The quality of writing was ridiculously poor, interfering with the flow of reading. The plot was simple and predictable. In spite of this, I still enjoyed the story, and might even read a sequel if one is published.
I kinda want to know what happens next. It seemed to be a quick read. I will definitely add this author to my follow list. That way I know when the next book comes out.
I have really enjoyed reading this first book in the series and can't wait to start reading the next book. After a bit of a slow start the story picks up and its hard to put the book down! I love the way Leo starts off as a lackey for his stepmother and family, only to be the one chosen to go to the guild, that's when the story picks up.
If you like a good fantasy story then you won't be disappointed reading this book...I would recommend this book to anyone who who like me, enjoy a good fantasy story!! 😀
Engrossing story, but in the kindle version there was nothing to mark where one character was and another began. It would go from Leo and then the very next paragraph could be any other character. Even if it was just a blank line with... Or - - - -, just to distinguish a character switch. Still a good read, can't wait for book 2.
The pace was slow the story didn’t seem to have a direction and plot was kind of vague. I’m not even certain where we’re going with the whole story. Leo is training, but he’s not really training. He’s only learned to spells. Is he going to become powerful if he doesn’t even learn anything.
Since I have started reading this author I have really started enjoying his characters. There's enough background without being bogged down with it and I'm looking forward to book 2
Decent enough story. I like the character development. Although the progression is a little fast. The bad guy is totally over the top. With no redeeming qualities at all. I’m going to read the next book just to see if they take down the murdering rapist pedophile scumbag
Although the editing wasn't great and the writing a little simple, the book was surprisingly good. I would definitely read a second book if it comes out.
A good beginning story to what l hope will be a good series. I like the characters good and bad you get good incide in2 there personally. I'll buy the next when I see?
The main idea is good. The characters are good too but could be drawn a bit more clearly. I enjoyed the overall writing and could see that, with editing, this story could be quite popular.
Andrew Wood (no relation) has written an interesting sword and sorcery/fantasy/young adult novel. The plot is good, the dialog improves as the book progresses, but it could really benefit from a copy editor and the use of punctuation. As the title suggests, a young man escapes rural village life with his step-family to become an apprentice sorcerer. He has several adventures and the opportunity to be a hero...if he can figure out how to master his powers...
This has an interesting plot, and should appeal to young adults. It has a little romance, and a few passing references to affection...all PG! Good work, and I expect to hear more from Andrew Wood.
I thought it was fine. Some reviewers had problems with the writing being amateurish, and badly in need of editing and proofing. But I didn't think it was that bad. It was a decent story, with decent writing.
