Rainbow Magic features differing groups of fairies as main characters, including the Jewel fairies, Weather fairies, Pet fairies, Petal fairies, and Sporty fairies.
Narinder Dhami was born in Wolverhampton, England on November 15, 1958. She received a degree in English from Birmingham University in 1980. After having taught in primary and secondary schools for several years she began to write full-time. Dhami has published many retellings of popular Disney stories and wrote the Animal Stars and Babes series, the latter about young British girls of Asian origin. She lives in Cambridge, England with her husband and cats.
Sue Bentley was born in Northampton, England. She worked in a library after completing her education and began writing for children once her own began school. Bentley is the author of the Magic Kitten, Magic Puppy, and S Club series and lives in Northamptonshire.
Linda Chapman has written over 50 children's fiction books, including the following series: My Secret Unicorn, Stardust, Not Quite a Mermaid, and Unicorn School. She lives in Leicestershire with her husband and daughters.
Sue Mongredien was born in 1970 and grew up in Nottingham, England. She has published over 100 children's books, including the following series: The Adventures of Captain Pugwash, The Magic Key, Frightful Families, and Oliver Moon. She has also contributed many titles to the Sleepover Club series and written picture books. Mongredien created the Royal Ballet School Diaries under the pen name Alexandra Moss. She lives with her family in Bath, England.

The Jewel fairies are : India the Moonstone Fairy, Scarlett the Garnet Fairy, Emily the Emerald Fairy, Chloe the Topaz Fairy, Amy the Amethyst Fairy, Sophie the Sapphire Fairy and Lucy the Diamond Fairy.Their gems control different types of magic like good dreams, changing, appearing (and disappearing) etc.
We love looking at the maps at the beginnings of the books. A different location for this series as Kirsty goes to stay with Rachel this time. Miss 4 liked the adventure playground best.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

My daughter really enjoys these fairy books. They hold her attention and she feels like Rachel and Kirstie are good friends of hers. As a parent thought after having read the rainbow magic series and one other it's really repetitive story lines.

This series would interest girls who are ready to take on reading that extends beyond picture books. The stories center around 2 friends who help the jewel fairies overcome problems caused by Jack Frost and his mean goblins. The stories follow a predictable sequence of events, making them appropriate for students ready to take on chapter books.

The book I read to my niece had all 7 stories and was wonderful for ages under 6! The plot and storyline itself isn't designed for kids much older than 6 but the stories are great for younger kids! These stories teach valuable morals and lessons and are enchanting to read!
