It's official: I love this couple so damn much. Yes, I am still not fond of the possessive language Ayase uses, but considering how much he truly cares about Hinana and the steps he takes to make her happy, I'm willing to tolerate it (still don't like it, though). Going off of that, I have to say that Ayase telling Hinana how he felt about her and Ah-chan's accidental kiss was pretty damn cute, especially with all the cat puns.
Ayase is such a cool male lead because he is equal parts mature and immature and incredibly honest. I loved seeing him accept Shu's proposal to be the leading lady in the film because he knows she's a talented actress and can trust that she'll put on a good performance. It also speaks volumes that he's able to say all of this with sincerity, but knows he needs to tell Hinana in person to spare her any pain or humiliation she would feel finding out on the news. He knows what's best for work and his relationship and acts accordingly, which is stunningly mature for a 24 year old. I do love when he drops his mature, public figure when he's around Hinana, especially at the theme park. He was so damn cute and child-like, I hurt my face smiling so much!
While I would ordinarily get fed up with characters like Hinana questioning their relationship with a celebrity because of rumors, what makes Hinana's struggle feel real and sympathetic (aside from the realistic portrayal of dating a celebrity) is that Hinana doesn't have anyone she can talk to about her relationship. Because she has no outlet, she's left with her own thoughts most of the time and it can be hard, especially at 16, to not overthink certain situations and it's even harder when you have no one to talk to. It's a subtle problem for Hinana and I'm glad it's there to give the situation a more realistic touch.
I really am enjoying this series, even as the contrivances keep piling up next to the rom-com cliches. It's dramatic, its romantic, it's adorable, and I love it!

I still think this series is moving in a fast pace, but in this volume I can say that pacing is definitely better. There were still a lot of things that happened here, but I think the mangaka is finally going back to the normal pacing instead of having the pacing move very fast. I think there are still a lot of possibilities that make me look forward to what will happen next chapter. I hope the pacing will continue to improve from here. :)

Still funny and cute and absolutely uninterested in fulfilling a single one of shoujo's tropes -- Mikimoto continues to introduce them only to have her characters swerve in some other direction and refuse to take on the roles they're assigned. Hinana is sometimes insecure but never stupid about it; Kaede is remarkably thoughtful in considering Hinana's feelings and perspective and checking in with her frequently. Plus, Kaede explicitly asks Hinana's consent at a few key moments, which is amazing and wonderful. My daughter isn't ready for a romance series yet, but when she's at that point I think this one would be great for her, since it does have some drama and hijinks, but also a lot of people working hard to treat each other respectfully.

Ahh! They finally kissed! I love them so much! This is adorable and hilarious, and I'm curious about the flashes of darkness we keep seeing. Hinana seems to have an interesting past, same as Kaede. Hers involves the piano, somehow. On a side note, I feel bad for Akira. He's been getting friend-zoned really hard in every volume. Even though it's a bit sad, it's also very funny. I don't ship him with Hinana at all, but I still feel bad for him. I'm curious to see what ends up doing in volume 5. Hurry up, library holds! 5 stars.

I have to say, her artwork is amazing. Full of bishie guys. The storyline is progressing nicely, too. I squeeed at a few parts. There is a backstory and rival coming so that should be interesting. I'm liking this series more than I did at the beginning! For me what really clinches it is the artwork, it's exactly what I like.

Today’s post is on Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight, Vol. 4 by Rin Mikimoto. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Kaede on it looking at Nana who is on the inside cover. As it is the fourth volume in the series, you need to have read the first three volumes in the series. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this volume. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo romance manga and the complications found in them. The story is told from third person close of mostly Nina but sometimes from other characters for plot development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

Kaede has set up a date to give Hinana her long-awaited first kiss, and the two of them enjoy a magical day at a theme park. But before they can share their promised kiss, a chance encounter with Akira brings unforeseen complications. Then, even more drama unfurls when Kaede’s ex-girlfriend catches wind of the fact that he is now dating someone else…!
Review- Nana and Kaede are getting closer as she learns more about him and his past. They are mostly apart in this volume as he is filming a new series with the new complication, his ex-girlfriend. She is an interesting character who I think will add more to the story than the normal ex storyline would. She has some real personality traits, other than being Kaede's ex and that gives her some depth. Kaede’s former bandmates, will be interesting to see more of, because I want to know what happened. Plus Nana’s friend is working up his nerve to ask her out. So all in all a very solid volume adding some good things to the overall plot and I’m looking forward to see what is going to happen next.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Come ha fatto notare l'autrice nel suo post scriptum, questo è stato un volume abbastanza movimentato, dove, tra appuntamenti al parco divertimenti e primi baci, entra in scena un nuovo personaggio destinato a creare scompiglio: la ex fidanzata di Kaede, Shu Uchida, ovviamente intenzionata a riprendersi il ragazzo (anche se pure lei è fondamentalmente una povera sciroccata).
Vengono inoltre fatti un paio di accenni, quasi en passant, a certi momenti poco felici nel passato di Hinana - cosa che vorrei vedere più nel dettaglio, così come vorrei finalmente capire il motivo dell'astio che i Funny Bone provano nei confronti di Kaede, anche perché questi tizi hanno iniziato a frantumare le palle con la storia della vendetta.
Peraltro sta iniziando ad aumentare pericolosamente il numero di persone a conoscenza della relazione tra Hinana e Kaede, e quasi nessuno vede la cosa di buon occhio.
P.s: io non ho ancora ben capito quale sia il fondamento del sentimento che lega che questi due, ma se la cosa non mi è chiara dopo quattro volumi, allora dubito che troverò mai la risposta. Meglio tirare dritto e vedere come evolve il tutto.

Terrific!
Considering how dull I found the boy band drama in the last volume, I was slightly apprehensive about beginning this one. Fortunately, I had nothing to fear. The first chapter was satisfying and funny. I also liked the deepening of Hinana's backstory. We have the death of parents and an abandoned talent. I suspect piano is tied in with her childhood trauma. It's a big of a trope, isn't it? However, we don't know how or why it happened, nor do we know if the piano plays a part in the story later. The mangaka drew Hinana as such a passionate pianist, I fell in love a little bit. Overall, this was an excellent volume. I do find it odd that there haven't been any moments with her best friend, the crazed Ayase stangirl, where Hinana has expressed guilt or reluctance to boldly lie to her best friend that she's dating her best friend's dream crush.
I laugh at myself that I read so much shoujo these days. I like the stories, and the pacing as relationships develop. Mikimoto-sensei is very skilled at what she does. I'm glad she's sucked me into her world. I may stay for a while.

November 3, 2020This volume is one of the cuter ones, relationship-wise. As an overall series, I do still question exactly why Kaede is so smitten with Nana. It kind of rushed by that part, which in my opinion is usually one of the most important set ups for a shoujo manga.
Not surprisingly a rival has appeared, the ex-gf. It's a little funny that she's a fujoshi, since it fits pretty well with him being a butt alien. They need to clear the air about the problem between Kaede and his former bandmates, and a new girl needs to appear for Aa-chan. I picked up the first of the series on kindle unlimited to check it out and ended up reading the entire series ending up staying late to finish. I just loved the idea for this one the celebrity and the high school girl just works. I love that they both grew so much over the course of the series. This is a quick fast paced sweet whirlwind romance. I'm going to need these for my collection. I was super sad to see the series end but I'm so glad that I got a happy ever after. It's a beautiful story with equally beautiful artwork.

This volume was fun again, I like the developing plot and storylines as well as the developing characters. This was well paced and I like the illustrations. Good series and I look forward to seeing it continue.

Ayase’s manager, I love him. He is a very caring person. Ayase and Hinana are still unbelievably cute and do their best to find time for each other. I love, that Ayase communicates with her, so that she doesn’t feel anxious or unsure. I do hope though that Shu doesn’t get a villain arc.

Wondering in which universe it's ok to look at another girls butt besides the one from your girlfriend lol. The ending was pretty cute though and Kaede looked extra good in this volume.

Questo quarto volume si è rivelato migliore dei precedenti, ne sono felice. L’undicesimo capitolo è quello che ho apprezzato di più. :)
