What can a previous escort turned sex surrogate and the brainy and standoffish doctor possibly have in common? A whole lot of chemistry!
I'll be honest, I hated and I mean HATED Elle in the first book. She's rude and cold and she certainly doesn't mince words or make friends. She's an ice queen in every way and there's only two sides to her; the professional and the woman you don't want to be on the wrong side of. I wasn't sure I'd ever like her, but Roni Loren proved me wrong in just one chapter.
By The Hour gives the reader a whole different side of Elle; the side that tells you why she is the way she is and you can't help but feel for her. Whether it's sympathy or pity, you understand her and the depth of her hurt. This is a woman that suffered the worst sort of betrayal from someone who was supposed to love her and she never recovered for it. She lashes out before anyone gets close. She's closed off and rude. She's the one everyone avoids at a party...except for Lane Cannon.
Lane is a man who has his own demons from the past. A previous escort, he's working hard towards his dream career. He's damn good at what he does now, even if the snobbish doctor never ceases to remind him how little she thinks of his lowly sex surrogate ways. But one vulnerable moment leads to some sizzling hate sex and things are irreversibly changed between them forever.
There's quite a bit of back and forth that goes on between Elle and Lane. Elle struggles with letting her walls down and in her hard shell of self preservation, hurts Lane on more than one occasion. As much as I wanted to rage at her or judge her, it's tough, knowing her history. This is a woman that has every reason to lose her faith in men and love, so she struggles deeply with accepting Lane's affection.
What I really appreciated about her is she was never simpering or whiny about it. She's tough as nails and she certainly gives as good as she gets. She's mouthy but she's also funny and has a soft side to her that she hides beneath her hard layers.
I loved the chemistry between her and Lane. Their hate lust was entertaining....
But what really sold me was watching the development of their relationship. It's a slow build and they each have their own insecurities that they battle, but they also help balance each other out. I loved how understanding Lane was with Elle and I loved watching Elle's fierce protectiveness and caring heart come out more and more when it comes to Lane.
By The Hour was a fantastic addition to this sizzling series. It was packed with just as much feeling as steam, and it was a book that kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end.

5 'L + E' Stars!
Let me take a minute to recover after that amazing read that I just finished! Holy mother, do I love Roni Loren's Pleasure Principle series! I was definitely hooked after reading the first installment but By the Hour just blew my mind. I love Roni’s writing, I loved the enemies to lovers theme of the story, I loved these characters and this smoking hot couple. I loved getting more than I expected because Elle and Lane are surely more than you would expect after reading that “hate to love” blurb. Gah, I am in love!
So, By the Hour is the second novel in the Pleasure Principle series and, if you have read the first book, you know where it is focused: a sex therapy center. Well, imagine a therapist known as The Ice Queen falling in lust (and love!) with the sex surrogate in the building. You would imagine there is no way for them to become more than a hate fuck, right? Well, you are very wrong because Elle and Lane hide many layers of secrets from each other and as time advances and they start really knowing each other, it’s impossible for those sparks not to turn into love!
He didn’t require submission. Or trips to the kink club. Or even blow jobs—though, those were always nice. No, what he was going to require would terrify her more than any of that.
She was going to have to let him in.
Roni Loren surely knows how to write one hell of an explosive love story! I really enjoyed Off the Clock, the first book in this series, but By the Hour has totally bewitched me. This author’s writing is absolutely fantastic, the story developed fluently and I loved seeing these two apparently opposite characters unable to fight against their chemistry. It all starts with a mind-blowing hate fuck but that connection after is impossible to stop! As the story progresses and this couple starts showing their true selves to each other, you’ll melt all over the place. Not only because their oh-so-HAWT sex scenes but also because of the emotions that start growing between Lane and Elle.
“I can see that, you know?” he said, keeping his voice steady. “Where this could go. Our future. Sharing a bed. Maybe a house one day. Kissing you good-bye each morning and looking forward to seeing you each night. I’d be a damn lucky guy. I never considered how much I wanted that kind of life until I met you. You make me want things I thought I could never have.”
I love erotic romance. I consider it, together with contemporary romance, my absolute favorite genre. And Roni Loren delivered a fantastic piece of erotica with this novel. As I said, not only the sexual tension and the actual sex are off-the-charts but also because Roni built an outstanding relationship between this couple. It’s beautiful to see them opening their hearts, finally leaving all the obstacles aside and starting an amazing relationship. I loved these two together and I wish we could have more because I don’t want to say goodbye to them. Still it’s easier to do it because I am so happy they are living their much deserved happily ever after!

Therefore, I am rating By the Hour with 5 STARS because this enemies to lovers story completely bewitched me. Lane and Elle are such a wonderful couple and I am sure you’ll love reading their explosive and emotional love story. Believe me, all the emotions are completely worth it. You’ll melt with these two and their beautiful connection! I do hope to read more books by Roni Loren because this series worked 100% for me. Highly recommend reading this one!

Love didn’t fix everything. That was a lie the world sold in movie theaters and in books with pretty covers.
One of the most interesting and complex female characters I read lately.
I don’t like my heroine nice and weak, I look for strong women and prefer my heroine rather on the anti side.
Floved this woman!
Ice Queen! Strong, professional, intelligent woman.
Some readers may call her bitter, and somehow it’s true. But after the betrayal she lived through I never, not a single time, judged her behavior.
Major spoilers:
The heroine’s husband cheated on her with her sister. He even let the h go down on him after he had unprotected sex with her sister. Sick as*hole. F*ck him!
The worst part – h’s parents and friends just accepted this situation and supported her sister who was about to marry this coward. WTF?
With all that baggage this woman was a saint! I would act worse.
I highly respected her and, as I said, never blamed her.
I didn’t like the male protagonist much. He was arrogant, and extremely unsure. He was 9 years younger than her (he 30, she 39). He used to be male escort and worked now as sex surrogate.
I pitied his past, but it was his decision and his past. Why was he offended when a highly intelligent doctor/h didn’t want her colleagues to find out she “dated” this man? I could relate to her doubts.
Ok, we shouldn’t judge people for their past, but if someone made a “mistake” and it collided with his present, why to play an offended school-boy? He was a male prostitute, and he worked as sex surrogate.
Such profession is needed, no question, but it’s also understandable why your partner would have his/her doubts.
The h was cruel a couple of time, but I could get her motives.
And he annoyed me. Common, this supposed dominant thing is getting old…
He was not a dominant, IMO. He was a hurt boy who was looking for control to erase his past. I didn’t like it.
He spoiled almost all sex-scenes.
But she saved some of them. Not every day you read a book with a woman telling a man to f*ck off when he instructs her to beg him to s*ck his c*ck Really? To beg? Meh.
Nevertheless he did fine as they met her mother & sister, he saved her and acted good.
I adored how she stood up for herself.
I floved how she treated her ex-husband and her sister.
I didn’t like that she forgave her sister at the end. I would never be able to do it.
The best part – no embarrassing situation for this heroine, no miraculous transformation and no la-la land happiness. She found her love, but didn’t give up her strength.
I liked that at the end he quit his job as surrogate.
Cute epilogue.
Fabulous writing.
His eyes softened and he tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. “Ready to be my princess, doc?”
“No.” Her lips curved.
“I’m the queen. I’m always the queen.”

Omg I loved this story so much.Roni Loren delivers an emotional,intense,passionate and super hot romance.You could feel the passion and connection between Elle and Lane from the first moment.
I'm in love with Lane, this man is the perfect alpha male!!!I love how he sees Elle's true self and not the ice queen that all the others think she is.I loved every moment between them, they're so erotic and passionate.Seriously these two are like an explosion!

4* all around me STARS!!
I did not know this book exist if it's not from a friend. I forgot to stalk Roni Loren from facebook, apparently. Well, I've been wondering where is the hell book two, so here it is. I really have fish memory so I totally forgot the main characters for this book. A bit recap from previous book, Off the Clock, is about Marin and Donovan who works at a elite health or mental institute called The Grove. It's not an asylum - more like private healing place for troubled rich people. Donovan has a fuck buddy before Marin and this is her story.
The Ice Queen, Dr. Elle McCray couldn't help her jealousy when she saw those two couple (Marin and Donovan) while she glued to her seat in a party. Elle's previous failed marriage makes her build wall with no relationship/string attached. This cocky bastard, Lane Cannon intrigued by her. He works as a sexual surrogate but Lane has dark secrets. Although she hates Lane, Elle couldn't deny his sexy offer. And for one night, she let herself go.
If I'm not wrong, I kinda hated Elle in the previous book. Totally bitch mode. But I was surprised with the real Elle behind her poker face. Of course, she's a brilliant and successful doctor but her personal life such a disaster. Elle act all tough and impenetrable in her armor but the truth is she's longing for someone real. But her mind is too focused on her ex's lies and betrayal.
Lane is someone's Elle must avoid. He's the opposite of her. While Elle is private person; Lane's happy go lucky kind of guy. With his troubled past, Lane try to re-build his life. He's responsible and totally professional with his job. However, Elle tends to ruin every connection that Lane tried with her. But she couldn't deny him more. I started to like their slow-burn chemistry.
Damn, Lane was so HOT and totally into her. He's also mentioned that he's a Dominant and I believe him. I loved his authority towards Elle. I liked how vulnerable she is around Lane. Even she's not a submissive, but I enjoyed her struggle with Lane. Everything he did to her made me fanned myself.
There was so much back and forth between Elle and Lane. Mostly because of her deep-rooted problem. I liked how their relationship turns from minus to something. Elle realize what she has done and wanna try with Lane. She wants to believe him so badly. Anyway, Elle has family drama and Lane didn't abandon her. He help her through with it. He's totally a keeper!
Overall, beside their sexy times, I adored this couple with their own problems. No one is perfect. The story was nicely written with steady paced that I couldn't put it down. Elle is totally a different person and changed woman. She's no longer bitter, more 'friendly' and open. What a perfect couple! They're completed each other with happy ending.

Overall Opinion: This was enjoyable. I liked that they both saw past each other’s exteriors and bonded with the person beneath it all. I liked their banter and I liked their connection. I didn’t like how hurtful the h could be without seeming to realize it, and I also didn’t like how the H projected his issues with his past on the h. I wanted much more in the end and I was left with some unanswered questions. But! Overall this was a steamy and surprisingly emotional, enjoyable read.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Elle and Lane’s story. Elle is a doctor and Lane is a sex surrogate at a therapy center and have butted heads since meeting. When they decide to have a hateful, hot night together, things start to change for them both. Elle is damaged from her past and doesn’t want anything that resembles a relationship, while Lane is willing to play her games while also pushing her boundaries. There is some family and ex drama, some sad moments, and some sexy times...and they get a HFN ending.
Point Of View (POV): This alternated on focusing between Elle and Lane in 3rd person narrative.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.
Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings. It was a hate-to-love to f-buddies-to-more story.

After how much I loved the first book in this series, this was quite the disappointment. It did have great banter and there was all the deliciousness of enemies to lovers. I did like how Lane took care of Elle and the way he saw past her tendency to lash out. But most of this book was a struggle.
There was a ton of slut-shaming and just a general gross attitude from Elle about Lane’s job as a professional surrogate at the hospital she works at and his past work as an escort. Even once they start dating, she dismisses his work and they never discuss what his work means for their relationship and what parameters should be in place. This is especially important for her because her ex-husband cheated on her and she has a lot of fears around that. There was also a really poor understanding and depiction of BDSM.
There was also some insensitivity across the board, such as when Lane notes the irony of “hearing voices in his head” as he drives to work at a mental hospital, when really he’s remembering past taunts. This is not at all the same thing as hearing voices, which he would know well from working at The Grove.
Later in the story, it becomes clear Lane has a learning disability but he fights being diagnosed with dyslexia at every turn out of…pride, I guess? I didn’t understand his resistance, especially when he wanted his degree so badly and the alternative was failing.
This was a personal pet peeve. Lane twice says he wants to get a degree in “clinical social work.” That isn’t a degree. You can get a bachelor or master degree in social work. Clinical is a licensure designation. Between this and the BDSM rep in this book and others Loren has written, I’m really starting to wonder about her research process.
I also had trouble understanding why Elle would spend any time with her toxic family. They failed her big time and her mother’s diagnosis was not enough reason for her to attend the wedding of her ex-husband and sister. That’s right: her ex cheated on her with her sister. That whole scenario was horrible and I wanted Elle to cut her losses and leave them well behind.

Lane's book!! Eee! By the Hour was sexy, captivating and down right seductive.
So. Elle called Lane a hooker. And in the past that was kinda true. Now, though, he's a sexual surrogate at a rehab center--where she works-- that caters to the rich and famous. And he's real good at his job. Friendly, social, handsome. And he gets under Elle's skin something fierce. He's everything she's not and they both just kinda piss each other off. A right pain in the ass when you work together. And, well, really have the urge to lick one another, too.
Lane was an amazing hero. He's thoughtful, kind, has an edge and enjoys doing wickedly naughty things. Had some nice depth and was trying to better himself. And Elle. She's a fucked up handful of gorgeous, brilliant doctor. She had a lot of issues and cultivated an ice queen reputation to keep everyone at arms distance. Even though she was prickly I really liked and felt for her. Their dynamic was something else. The fire that came from not really liking each other but at the same time being overcome by all those lusty impulses, by kinks that matched and dark spots and fantasies that rubbed along right good.
And, the heat. Holy flipping hell. These two were scorching. There's a little bit of a dark edge to their encounters and their chemistry just flowed off the pages. So damn yummy and sensual.
Loren writes a damn sexy read but there's always extra layers and struggles that just make you ache for the characters. Both had really suffered through some difficult things in their pasts that still influenced their daily lives. It made for a very vivid and captivating read.
Overall, Loren has a talent for bringing unique characters and situations to life in an almost magical way. Sensual and curl-your-toes sexy. By the Hour was a delicious win.

BY THE HOUR by Roni Loren was an emotionally driven, scorching hot love story where the characters will take you by surprise at every turn. I had mixed feelings going into this read, because I was NOT a fan of Dr. Elle McCray in the first book, but once you start and get to the thick of her emotionally drawn issues, you will definitely understand her better. And Lane Cannon...wow! What a character! I actually ADORED him instantly and you just know that he is the ONLY man who can tame the good doctor.

A dominant? Great. Of course he was. "I'm not submissive."

SO GOOD!! i absolutely loved this book and I would totally recommend it to anyone in search of some hot and heavy time.. both Elle and Lane were amazing with their own insecurities and worries but i loved how they eventually learnt to let go sooo thats a definite 5 stars for me! will be looking out to this author too

Off the Clock, book one of this series, was one of my favorite reads of 2016. But, I’ll be honest, while I adored Lane in that book, I hated Elle with a burning fiery passion. Which is exactly why I had to read this one. I had to know how the author was going to turn my feelings for this character around… And, man, did she ever.
Dr. Elle McCray, aka The Ice Queen, is standoffish and cold with a razor-sharp tongue; her biting comments keep people from getting too close, becoming too friendly. Isolating herself is how she has survived her ex-husband’s devastating betrayal. And trusting someone new isn’t something she can handle.
Enter Lane Cannon.
Outwardly friendly and outgoing, inside Lane has his own demons of insecurity and self-doubt. A sex surrogate at The Grove and studying to become a therapist in his own right, he has come a long way from his past as an escort. Still, it’s his past that has him doubting himself, his future, and his ability to ever have a relationship.
What starts out as wild, incendiary hate sex quickly turns into something more elusive. But with all of their issues, they can’t help but inadvertently push each other's buttons.
Dynamic, rich characters are something I’ve come to expect with this author, but she has outdone herself with Elle and Lane. The journey we go on with these characters, both individually and together, is intricate, intense and engrossing. Their issues play off of and into each other so well, it’s impossible not be absorbed by their story and rooting for them to overcome their past.
By the Hour is one helluva hot read wrapped around a transformative romance. Loaded with witty banter, vivid characters, and a scorching story, I didn’t want to put it down.

Review For: 'By The Hour' bt Roni Loren 3.5 Stars'By The Hour' bt Roni Loren is book Two in the "Pleasure Principle" series. This is the story of Dr. Elle McCray and Lane Cannon. I have not yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book. Elle is now a divorced women trying to get over the hurt of being betrayed by her husband and someone else who she was close too. Elle has found herself to be a uptight snobbish person with a chip on her shoulder. Lane is completely different from Elle in that he isn't taking live so serious. Lane used to be a paid escort and now is working as a Sex Therapist and going to college. He is also younger than Elle by a few years. Elle used to look down on Lane but they slowly got to know one another and agreed to be sex buddies. But that lead to their feelings growing into more than they had planned. I guess I expected a lighter read. It was fine to be honest, I enjoyed it and I wasn't bored for once. The thing is, I didn't like the MMC. Why make him a Dom, I have no idea. But mostly, I didn't like that he expected the FMC to be okay with his job. This is a hard thing to accept so I don't get why they didn't discuss this until the 3rd act break-up (haha no, I know they didn't discuss this because wym a book without a dumb 3rd act break up????). Yes the FMC was judgmental but I kind of get the rest of her reaction. The cheating with her sister was brutal, I can get why she pushes people away and hurts them. I don't know, I expected him to be more understanding. And he had so much ego; the part with the dyslexia was annoying to read. Yes, it's not a good thing but there's so much worse than being dyslexic and knowing this could change his life. But no, this fucking caveman had too much pride to accept help. That was hypocritical of him, and I couldn't take it anymore.
I haven't read the previous book and I think I won't because I don't want to see two FMC fight over a man. I like Elle just fine in her book, I don't want to hate her.

What a nice surprise this read was. I mean, I already knew I most likely would enjoy it because ... it's Roni Loren! But I wasn't quite sold on the main characters. The hero is a therapeutic sex surrogate, and while that's not being an escort, the pesky side of me wasn't sure how any heroine would be ok with a hero that has this profession. But I loved Lane from the first book, loved his personality and couldn't wait to explore more of his sexiness.The heroine, Elle, we sort of came to hate in the first book. She's a hard woman and I really wanted to dig into her head and find out what was making her tick. She's strong and successful. Very driven. And making her be the one to be ok with the hero's profession just made for an interesting mix.
I always go into a Roni Loren book trusting the process. There's an ease to the development of the relationship and the ways that Lane breaks through Elle's barriers that I absolutely loved. The dynamic of seeing her be so in control and in charge of her life but giving in to someone that at first she saw as beneath her was a lot fun. These two had sizzling chemistry in spades. I may go as far as saying that as far as the characters went, this was better than the first one.
While this is erotic romance, and it's still signature Loren hot, I didn't think it was quite as hot as the first one. But things definitely made sense for these two characters so I never felt as if anything was missing.
I can't wait to see where this series goes. There's definitely a few people that I would love to see more of, including a certain patient rock star with a ton of issues to deal with.

I've been waiting for forever for the second book in the Pleasure Principle series. Dr Elle McCray is an ice queen. She's offish, isolated and aloof. She has reason to be though and as her backstory unfolds one can understand why she is the way she is. And then there's Lane Cannon. Sex surrogate. All round nice guy just trying to make something of himself. He has lived a colourful life and has worked hard to get to where he is. Elle being judgmental and snobbish makes assumptions about him and this made me hate her in the beginning. She eventually matures and opens her eyes and along the way there are some smokin' hot scenes to make up for her judgmental ways. These two are the most unlikely suitable characters. Their story is rife with issues and obstacles. I loved their character development and thoroughly enjoyed this.

One of THE BEST books I've EVER read!
If I were stranded on a desert island and could have one book with me, it would be this one. Not a cliché to be found, smart and realistic characters, excellent word choices, SMOKING HOTNESS, a steady pace and a very happy ending. I am Roni's newest biggest fan!!!
Lane is perfect. A total alpha, but he's perfectly content with letting Elle have control...except in certain situations, sexual and otherwise, then I saw his true alpha-ness (and holy moly, you WILL dump your current book boyfriend for Lane). He sees past Elle's hard outer shell and coaxes a different Elle to the surface, in spite of the times she hurt him over the time they were together.
Elle certainly earned her nickname of Ice Queen, and I enjoyed reading how Lane helped her take a very different look at things she ordinarily would have dismissed with her iciness. But, while she struggled with the realization that yeah, maybe she should be a little nicer, she stayed true to herself when a choice arose that she simply could not choose the higher road (and I don't blame her one bit...I couldn't have either).
An erotic romance for sure (heavy on the "erotic" AND the "romance"), every single moment of this book was incredibly tasteful and full of equal parts emotional and physical.
I seriously cannot say enough positive things about this book, and I will ABSOLUTELY, without a shadow of a doubt, read ANYTHING Roni writes!!!!

oh my god,
I didn't expect to love this as much as I did because I detested the heroine in the first book but now I'm like, what first book? this book blew its predecessor out of the water, this book doesn't even play in the same league,
no but seriously, you know how I have a shelf for asshole heroes? Elle McCray makes me want to create an asshole heroines shelf; girl is really something. but as the story progressed, we got more of her backstory, her layers are stripped one by one and now she's probably one of my favourite Roni Loren heroines. Lane Cannon is also awesome and I feel for him so, SO much, wanting to be seen as more than his past occupation, wanting to better himself and prove himself to everybody that he's more than his body.
I just have so many feelings for Elle and Lane; their antagonistic banter, the way Lane took no shit from Elle and called her out on her mistreatment of him, the way they opened up to each other, their chemistry, I JUST HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS-

I picked up this book as I am going through a major book funk. I needed something fun and that I knew I would like. By The Hour met all the criteria and more. Loren is just one of those authors who you know can help you break down that wall.
Watching as Elle "The Ice Queen" melts under the charismatic Lance is such a fun and joyful ride. That's not to say that it doesn't have its hurdles, but you are sucked into this wild ride.

Já tinha gostado do anterior da saga e esta Elle era dura de roer, apetecia entrar no livro e esbofetear a personagem de tantas atitudes parvas que ela teve com o Lane mas adorei o romance destes dois e o facto dele fazer com que ela brilhasse sempre mesmo em momentos difíceis como com a família dela, aquele final foi mesmo top! Óptima leitura!

I loved the book. It was almost perfect. But it was missing an ingredient for me. Hence, the four stars. But that most definitely is a “me problem,”
because if I had a standard checklist this author nailed all of them.
A hero that is a good man (my type): Check
A heroine you want to hug to death: Check
A unique/uncommon/unformulatic plot: Check
Good flow of the romance: Check
Cringeless sex scenes: Check
Usually these five are the key essential aspects of a romance story.
Lane like every other hero had a chip on his shoulder, but unlike most heroes, he did not use it as a license to be an absolute a**hole. He was actually very sweet, and considerate (yes the magic word). He had his one moment, which while selfish of him to expect a partner to be okay with. He really did not intend to hurt his lady love. He truly was not grasping the situation, but he did quick enough for my liking.
Now Elle? I adore bitchy heroines, not the selfish or narcissistic variety, but icy ones who are frozen because their heart was broken. And Elle’s was broken in epic proportions. I would have to agree with Lane that Elle was abused, both emotionally and mentally (and even physically if I think about it). And it always breaks my heart when a victim doesn’t even recognize it. I do wish the author would have explored this and Elle’s history bit more. Aside from the fact I am a nosy bitch who likes to know the A to Z of my couple, I do think this story given Lane’s occupation needed it. But that’s just me.
Otherwise it was an extremely enjoyable and entertaining read. I was not able to put it down.

A unique/uncommon/unformulatic plot: Check
Good flow of the romance: Check
Cringeless sex scenes: Check
Usually these five are the key essential aspects of a romance story.
Lane like every other hero had a chip on his shoulder, but unlike most heroes, he did not use it as a license to be an absolute a**hole. He was actually very sweet, and considerate (yes the magic word). He had his one moment, which while selfish of him to expect a partner to be okay with. He really did not intend to hurt his lady love. He truly was not grasping the situation, but he did quick enough for my liking.
Now Elle? I adore bitchy heroines, not the selfish or narcissistic variety, but icy ones who are frozen because their heart was broken. And Elle’s was broken in epic proportions. I would have to agree with Lane that Elle was abused, both emotionally and mentally (and even physically if I think about it). And it always breaks my heart when a victim doesn’t even recognize it. I do wish the author would have explored this and Elle’s history bit more. We're first introduced to Elle and Lane in Off the Clock, book one of this series and honestly, I wasn't a fan of Elle's but I kind of fell for Lane straight away and just knew we would be getting a book about him. I couldn't wait. Even if I had my doubts about there being redeeming qualities about Elle.
What I discovered is that there really is someone out there for every single person and all it takes it for them to find each other for a whole world of fantastic possibilities.
Elle is abrasive, unfriendly, judgmental and cold, but as you get to know her, you start to see a bit of a softer side of her. It's starts to become clear that her hard exterior was well-formed through a bitter and jaded past. The details of which I never saw coming.
Lane is just the opposite. On the outside he seems very easy-going, friendly and content. On the inside he's insecure, angry and overcome with feelings of inferiority and unworthiness. His job as a sexual surrogate is controversial but useful and fulfilling as it's giving him the opportunity to finish college and fulfill his dream of being something more.
From the first chapters of the book you can feel the passion between Elle and Lane, even if it is a hateful kind of passion. She's thinks he's nothing more than a prositute and he knows she's just a lonely ice queen but neither can deny an intense attraction between them. Lines will be crossed, pasts will come back to haunt them and trust will be tested. Can two jaded and bitter people really find love or are some things just not meant to be.
Once again Roni Loren has blown me away with the way she seamlessly blends together some of the sexiest scenes I've ever read with intelligent, strong characters and a plot line that never disappoints. She never fails to have me squirming in my seat while simultaneously rushing from page to page to see what's coming next. If you're a fan of love-hate stories layered with sensuality, romance and angst with plenty of hot, flirty banter, I HIGHLY recommend you pick up this book.

OH man, how I loved this book. I don't even think I can describe how much. Elle--the cold hearted on the outside, warm blooded and hurt on the inside--doctor, has been put through the ringer and it's a wonder she has a hard time trusting men, but when Lane comes strolling over, I knew from the get go, that she was going to be a goner. This book was absolutely brilliantly written, and I loved the witty banter and dialogue. And the sexy times? Holy smokes.... HOT HOT HOT!
Totally recommend this steamy RomCom!

I love the Pleasure Principle series. It feeds the part of me that find sex studies fascinating - which drew me to study Gender so extensively at University. The way Loren blends erotica with academia and feminism is wonderful. I think that I've learnt more about psychology and interpersonal relationships from her books than I have from more 'standard' fiction.
In terms of the characters, I really enjoyed Elle - which was shocking, given her role as the villain of Off The Clock. I would have loved to see more of her at work, being a general bad ass, like we see Marin and Donovan in the previous instalment. Loren mentions Elle's professional brilliance in passing, but we only get glimpses of her in work mode rather than he pleasure of sitting in on sessions etc. I'm not just drawn to these books for the erotica content, I find the subject matter and the concept of The Grove fascinating.
I ended up really empathising and seeing myself in Elle, she was a well drawn character. Lane was a little two dimensional, I feel like I was told what makes him a tick but never really felt I truly understood it or cared all that much. I liked him, but his motivations/history seemed rushed over. If it weren't for that I'd have given this book a higher rating.
Overall, it was very enjoyable. I devoured it in less that 48hours!

I love hate sex reads and this one is good. Imagine the sweetest guy with a stick up her ass women. One night stand and bam. Shit becomes real, both have issues and try to work it out together. A great read I really enjoyed it

I really enjoyed Lane. A hot book in the series. I'd definitely read more if there's going to be more.
