Gloria et Marie ont trente ans. L'une a un mme et un mec. L'autre pas. Elles voudraient avoir plein de thunes, mais faut pas rver. Αυτό δεν είναι βιβλίο, είναι λογοτεχνικό ατύχημα! Άοσμο, άχρωμο, άγευστο, αδιάφορο, στυλιζαρισμένο, σα να το έγραψε μία έφηβη που περιγράφει άτονα την αδιάφορη ζωή της και τις ανοησίες που ξεχειλίζουν από το μυαλό της. Κρίμα το χαρτί και το μελάνι, κρίμα το χώρο που πιάνει στα ράφια των βιβλιοπωλείων στη θέση άλλων καλύτερων βιβλίων.

Felt like someone gathered intrusive thoughts and presented them on paper. Short sentences and sometimes unconnected meanings, but realistic fragments of thought regarding a female friendship through the lens of both women, each in different stages of life. Not really a great experience as it didn’t feel like having a clear plot.

For a non-native speaker, this book was a wonder. Funny dialog and a grown-up plot (well, not so much a plot as a slice of grown up life). I felt like I had finally graduated from German student to person living in Germany. Unfortunately, her second book (Lügen) was not as good, although the dialog was just as easy to understand. If you can enjoy a book from which the most you might learn is how important it is to look your best when you plan to see someone for one of those once every ten year sort of catch-ups, and you feel ready to test drive your German in a fast little number, give this novel a chance.
