari kasus ini. Kalau kita menemukan barang apapun yang bukan milik kita, sebaiknya segera diserahkan ke kantor polisi terdekat, kalau kita tidak ingin dituduh sebagai pencopet yang sedang bersembunyi :D

Kasus keempat adalah pembunuhan yang melibatkan seorang pegolf terkenal yang kebetulan adalah tetangga Bu Wakasa. Kebetulan pula, Bu Wakasa mengundang grup detektif cilik ke rumahnya. Detektif cilik pun beraksi membongkar trik kasus pembunuhan tersebut. Namun, Conan tidak sengaja menemukan sesuatu yang membuat Bu Wakasa jadi tampak mencurigakan.

Kasus kelima terjadi di Cafe Poirot. Lampu cafe tiba-tiba padam dan ada salah seorang pengunjung yang tertusuk pisau. Darahnya muncrat kemana-mana. Dan kasus bersambung sampai di sini.

So, saya masih bertahan dengan Conan. Masih menikmati cerita-ceritanya seperti biasa. Next, lanjut baca ke volume 93.

Kebiasaan baca versi scanlationnya, sampe lupa baca ulang versi buku terjemahannya. Dooh...

Paling awal ada penyelesaian kasus sandal putih (ide cerdik sandal itu, juga wadah chloroformnya).

Diteruskan bagian fav-ku di volume ini, kisah Shinichi dan Ran 10 tahun lalu yg sejatinya pernah bertemu keluarga Akai dan bersama-sama memecahkan kasus perampokan. Haaa... akhirnya ku mudheng garis keluarga Akai ini, hubungan antara Akai Shuichi dengan Sera, Sera dengan Mary, juga Sera dengan Shukichi si Taiko shogi itu. Gituuuu toh. Jadi sblm Kudou Shinichi menjadi silver bullet yg menyelamatkan Akai dr Black Org, dahulu kala dia pernah jadi asistennya, hihihi....

Kasus ketiga lumayan seru dan bikin laper membayangkan semua hidangan sushi itu. Plus Mouri Kogoro masih sekoplak biasanya. (parutan Daikon bisa untuk menghilangkan noda darah di baju!)

Kasus selanjutnya melibatkan bu guru Wakasa yg "sengaja" mengundang detektif cilik ke apartemennya untuk memecahkan pembunuhan yang diperkirakannya akan terjadi.

Lalu yg terakhir, pembukaan kasus pembunuhan klub drama universitas di kafe Poirot, padahal selain Conan dan Zero ada pula Heiji di situ. Salah tempat salah waktu nih si pelaku *smirk*

Tutti i casi sono stati molto interessanti e portano avanti, chi più, chi meno, la trama orizzontale. La risoluzione del caso iniziato nel volume precedente finalmente porta Conan a ricordare il primo incontro con Sera e Akai, al mare durante il quale andiamo a conoscere l’intera famiglia di Sera, infatti i capitoli successivi trattano proprio del flashback di quell’estate di dieci anni fa, personalmente la mia parte preferita del volume. Sul fronte RUM invece ritroviamo ancora la maestra Rumi Wakasa, che continua a fingersi maldestra, ma in realtà stende gente come un lottatore di wrestling. Altro indiziato che si aggiunge alla lista è Kanenori Wakita, nuovo chef in un ristorante di sushi vicino all’agenzia investigativa, che ha un occhio bendato proprio come Rum, l’uomo ha spiccate abilità investigative e chiede di farsi prendere come allievo da Kogoro.
Ho apprezzato molto in fondo al volume una timeline degli eventi che riguarda la famiglia Akai, anche in relazione con i fatti che riguardano Shinichi e Ai.

The first story in this volume concludes a cliffhanger from the previous book. I felt bad for the killer in this story (which is not usually an emotion I have for them...but this was the exception). The second story involves Detective Conan at the beach. Suddenly a car flies off a cliff and into the water. Detective Conan with a newly made friend, must solve the case of if this was murder or an accident. Also, Conan is figuring out clues to the bigger overarching story with the men in black. The next story starts off with Detective Richard Moore winning big on a horse race and heading to a sushi spot to celebrate. A thief is in the restaurant. The next case (yes, a lot of cases in this single volume) involves a murder and the accused states it was "The Pale Woman". Can Detective Conan solve this case? And last but not least we have a story which begins and barely goes anywhere before the volume ends...meaning that if you want the story, you have to purchase volume 93 of the long running series.

Akhirnya datang juga. Versi digital sih udah nyampe jauh banget, tapi versi buku masih saya koleksi. Udah, jangan nanya alasannya. Haha.
Kali ini seru, hmmm 2 kasus aja sih yang seru. Kasus sendal putih di dept store dan kasus perampokan arloji mahal. Kenapa seru?
1. Kasus sendal putih di Dept. Store. Buat saya yang seru adalah tentang beberapa gaya orang-orang di Jepang, Tiongkok, Jerman, dan Perancis memperagakan angka menggunakan jari.
2. Kasus perampokan arloji. Kasus ini mengobati rasa kangen saya sam Shu. Hihihi. Hal yang menarik dan bikin gemes ya soal mama nya Sera. Itu bukannya anak kecil yang tinggal di apartemen Sera dan biasa dipanggil Mary?
Sepertinya ada org lain lagi selain Shinichi, dan Ai yang menelan APTX itu.

The cases in this volume were both engaging and creative. And finally—finally! We get to see how Shinichi, Ran, and Sera met 10 years ago. While it did feel a bit convenient to insert this backstory now, it was still fascinating to see a glimpse of Shuichi, Shukichi, Sera, and their mother during that time.

But seriously, can we talk about how frustrating it is when Aoyama and his team abruptly cut off plot developments? Like, why do they keep doing this? HAHAHA. It’s happened so many times now that it’s honestly frustrating!

And then there’s Ms. Wakasa. Who is she really? Could she be the missing bodyguard? (Probably.) Plus, now we have not one but two characters suspected to be Rum. Things are definitely getting interesting.

We get to see when Shinichi and Ran first met Sera and her brothers in a flashback mystery at the beach, and some current mysteries are answered! The next story, about Mori picking up a winning horserace ticket and then stumbling into a mystery about... yes, a stolen winning horserace ticket! is very funny. Then we have the mystery of Wakasa-sensei and pulling the detective boys into a murder that seems to have been committed by a golf pro, but how when there is photographic evidence of an alibi? Finally, we start another mystery with Hatori Heiji and his inability to profess his love for Kazuko. Very entertaining volume.

Antara perkara yang paling menarik dalam keluaran volume ini ialah Conan mula mengingati latar belakang Sera dan juga Akai! Mereka telah tersua dan berkenalan sejak awal lagi - sejak kanak-kanak.

Tidak kurang pentingnya ialah pengenalan watak Wakita Kanenori yang bekerja di restoran sushi dan kejadian lucu Detektif Mouri yang memenangi perjudian lumba kuda secara tidak sengaja.
