Whisperings of the Spirit

Rate this book
The Holy Ghost is always whispering to us. Through the Spirit we receive guidance that can be acquired in no other way. But are we listening? Communicating with the Holy Ghost is a process, not an event. Whisperings of the Spirit offers inspiration and guidance for seeking, recognizing, and acting on the promptings of the Holy Ghost. The author identifies some of the things that stand in the way of fully realizing our relationship with the Holy Ghost and provides specific suggestions to help us remember the whisperings of the Spirit.

Whisperings of the Spirit by Nancy Murphy was for me a great follow-up book to Hearing the Voice of the Lord by Gerald N. Lund. Both are excellent tools for teaching us how to bring the Spirit more into our lives. Whisperings of the Spirit emphasized the need for writing down the feelings and promptings we receive. That will enable us to remember specific experiences more clearly and also leave a spiritual legacy for those who come after us to read and be strengthened by. I can see a greater purpose in keeping a journal, especially if that journal focuses on the spiritual aspects of our lives. The trick for me is transforming my newfound knowledge and desires into writing rather than just happy thoughts and good intentions. To quote my stake president, "If nothing really changes after we have been touched by the Spirit, we haven't really learned anything."

Excellent, excellent book. My sister told me about this book but stated that I totally had to do the assignments at the end of each chapter. As I started reading the book, it really is a quick read. I can't say that I did any of the assignments, but can see how they can be a great help in realizing the whisperings of the Spirit and how frequently the Lord truly speaks to us.

I was about 3/4 of the way through the book and realized that this would actually be a good book to have in my library. Now that I own the book, I plan on rereading the book and purchasing a journal beforehand so that I can leave a legacy for my own children to know how the Spirit has and is a part of my life.

Easy read with some great wisdom!

This book was very helpful, informative and uplifting. Each chapter is about a different skill you can develop in relation to the Holy Ghost. It is easy to read and full of good quotes and useful scriptures. At the end of each chapter is an assignment you can do on your own to develop the skill talked about. It took me longer to read this book than normal because I wanted to really do each activity. There are lots of stories, examples and practical advice in each chapter to help you improve your relationship with the Holy Ghost and improve your listening ear. The book is not too long but it is full of good things. I enjoyed reading it and felt like it helped me a lot.

This is a must read! I've taken a long time to actually finish this book but I love it! I keep reading a little bit at a time in between all my other reads. But this year I did implement writing down weekly my own "whisperings of the spirit" and began to notice that I was more grateful, more in tune, more attentive and likely to act upon the 'whisperings' that I receive. When we act upon those things, we are likely to receive them more frequently, and I am am to share the truthfulness of that in my life.

I guess I am not in the right place to be reading this book right now. I felt like I was zoning out most of this book. I would be reading and thinking to myself "this is just what I need to hear" and then my mind would be off to something completely different and suddenly I would find myself pages and pages from where I was and don't recall anything I had read. It was frustrating and boring for me. I am disappointed in myself for being so easily distracted from something so important to me. I am not in the best place with this right now.

Great book. I read it over a long period of time, which is sort of how it's set up. It can be used more like a workbook than something to just read through. Each chapter has an 'assignment' to help you develop that part of understanding the way the spirit speaks. Each time I went back to it, there seemed to be things that I needed to hear then.

I borrowed it from a friend, but think I might need to get my own copy, as I'm sure it's the sort of thing that would be useful to go back to over and again in different times of my life.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Whisperings of the Spirit. It is a very inspiring book. She explains so beautifully every aspect of the Holy Ghost and why we need him and how we can learn to hear him. I loved her suggestion of getting a journal and writing down the many ways that the Holy Ghost speaks to us. Her book definitely motivates the reader to draw closer to the Spirit by learning to recognize his still small voice and then to act on his guidance for our lives.

I liked this book. It was a little simplistic, but overall had enough good points to make it worth reading. There were a lot of things to think about. I didn't agree with everything she said, but a lot of it I really did like. I'd like to put it on my shelves for my kids to read as they hit the youth age. I think it'd be really good at that stage--just maybe not as much anymore now that I'm older.

A very excellent book on the Holy Ghost and how we can "hear" him more efficiently. She takes you through some steps to begin a "scripture journal," a journal you keep about the times the Spirit has spoken to you. I hope to keep up with the journal and really try to hear the Holy Ghost more in my life.

I'm not much of a self-help reader, but this one was a quick and good read. At the end of each chapter are suggestions/ "to do" items that gave great ideas to become better at recognizing the Spirit in your everyday life. It was definitely worth the read.

This was a life-changing book for me. Be sure to do the exercises and keep a journal as you read to record your own experiences.

This is a good book, not a great book. But this book verified some of my own findings, that the Holy Ghost is speaking to us more often than we realize we just have to learn to hear it.

I stopped reading this and put it back up on the bookshelf because it started to repeat itself. Good stuff but the same stuff over and over again.

This book really helps you understand how the Holy Ghost communicates with you. Sometimes it is so obvious, but sometimes it is just a feeling. I truly felt the spirit as I read every page.

Wonderful book about the Holy Ghost and how to receive personal revelations. Some of the ideas in this book are very timely for things that are happening in my extended family right now.
