Gudeon, Adam. Peeper and Zeep. Holiday House, 2017. $14.95. Content: G. PICTURE BOOK.
Peeper is a bird. Zeep is an alien. They are both lost. They go to Frog for help. He invents something to help them go up, but then they go down again. Frog tries again. Everyone tries again. Then they rest. Luckily, Peeper and Zeep’s parents find them for a happy ending. The illustrations are stylistic and fun. The story is cute, but nothing special.

Reminiscent of the Dick and Jane learning to read books from the 1960's, but a cute update with Peeper and Zeep!

Seems to be enough repetition to use for guided reading and I loved the idea of a bird and an alien, but something about this just didn't make me want to use it with kids.

Sounds like a basal reader story, a la Dick & Jane & Spot. Ending isn't quite clear, last page is glued to the cover like an end page.

I really liked the idea of a lost bird meeting a lost alien but the ending just fell kind of flat, and I feel could get confusing for a little person.

This is a great easy reader (though published in picture book format) for beginning readers. Lots and lots of repetition, a funny, but relatable story, and simple, engaging illustrations.

Cute, simple reader. Illustrations had less zip than other books in the series. Recommended for ages 4+.

This book is so darn cute. The illustrations are adorable and made me smile from start to finish. I love that this book shows the power of unexpected friendships and working together to accomplish a goal. I cannot wait to use this book in my classroom to create art projects and talk about teamwork. With simple text a new reader will love reading this fun adventure of Peeper and Zeep!! Such a delight!

Peeper, a bird, and Zeep, an alien, have both crashed and are lost. Together, can they solve their problems and get home again? Frog tries to help, but with little success. Fortunately they both have parents who look for them. Simple ink and digital illustrations accompany the easy-reader text. This not extraordinary, but we always need more easy readers. I just wish they hadn't eliminated the end and front papers. The title page is, literally, the first page of the book. And the last page of the story is on the inside of the back cover. This is problematic for library use, although the binding is good.

This book is obviously for very beginner readers, and I think some impulse to rate it low might come from the fact that it's a bit repetitive, the sentences are short with short words, etc.--but these are obviously features for the intended audience. I admit the plot might not be the most original thing I have ever encountered in a picture book, but it's good and there are a lot of positive messages woven in about teamwork, creativity, trying after failure, etc. even though the book is not remotely preachy. The style of artwork (which you can see on the cover) is not my personal favorite because I go in for lavish illustrations and lots of detail, but I think it's cool that the art somewhat mimics what a kid might actually draw, and I can imagine a lot of kids being excited that a book that has drawings that look like *theirs* is out there in the world.

Very simple 'I Can Read' picture book for early childhood to first grade. Not a lot to this in my opinion but I did enjoy the illustrations.

Ink artwork with digital coloring complement a sweet story of unlikely friendship. When Zeep, an alien, crashes his spaceship, and Peeper, a bird, breaks his wing, the two them seek assistance from Frog. He has all sorts of ideas for getting them home safely. After several failed attempts, it's clear that there's more than one way to travel. Not only that, but someone else is looking for the missing youngsters too. Although it's a bit abrupt, the ending for this picture book works.

Friendship and Phonetics (or is it Phriendship and Phonetics or Friendship and Fonetics. LOL) . Those are the themes of this FUN, warm, wonderfully illustrated story.
