Aurora Teagarden #9

All the Little Liars

Rate this book

Librarian Aurora Teagarden is basking in the news of her pregnancy when disaster strikes her small town: four children, including her fifteen-year-old brother, Philip, have vanished from the school football field. What's even more worrisome is the dead body found at their last known location.

While the local police comb the county for the missing children, Aurora and her new husband, true crime writer Robin Crusoe, begin their own investigation. Could the two incidents have something to do with a group of school bullies? Are Aurora's father's gambling debts related to the disappearance of her brother? Or could it be that Philip himself, new to town and relatively unknown, is the one responsible?

With Christmas approaching, Aurora is determined to find her brother... if he's still alive.

About the author

Charlaine Harris

203 books37k followers
Charlaine Harris has been a published writer for over forty years. Her first two books were standalones, followed by a long sabbatical when she was having children. Then she began the Aurora Teagarden book, mysteries featuring a short librarian (eventually adapted for Hallmark movies). The darker Lily Bard books came next, about a house cleaner with a dark past and considerable fighting skills.

Tired of abiding by the mystery rules, Harris wrote a novel about a telepathic barmaid that took at least two years to sell. When the book was published, it turned into a best seller, and DEAD UNTIL DARK and the subsequent Sookie books were adapted in Alan Ball's "True Blood" series. At the same time, Harris began the Harper Connelly books. Harper can find the bones of the dead and see their last minute.

When those two series wound to a close, the next three books were about a mysterious town in Texas, called Midnight.

A change in publisher and editor led to Harris's novels about a female gunslinger in an alternate America, Lizbeth Rose. The Gunnie Rose books concluded with the sixth novel.

She's thinking about what to write next.

About a hundred years ago I went through a phase I like to refer to as the “summer of vampire.” I read all about the sparklies, the ones from Morganville, the ones teenage girls write diaries about. I read everything I could get my hands on except those written by She Who Shall Not Be Named. Eventually a friend took pity on me and informed me about the wonderful world of adult vampire stories which featured actual peen rather than an endless case of blue balls and a leading lady whose milkshake most definitely brought all the bloodsuckers to the yard like . . . .

And . . . .

Unfortunately by book 13 I was like . . . .

But it was good while it lasted. Since I hopped on the Sookie train waaaaaaay early I was pleasantly surprised to see Charlaine Harris had written several other series and read all of those as well. And that’s how I met Aurora Teagarden . . . .

Librarian by day and . . . .

Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn! Mystery solver by night – and also day – pretty much whatever time she can put her nosey ass into someone else’s business.

It had been years (as well as several skipped over books) since I had picked up this series, but due to Lifetime Television For Women and my maybe not so healthy girl crush on Candace Cameron Bure, Aurora had maintained a place in my heart. When All the Little Liars popped on my “recommended to you” shelf at both Goodreads and my library’s websites I figured what the hell. The weather had taken a turn to the chilly and it was a bit moist dreary outside making it the perfect night to break out my super sexy Mr. Rogers sweater I wear while reading cozy mysteries. The sight of said sweater caused a reaction in my husband that went something like “OH DEAR GOD, I THOUGHT YOU FINALLY GOT RID OF THAT UGLY FUCKING THING!” To which I responded “NEVAAAAAAAAAAAAH! and also . . . .

Then I commenced reading. And what did I find with Aurora’s ninth adventure????

Sadly, much disappoint. After my failure with the final Southern Vampire books I should have just left well enough alone when it comes to Ms. Harris. There just wasn’t much of anything to this story. The premise of missing/dead teenagers was good, but even though All the Little Liars checked in at a measly 229 pages at least 100 of those could have probably been left on the editing room floor . . . unless you’re interested in reading about Aurora’s grocery list when she goes to the local Piggly Wiggly or what she’s wearing/eating for dinner/etc. All filler with no substance makes Mitchell an angry boy . . . .

What fun to read a new(er) Ro Teagarden book. I read the last in the series maybe 15 years ago. So it was very joyful for me to catch up to the character again. Like the rest in the series, this book is an easy read, and you know Ro is going to solve the mystery in the end. The way Charlaine Harris writes is so natural, and it feels like I’m in a comfortable place each time I settle down with one of her books.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -Library Book 📕

This series has come full circle. In this, the 9th book in the Aurora Teagarden Series, Aurora is back with Robin (Aurora’s boyfriend in book #1) and her brother, Phillip, is missing. I’m happy to see the author has gone back to writing crime/mystery and not about Auroras personal problems. It was also nice to see Aurora find her voice. This was a very good read and I recommend it if you enjoyed the first book in the series.

Definitely my least favorite book in the series. I'm not sure if the problem was too much time had passed since the author had written the previous book or it's just difficult coming up with good stories when you are on book 9 of a series.

Aurora Teagarden and her new husband, Robin Crusoe, are going to have a baby. The news is just settling in when her half-brother Phillip goes missing along with three other kids. If we know one thing about Aurora it's she is not going to sit around waiting for the police to solve the case, she's going to conduct her own investigation.

One of the things I've always loved about these books is the sense of community and how characters are featured in multiple books or at least get a brief mention. It makes for a comfortable type feeling when reading and once again, this book had familiar faces. The problem though was it also added a bunch of new characters to the point in which it felt overwhelming. I normally don't complain about too many characters in a book but I really struggled with this one.

Unfortunately, the plot of having 4 kids missing sounds like it would hold your interest, but in reality I was bored for most of the book. Even though Phillip is related to Aurora and some of the other kids have popped up in other books, I found myself not even caring what happened to them. The teenage drama just did not work for me and the mystery itself was pretty flimsy.

Even though I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have with other books in the series, I still plan on reading the next book as I do really have a fondness for the main character.

Aurora and her husband have recently married and they have just discovered that Aurora is pregnant with their first child. They are so happy at the addition to their family and there are tears of joy when they first see a scan of the baby. This wriggling blog on screen has a heartbeat and after they leave the doctors surgery they set off to share the news. They can't stop grinning but little do they know their happiness is soon to be shattered in a way they couldn't imagine in their worst nightmares.

Auroras half brother has been living with them for a while and he is a good kid who gets on well with his sister and Robin. However their happiness is soon to shatter when Aurora's brother Phillip goes missing along with three others from a football field. One of the missing is only eleven years old and was waiting to get a ride home from school to avoid being bullied. There is no trace of the missing children and the worry increases when a body is found.

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and I could happily enjoy listening to anything by the narrator telling the story. I believe this is the second book that I have listened to by this author and it certainly won't be the last.

"I had never been able to fathom what people did with their moments, if they didn't read."

Aurora Teagarden has just returned home from her honeymoon with Robin and is informing friends and family that she is expecting their first child. Just as she and Robin are happily making plans, her 15 year old brother does not return home. Initially Aurora is not worried until she receives a frantic phone call from a mother looking for her son who is one of Phillip's friends. Aurora soon learns that Phillip is one of four teens who have gone missing including her best friend Aubrey's 11 year old daughter. To make matters worse, and more scary, a teenage has been found dead.

The local police begin their investigation as does Aurora and her true crime writer/husband, Robin. They don't have much to go on and everyone has unanswered questions. Why was ransom only asked for one of the missing teens? Could the recent bullying of the 11 year old girl have something to do with their disappearance? Will they be found alive? Could Phillip be responsible?

Aurora, of course, gets on the case and does not let morning sickness get in her way of finding her brother. Besides working at the library, she is an amateur super-sleuth who seems to be able to get to the bottom of things. Soon Aurora is questioning just about everyone she comes in contact with in hopes of finding out information concerning her missing brother and his friends. Here is where I have to suspend some disbelief and I do not buy that everyone involved would be willing to answer her questions or allow her to question their children. I know it is a small town and there is the everyone knows everyone vibe going on, but it didn't make sense why people would be so willing to be interrogated by her. To make things worse, she has some family drama as her father has come to town naturally worried about his missing son. Could his son's disappearance be related to his gambling debts?

I was sad when Harris stopped this series so many years ago. I really enjoyed the previous books and found Aurora to be sassy, funny, interesting and clever. I was really happy to see that Harris had written another book in this series. I have to say, this was my least favorite one. I do not believe this is due to the amount of time between the previous book and this one. I did not find Aurora to have as much humor or zest. I get that she has morning sickness but still....

I found this book had a lot of filler that I did not need but overall, I was happy to see Aurora and Robin again after approx. 12-13 years in between books. In the books only 3 weeks have passed. Harris does pick up where the last book ended which was nice. I found the mystery in this book to be okay and not great. At the end I thought that's it? It was nice to see Aurora again but this felt a little flat to me. Harris does address many issues in this book: bullying, sexuality, pregnancy, marriage, etc.

So I was slightly disappointed with this book. I have been reading some great mysteries/thrillers and this one just does not stand up to those. This is a lighter/cozy mystery that isn't graphic or explicit. Almost everyone can read this book and not be put off. It is a light book as in this is not a gritty book or one the reader needs to think too much about. Other reviewers have mentioned errors in the book, so I wont go there. Still liked this one - didn't love it.

Not my favourite installment of the Aurora Teagarden series, but it was a quick read. Aurora didn't feel quite like the woman I've come to know in the previous eight books. Perhaps that's because she's pregnant and has quietly married Robin Crusoe, her writer boyfriend and father of this baby. Those are big life changes on their own, but she also has her half-brother, Phillip, living with them and finishing high school.

Phillip turns out to be a pivotal part of this novel when he goes missing. Roe is constitutionally unable to just let the police do all the work and she is constantly asking questions and plotting possible scenarios. There are a lot of teenage complications, so plenty of possible distractions. Unlike Agatha Christie, none of them really prove to be completely unrelated to the crime. Harris weaves it all together.

I love the Sookie Stackhouse series and I enjoyed both the Lily Bard and Midnight, Texas series. I think there's only one volume of this one left, so I will eventually finish it, but I'm glad that will finish it off. I assume that Roe and Robin will welcome their baby in the final book and Harris will wind things up for the happy family.

Freshly married and overcome with joy over finding she's expecting Aurora "Roe" Teagarden has everything falling into place in her life at the moment. That is until four teens go missing, one of which is Roe's own half brother who had been living with her and her husband.

With everyone becoming frantic when the kids aren't anywhere to be found the police are quickly called in but unfortunately things only get worse when a dead body is found. While the police are conducting their investigation Roe and her new husband begin their own investigation to help try to find the missing teens.

All the Little Liars is the ninth book in the Aurora Teagarden series by Charlaine Harris but the first of the series which I've read myself. I have seen a couple of the movies based on the books though so I was somewhat familiar with the characters and setting involved in this series before starting this one but it still seemed to read alright without the others. Having read the Sookie Stackhouse series I knew I would probably love these books so no better time to try than when I saw this up for review.

Aurora Teagarden is such a likable character, a down to earth small town librarian that can't help but want to help others when things go wrong. The setting is one in which everyone knows everyone so it's easy for the main character to go snoopy in her investigations and ask around digging for details in the small town. I spent the entire read with the question of what could possibly of happened to these kids and really enjoyed the journey to finding out along with the ending to the story.

Overall, a great cozy mystery, enjoyable even not having read the others in the series but being a fan of Charlaine Harris already I really should go back and read the others!

I love that marriage and pregnancy has not slowed Aurora down. Charlaine did well in moving the characters on with her next phase in life. It's clear her life as a Bartell is in the past and she has recovered from her grief and moved on. it was a good read. I still hope that she writes more

It's clear that Harris cranked this one out as fast as she could; it shows on every page.

First, there is the lack of any real plot. Okay, so kids randomly get kidnapped and there's NO reason for it? There are a few loose threads of possible motives--one girl was bullied, one was gay--but still, why? Aurora's father is in deep with some mobsters and his wife conveniently disappears? Two teens just ride around with a gun, running kids over, like it's no big deal? The explanation at the end of the book did nothing to cover the raggedly ass holes in the plot.

Second, there were glaring continuity errors and Harris needs to seriously consider firing her editor. In the beginning of the book, Roe calls her best friend to tell her she's pregnant. Later, there's an awkward, randomly interjected scene where Roe reveals her pregnancy to the same friend, who has no idea, and her nearly forty year old friend dissolves into a puddle of residual teen angst...because her friend has a happy life? EVEN THOUGH HER BROTHER HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED, AGAIN, AND HER FIRST HUSBAND DIED AND A MILLION OTHER TERRIBLE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED. And Amina legit thought Roe was just mousy, little teenage Roe, even though this is book 9 and Roe has been solving murders for years. OKAY.

It's clear that Charlaine Harris was phoning it in on just about every level. Roe knows the term "primagravida" but has no idea that her extreme exhaustion is one of the hallmarks symptoms of early pregnancy. And I call bullshit on the doctor's exclamation of "OMG, you're primagravida! Yay!" The same kid gets kidnapped twice in his life...just what? That stretches the limits of even the most diehard believers. The dad's whole messy situation was unnecessary and thrown in because there weren't enough viable leads. Roe is supposedly an older mother at 37 and is soooooo shocked she's just catching up with her friends, yet every single one of her friends has kids who are toddlers. NO ONE CALLS THE POLICE, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE DEALING WITH SERIOUS ISSUES. Betty Jo is threatened with rape and is like, Imma just bounce and let hubby deal with this. Newp.

But I think the true tragedy of this novel is that Aurora doesn't sound like Aurora at all. Harris' heroines always sound a little bit older than they are, a little bit out of touch with regular society (remember when Sookie didn't have a cell phone and was so proud when she finally joined 2001?). This Roe was a stranger. Focus on the Midnight, Texas stories, Ms. Harris. These ones are done.

A must read for the Aurora Teagarden fan !
Aurora Teagarden is back, she's married to a wonderful man, working at a job she loves, and is bonding with her half brother. Life is good for this favorite librarian, until it's not.
Aurora is living with new husband and her teenage half brother, after he couldn't live with his parents anymore. Robin her husband is an ideal husband, attentive, loving and communicative. They have real happiness, and more is about to come. Unfortunately, the good news is shadowed by the disappearance of her brother and a handful of other teenagers in town, and when one of the group is found dead things get serious. The police are called, but there is little to find, and Aurora and her husband take investigation in their own hands. Yes she gets herself in a pickle, but now she has good solid backup.
I loved seeing Aurora again, and to see her so well situated was wonderful. How often do we get to see a good solid realistic relationship ? I hope there is another book in the future. There was a major life changing event that I want to see happen.

I have read all the previous Aurora Teagarden books so I was delighted to discover this book. A variety of emotions is covered including joy, kindness gays, bullying, and evil. Roe and Robin are celebrating their marriage and the bundle of joy they are expecting. Four teenagers are missing and another is found dead. Philip, Roe's brother is among the missing. As events began to unravel the facts that one of missing has been bullied, another has a gay lover and another teenager has been kidnapped and a ramson requested made. Christmas is just days away and Rae wants to find answers before then. The ending will horrify you. I highly recommend this series.

What I liked:
- Love the small southern town setting.
- I really like Roe and Robin and I hope Harris is going to now write more books in this series so we can meet their baby and see how they manage parenthood with solving mysteries.
- The mystery was well thought out and I couldn't guess the ending or who the kidnapper was.
- As with all Harris books, it was very easy to become engrossed in the story; very well written and entertaining to read.

What I didn't like:
- I'm not sure why Harris chose to set All the Little Liars in 2016. The previous books in the series were all written - and set - between 1990 and 2003. They were reflective of their time period (as best I can remember; I read the omnibus editions about six years ago). Rather than do a time jump and make it thirteen years later in the timeline, Roe makes a point about how the events in Poppy Done to Death only happened a few weeks ago (and she is still in the early stages of her pregnancy which she found out about at the end of the last novel) then goes on to heavily reference Facebook, Twitter, Uber and The Walking Dead to name just a few. This messes with the continuity for me as none of these things existed thirteen years ago and so have not been mentioned at all in the previous books.

However I still really enjoyed getting a new story in a series I thought was finished and now I am hoping for many more to come.

All the Little Liars by Charlaine Harris.
This was my 2nd try at possibly enjoying this book since I had been a fan of 3 series by this author. But it was not for me. I found the characters shallow and the relationships superficial. No depth or quality to the writing itself. She chose, in my opinion, to have little if any depth to the environment.

I have found that the authors I most enjoy seem to enjoy their own characters. This adds life and depth to every aspect of their lives, that includes relationships as well living and working environments. This author meets none of those characteristics in this book/story.

I will try again and hopefully the author will decide to develop the character(s) and make the next entry enjoyable.

Aurora is happily pregnant, living content with her new husband and her ½ brother Phillip, when suddenly her world is torn apart when Phillip and three other kids disappear. Of course, Phillip being a new comer to town and a runaway, is blamed for their untimely disappearance. Now Aurora must pull out all the stop to uncover the mystery behind the missing kids before it’s too late.

Harris writes a tale that uncovers bullying and hate crimes all within the heart of Aurora’s home town. This puts a deep strain on Robin and Aurora’s new marriage but when Aurora’s father arrives pointing fingers it makes Aurora dig deep to find the strength to push on to what’s important…the missing children.

Another fabulously penned mystery by Charlaine Harris, All the Little Liars faces the terrible social situations of today while providing a mystery that you can really sink your teeth into.

Although this is a series, All the Little Liars was my first read in this series but won't be my last with plans to back read the rest. I found it quick and easy to follow and didn't feel like I was trying to play catch up or lost by missing previous books.

I received this ARC copy of All the Little Liars from St. Martin's Press - Minotaur Books in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication October 4, 2016.

In this installment of the Aurora (Roe) Teagarden series we have Roe expecting her first child, she's getting to know her half brother Phillip and just enjoying her new marriage with Robin. But things are about to be shaken up for Roe once again when Phillip ends up missing. Police are called and find that more teens are missing and then a dead body is found.

I'm really bad about jumping into the middle of a series and I have not read previous books... yet. I read this authors Sookie Stackhouse books years ago and really enjoyed them so I wanted to see if this was anther series I could get into. I'm actually surprised with how different they are from each other. Despite not having the excitement of paranormal characters, this was a fun read. I really enjoyed the thought process Roe had in trying to uncover her brothers whereabouts. I also wasn't lost since I haven't read the previous books. The author did a good job of providing enough details to keep you up to date on the characters.

Overall, I really liked this book and will read more in the series. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Why did I read this? I've read all the rest & they tickled me for some reason. It's been a long time, so when I saw my library had this one, I thought it a good idea to grab it. Not really. Harris phoned it in, repeating herself a lot, & coming up with a completely ridiculous scenario. Unfortunately, I was most of the way through before I found that out so I finished it.

Reminder to myself - don't read any more of her books, especially this series.

Review - It has been a while since I read the last book in this series, but I immediately got sucked right into the action and back into the life of Aurora Teagarden. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy the mysteries of Charlaine Harris, and how much better they are than the Sookie Stackhouse novels which I have also read. I love Aurora and Robin together, and this mystery is a little different as it involves more of Roe's personal life and more emotional connections than other mysteries, which I really loved.

Genre? - Crime / Mystery

Characters? - Aurora Teagarden / Robin Crusoe / Philip Teagarden / Liza Scott / Josh Finstermeister / Joss Finstermeister / Clayton / Tammy

Setting? - Lawrenceton (U.S.A.)

Series? - Aurora Teagarden #9

I am so glad that Charlaine Harris decided to continue the Aurora Teagarden mystery series, and I'm even more glad that she picked up right where she left off. All The Little Liars was an excellent book in a series I highly recommend.

Roe was obviously back, but she didn't seem quite as sassy as she normally is. Robin is really growing on me, and I can honestly say that Phillip is one of my favorites. I hope he continues to have a part in the series for books to come. Roe's mother is the only character I wish would appear more. She's great!

The mystery was good, but it fell short when compared to previous books. The reveal was honestly disappointing, but Ms. Harris did a wonderful job of creating tension throughout the book.

Overall an excellent book, and, if I didn't have the earlier books in the series to compare it to, it would be easily a five-star read. Highly recommend!

Just as an aside - I remember when I first joined Goodreads and I was reading a review of one of the books in this series, where the reviewer mentioned the detailed descriptions of the clothing really dated the books. I said remember when she was at the dance and she wore that forest green dress with the off-white shoes thinking we'll LOL together. Nope, the reviewer said that she would appreciate me not leaving spoilers. Spoilers?! I described the color of the dress for crying out loud. Anyway, it doesn't seem like the reviewers at Goodreads are as touchy anymore.

This book itself was good but it seems there was too long of a wait for this book. Does it take place toward the end of the last book in that time period or now? That's the ease or problem with writing a series book. If it's not one after the other the time line can really get out of line if the characters don't age accordingly. (Example: the Anita Blake series.) The story culminates in the last few pages which is something I don't care for. Give us at least 10 more pages before the ending so we can see how things wrap up. So, 3-1/2 stars.

Charlaine Harris, most notably known for writing the Southern Vampire series (which was then turned into the TV show True Blood) commenced writing the Aurora Teagarden mysteries in 1990, and published the eighth (and last at that time) in 2003. Fast forward 13 years and she has written and published book nine in the set.

Aurora Teagarden is a librarian turned sleuth, and is up to her 4'11" (5'0" on a good day) height in trouble. I like most of Harris' characters, each for different reasons, but Aurora's love of books has always appealed to me.

As this story commences, Aurora (Roe) has married her second husband of the series, and her and Robin are expecting their first child. Roe is worried as she is an older first-time mother (at the age of 37), and so her and Robin are being careful before they announce anything. Phillip, Roe's half-brother (aged 15) is also living with them as he ran away from his parents - their gambling, philandering father, Phil, and Phillip's mum Betty Jo. Phillip has just started to fit in and make friends in town when he and said friends all go missing. Things go from bad to worse when a teenage body turns up, and another commits suicide.

I had always thought of Harris as a solid writer, but there was something about this books that just set me on edge. It could have been that I have been reading such stellar writing all this year up to now, but this book seemed like a half-assed effort to appease Harris' readers who asked for more Aurora stories.

The writing was childish and immature, and the storyline was under-developed. The ending was bordering on the ridiculous and felt rushed. I've only made that complaint a few other times, but Harris' final book in the Harper Connelly series had that same 'crammed' feeling - like she was trying to tie up everything in a neat bow too quickly and forgot about attempting to have the story make sense.

The characters also felt a bit flat - it could be that it's been a long time between books, but it was nearly two decades between readings of the Obernewtyn series, so I can't help but think that time is not the real reason here. Also, there is something about Robin that I just don't like or trust. I kept waiting for Roe's new hubby to be the kidnapper (even though I knew that wasn't the case). In fact the book would have been just the same without him in it - he literally made no difference to the overall plot.

I kept hanging on, even as the number of pages quickly diminished, that the old Aurora from my memory would come back and start puzzling to figure it out. Librarian-turned-sleuth is what she is supposed to be - but it felt like she was too wrapped up in her own pregnancy (or dazed? I'm not sure), then right at the end she took a random pot shot of a guess and it miraculously all worked out for them. Not my kind of mystery - sorry Charlaine.

Harris' other most recent novels are the Midnight trilogy, and I loved those. This just didn't have the same spark. It felt like I was reading a poorly written episode of Pretty Little Liars with more aged characters in it, as if it was focused on the parents instead of the teens.

To be honest, I was pretty disappointed in this book, and (like HPatCC) I kind of wish that Harris had left well enough alone.

Woohoo! One of the first series I picked up when I started reading was the Aurora Teagarden mysteries and it quickly became a favorite so I was freaking thrilled to see All the Little Liars. And it was a good time. I loved being back with Aurora!

The quick of it is that things are going pretty good with Aurora and her family. Her stepbrother is settling in, she's pregnant, she and Robin are married. Things are good. Until they aren't. Starting with her brother disappearing without a clue along with three other kids in town.

Aurora is a solid heroine and straight forward. Her attitude and strength make her easy to get along with. And her marriage. Yes. I love Robin as well. They're solid and I loved the bond between them even when they were being so severely tested by life. It's just a little swoony.

The mystery was well done but fairly slow going. Since she was pregnant she wasn't as hands on as I remember from past books but it still worked. While I picked up on some of it fairly early on and had my suspicions it was still entertaining watching it all unfold as they tried to piece together the disappearance and root out the darkness in their town. There were definitely some characters I would have liked to have given a good shake or two.

While there were a few spots that had me crinkling my eyebrows--there was a strange pregnancy confirmation at the doctors, talking down about her previous marriage (her first husband died) and bits that were trying too hard to touch on popular social narratives--overall it was a solid story that kept me curious and wondering what had really happened. I'd be thrilled to see the series pick up again. Wishful thinking maybe but I'd love more time with Aurora and Robin.

7/26-- This has long been one of my favorite series so I was absolutely thrilled to see All the Little Liars. And it was a good time. I loved being back with Aurora. There were a few spots that had my crinkling my eyebrows but overall it was a solid story that kept me curious about the truth behind the mystery and wondering what had really happened. I'd be thrilled to see the series pick up again. Wishful thinking maybe but I'd love more time with Aurora and Robin. Full review to come.

1.5 out of 5 - Disappointing and need of better editing.

Had this not been this month's selection for our mystery book club, this would be have been a DNF for me. Other than the climax at the end, there was little suspense or much to engage my detecting skills. The reader, solely as filler, is burdened with characters being introduced and then discarded in the same paragraph along with a lot of mostly pointless information dumping. This would be okay if the characters and information are instrumental to the story moving forward, but they are not.

There are scenes that were included that appear to exist only to add to the page count as they serve no literary or storytelling purpose that I can see. Going back and removing all of the random interactions (e.g, ones not necessary to tell the story), this book would have been half the size. The writing isn't at a level that I would have expected from a best selling author who has written nearly forty books.

I wanted to like this book and Aurora, after all, librarians rule, but it didn't work for me. YMMV.

13 years after finishing book 8, Harris came to the party and wrote this little number.
I'm so glad she did.
Aurora, her friends, and her town, are just all too interesting to walk away from.
What does make it interesting is how Aurora hasn't really aged since the last book, but the technology has leapt 13 years. ;)

In this instalment, Aurora's half brother goes missing and the mystery seems to keep deepening.
There is also the personal story of her new relationship, her father visiting, and a baby on the way.

All the Little Liars is the ninth novel in the Aurora Teagarden series by American author, Charlaine Harris. After more than ten years since the previous book, Poppy Done To Death, Harris has restarted this series at the request of fans who wanted to know what happened to Roe and co. This book takes off immediately from where the eighth book ended. Aurora is (very happily) pregnant, married to Robin Crusoe and looking after her 15-year-old half-brother, Phillip, when Phillip and his new-found friends go missing. This instalment has poisonous tweens, Facebook taunts, several errant parents, a murder, a ransom, a suicide, a red herring or two, quite a few liars and a very exciting climax. Fan will be pleased to know there is a tenth book, Sleep Like A Baby, on the way. Very enjoyable.

This is the first of this series that I have read. I have read the Skokie Stackhouse series by Ms. Harris though so I am familiar with her writing.

It's a good quick read, especially for those who aren't comfortable with graphic scenes, and I enjoyed it.

Aurora is now married to Robin and her half brother, Phillip, is living with them. Phillip and his friends Josh, Joss, and Liza have all gone missing. A girl has been found dead and one of the more affluent families also has a son missing. But clearly there is something everyone seems to be missing and Aurora cannot simply sit still and do nothing. All of this bad news is overshadowing what should be a very happy time in her and Robin's marriage.

Three little girls have been bullying Liza and they are taking this to a whole new level. Joss tries to stop it but it just rolls over to her and then to Aurora and things are clearly worse than they seemed from the beginning.

Will they find the children before Christmas? Why does the death of one girl, the suicide of another and they bullying seem tied to this one case?

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
