She's got her hands on a new art project.I'd rather she had them on me.They call me a player, but really I'm a lover.I fall in love seven days a week.Give me a few minutes and I'll charm my way into any woman's heart. Give me a few hours and I'll have her flat on her back, headboard dented, panties on the lampshade, and begging for more - guaranteed.Until I'm knocked off my feet by Nell, the bangin' art school chick with the killer bod.No, it isn't some love-at-first-sight kind of thing. In fact, I hate how she looks at me with those sharp, gorgeous eyes and I'm tripping over my feet, my swagger lost. What is it about this woman that drives me crazy? She deflects all my advances. She doesn't laugh at my jokes. She makes me feel like I'm the joke. That's okay. Hard-to-get is a game I know very well. And I'm ready to play. The College Obsession Romance series centers around a group of friends and the relationships they form during their time at a small-town Texas school. They are angsty, steamy new adult novels with HEAs and NO cheating. Although they are obsession-themed romances, there are no stalkers or psychos! Though this is the second book in the College Obsession Romance series, it can be read as a standalone. For the most emotionally-satisfying experience, however, it is recommended to read this series in order. It begins with "Read My Lips", followed by this book, and comes to a conclusion in "With These Hands".

Beneath The Skin is the second book of the College Obsession Romance series and can be read as a standalone. This book is Brant and Nell’s story. Brant is Clayton’s (Read My Lips) best friend. Brant changed his major again and hopes that this is the right one. He meets Nell in an awkward situation. He tries to charm her anyway, but he fails and that never happened before. He wants to know Nell and finds a way to see her again. Brant asks her out and Nell agrees. The date doesn’t go like Brant wants, but he doesn’t give up on winning Nell over.

Nell goes to the same college as Brant and she’s a talented artist. Her art is provocative, but it’s what she wants. Nell dislikes Brant on first sight and tries to push him away. Brant does eventually starts to grown on her and she wants to be with him. Brant is just happy to get a chance with Nell.

After reading and loving Read My Lips, I was really excited to start this book. I wish I liked it more. There definitely were several parts that I loved a lot. I adored the epilogue and the bonus epilogue of Read My Lips. The book was also hot.

I liked Nell and I loved Brant. Nell’s past still affects her present life and her art. Art is the most important part of her life. She can’t handle critique well. Nell is lonely, feisty and independent. She doesn’t trust easily. Brant is easy going, loving, funny and more talented than he knows. He loves women. He’s very intrigued by Nell. Brant and Nell need each other to be better and to be happy. They need each other more than both of them think.

I mostly struggled with Nell. I wished there were more hints about her past, that her past was revealed sooner or that her thought provided more clarity on her actions and what she said sometimes. I didn’t understand most of her actions nor why she was so judgmental. Nell was lucky that Brant wanted her so much and never gave up on her. I didn’t always understand why Brant wanted Nell.

I’ll definitely read the next book With These Hands, because it’s Dmitri’s story and I’m happy with who his woman is going to be.

a player man-whore meets his match in a girl that breathes & lives art as her defence mechanism, just like he s using his "lover skills" as a way to hide the fact that he hasnt found anything that would fill out his soul, that would hold his interest in a long term...

Two people that are basicaly lost and trying to find themselves by any means necessary...no matter how trivial or suddenly substantial they feel...

They would eventually fill each other s void and find a way to "exist"

"The skin is the lie. The truth of all art, lovers, and monsters lives beneath it."

I thoroughly enjoyed BENEATH THE SKIN. This is the second standalone novel under the College Obsession Series, with an opposites attract and semi-instalove trope, embraced in an perfect mix of humor, poignant depth, beautiful art. Brant and Nell were totally opposites of each other. Brant was an easygoing, happy-go- lucky College manwhore. Nell was a shy but eccentric artist who did not trust trust men like Brant. I loved Brant's openness and I adored Nell's intense but quiet strength. Even though Brant comes off as immature that at times I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his antics, I loved that beneath his flamboyant persona, he also had depth. And Nell helped bring out the best in him. Actually, they were good for each other. I enjoyed their dynamics.

I love Daryl's writing style. He's an intelligent writer. His words are raw, real, and relatable. And when he inserts humor in a situation, it's naturally funny and entertaining. I am excited to read about Dmitri's story next.

I received and read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Well now...where we had sensitivity and sweetness and hotness and a very theatrical production in Read My Lips...this book about the very naughty (like he really needs to be put over my knee and spanked) Brant, Clayton's best friend, will make you laugh and at times cringe (he gets himself into so much trouble!). I found myself just shaking my head at some of his antics but knowing that this author would eventually allow his characters to get to that place where we can find respect and contentment and understand what motivates them.
There are so many hilarious, naughty, sexy, dirty and shocking events in this book that I refuse to spoil anything...just urge that if you love Banner's writing and you expect the unexpected, you will love Beneath The Skin as much as I did. Rest assured he will be continuing on with Dmitri's book next and personally I can't wait...or even decide which of these boys I like the most =)

5 "I'm your fucking fire" Stars

I loved Brant in Read My Lips and I just knew I had to have his story. Lucky for me, I'm a huge slacker and didn't finish Read My Lips until right before Beneath The Skin was released. So I got to do the one-two punch with this series.

Brant is the manwhore. He has a reputation. He rarely sees the same girl twice. And his first encounter with Nell isn't a pleasant one. He's naked, having just experienced a near death, sexual encounter.
I suppose it's tricky to come when all your energy's spent resisting a fight-or-flight response due to a very genuine fear of being fucked to death.

After this little hook-up, he is left alone in a classroom, his clothes not within reach. Naturally the next class starts to file in. Enter Nell.

Nell is the dark artist who puts her pain and her dark and her fire into her work. Her passion is her art. She's the dark and broody character in this book. Brant is cheery and a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. Nell is the exact opposite. She also seems to resist all of Brant's charms.

That's where this story takes off. We see artistic Nell and trying to find himself Brant. We see the cat-and-mouse game they play. We see the push and pull. It's so much freaking fun. What the other book had in seriousness, this one has in humor. That's not to say it doesn't get serious, it's just a funnier book.
"Learn anything about the stars in astronomy today?" Eric asks, his voice a bit too sweet for sincerity.
"Yeah," I grunt back. "They're all fucking crossed."

Then there's Venus, the planet named after the Roman goddess of love or whatever, and it's the only planet that rotates in reverse. Which I guess makes sense, because why the fuck wouldn't the planet named after the goddess of love betray the rules of its own solar system, rebellious little bitch that she is.

We get to see Dessie and Clayton again. Nell's first meeting with Dessie is one for the books, that's for sure. We get to see Eric and Dmitri and Sam. And I LOVE Sam! She's so...blah. Her monotone, deadpan ways have me dying to see where her story will take us. Oh, wait, we're talking about Brant and Nell....

This book is...I need more words for "hot" because that's becoming inadequate. These two are on fire in this book. I expect nothing less from the self-proclaimed lover, Brant. And Nell, with all her darkness, just screams "freak in the sheets" and when they come--(see what I did there?!)--together it is magnificent.

And when Nell's darkness is too much, will Brant be there to see her through? Will this relationship survive the demons that reside inside?

"Then let me into the dark with you."

I am obsessed with the college obsession series. I fell in love with Dessie and Clayton in Read my Lips and got a taste of the bad boy Brant. I've been dying to get the rest of his story. Finally!! Brant isn't really the playboy that everyone portrays him as. He's got a deep side within him. He just needs someone to really "see" him. Nell is his someone. She's got that dark and tortured artist thing down pat! A traumatic past will do that to you. I love them together and what they do for each other. This books gives you a wide range of feelings. Brant is hilarous! And Nell does some pretty funny and interesting things herself. Especially when handcuffs are involved. There's some darker and sad moments in there as well. And I kept getting little snippets of Dimitri and Sam. I had a feeling the next book would be theirs and I'm really looking forward to it. Daryl is doing an outstanding job with this series! Can't wait to see where it goes!

I really loved this story. It was such a fun read. The way Brant thinks and Nell’s antics had me cracking up. I adore these two together. They really are perfect for each other. My favorite part was watching Brant just… blossom.
And the artwork! I’d swear this book is illustrated for how vivid it all was in my head, which was an exciting treat.
Oh, and Sam! I LOVED her in Read my Lips and I completely fell in love with her over again and harder in this book. My excitement for book three can not be contained!

Loved this book so much!!

I've loved everything I've read by this author. This book was no exception. The characters are very likeable. The writing is phenomenal, as I've come to expect from Mr. Banner. I cannot wait to read Book #3.

Daryl Banner has written a wonderful story about finding your place in the world and figuring out what you want from life. In Beneath the Skin, we get to know Brant, Clayton's (Read My Lips) childhood buddy and former roommate. This story was a great read for me for a few reasons... Daryl Banner does a great job connecting you to his characters. You get sucked into their emotional journeys and I for one was quickly drawn back into those college days where I was feeling very much like Brant- "What do I want to do with my life', "Is this really for me' or "Maybe I should try this?" Nell's past is complicated and she is a very interesting character as well. Nell's struggle involves coming face to face with those long lasting effects that alcohol abuse has had on her childhood. Brant and Nell battle through a lot together and on their own. Experiencing those awkward first date moments and hearing their inner dialogues as they try to figure each other out was so enjoyable! Watching them discover what they need from each other and themselves was really the heart of the story. We also get to know a few other friends of Dessie and Clayton's that we were introduced to in Read My Lips. The author has definitely planted the seeds of the next installment of this series. I cannot wait to see what's in store for the others!

OMFG, HOLY S*** and WOW... Is how i'm going to start this review!!! Due to the fact they are the first words i spoke after i finished reading this book!!!
It was absolutely mind blowing in every way and Mr Banner certainly knows how to pull emotions from his readers... I laughed, i cried and i got angry... Was one hell of a rollercoaster ride that's for sure!!!
Brant (sighs) is gorgeous in all ways possible, but he knows it and is a total man whore... Until he meets his match... The one woman who captivates him and brings out feelings he's never known!!!
Nell is 'darkness' in everyway you can imagine... She has a past that will shred you heart into pieces... She wants Brant... But she won't allow herself to have him... Or will she?
This book is full of twists that as i already mentioned, will take you on one hell of a ride!!!... And boy can Daryl write a scourching scene... So damn hot it will leave you literally breathless and panting!!!
I recommend everyone... READ THIS BOOK ASAP!!!... You truly do not want to miss it!!!
A fantastic 10/10 read... And i can't wait to find out what's planned for the next in series... I've stocked up on tissues for tears and batteries for... Well i'll leave that to your imagination...

Beneath The Skin is yet another wonderful book in the College Obsession series. I was very interested in Brant's story, the presumed man-whore from Read My Lips and it was a real treat getting to know him better.

From the moment Brant and Nell meet, in the most unexpected and amusing of ways, you know these two are definitely going to go toe to toe and will enjoy every single minute of it. We get to witness first-hand how flustered, yet intrigued Brant is with this mysterious beauty and how Nell can put him in his place like no woman before her.

Both come out of their shells a bit with the other and love for them was never even a consideration. But somehow, they just get each other and find the light in each other's darkness.

I enjoyed both Brant and Nell's journey and liked the complexities that threatened to keep them from really being together. There is a sadness that lives in Nell and even though a supposed player like Brant didn't seem to be her savior of sorts, it was wonderful to see that he could pull it together and be the man she needed. Even when she pushed him away.

I enjoy the author's style and his take on the college lifestyle. These are truly great characters that he has created and I'm looking forward to more in the series.

A solid 4 stars!

This is the first book of Daryl's that I have read. I love that the characters are deep. It isn't all about sex, but there is a great story line. Just like the title states its "Beneath The Skin". The souls of two very different people have come together to help each other not be afraid of real feelings. Even though they have no idea they are actually guiding one another. The male character Brant hides his fears behind crude humor and sexual innuendos. Nell hides herself behind icy words and her outrageous art projects. The two of them start out playing the game of who can best the other. Brant wants to get Nell alone for some one on one horizontal mumbo, but realizes that he actually wants to know more about her as a person and not just sex object. Nell at first wants nothing to do with Brant. To her he is nothing but a playboy and she tries to embarrass him to the point of leaving her alone. As she teases him she realizes Brant actually has more than just an obnoxious personality. Will the two of them ever come to a cross roads and act on the fire burning inside for each other? You will need to read this book to find out.

Stars: 4.5

True to form, Mr. Banner writes a funny, light-hearted romance with a few unexpected twists. If you didn't read Read My Lips, the first book in this wonderful series, you won't be lost because this book is a standalone but I recommend reading it because it introduces the main character of this story.

Brant is self proclaimed lover of women. He's a love them and leave them type. He basically flits from one college coed to the next never becoming attached and never developing feelings for any of them.

Then comes Nell. Their first encounter is when Nell finds Brant in a compromising situation in the back of her art class. Brant is captivated by her from that first meeting, but Nell uses her sarcastic standoffish attitude to not let him get too close.

Surprisingly Nell ends up pushing Brant away. Their is such a sadness in Nell that breaks my heart. Will Nell help Brant reform his man-whoring ways of will Nell just be another notch on his belt? I really enjoyed Nell and Brant's journey through the choppy waters of college life.

Every book I have read by Daryl always has something that resonates with me. That one piece of the story that you take away with you and hold in your heart as all other memories and details of the plot fade. He simply has a way with words that transforms ink on a page into a story playing in your mind. Quotes that you book mark to reread on another day.

Daryl's characters have a depth to them and well developed. They are well written and you'll find yourself addicted in no time. I'll be honest, after meeting Brant during Dessie and Clayton's story I wasn't entirely keen to read a player's story. However the combination of Nell's tortured soul and the insight into the read Brant well surpassed my expectations.

I shouldn't be surprised that Daryl has once again managed to create a wonderful story. He is so good at what he does. I for one am looking forward to getting to know Dmitri and Sam in book 3.

We met Brant in Read My Lips. He is cocky, a womaniser and lets be honest, kind of a tool but oh so loveable. I couldnt wait to see more of him, so to speak!

Women is a language he speaks fluently....until he meets Nell!

And let me tell you....Nell is mean! Is she tortured, misunderstood, confused and hurt? Yes, she is, but she is so mean to Brant!!! But it did make me laugh even though I felt so sorry for him. But he gets his own back, breaking her down bit by bit, was poetic!

But alls well that ends well....

Again, this book is written with fantastic humour (Im sorry but a-cooter-mah-twat-a... was laughing for ages!) and also an underlying message. As with Read My Lips, his book is just beautiful and so, so  beautifully written.

This series is so good, I feel like I have actually enrolled at the Klangburg Art School!

I am a big fan of Daryl's writing. It's smooth, it's eloquent, and it makes me crave more.

After book 1 (Read My Lips) I could not wait to get my hands on Brant's story. He was cocky, he was sexy, and he was a player. <---understatement of the year. I thought for sure, there was NO WAY Brant would be able to settle down, be with just one girl, and fall in love. Nope. Not gonna happen.

Enter Nell. Puts up with no shit, from anyone. Especially the likes of Brant. She gives as good as she takes. She is exactly what Brant needs.

This was my second book by Mr. Banner and again I was thoroughly satisfied. This author's writing easily takes you away and puts you inside the pages of the story.

I highly recommend Beneath the Skin - amazing characters, flawless writing, and a story that gives you all the feels.

I love getting to know Brant and Nell. I love that they are both one way on the surface but as we read the book the layers and layers of them start to show. They both are really deep characters.
Once I started reading it I really didn't want to put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen next to these characters.
I loved that we got to still see the other characters that we fell in love with in book 1. I have been anticipating this book since I finished book one. I'm glad its included in this book because if you haven't read it first then you are going to want to start it right away and get caught up. I can't wait for the next book in the series because I don't want to leave these characters.
Great job Daryl. This is an amazing book!

Mr. Happy-go-lucky collides with Ms. Dark and Intense!
Take a fun, loving trip with Brant who specializes in one field and one field only... WOMEN! A man-whore whose art lies in seducing every woman he comes across... until his next conquest. But what happens when he meets that ONE woman who plays his heart like a seasoned pianist? A woman who's only known misery and pain and feels incapableof love? Nell and Brant's romance is a work of passion that took two lifetimes in the making. A novel about finally finding direction in life... putting aside all the falsehoods that blind you and moving onto something more valuable and real. 5 Artistically Beautiful Stars for "Beneath The Skin" which not only greatly entertained me but also touched my heart.

Beneath The Skin was the second book that I have read from Daryl Banner. The first book was Read My Lips, which is the first book in this series. I loved that story and particularly Clayton. I mean who doesn't love a hot brooding tattooed man of few words?! Also in this first story is when you first meet Brant, Clayton's Man-whoring roommate. Meh, right? Wrong...
I always say you can't judge a book by its cover, and Brant proves that to me again. He comes alive nicely in this book. Daryl does an incredible job taking a player and making him loyal and loving. Nell is not easy to fall for, but she is beautifully layered, and Brant see through those layers.

Overall fantastic story... so Ill be reading on and reading more from Daryl Banner!

I loved this book. I couldn't wait for Brant & Nell's book. We met Brant in book #1. I knew he had a great story & boy was I not disappointed. The characters are well developed and I love Mr. Banner's writing style. I feel like I'm there. I feel every emotion the characters feel. Nell has a very troubled past & I just wanted to jump in the book to hug her many times. I loved the art & theater. It's a subject I really enjoy & refreshing to read about it as there's not many books out there like this. The book is not shy of twists & turns. I love the surprises & the fact that I couldn't put the book down! Can't wait to read more!

I must read

Brant can't decide what he wants from life. He jumps from major to major, girl to girl. Nell comes into his life and flips it upside down. There are times you want to knock each of them upside the head and other time you just fall in love with them even more. The book pulls you in and makes you feel as if you are part of the story. Make you feel as if you are there watching it all happen.

Another winner from Daryl Banner! I have discovered that I love Banner's writing style and appreciate his knowledge of the subject matter (theatre, than arts, etc). Brant and Nell were not the most likeable characters to start with, but their growth together makes them a loveable couple by the end. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

An outstanding read. Truths and fears can be our own worst enemy. Can Brant and Nell find themselves? Will hiding behind his cocky grin and sexy looks win Brant his girl? Can Nell see past her fears and take a chance on the one man that can bring her light?

Emotions run high and misconceptions become lost to the truth...these two people have so much to give. You just have to look Beneath the Skin. A must read!
