March 1294. Ireland is at a crossroads. The different factions—Irish, Danish, and English—are tearing the country apart with their constant warfare. Hoping to hammer out a treaty, David calls the Irish Parliament into session. Unfortunately, some lords are far more interested in fighting than talking, and it isn’t long before the conference goes awry. With the future of Ireland at stake, David finds himself caught up in a far-reaching conspiracy that puts not only his life on the line, but his family’s as well.
Outpost in Time is the eleventh novel in the After Cilmeri series.
With over a million books sold to date, Sarah Woodbury is the author of more than forty novels, all set in medieval Wales. Although an anthropologist by training, and then a full-time homeschooling mom for twenty years, she began writing fiction when the stories in her head overflowed and demanded that she let them out. While her ancestry is Welsh, she only visited Wales for the first time at university. She has been in love with the country, language, and people ever since. She even convinced her husband to give all four of their children Welsh names.
Sarah is a member of the Historical Authors Fiction Cooperative (HFAC), the Historical Novel Society, and Novelists, Inc. (NINC).
Just super fun time travel, alternate universe shenanigans. Probably jonesing on the King of England being full of integrity and honor and attracting people of the same stripe to avoid thinking about my own country right now, but still- rollicking good story and a great depiction of string theory in action.
Kudos to Ms. Woodbury for staying on top of the 21st century characters and their effect on Medieval times (colloquialisms, physical requirements, etc.).
Outpost in Time is the 11th book in After Cilmeri series by Sarah Woodbury. Born in United States, Woodbury mainly writes, Romance, Fantasy, Science Fiction and Historical Mystery. I've read several books by the same author and I must say her books are quite interesting.
Outpost in Time is an historical book set in 1294 when Ireland is at peak of war. David the only sensible man, I would say the only man with a vision, call the Irish Parliament in Session. But what he doesn't know is that some of these lords are far much interested in war than peace.
With the future of Ireland at stake David finds himself caught in a complex web that not only puts his life at risk but also endanger the lives of those he loves the most.
I have long enjoyed this series and in doing a reread of it I realized I hadn’t reviewed this yet. This is not a book for someone new to the series to start with. This book builds upon the foundations that up and laid in the books before. Set in Ireland and the book follows David Meg and Christopher in dealing with the various clowns along with the inevitable treachery that was common place in the medieval world.
There are several new characters. And the story is fun.
I haven't read a book in the After Cilmeri series I didn't love, and this one was no exception. The characters are like old friends and it's so much fun to catch up with their latest round of adventures. This is one of my favorites in the After Cilmeri series. I really enjoyed Outpost In Time. Best Christmas present I got!
Trying to negotiate peace among the Lord's of Ireland David attempts to let decide among themselves. That's crumbled when outside forces storm the castle and kill most of the lords. David, Meg, Llewellyn and Callum must escape. Meanwhile Christopher learns that life in the Middle Ages is maybe not as glamorous as he thought.
Loved the pace of this one. Lots of unexpected humor and ended at a good spot without a cliffhanger, though I'm interested in seeing if some loose ends are tied up in the next book in the series.
I love this series and author. The books draw you into the life of each character and you feel like you have been drawn back into time for real. I am happily addicted to continue the journey.
There were a lot of people ti keep track of in Ireland. Sometimes that’s more challenging when you listen to an audiobook. I’m continuing the series. It’s been very enjoyable. The narrator was very good, as always.
As in the last 12 books, this one was just as exciting, if not even more exciting as the others. It was worth the time it took to read it. Always/p griffith
I just recently started reading the After Cilmeri Series and I LOVE everything about it. I read all 12 books in 2 weeks and can't wait for the next one to arrive on my kindle next month.
I have stuck with this series, even after having a hard time with the last few books. At first, I almost quit this book after the first few chapters. There are so many new characters and I couldn't keep up with all the new names and points of view. Ultimately, I did catch on. I still think there were too many points of view which weren't important. There was no time traveling in this one which was nice for a change and I enjoyed reading from Christopher's point of view and look forward to seeing more of him in future stories. I ended up giving a good rating to this book because even though I felt it had a rocky beginning, I ended up getting into the story and not wanting to put it down :)
I can't get enough of this series. I eagerly await each new release, then read it the day it's released. Of course then I have the dilemma of having to wait for Ms Woodbury to write the next installment. In this case, when the next book was released I realized that a refresher of this one was needed. Normally I hate to reread books. But in this case I enjoyed Outpost in Time every bit as much as the day it was released. And I don't have to wait to enjoy the next one.
David has gone to Ireland to see about peace and unity. His cousin, Christopher, has come as well along with William de Bohun, Robbie Bruce, James Stewart and Hwu. Those five are off on their own when they see Red Comyn in Drogheda with five shiploads of men. At Trim Castle, the Irish and Anglo-Norman leaders are meeting presided over by Llewelyn with Callum watching his back. David and his mother, Meg, are keeping out of the way of the negotiations. Then all hell breaks lose as half the leaders attack the others, killing them. What is David going to do now?
I love long book series because I get to build strong connections with the main characters. While I was disappointed that this installment didn't have any time travel, the book was still very good. I appreciated not having to keep track of so many different people but sad that I didn't get to see some of beloved characters as they stayed back in England while David, Christopher and Callum met new people. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.
I love this series and are definitely my guilty pleasure. Ms Woodbury again transports me back in time but instead of 1200 Wales we've crossed over to Ireland. Anytime I need to open Google maps to a country to follow a character's travels is a winner in my book. I can't wait for the audiobook version to come out so I can once again make the journey back in time.
The history of the Irish has always been turbulent. This book in the series was well written by Ms. Woodbury, by her research and creativity in writing. The characters come to life in her writing. I can't wait for the next book. Thank you for the wonderful journey!
David has come to Ireland to broker a peace. But, as usual, things go awry with many of those assembled being murdered. David, his parents, Robbie and Callum manage to escape. Christopher is kidnapped, as well. What will happen now? How will David come out on top?
I read it a month ago when it came out--and finished the whole series for the second time today. It was even better the second time. It's hard to wait for the next book to come out!
