3.5 stars!

My first manga read and I love it! who would guessed it was because of Father Figure who FYI it’s not a manga lol! Anyway in “father figure” we are introduced to Dr. Asano Katsuya for just a gimped but it was enough to intrigue me, especially because he seems to get the sick mind of Gabriel. Imagine how glad I was to know Dr. Katsuya has his own series “In These Words” and of course I have to read it. Hopefully I’ll be able to read all the books since I’ve heard it’s quiet gruesome.

New York minute was basically an encounter between David/Katsuya it was a very short read but you definitely felt the chemistry between them. Thank goodness for the added bonus “prey” by Suzume in that one we see exactly how David/Katsuya first meet and all trouble Katsuya goes through and how David helps him. Reading manga was definitely a new experience for me and the illustrations, which were gorgeous brings a whole new level to my imagination. Can’t wait to read more. ♥️

I just can’t find it in me to give it less that 5 stars, even though the story is quite short, and there is not a lot actually happening. But the illustrations are as always so beautiful and manage to convey so many feelings, that there is no other way out than the Big Five.

NYM takes place 6 years before the events in chapters 1-8 of ITW, and tells of Katsu and David’s first amorous rendez-vous. Unfortunately for the reader, the more explicit version happens off-page….
Despite this sacrilege, NYM still contains other, almost equally satisfying stuff. It is full of warmth and a sense of humor that I loved reading after the earlier, rather „demanding“ chapters of In these Words;-).

This beautiful specimen of a man below is apparently part of the inspiration for David Krause, and again, a picture speaks louder than 1000 words…I can stare at this guy forever.

The story "Prey" (17 pp text with 2 illustration, written by Suzume) should definitely be read before reading Father figure, since it contains some pretty major spoilers.

"Prey" takes place one year before Katsu and David hook up, and is told from David’s POV. Katsu has just started at the police department, and is getting hazed by his colleagues, in particular section chief Lane. Hazing is a mild way to describe it, bullying and sexual harassment is closer to the truth as David discovers.

Last but not least; in this doujinshi there is also a very funny 3-frame strip, where it is revealed…

I didn't finish this the first time I tried to read it once I realized "Prey" connected to Father Figure. Now that I've read Father Figure, it made a lot more sense to me.

Much "softer" than what I'm used to reading in In These Words, but David is growing on me!

This is a prequel doujinshi for In These Words. The first one written, but no longer the first chronologically. This is where we are introduced to the reigning favorite seme (according to the poll on the G|P FB comm), NYPD Homicide Detective David S. Krause. I fell in love with him instantly. I also became an instant fan of Suzume who wrote the short prose “Prey” which is included in this doujinshi and is actually a prequel to the comic. This is the beginning of David and Katsuya’s relationship as colleagues and friends and more. It wasn’t part of this story, but, at some point, David makes a comment to Katsuya about it taking a year to get in his pants–not like he kept getting turned down, but Katsuya’s shut up like Fort Knox, so getting past that general level of civility and cordiality would have been difficult. Now when I read this, I always wonder at which point did David realize he was into Katsuya. Was it immediately or was it after a few conversations. Was the restrained protectiveness he showed at the beginning of “Prey” just a David thing (it could be, he’s that kind of guy) or was it a David likes Katsuya thing? The answer probably won’t change anything, but it’s something I’d like to know.

I just can't get enough of Katsuya and David's dynamic. New York Minute might had been short, but between the gorgeous art and clever banter, not a single page was wasted. Absolute perfection.

In the second story (not manga), Prey, Katsuya is first introduced into the police force and some of them immediately make it their job to abuse him upon arrival, leading to the revelation of a glimpse from his past. I loved how David silently observed, trusting him to look after himself and did not interfere until he ultimately had to when the situation escalated into crime. This is the kind of mutual respect and independence I crave when I read romance.

If you want nice artwork and powerful story then grab In These Words manga series and if you want to calm your nerves after so much violence then go for the prequels. Dr. Asano Katsuya spent some time in USA during his training and work in NY, where he met very charming homicide detective who caught his heart and pulled down his perfect three piece suit.

The first prequel with David... <3 Instantly fell in love for this character... *giggles*

No, seriously, it took a while - have to had read the prequel twice to let David climb the ladder to the top. XD
But is was interested from the beginning.

Captivating story, great character and the novel part at the end of the prequel is the icing on the cake. :3

Re-reading this before I gave it a 4/5 but have taken away a star because although I don't think it's bad, it's not that great either. While it's an introduction to Katsuya's and David's first meeting, I felt there was more to be desired.

Soft and fluffy. Nothing really to it since its so short, but great art and as part of the longer story it is a nice reprieve from all the "action" that takes place in the rest of the stories ;)
