Eames Design is the definitive study of the work of the extraordinarily prolific husband-and-wife team whose creative imprint revolutionized the look of postwar American society. Now back in print, this groundbreaking book remains the most complete catalog of their studio ever produced, examining in considerable depth every project--more than 200 in all--produced by the Eameses and their office of topflight designers from 1941 to 1978.
I won’t go into great detail or post photos since other have done so already. This is the definitive resource and reference book on all the projects completed by Charles and Ray Eames. It is filled with thousands of photos (mostly black & white) from the Eames archive. It was published in 1982 and written/compiled by people who worked in the Eames office directly with Charles and Ray. The information included is very insightful and not published anywhere else as far as I know.
The book follows a chronology of the Eames office and dedicates a few pages to each project, not limited to just furniture production. There is graphic design, exhibits, toys, photography, etc. that is also covered.
This is a reference book and documents the works without offering critique or analysis. There are other books that may do that but this is a very objective and factual document of the works. It is essential for any industrial/product designer or fan of modern design.
My only wish is that they make an updated edition in a larger format with more cool photos considering this book is now over 35yrs old.
This massive (456 pages) year-by-year study of husband and wife designers Charles and Ray Eames thoroughly examines their work and their impact on 20th century design. Covers everything from their famous furniture, their renowned short films, to their exhibition design for such clients as IBM and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
