Team Grendel is out of options. With a mysterious enemy destroying their refuges, the crew of the Beowulf III is forced to seek sanctuary on an island that wants nothing more than to kill them all, an island that is pure death and evil. While Ballantine struggles to find them a less deadly option, Team Grendel must risk their lives to help a teammate. Something is wrong with Darby and an answer must be found before it is too late. But finding that answer may mean not all of them will make it out. Fear! Death! Terror! BLOOD! Nothing is right, nor will it ever be again, when Grendel and the crew land on Murder Island!

Hello Gemmies! I have an entertaining audiobook review to share with you today. MEGA 5: Murder Island by Jake Bible is the fifth book in the MEGA series. This series is so much fun and has brought me a lot of joy! You get action, humor, horror, thrills, and love, MEGA 5: Murder Island really has it all!
MEGA 5: Murder Island takes place immediately after the events in MEGA 4: Behemoth Island. Their ship severely damaged, low on supplies, and all of their viable refuges being blown to hell, Team Grendel needs help and a rest! Out of options our lovable misfits land on one of Ballentine's secret deadly islands so they can repair their ship and get some supplies. Of course deadly chaos erupts almost immediately. There are no mega monster sharks in this book, but there are plenty of other monsters to keep you on the edge of your seat. And let me just say the creep factor was ratcheted up to 1000 for me in this book. Trigger Warning: If you hate insects you will be freaked the heck out with MEGA 5: Murder Island. Jake has delivered another well thought out adventure with even more twists and turns and secrets to decipher. There are plots within plots. Will we ever get to the bottom of all of Ballentine's secrets?
The relationships between the characters is really great in MEGA 5: Murder Island. We get more insight into the inner turmoil that some of the team members are facing. This is especially true with Darby and Max. Their are some heartbreaking moments, but also the trademark dark humor Jake Bible is known for. I honestly don't know how Team Grendel is going to get through this one, but if i've learned anything, its don't count this team out!
MEGA 5: Murder Island is narrated by one person, Neil Hellegers. Neil is great for this series! His pacing is perfect and he does a wonderful job bringing all of these characters to life. Neil adds just the right amount of sarcasm to successfully nail all of the dark humor. He is also able to add enough differentiation to his voice to give each character a unique personality. His narration for Ronald is particularly great in this book.
If you love giant carnivorous beetles, plot twists, giant crows, dark humor, killer blow flies, misguided scientists, and Island adventures go read this book! Published by Severed Press, MEGA 5: Murder Island is available for purchase from all major booksellers. I give MEGA 5: Murder Island 4 out of 5 gems. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. Happy Reading!
Killer bugs? YES please! Loved the killer bugs. Some nasty birds too. This was NOT a fun island to be stuck on! Much deadlier than the previous books. It constantly felt like someone was gonna die! Mega 5: Murder Island definitely lived up to it’s name.
This series is a lot of fun. Each book has been so entertaining. Part 5 did not disappoint. It had just as much adrenaline boosting craziness as the books before it. Man this series is so much off the walls fun.
I was a little annoyed with the whole Darby “who am I” thing… It was such a great hook. We finally get to learn about one of the most mysterious team members! BUT when it is finally time to hear the truth, Darby is told but the reader is still left in the dark as to what was said. :/ Not cool leaving us hanging til book 6!
My only other small complaint is that the ending felt kind of abrupt. It felt like the author ran out of time and just wrapped up everything as fast as he could. Don’t get me wrong, Mega 5 is still a lot of fun, just wish a little more time was dedicated the wrap up at the end.
Over all, this was an enjoyable adventure. Could not get enough of the killer bug action packed plot. This island felt much more dangerous that the previous books in the series. There were a few tiny complaints, but they didn’t really interfere with the enjoyment of the book. It was still a total blast!
The Mega series is fun brain candy. Not to be taken too seriously. That being sad, this installment seemed a little rushed and didn't really pull me into the believabilty of what was going on. Still enjoyed the characters, but not as much as the previous books in the series.
Jake is, without a doubt, my favorite writer. His books never let me down. This was a great book and as usual it was well paced with lots of action and suspense and some good laughs. One part had me laughing for a good 2 full mins.
Once again Team Grendel finds themselves on another one of Ballentines secret islands, but this time it's not dinosaurs and cave men they are dealing with, it's something else. The fight to save Darbys mind turns into a fight for their own survival. Not everyone makes it out alive, but you will have to read it to find out for yourself. A thrilling read from cover to cover. The ending left me with so many questions, big cliffhanger! However, I am very optimistic that this isn't the last ride for Team Grendel.
This whole series is ridiculous to the point of absurdity, but that's probably what makes me keep reading them. Sometimes its fun to just turn off your brain and enjoy the ride! Pretty safe bet if you've read the first 4 books in this series you'll enjoy this one.
Are there any creatures the team Grendel doesn't have to face? 🤔 Megalodon, cavemen, dinosaurs, bugs it's just keep coming in each book. But they are great fun and action packed.
