3.25/5 I really wish Goodreads would finally give us a 1/2 rating option. This series got off to a rocky start. The actual beginning was good but then it stopped and started several times while also repeating multiple scenes over and over. There was also a lot of clunky dialogue scene that was just infodumps and world/character building in the tell not show variety. The was definitely a grim precursor to Fist of the North Star, and while Fist of the North Star might have gotten some inspiration from Mad Max I think Mad Max might've gotten some inspiration from this series.
Violence Jack has definitely aged poorly. Reading the first few chapters, I couldn't help but wonder if the artist could actually draw. But I think that was more down to the character designs, which were the style at the time. However, the more you read, the more you notice the talented artwork in the background.
The story itself, also took a little warming to. But over time, I have found myself getting along for the ride. And now I am enjoying the whole saga. I just hope it doesn't become too episodic.
And as for the Dog People... That imagery will stay with me for the rest of my life. Which I guess is the sign of a great artist. 3/5
