Author Deepak Chopra uses the metaphor of Merlin raising the future King Arthur in the Crystal cave to teach the reader 20 lessons that will transform the reader's life.
Each lesson or chapter is divided into three sections. The first section tells a story where in Arthur learns his lesson from Merlin. The second section is understanding the lesson where the teaching is given further explanation. The third section is called Living the lesson which is how to apply the teaching to daily life.
The final chapter teaches the 7 steps of alchemy. They are a nutshell summary of all that Merlin taught Arthur. In this book the goal of alchemy is to transform the person from being an allegorical lead into an allegorical gold.
The steps of Alchemy as follows;
Innocence: the first stage of life. There is very little individuality. The baby lives in the essence of timelessness . This is a state of pristine reality where in we realize that everything in the universe is connected all is one. Babies also do not cling to their emotions but release them as soon as they feel them. There is no illusion of good or bad everything just is.
Birth of the Ego: this is when we develop the sense of I or me. We see ourselves as being separate from creation. We also start to identify with our temporary body something which we cast off when it is old and worn out. What is our identity but experiences transformed into memories. Individuality is an illusion.
Birth of the achiever: this marks the individuals quest for independence to go out there and experience the world. This manifests itself as an urge to aquire things and material possession. This is the ego's way of telling itself that separation is endurable. It is loveless and controlling. It is this urge to control things and to stave off death that brings about chaos and anxiety.
The giver: in this phase the emphasis shifts from taking to giving. This connects the individual with others. This also ameliorates the anxiety of trying to hold on to everything and protect it from enemies trying to take it. The break down of separateness begins.
Birth of the seeker: this is when the quest for the Grail or enlightenment truly begin. The seeker identifies with the world at large. The seeker realizes that the material world no longer offers happiness . The seeker turns towards the spiritual. Love is not just an emotion but a force that burns away the impurities of illusion. L
Real love is unconditional and not based upon our preconcievec notions and expectations.
Birth of the Seer: the full realization that the material world is an illusion. We are all spirit encased in a material vessel. The seer wants to see the face of God. Self image, how we see ourselves is seen for what it is a deception that is not real. Often times we identify ourselves by the roles we play in life. Words create a virtual box which encase us. Of course this is not who we really are. That is something more profound. Think of it what is identity. Most people have more than one personality encased in their head and they are in conflict. The seer gets beyond this. The seeker knows that to have desire is normal and natural. Desires are fulfilled naturally with out any effort. To exert too much effort only hinders the fulfillment of your desires.

Deepak Chopra follows the way of all self-styled "spiritual" gurus. Here's the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) of such quackery -
1. Pick an obscure metaphor for a little-understood concept (in this case Merlin and Arthur)
2. Concoct very weird tales that can be passed off as meta-physical connections to certain inexplicable concepts.
3. Relate to those concepts using a chain of even more convoluted logic in such a manner as to confuse readers.
4. Package the whole product using really cool buzzwords like "spiritual", "consciousness", "enlightenment", "universal", etc.
5. Sprinkle the whole thing with "Global Gyan"
Lo and behold! A self-help book is born.
I found this (much like 99% of all self-help books) a complete waste of time.

This book has so many nuggets of valuable information, I read it slowly over many nights. Though much of the information is familiar, I enjoyed the format Chopra delivers with the story of Arthur and Merlin. I digested the lessons with reflection in my own life and the choices I make. And in the same slow and stead manner, I allowed my perspective to adjust and change when needed.

Terrible book! Pretentious and horrible, I left this book on a park bench. I didn't want it sitting next to my other books and contaminating their space. This book was not worthy of my bookshelf.

Phenomenal book. Fascinating, and Magical!!! A must read for those on the path for purpose, transformation, fulfillment, joy and contentment in life. The old saying "The teacher will arrive when the student is ready" is very true for those of us who is willing to open our hearts to learn, understand, and become a pupil. The complexity of life is overwhelming, yet was exemplified with stories and lessons in the Way of the Wizard as told through the character portrayal of the young King Arthur and Merlin, the Wizard.
It will take years of searching within to get to the crystal cave, but remember this... the Seeker will always be Seeking!!!

I think this is a bookt hat must be read as opposed to heard - as I did with the audiobook version, nevertheless the metaphors and parables of merlin and arthuer, were 'ok' but not too appealing for some reason in my preffereed method of learning. Ive read/heard similar style books but this just didn't get me excited enough to give it a serious listen as opposed to it ending up being a passive listen towards the end..perhaps thats why ive rated it so low as I didnt get enough of it...
but i prefer Deepaks straight up seminar talks about health...mind and body compared to this parable style which just sounds like a rehash or rushed work to cash in on his rise to fame at the time of the release of this book..anyone else get this feeling too?

Entre los muchos libros que he consumido, había olvidado que ya había leído este. Pero mientras iniciaba la lectura, que me está encantando, fui a buscar aquí a goodreads, descubriendo que en efecto si lo había leído. Solo entonces empecé a encontrar familiaridades en la lectura. No sé si me sugestiono o de verdad estoy recordando a medida que voy leyendo. El hecho es que el libro ha sido como antes de cinco estrellas, es precioso y lleno de sabiduría.
Me hace molestarme un poco con mi memoria tan reducida... pero me ha hecho disfrutar este libro como la primera vez... ya veo que debo releer más a menudo. Redescubrir joyas como estas tiene un encanto bastante diferente.

June 25, 2010دیپاک چوپرا Deepak Chopra با رویکردی نو به این اصل قدیمی، دوباره توجه میلیونها نفر را به حقیقت وجود انسان جلب کرد. وی پزشکی است که در نسخههایش بهجای قرص و دارو، بازنگری در باورها و عقاید معنوی را توصیه میکند و شفای جسم را در پیوند با روج میجوید. او پزشکی ”جسم و روان“ را ترویج میدهد و معتقد است منشا? بیماریهای جسمی در مهجور ماندن روح آدمی است. وی که تأثیر بهسزائی در آشنائی مردم غرب با پزشکی تجربی هند گذاشت، هماکنون یکی از برجستهترین و معروفترین نویسندگان و سخنرانانی است که فصل مشترک ایمان و علم را بازگو میکند.
دیپاک چوپرا در سال 1947 در هندوستان و در خانوادهای پزشک به دنیا آمد. پدر مروج پزشکی مدرن غربی بود در حالیکه پدربزرگش او را با پزشکی تجربی هند یعنی ”آیورودا“ آشنا ساخت.
وی پس از آنکه در پزشکی فارغالتحصیل شد جهت ادامه تحصیل به آمریکا رفت و همانجا ماندگار شد. او در زمان تحصیل در هند مرتاضی را مشاهده کرد که پس از 6 روز دفن شدن در خاک، زنده مانده بود. این تجربه برای دیپاک تلنگری بود تا به مسائل غیرمادی بسیار عمیق و جدیتر بیندیشد، اما دگرگونی اساسی در شیوه زندگی و نوع نگرش دیپاک چوپرا به فلسفه پزشکی، زمانی رخ داد که ده سال بعد، به هند بازگشت و با یکی از اطباء مطرح آیورودا (Ayurveda) ملاقات کرد.
کافی بود این پ��شک سه انگشت خود را روی مچ دست یک شخص بگذارد تا از تاریخچه بیماری او در گذشته، حال و آینده مطلع شود. طی اولین ملاقات، او مچ دست چوپرا را گرفت و تشخیص داد که بسیاری از افکار چوپرا غیرضروری و بیهوده است! همچنین به او توصیه کرد که اوقات بیشتری را در کنار خانوادهاش بگذراند و با آرامش و حوصله غذا بخورد.
دیپاک چوپرا بلافاصله به این توصیه عمل نکرد. وی طبق عادتش زیاد قهوه مینوشید و روزی یک پاکت سیگار میکشید. تعصب او علیه عرفان و تصوف سرزمین مادریاش سبب شده بود به کلیدی که میتوانست راهگشای درمان اضطرابش باشد، دست نیابد.
اما دیری نپائید که با مطالعه پژوهشهای افراد متعدد در مورد مدیتیشن (یکی از روشهای مراقبه) که حاکی از تأثیر قابل ملاحظه آن در کاهش اضطراب بود به شدت تحت تأثیر قرار گرفت و پذیرای مدیتیشن شد. مدیتیشن فرآیندی بدون سعی و کوشش بود که به آرامش عمیقتر او کمک میکرد. نتیجه این بود که چوپرا در عرض دو هفته سیگار را ترک کرد و به دعوت استادش به مطالعه و تفحش در آیورودا پرداخت.
همان سال چوپرا به ریاست انجمن آمریکائی طب آیورودا رسید و بعدها نیز به ریاست مرکز پزشکی و سلامتی آیورودای ماهاریشی که در آنجا به کنترل و مدیریت استرس پرداخته میشود، منصوب شد.
اوایل دهه نود میلادی، دیپاک چوپرا مدافع تمام عیار مدیتیشن بود و در کتاب ”شفای کوانتومی“ نوشت: ”بدن شبکهای هوشیار است که میتواند با مدیتیشن برنامهریزی شود و زندگی پاک، سالم و مصون از بیماریها و پیری را نوید دهد.“
دیپاک چوپرا با بیانی جسورانه از نامیرائی و جاودانگی بدن انسان سخن میگوید و بدین ترتیب توجه بسیاری از مردم غرب را که به نگاه زمینی خو کردهاند، بهخود جلب میکند. برجستگی کار چوپرا در پیوند زدن میان عرفان و حکمت رازگونه شرق با منطق فرمولی علوم غرب است. او حقیقت حکمت عارفانه و شاعرانه شرق (بهویژه هند) را به زبانی که برای مردم عقلگرای غربی قابل فهم باشد، ترجمه میکند.
اما با وجود استقبال گسترده? مردم از اندیشهها و توصیههای او، اعضاء انجمن پزشکی آمریکا بهراحتی پذیرای نظرات چوپرا نیستند. وی خود، دلیل آن را تجربی بودن توصیههای پزشکیاش میداند که برای پزشکی نوین در آزمایشگاهها اثبات شده نیست و از اینرو مرکز پزشکی چوپرا تحت پوشش اغلب بیمههای درمانی قرار ندارد!
اطباء آیورودا معتقدند که این طب، دانش زندگی است. دستورات این علم پزشکی که از پشتوانه چند هزار سال تجربه برخوردار است، براساس تکنیکهای مدیتیشن، رژیم غذائی متعادل، یوگا و تمریناتی برای کاهش استرس و افزایش سلامتی پایهریزی شده است. در واقع در این طب سنتی، از سیستمهای بدن و توانمندیهای طبیعی بدن برای شفا و سلامتی کمک گرفته میشود. بهعنوان مثال یکی از روشهای درمان در این طب، فشار درمانی است. کف دستها و کف پاها به نقاط مختلفی تقسیم میشود که هر نقطه مربوط به حوزه? انرژی یکی از اندامهاست. فشار بر این نقاط به روشهای متفاوت به تشخیص، درمان و آرام کردم درد در اندام مربوطه میانجامد.

سعی در حفظ سکوت یکی دیگر از راه های دسترسی به قابلیت های بالقوه است.
اگر فرصتی برای حفظ سکوت فراهم نیاورید در حقیقت فرصت گفتگوی درونی را از دست داده اید.
از طریق سکوت به قدرت لایزال و اسرار خلقت پی خواهیم برد.
سکوت به معنای پناه بردن به همبستگی بی کران می باشد.
در اوج جنبش حرکت سعی نمایید آرامش خود را نیز به همراه داشته باشید. در این صورت بی نظمی های موجود در اطرافتان هرگز اجازه نخواهن یافت منبع خلاقیت شما یعنی قابلیت ها و توانایی های بالقوه تان را تحت تأثیر قرار دهند.
از طریق سکوت به اولین دستورالعمل شفا بخش معنوی یعنی قانون قابلیت های بالقوه دست می یابیم.
تلفیق دلپذی و استادانه آرامش سکون و آزادی و وسعت فکر و اندیشه و پویایی و حرکت می تواند شما را به خواسته هایتان برساند.
جمع اضداد - یعنی تقارن سکون و حرکت - شما را از اتکاء به شرایط بی نیاز خواهد نمود.
سکون به تنهایی عامل خلاقیت بالقوه است.
تلفیق حرکت و سکون هر فرد او را قادر خواهد ساخت خلاقیت خود را در زمینه های مختلف بیازماید - هر زمینه ای که توجه شما را به خود جلب کرده است.

دیپاک چوپرا در سال 1947 در هندوستان و در خانوادهای پزشک به دنیا آمد. پدر مروج پزشکی مدرن غربی بود در حالیکه پدربزرگش او را با پزشکی تجربی هند یعنی ”آیورودا“ آشنا ساخت.
وی پس از آنکه در پزشکی فارغالتحصیل شد جهت ادامه تحصیل به آمریکا رفت و همانجا ماندگار شد. او در زمان تحصیل در هند مرتاضی را مشاهده کرد که پس از 6 روز دفن شدن در خاک، زنده مانده بود. این تجربه برای دیپاک تلنگری بود تا به مسائل غیرمادی بسیار عمیق و جدیتر بیندیشد، اما دگرگونی اساسی در شیوه زندگی و نوع نگرش دیپاک چوپرا به فلسفه پزشکی، زمانی رخ داد که ده سال بعد، به هند بازگشت و با یکی از اطباء مطرح آیورودا (Ayurveda) ملاقات کرد.
کافی بود این پ��شک سه انگشت خود را روی مچ دست یک شخص بگذارد تا از تاریخچه بیماری او در گذشته، حال و آینده مطلع شود. طی اولین ملاقات، او مچ دست چوپرا را گرفت و تشخیص داد که بسیاری از افکار چوپرا غیرضروری و بیهوده است! همچنین به او توصیه کرد که اوقات بیشتری را در کنار خانوادهاش بگذراند و با آرامش و حوصله غذا بخورد.
دیپاک چوپرا بلافاصله به این توصیه عمل نکرد. وی طبق عادتش زیاد قهوه مینوشید و روزی یک پاکت سیگار میکشید. تعصب او علیه عرفان و تصوف سرزمین مادریاش سبب شده بود به کلیدی که میتوانست راهگشای درمان اضطرابش باشد، دست نیابد.
اما دیری نپائید که با مطالعه پژوهشهای افراد متعدد در مورد مدیتیشن (یکی از روشهای مراقبه) که حاکی از تأثیر قابل ملاحظه آن در کاهش اضطراب بود به شدت تحت تأثیر قرار گرفت و پذیرای مدیتیشن شد. مدیتیشن فرآیندی بدون سعی و کوشش بود که به آرامش عمیقتر او کمک میکرد. نتیجه این بود که چوپرا در عرض دو هفته سیگار را ترک کرد و به دعوت استادش به مطالعه و تفحش در آیورودا پرداخت.
همان سال چوپرا به ریاست انجمن آمریکائی طب آیورودا رسید و بعدها نیز به ریاست مرکز پزشکی و سلامتی آیورودای ماهاریشی که در آنجا به کنترل و مدیریت استرس پرداخته میشود، منصوب شد.
اوایل دهه نود میلادی، دیپاک چوپرا مدافع تمام عیار مدیتیشن بود و در کتاب ”شفای کوانتومی“ نوشت: ”بدن شبکهای هوشیار است که میتواند با مدیتیشن برنامهریزی شود و زندگی پاک، سالم و مصون از بیماریها و پیری را نوید دهد.“
دیپاک چوپرا با بیانی جسورانه از نامیرائی و جاودانگی بدن انسان سخن میگوید و بدین ترتیب توجه بسیاری از مردم غرب را که به نگاه زمینی خو کردهاند، بهخود جلب میکند. برجستگی کار چوپرا در پیوند زدن میان عرفان و حکمت رازگونه شرق با منطق فرمولی علوم غرب است. او حقیقت حکمت عارفانه و شاعرانه شرق (بهویژه هند) را به زبانی که برای مردم عقلگرای غربی قابل فهم باشد، ترجمه میکند.
اما با وجود استقبال گسترده? مردم از اندیشهها و توصیههای او، اعضاء انجمن پزشکی آمریکا بهراحتی پذیرای نظرات چوپرا نیستند. وی خود، دلیل آن را تجربی بودن توصیههای پزشکیاش میداند که برای پزشکی نوین در آزمایشگاهها اثبات شده نیست و از اینرو مرکز پزشکی چوپرا تحت پوشش اغلب بیمههای درمانی قرار ندارد!
اطباء آیورودا معتقدند که این طب، دانش زندگی است. دستورات این علم پزشکی که از پشتوانه چند هزار سال تجربه برخوردار است، براساس تکنیکهای مدیتیشن، رژیم غذائی متعادل، یوگا و تمریناتی برای کاهش استرس و افزایش سلامتی پایهریزی شده است. در واقع در این طب سنتی، از سیستمهای بدن و توانمندیهای طبیعی بدن برای شفا و سلامتی کمک گرفته میشود. بهعنوان مثال یکی از روشهای درمان در این طب، فشار درمانی است. کف دستها و کف پاها به نقاط مختلفی تقسیم میشود که هر نقطه مربوط به حوزه? انرژی یکی از اندامهاست. فشار بر این نقاط به روشهای متفاوت به تشخیص، درمان و آرام کردم درد در اندام مربوطه میانجامد.

Told in a tale of whimsical conversation, between the iconic characters "Merlin" and King Arthur", this read is one that could be soldiered through in a day. It simply would not do the information justice to read it that way however. It's lessons from the great wizard Merlin that need time to digest, as the truth is that Deepak chopra, brilliantly uses the tale to deliver truths of manifestation, and how to unlearn some of man's more silly patterns of thought. You'll leave this read with the perspective of the wizard himself in your heart, not just your mind, and that is a gift of knowledge that I believe will keep on giving!

I expected a crappy new age green (integral) book, and I was wrong.
Instead I found Chopra speaking in amazing depth sharing timeless spiritual wisdom.
Perhaps I'm just ready for this kind of stuff now, or more capable of looking past the worldview and receiving the state-transmission, but I would recommend this book to anyone. It's simple, easy to read, and has a deep transmission.

Si estás en el camino de la búsqueda interior y la manifestación este libro es para ti, si no, te parecerá una fumada. La forma de explicar del autor a través de una historia es muy atinada porque todo se maneja en lecciones de un personaje a otro. De esta manera se comprende mejor de qué trata la ley de la asunción. Lectura para todas las edades.

I am typically impressed by Deepak Chopra’s illuminating view of the world, and his insights are always compelling to me. This book was no different - it ties together his different lessons and messages in a fluid and engaging way, without being confusing or overwhelming whatsoever. In this - I was a little put off by the Merlin storyline at first, and quickly found that it was a brilliant way to set up and illustrate the 20 lessons that are shared. So worth the read. I loved it.

Para reclutar la ayuda del mago, debemos ser fuertes
en la verdad, no obstinados en nuestros juicios.
Decima segunda lección
La sabiduría vive y, por lo tanto, siempre
es imprevisible.
El orden es otra cara del caos, el caos es otra cara
del orden.
La incertidumbre interior es la puerta hacia
la sabiduría.
El aventurero siempre irá acompañado
de la inseguridad, pero aunque tropieza, nunca cae.
El orden humano está hecho de reglas. El orden
del mago no tiene reglas, fluye con la naturaleza

La realidad que experimentamos es el reflejo de nuestras expectativas.
Si proyectamos las mismas imágenes todos los días,

Los magos no sufren ante una pérdida porque

En la medida en que conocemos el amor

El amor es más que una emoción. Es una fuerza de la naturaleza y, por lo tanto, debe contener
la verdad.
Al pronunciar la palabra “amor” quizás captamos la sensación, pero su esencia no se puede expresar
con palabras.
El amor más puro se encuentra donde menos
lo esperamos: en el desapego.
Décima sexta lección
Más allá de la vigilia, el sueño y la ensoñación, hay un número infinito de planos de conciencia.
El mago existe simultáneamente
en todas las épocas.
El mago ve versiones infinitas de cada suceso.
Las líneas rectas del tiempo en realidad son los hilos de una red que se extiende hasta el infinito.

Quienes buscan jamás se extravían porque el espíritu

existe para develar otra capa del alma.
El espíritu desea encontramos. Para aceptar
su invitación, debemos estar des protegidos.
Al buscar comencemos por el corazón.
El corazón es el hogar de la verdad.
Décima octava lección
Podemos vivir la inmortalidad en medio
de la mortalidad.
El tiempo y la eternidad no son opuestos.
Como la eternidad lo abarca todo, no tiene
contrario.
A nivel del ego, luchamos por resolver nuestros
problemas. Para el espíritu, esa lucha
es el problema.
El mago es consciente de la batalla entre el ego
y el espíritu, pero sabe que los dos son inmortales
y no pueden morir.
Todos los aspectos de nuestro yo son inmortales,
hasta las partes a las cual es juzgamos más
duramente.
Décima novena lección
Los magos jamás condenan el deseo. Fue siguiendo
sus deseos como se convirtieron en magos.
Todo deseo nace de un deseo anterior La cadena
del deseo jamás termina. Es la vida misma.
No consideres inútil o equivocado ninguno de tus deseos
— algún día todos se cumplirán.
Los deseos son semillas a la espera de la estación
propicia para germinar De una sola semilla
de deseo nacen bosques completos.
Aprecia cada uno de los deseos de tu corazón,
por trivial que parezca. Un día, esos deseos triviales
te conducirán hasta Dios.

El mayor bien que puedes hacerle al mundo
es convertirte en mago.

Novena lección
El mago vive en estado de conocimiento.
Este conocimiento dirige su propia satisfacción.
El campo de la conciencia se organiza alrededor
de nuestras intenciones.
El conocimiento y la intención son fuerzas. Aquello
que tenemos intención de hacer modifica el campo
a nuestro favor
Las intenciones comprimidas en palabras encierran
un poder mágico.
El mago no trata de resolver el misterio de la vida.
Está aquí para vivirla.
Décima lección
Todos tenemos un yo-sombra que es parte
de nuestra realidad total.
El yo-sombra no esta aquí para lastimamos
sino para señalar nuestros vacíos.
Cuando acogemos a la sombra, ésta sana.
Cuando sana, se convierte en amor
Cuando aprendamos a vivir con todas nuestras
cualidad es opuestas, viviremos nuestro yo total,
al igual que el mago.
Décima primera lección
El mago es el maestro de la alquimia. La alquimia
es transformación.
La búsqueda de la perfección se inicia a través
de la alquimia.
Somos el mundo. Cuando nos transformemos,
el mundo en el cual vivimos también se transformará.
Las metas de la búsqueda — heroísmo, esperanza,
gracia y amor — son el legado de lo eterno.
Para reclutar la ayuda del mago, debemos ser fuertes
en la verdad, no obstinados en nuestros juicios.
Decima segunda lección
La sabiduría vive y, por lo tanto, siempre
es imprevisible.
El orden es otra cara del caos, el caos es otra cara
del orden.
La incertidumbre interior es la puerta hacia
la sabiduría.
El aventurero siempre irá acompañado
de la inseguridad, pero aunque tropieza, nunca cae.
El orden humano está hecho de reglas. El orden
del mago no tiene reglas, fluye con la naturaleza
de la vida.
Décima tercera lección
La realidad que experimentamos es el reflejo de nuestras expectativas.
Si proyectamos las mismas imágenes todos los días,
nuestra realidad será idéntica día tras día.
Cuando la atención es perfecta, crea orden y claridad a partir del caos y la confusión.
Décima cuarta lección
Los magos no sufren ante una pérdida porque
sólo lo irreal puede perderse.
Aunque perdamos todo, lo real seguirá existiendo.
En medio de los escombros de la devastación
y el desastre, hay tesoros ocultos.
Cuando busques entre las cenizas, mira bien.
Décima quinta lección
En la medida en que conocemos el amor
nos convertimos en amor
El amor es más que una emoción. Es una fuerza de la naturaleza y, por lo tanto, debe contener
la verdad.
Al pronunciar la palabra “amor” quizás captamos la sensación, pero su esencia no se puede expresar
con palabras.
El amor más puro se encuentra donde menos
lo esperamos: en el desapego.
Décima sexta lección
Más allá de la vigilia, el sueño y la ensoñación, hay un número infinito de planos de conciencia.
El mago existe simultáneamente
en todas las épocas.
El mago ve versiones infinitas de cada suceso.
Las líneas rectas del tiempo en realidad son los hilos de una red que se extiende hasta el infinito.
Décima séptima lección
Quienes buscan jamás se extravían porque el espíritu
los llama constantemente.
Quienes buscan recibe pistas de mundo espiritual
permanentemente. Las personas corrientes
dan a estas pistas el nombre de coincidencias.
Para el mago las coincidencias no existen. Cada suceso
existe para develar otra capa del alma.
El espíritu desea encontramos. Para aceptar
su invitación, debemos estar des protegidos.
Al buscar comencemos por el corazón.
El corazón es el hogar de la verdad.
Décima octava lección
Podemos vivir la inmortalidad en medio
de la mortalidad.
El tiempo y la eternidad no son opuestos.
Como la eternidad lo abarca todo, no tiene
contrario.
A nivel del ego, luchamos por resolver nuestros
problemas. Para el espíritu, esa lucha
es el problema.
El mago es consciente de la batalla entre el ego
y el espíritu, pero sabe que los dos son inmortales
y no pueden morir.
Todos los aspectos de nuestro yo son inmortales,
hasta las partes a las cual es juzgamos más
duramente.
Décima novena lección
Los magos jamás condenan el deseo. Fue siguiendo
sus deseos como se convirtieron en magos.
Todo deseo nace de un deseo anterior La cadena
del deseo jamás termina. Es la vida misma.
No consideres inútil o equivocado ninguno de tus deseos
— algún día todos se cumplirán.
Los deseos son semillas a la espera de la estación
propicia para germinar De una sola semilla
de deseo nacen bosques completos.
Aprecia cada uno de los deseos de tu corazón,
por trivial que parezca. Un día, esos deseos triviales
te conducirán hasta Dios.

This is a book that enfolds Hindu wisdom within the tale of King Arthur and Merlyn the wizard. Rather than directly instruct the reader, the lessons are told through stories about Merlyn's tutoring of the young Arthur. Each lesson has a story, an explanation of the lesson and an explanation of what it means to apply the lesson to your life. It's a clever way of introducing these spiritual concepts to someone raised in Western culture, especially if, like me, a person is enthralled with the King Arthur stories. Even if you are not on a spiritual quest, there are life lessons to be gleaned from reading this book.

This book comes from a very unusual direction combining the author's Hindu traditions and his fantastical view of the Arthurian legend. Beautiful wisdom is presented in an enticing manner however, periodically I found myself thinking/pondering the question of would a medieval Merlin even think along these lines? And then I would get caught up again in the beauty of the writing. Short and easy to read but its lessons will stick with you for a very long time.

I couldn't put the book down, and yet most of the time the book was in my hand- I wasn't reading it, I was merely soaking in the reality of what I had just read! This book is right up there with seven spiritual laws as my favorite!

I've read this book over and over again and even indexed it. I avoided Chopra's books for a long time thinking he was too main stream . He may be but his writing is superb and very very insightful.

This book does a great job of integrating teachings from not only Merlin but that are found across ancient traditions. It's an easy, lovely and powerful read.

This was an interesting book but, I kept thinking about the first time I watched Camelot as a child. The Way of the Wizard is divided into three sections. The first introduces the book and its ideas. The second contains twenty lessons and has an interesting format. The lessons are listed at the start of the chapter in italicized text. Next, a shared experience between Arthur and Merlin demonstrates the lessons. Chopra explains these lessons further in sections named “understanding the lesson” and “living the lesson.” The third part is entitled “the seven steps of alchemy” and identifies and explains how one should strive to live “the way of the wizard.” These seven steps, almost a recap of the second section include: innocence, birth of ego, birth of the achiever, birth of the giver, birth of the seeker, birth of the seer, and spirit.
Overall, this book shares the same ideas as others like it. The format is different and I had read this book before, but I wanted to read it one more time before giving it away. I am thankful I have fond memories of watching Camelot because they helped me to visualize and better understand the lessons in the second part. My main take-always are based on the belief that the universe is all inter-related. What we do does impact others. Our mind is our most powerful resource. We can visualize, and almost in a sense, will events to take place. Remembering we are part of a whole should encourage us to reflect and strive to be our best self. In short, a lot of what happens to any one person is largely based on her own perceptions of that event and life is, as we often hear, what we make of it.
I did enjoy this book, but I was ready to be done. I felt like I have read these ideas before and now it is time to share this book with someone else.
