can I have a Gabe of my very own?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I'll be a good girl, yes I will! Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I'll even jump off a cliff so he can rescue me! See? I've got it all planned out! Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I'll even get some deranged badass villain to try to kill me a few times just so I could end up in Gabe's apartment, with him looking over me Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Whatever it takes, he's.. just... THAT... good Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

You know, sometimes a badass heroine is great. She can kick the bad guys' asses herself, doesn't need constant rescuing by the hero and all that stuff.
BUT.
Sometimes I just love to read about a normal girl, and the hero actually having a chance to be one, rescuing and comforting and taking care of her and being the shoulder to cry on and all. It gets me all swoony Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

In this book, we get the vulnerable girl, and the bravest and selfless of heroes, just the perfect combination <3

The story

Right at the beginning of the book, Kat falls off a cliff, and Gabe is the one who saves her. Well. That was enough to make me swoony. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Three months later they meet again, not in the best of circumstances :S
The police interrupts a religious ceremony "inipi" and Gabe, as a ranger, comes at the scene, only to see the woman he rescued, and haven't forgotten since then Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

After that incident, Kat discovers that someone wants to disrupt the Native Americans who live there, and to basically forbid them their own religious ceremonies.
Along with Gabe, she tries to discover who is behind it all, only to be the target of a killer who won't stop at anything to prevent them from finding out his big secret Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Instead of wanting to scrape Kat off his skin and leave her, he'd wanted to hold her, to kiss her until she fell asleep, to feel the warmth of her skin against his. Somehow she filled the emptiness inside him, made him feel whole again.

Kat

Kat is a Navajo, the traditions of her people deeply embedded in her by the teachings of her grandmother, still a virgin because of a deep hurt made by her mother and her family, that made her decide she would give herself only to a man who's willing to commit and have a family and all that goes with it.
Gabe couldn't be further from that type of man Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Although she makes that clear to him, they still have the incredible sexual tension going on, and it becomes harder to resist him, especially after he saves her life a few times, takes care of her, comforts, reassures her... Oh just swoon big time. I totally understand why she couldn't keep her hands off him Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

He drew her into his arms, and held her, just held her, his face pressed against her silky hair, the honey scent and soft feel of her a balm for all the rough edges inside him.
"I'm scared, Gabe." She pressed her cheek against his bare chest.
"I know." He held her tighter. "You're safe here."
"I had to see you. I had to know you were okay."
"I'm glad you came." He drew back, tucked a finger beneath her chin, tilted her face upward--and then he kissed her.

Gabe

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I think I'm a bit in love with him. A big bit Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

He doesn't want a relationship. Of any kind. The only thing that works for him is casual sex, so he understands he can't try anything with Kat, she wants the one thing he can't give her. But she's oh so tempting, especially because he wasn't able to forget her ever since he saved her life, and kept her earring with him (OMG major swoon here, I think I already adored him at this point Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
)
He works with her on the case, trying to unveil the murderer, and with that, repeatedly saves Kat's life Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She awakens all of his protective instincts, and he wants nothing else but to keep her safe... and with him <3

"What you did proved to me that you care more about me than you care about sex. A man who only cares about sex stops only if a woman asks him to stop. Thank you for caring about me, Gabe Rossiter."

This is just the perfect quote for him! He thinks less of himself than he truly is, and Kat helps him see himself as what he is, a man worthy of her and her love Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Gabe is the perfect example of a selfless hero, what he did to save her, first in the appartment, then in the mountains... My heart just cried hor him. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I'm not really a big fan of journalism in the story, and it kinda got on my nerves here, just as it did in the first book, but luckily, Gabe and Kat had such a wonderful romance and all the action and angst later just made up for it a million times over Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

My only regret:

Why am I not a fictional character named Kat?!?!?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

"Walk in beauty, Gabriel Rossiter."

Photobucket

"The wind knows you. You're a man of this land, of the earth."

The cynic and bitter Gabe Rossiter, a park Ranger in Boulder, does not believe in love and HEA anymore. Love, romance, and sex--it's nothing more than chemistry, and he prefers casual sex without any commitment. For the past three years Gabe risked his life for nothing. Three years wasted on crazy climbing--he did climb routes no one else would dare to touch--and meaningless sex while trying so hard to numb and forget his pain and anger. He is always looking for the next shot of adrenaline until he meets Kat, that is.

"Maybe I was trying to understand why a man with so much heart acts like he no longer has one."

Gabe, the adrenaline junkie and rock semigod. Rock climbing, alpine climbing, ice climbing, skiing, mountain biking…you name it.

Gabe prefers skiing…

Gabe meets Kat for the first time during a rescue when a rock slide almost takes her life. A couple of months later their paths crossed again when Boulder police raided an inipi--a sweat lodge ceremony--that a group of Indian people were holding on Mesa Butte just east of Boulder. Native people have been using the site, which is considered sacred, for hundreds of years. But the city has suddenly decided to enforce land-use-codes. Kat who is a journalist starts to investigate the possible violation of Native American rights (American Indian Religious Freedom Act) and therefore finds herself turning to Gabe Rossiter for help.

Kat.

"I've never been with a man, and I won't be until I find the one who wants to be a part of my life and isn't just looking for a one-night stand. So unless you want lots of children, love mutton stew, and enjoy spending your summer vacations in one-hundred-fourteen-degree heat in a two-room hogaan without electricity or running water, we shouldn't even start down that road."

Photobucket

Kat is Kimimila (butterfly)

Photobucket

Pamela's sensitivity to the Native American issues in this story made me enjoy Naked Edge so much more. I think she did a fine and respectful job at portraying a culture that I have adored for a long time by now. Also, the climbing aspects felt real and authentic. She really takes her time to research her stories properly. Kudos, Pamela.

Kat's dream catcher.

Photobucket

I loved this story. And I loved Gabe. What a wonderful and altruistic hero this guy is. I get it that the reader may have some doubts about his being selfless in the beginning of the story, however, as the plot develops it becomes very clear that Gabe cares deeply about Kat. Even though he thought that he could give her no love, no emotions, ultimately he fell very hard for Kat. Oh, what

"You're not broken, Gabe Rossiter. You're just afraid to let yourself feel because feeling hurts so much. But feeling is part of living. You can't escape it. If you try, you'll hurt yourself worse than ever could."

The announcement of harm…the infamous coyote.

Photobucket

The chemistry between Gabe and Kat is utterly palpable and well-written. Their relationship evolved slowly yet steadily and first and foremost it was believable. Also, I really enjoyed their dialogue. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of inner monologue, but what Gabe had to say to himself and to his d@ck made me laugh time and again. It was very entertaining. I have a minor complaint. I'm aware that Kat had every reason to weep as much as she did, but it was kinda hard to swallow and I’m not a reader who appreciates excessive crying. Well, in the end I just had to cut her some slack, though, because she had to deal with a couple of bad “events” in a short time span. Hence, no hard feelings!

Plenty of snow in the Colorado Mountains. My favorite part of the story. *Le sigh*.

Photobucket

Some intense and beautiful lovemaking.

Photobucket

"Intense. Sexual. Pleasure."
Pamela knows how to write a great story but she also knows how to write passionate, intense yet very tasteful love scenes. With a mighty fine hand she pushed Kat (and the reader) into sexual oblivion. Kat found herself on the edge of mind-blowing, sexual pleasure. Whew. I want to be a virgin again.

Hasteen nizhoni. Her beautiful man.

All those aspects about sex and virginity were explained very well. I quote:

Tradition Navajo culture held that sex was for making babies and that masturbation was evil, beliefs reinforced by Navajo creation stories. From what Gabe had read, solo sex was a forbidden topic, something people simply didn't discuss, lumped in with sodomy, homosexuality, pedophilia, and rape. Exposing one's genitals, even to one's husband or wife, was still considered shameful by some, sex something to be done at night in the dark in silence. And until recently, oral sex had been illegal on the rez. Taken together, he could see why Kat was still a virgin.

Dramatic and very painful ending.
This is one of the most dramatic scenes that I've ever read in a romantic suspense novel. Incredibly thrilling and well-written! My heart was in my throat and I could feel the goosebumps. Without a shadow of a doubt Gabe loved Kat deeply otherwise he wouldn't have done that for her.

"I love you, Katherine James. I love you with everything I am. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. Remember that.

"You already have."

Photobucket

Don't be afraid, though, of course there is a HEA.

Photobucket

More happy stuff…

Oh, yeah, Gabe…this is for you...

Photobucket

"The gods of powder really do love you the most."

Buddy read with Blacky and Lorraine. Thank you, ladies! I enjoyed my re-read very much. :)

Ahéhee', Pamela Clare, for writing another wonderful and captivating story that features a fabulous and unforgettable hero. The rose is for you.

Though I liked this one I didn't like it as much as some of the others. It was a bit slower for one and for two the hero and my son share a name. So hearing the audible narrator guy moan my son's was just odd. I just had a hard time staying connected to the story. I will say that if the hero was named Tom or Bob or Mike or something I would have liked it a whole lot more.

4.5 stars!

description

When it comes to series, most books I read have lost their appeal with each consecutive book but that’s not the case with the I-Team series. Each book is more enjoyable than the last and even with the same cast of characters and reader expectation of nail-biting suspense along with heartfelt romance, no two books in this series reads the same. They’re all so well-researched and it’s easy to tell the author has taken the time to hone her storytelling abilities so she consistently delivers on both the suspense and romance in each and every one of her stories. With Naked Edge the author’s given longtime fans and new readers another winner in the form of a beautifully tormented yet endearing hero, a gentle and kind-hearted heroine, and their wild, rocky story that ensues.

If you’ve read any other books in this series, you’ll probably have an idea how the author likes to write her suspense: fast-paced, action-packed that promises to have your heart beating 200 per minute. What sets this book apart from the others is that the suspense and mystery parts of the story are a little tamer, more subtle rather than blatantly there. And in turn, the romance has a bigger focus. I would even say that I think this book is the most romantic out of the series. While I personally love to have more suspense than romance in RS reads, this combination worked out just fine for me here. There’s no insta-love and the author really takes the time to develop Kat and Gabe’s relationship in conjunction with the suspense. I’ll admit that the entire mystery surrounding sacred artifact looters on Navajo land I figured out before it was revealed, but the buildup to that point was stunning (if you’ve read the climatic ending scene you’ll know what I mean) so I didn’t mind the mystery was predictable.

The romance in this book was just beautiful. As mentioned before, the author dedicates a lot of book space to develop the romance, not just throw in ‘I-love-yous’ because the hero and heroine escaped death. Despite his initial standoffish attitude, Gabe is the perfect kind of hero: a little damaged but a whole lot of honorable. Kat was the perfect heroine to match him. Compared to the other heroines in this series, she’s got a calm and quiet presence, and her gentle strength is what draws Gabe to her. The fact that she’s Navajo was also something I loved as not many books I read have ethnically diverse characters, and the author incorporates Navajo culture and customs in the story, making it feel so much more authentic.

Out of all the books in this series, this is the one I’ve re-read the most. It’s not because it’s my favorite, but because of the dramatic, somewhat bittersweet ending that gets to me every time! Earlier I mentioned how the suspense was predictable but the buildup to the end was what made this book shine. This is what I’m talking about here: the buildup to the unforgettable ending is what keeps bringing me back to this book. To avoid spoilers I won’t be detailing what happens, so all I’m going to say is that despite all his claims that he’s an asshole and not worth anything, Gabe is the ultimate hero in my eyes.

I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve re-read this book. The fact that each time I re-read it and it still remains a winner amazes me. However, when I re-read it this time I did notice one thing that annoyed me: Kat cried too much. I eventually overlooked it because she did go through a lot in a short amount of time, but I’m not a fan of weepers and just like the way I lost count the number of times I’ve read this book, I also lost count the number of times she burst into tears. Other than that, this book was a big winner for me! The lush backdrop of the snowy Colorado mountains combined with the steamy, believable romance all the way to the dramatic, heartstopping ending makes it one of my top favorites. I highly recommend it, regardless if you’re a fan of this series or if you’re just looking for a few hours of escapism :)

Naked Edge is the 4th book in the I-team series and can be read as a standalone.

Another 5+ Star read from Pamela Clare!

There are just some authors who know their stuff, and Pamela Clare is one of them. Honestly, her stories never cease to amaze me! They are action packed and believable, addressing topics close to home that we only hear or read little bits about in the news. Regardless of the subject matter, I love how she imparts information, giving us more insight into what the characters are dealing with while keeping us fully engrossed in the story and invested in them as people. And how she always does this without bogging the story down in lectur-esque details is beyond me, but one thing all of her stories have in common is that much of what she writes about she’s experienced firsthand. There’s no guessing, no filling in details and hoping she got it right – her books comes straight from the pages of her life, and you can feel it in the characters, in their words and actions, in the way they live their lives – because Ms. Clare has lived it also.

And, Sweet Mary! Does this woman know how to write alpha males! They are the perfect combination of rugged, honorable, sexy, determined, intelligent, sexy, and devoted to their causes and to those they love. And wow, have I mentioned sexy?!? The heroines are people you can relate to, believe in and even though I’d rather have the heroes – any one of them – for myself, I’m wanting to see the females get their happily ever after so badly, that I’m willing to share! Yes, yes… so very selfless of me, but that’s just the kind of person I am.

So let’s talk about Naked Edge:

Katherine James is a Navajo environmental journalist on the I-Team, the Denver Independent newspapers's elite group of investigative reporters. Her background in Native American traditions, beliefs and ways of life give her a unique perspective when covering stories relating to the people. Kat has a very deep love and respect for the earth, and enjoys spending time at Mesa Butte with her friends, but one afternoon while sitting and enjoying the scenery alone, she hears a loud crack and feels the ground give way beneath her. Unable to find anything to grab hold of, she finds herself at the mercy of a rockslide. As darkness envelopes her, Kat’s last thoughts are, ’ I don’t want to die today.’ Lucky for her, it wasn’t her time to go.

Gabe Rossiter, Boulder Mountain Park Ranger, was enjoying his day off, getting in some rock climbing, when he hears a woman scream, glances over in time to see rocks sliding down the side of a slope and caught sight of the woman falling with them. Moving quickly, he made his way to where he knew the rocks would have come to a standstill and looked for the woman he was positive he had seen. Finding only her backpack, he was certain she was dead, having been buried under the debris. Only when he hears her cry out in pain does he realize that she’s managed to crawl away from the rockslide, despite her broken leg, and was making her way toward the trail in search of help. Doing what he could to stabilize her and calm her down, Gabe calls in their position and a rescue team gets there in no time, whisking Kat away from the accident and the man who saved her life.

A few months later, Gabe and Kat are brought together again in another unfortunate event when a sacred religious ceremony Kat is attending is violently disrupted by law enforcement personnel. Gabe arrives just in time to see Kat being dragged by the hair from the sweat lodge where the inipi ceremony was taking place, by an overzealous, with an exaggerated view of his own self importance – who, having no jurisdiction, shouldn’t have been there in the first place. One thing leads to another, reports are filed, threats are made, and Kat and Gabe find themselves in a fight for their lives.

The sexual tension in this book is through the roof! Gabe is carrying tons of baggage from his previous relationship with his fiancée who died three years earlier. Now, he’s all about sex, getting off, a real f*ck ‘em and leave ‘em style Don Juan. No more relationships for him – love doesn’t really exist. The only thing there might be between a man and a woman is sexual chemistry, nothing more. Kat, on the other hand, does believe in true love, and won’t give herself sexually to any man. She’s holding out for her true “half-side,” the one man who will complete her – much to Gabe’s dismay. But as I said, the sexual tension is high and the non-sex sex scenes are some of the hottest I’ve ever read. Wow… have a cold drink and a fan nearby – I’m just sayin’…

Kat is very different from any other female lead I’ve ever read. She has this amazing ability to love unconditionally, and such a calm, gentle spirit, that while I admired her, I wasn’t sure I could come to believe in her as a heroine who would be able to hold her own. I should have known better than to doubt. While she might come across and meek and mild, when the chips were down it was her quiet confidence, her inner strength, and her faith that kept her going. As the story is reaching its suspenseful climax, Kat has fought with everything she has in her to escape. When she realizes that struggling anymore at this particular moment won’t do her any good and that she needs to save her strength for when the opportunity arises and she really can fight back, she becomes so focused. So calm. She begins singing Native American songs from her childhood, and I loved that!! Throughout the book we see how important her heritage is to her, and in a time when she most needed a calm strength, she had that to draw from. For Kat, in my opinion, this is what made the difference between life and death.

I’m not going to go into anymore of the story itself, but I just have to say that toward the end of the book while performing an act of absolute selflessness that had me sobbing so hard I had to put the book down to compose myself, Gabe went from being a hero I really liked, to one I not only love, but adore, one who has earned a spot on my Top Heroes shelf. While the stories and the players change, one thing is a given - Anytime I pick up one of Pamela Clare’s books, I know exactly what to expect – a fabulous read that will have me thinking about the characters and their lives long after I’ve finished the story.

As an aside - If you choose to read Naked Edge, and I truly hope you do, once you get past Kat’s accident on Mesa Butte, go to Ms. Clare’s website and read about how she came up with this part of the story. You’ll be amazed. In fact, even if you choose not to read this book, at least read the author’s notes: http://www.pamelaclare.com/notes_nake...

And now I’ll leave you with this parting word of caution—I’ve noticed a strange phenomenon attached to Pamela Clare’s books. Whenever I’m reading her stories, I find that my furniture gets dusty, trash piles up and I run out of clean clothes, so be prepared because this is likely to happen to you, too.

The I-Team reading order, so far:

1. Extreme Exposure
1.5 Heaven Can't Wait - a novella found in the out of print anthology Catch of the Day and on ebook
2. Hard Evidence
3. Unlawful Contact
4. Naked Edge
5. Breaking Point
5.5. Skin Deep
5.9. First Strike
6. Striking Distance

Probably the BEST book I've read this year! I just looooved the H/h (park ranger Gabe and Navaho newspaper journalist Kat) in this one. What a super-couple! So emotional, so gut wrenching, so suspenseful...what an awesome writer Pamela Clare is. The tears I shed over this one. My only complaint--there's not enough PC books out there! Oh, if she could only be as prolific as Lora Leigh...

No plot review here--there are plenty of great reviews out there that detail the plot (which btw, was pretty easy to follow and interesting, and I ended up learning a lot about Navaho customs, rock climbing, newspaper reporting and how a newsroom works). I'll just mention a few of my favorite scenes...

*******Possible spoilers***************

I liked when Kat was up-front with Mr. One-night-stand Gabe (who was anxious to sleep with her) about her virginity, telling him that she was looking for a man who "wants to be a part of my life and isn't just looking for a one-night stand. So unless you want lots of children, love mutton stew, and enjoy spending your summer vacations in one-hundred-fourteen-degree heat in a two room hogaan without electricity or running water, we shouldn't even start down that road."

I loved the whole characterization of Gabe. He was basically a (very) good guy who had really been emotionally hurt in the past, and therefore afraid to get emotionally tied to a woman again. I loved how he fought and fought his feelings for Kat (you know the hero never wins when he does that!) I loved the inner dialogue he had with himself--I loved the little italicized responses his conscience made!

Loved the little nickname the Navaho women gave Gabe--"Ranger Easy-On-The-Eyes".

Loved the scene of a drunken Gabe who had to have Kat drive him home. Loved all the wicked things he said he'd like to do to Kat..."God, I want you! I want to kiss you until you can't think. I want to kiss thoses perfect breasts. I want to taste you everywhere. I want to f*** you so damn bad. You don't even know what I mean, do you?" Yowza!

I loved the character of Kat. What a heroine to stand up and cheer for! Loved her backstory, loved her relationship with Gabe, loved her spunk and her courage, loved how she didn't give up on Gabe. No complaints about her, except she did seem to do a lot of crying in this book...but she did have plenty to cry about (both good and bad).

Loved the relationship between Kat and Gabe. Loved the sexual build up in their relationship as they really got to know each other and went one step further, then one step further, until they finally made love. What a beautiful scene that was--tender, passionate, and highly erotic.

Loved the suspense aspect of the book. Loved how it tied into Kat and Gabe getting romantically involved. Loved the time that Kat and Gabe spent in the mountain hideaway while their lives were being threatened. This time together really cemented the relationship and helped Gabe to see that he was ready to love again.

Loved the suspenseful climax of the book. OMG, the scene where Gabe was dangling over the cliff with the bad guy, and what he did in order to save Kat's life, brought tears to my eyes. Talk about willing to die for your lady love!

And ahhhh, the epilogue. So sweet, so satifying. But darn, I just wanted the book to go on and on...I hadn't had enough of Gabe and Kat yet!
***********************************************
A little heads up--this book is part of a series, although it's not absolutely necessary to read the ones before this one. However, once you read this one, I guarantee you'll want to go back and read all the others. All the characters from the previous books make appearances, with some (like Marc Hunter from Unlawful Contact and Julian Darcangelo from Hard Evidence) having fairly big roles. I liked the male bonding they did with Gabe, who needed a few male friends in his life. I hope they continue to make appearances in upcoming books.

Fans of romantic suspense, you don't want to miss this book! It's that good. And there is no skimping on the romance, either. This was such a well written book, and you can tell the author did plenty of research and knew what she was talking about--it came across as very authentic. Add to that a couple of real characters with flaws and problems and plenty of chemistry, some very steamy love scenes, and one of the most gripping climaxes I've ever read that also wrung the tears out of me, and you have one big winner of a book. Don't miss it! 5 big stars.

5+ stars – Romantic Suspense

Wow! Boy oh boy do I love this series! Pamela Clare continually blows me away with an explosive, winning combination of sexy, protective, to die for alpha heroes, strong heroines, thought provoking, sensitive storylines, intelligent suspense, thrilling action, and emotional, hot, hot, HOT romance, and this latest I-Team installment is certainly no exception and in fact surpasses Hard Evidence for my favorite of the series.

After a religious ceremony is viciously disbanded on Mesa Butte, land sacred to Native Americans, Navajo investigative journalist Katherine James decides to report on it; after all, she was an eye witness, having been personally assaulted during the raid. Kat teams up with mountain park ranger and rock climbing god Gabriel Rossiter to uncover the truth, but soon their probing into matters that someone wants kept hidden makes Kat a target and Gabe swears to protect her.

Environmental reporter Kat is a strong, honorable, innocent heroine determined to remain true to her personal beliefs. Gabe is a tough, protective bed ‘em and leave ‘em hero whose past has left him hardened and cynical about love and relationships. He feels an explosive attraction and powerful emotional connection to Kat, but Gabe avoids romantic entanglements and is only interested in sex. Since she’s not willing to compromise her virtue or principles, a relationship between them seems impossible. Even though the ‘burned in the past, emotionally anguished, and doesn’t believe in love man slut captivated by a beautiful, seemingly unattainable virginal heroine’ is a rather common theme, Clare conveys a touching, realistic portrayal of Gabe and Kat’s sexual chemistry, growing affection, and heartbreaking romantic struggles.

I really felt like the author strived to be as fair and accurate as possible in her depiction of Native American culture and in shedding light on some of the longstanding prejudices that still exist towards a race of people that history has been continually harsh towards.

I don’t want to give anything away, but the latter part of the book will have you white knuckle gripping the edge of your seat, and if you’re mushy like me, shedding some serious tears. Naked Edge is another intense, absorbing, emotional, action-packed, and steamy top-notch romantic suspense read in the amazing I-Team series. I highly recommend it! Big 5 stars!

21/2/11 ETA:***NAKED EDGE WINS THE ALL ABOUT ROMANCE BEST ROMANTIC SUSPENSE FOR 2010!!!***

Big BRAVO AND CONGRATS to Pamela Clare for Naked Edge winning the All About Romance Best Romantic Suspense for 2010, as voted by the readers!!! And to think she thought it was the worst thing she had ever written. Oh, Pamela, it is AMAZING and I'm glad I took the time to vote. I'm happy you took the risks you did, and with your authentic Navajo heroine! Ahe'hee! Thank you for this book!

THE NAKED TRUTH ON NAKED EDGE

This is the confession of an I-Team-oholic…

AFFIDAVIT

I, Lady Jayne, of Adelaide, in the State of South Australia, Australia, MAKE OATH AND SAY that I am an I-Team-oholic. I devoured this series one book after the other in October 2010, until I had to wait for the next one - Breaking Point (I-Team, #5), release date 3rd May 2011. With each book I read in Pamela Clare’s sizzling, romantic and suspenseful I-Team series, I thought, “This one is my favourite!”, as I loved each and every book so much. And NAKED EDGE was no different! WONDERFUL read!!!

The heroine of Naked Edge is Katherine James, an environmental journalist and valued member of the Denver Independent Investigative Team (I-Team). I've read that some readers had trouble relating to Kat. I, personally, related very strongly to Kat, being half Native (though a Native of Borneo, not the Americas (Kat is Navajo)) and half Caucasian, myself. Also, having been a modern day 26 year old virgin myself, like Kat, staying strong to my beliefs, awaiting my true “half-side”, believing in love and “happily-ever-afters”, trying to find the balance between traditional and modern beliefs. I also had a beloved grandmother whose cultural beliefs and teachings remained with me, after I left home. What I admired most about Kat was her gentle spirit, quiet strength and love and dedication to her people and the land. She wanted to be a journalist to be a "voice" for the Native people.

The hero, Gabriel Rossiter (a.k.a. “Ranger Easy-on-the-Eyes”/ “Rock God”), is the extreme outdoorsman, a Boulder Mountain Parks Ranger, paramedic, agile climber, scaling heights in nothing more than a pair of shorts and special climbing shoes (Mmmm… those taut, glistening muscles!) and skilled skier extraordinaire. I wasn’t sure about Gabe, in the beginning, because of “seeing” him getting it on with a woman who was not the heroine. But as the story unfolded, with Gabe’s back-story and seeing him as he came to know and love Kat, I came to love him more and more. Gabe had been burnt in love in the past and no longer believed in "fairy tales", seeing “love” as nothing more than physical chemistry. But Gabe is honourable, strong, intelligent, rugged, protective, brave, and OH, SO SEXY! And what he did for Kat? True love!

Gabe's internal dialogue was so funny and brought many smiles and laughs, as I was reading:

"She was a virgin who believed in happily-ever-afters. A virgin! When was the last time he used that word to describe anything other than olive oil?"

"Her gaze dropped to his chest. She reached out and ran her fingertips through the sweat-damp hair on his chest, the contact making the muscles of his abdomen jerk.
His mouth went dry. "Yeah. Fine. Hungry?"

One touch, and you're reduced to monosyllables. Yeah, you're screwed."

The sexual tension between Kat and Gabe, and the intimate moments of the "I did not have sexual relations" kind … SIZZLED. And when Gabe finally got NAKED??? Oh, me. Oh, my. WOW! That’s all I can say.

I place my hand on my heart and swear that I LOVED this book and ADORED Kat and Gabe, individually, and together.

I also adored the scenes with Julian and Hunt (the heroes from Hard Evidence and Unlawful Contact) and their smile-inducing and laugh-out-loud adorable bickering - What a “Bromance”! I just LOVE them! ^_^ Pamela Clare writes to-die-for heroes.

The climax of this book had me on the edge of my seat, my heart beating rapidly and ready to leap out of my chest, and tears streaming down my face. Now THAT was a mighty climax!!!

What did I think when I finished this book? Well, here’s a direct quote from my last status update:

“*siiiigghhss* *sniff, sniff* *grins* *more sighing* That was AWESOMENESS!!!!”

The Native American elements in this book were not only grounded in research, but in Pamela Clare’s own personal experiences with the Native people. Her respect for the Native American people shines through in this story.

An “Author’s Note” (link below) is available on Pamela Clare’s blog site and demonstrates how much of Ms. Clare’s own experiences were drawn from in the writing of this story. Reading this Note, I came to not only admire Ms. Clare’s writing abilities and skill in creating characters that have burrowed their way into my heart, but it is clear that the qualities possessed by her characters are a reflection of her own admirable strength of human spirit and concern and respect for others. Bravo, Pamela!

EXHIBITS TO THE AFFIDAVIT:

My Kat, with her hazel green eyes, caramel skin and dark brown hair, is Kristin Kreuk … at least the way she looks in these images.

Wearing her dangling turquoise earrings, that she wore the first time she and Gabe met:

My Gabe Rossiter (a.k.a. “Ranger Easy-on-the-Eyes”/ “Rock God”) is the delicious, ruggedly sexy, Alex O’Loughlin. Although, I realise that I need not have said that since his deliciousness speaks for itself. Right? ^_^

And, of course, this “confession” would not be complete without some…ahem...“Naked Edge”. ^_~ Rest assured, it's not of me! LOL

Paperback-5 Stars! Ebook-5-Stars! Audiobook-10 Stars!!!

Just a little update and reminisce review, me having fun again!

Okay, so Dorsey tells me to listen to the I-Team series on audio, and since she knows what I like, I do what she tells me. Now mind you, I’ve read this book, multiple times, but hey, it’s the I-Team, so I’m all for it! The narrator Kaleo Griffith is the sh*t!! This guy’s voice oozes sex!! In my opinion he is spot on with how these guys would sound if we had the good fortune of them being living breathing heroes and not characters in a book. He injects Gabe’s playful side, but where he nails it, is how tender and loving Gabe is with Kat, and when that man whispers sweet nothings and dirty talk in my ear…well...KABOOM…I explode!!

Most of my friends have read this so let’s have a look back, no spoilers, just one of my fave scenes…actually two, they come one right after the other, and so does Kat!

Okay, I have one word for you…mirror…remember the mirror???
“He caught her right leg with the back of his right arm, pinned it where it was, then held the mirror between her legs, angling it so that she could see. “You are beautiful. See?”
Yeah, I see, I hear and right about now I got a whole lot of feeling going on…and I can’t breathe!!! Then Gabe, in his infinite wisdom, decides to let the naïve Kat see and experience the male body for the first time, without having sex!
“So this makes a baby.” There was a note of awe in her voice. “Not like this.” He reached for the box of tissues on his nightstand. “Mostly, it just makes a mess.” LMAO!! Oh Gabe, you are funny! I loved that scene, he did everything to make Kat comfortable, just went with the flow…what a man, letting her take advantage of him like that *snicker*!!

Lastly, this book has one of the BEST ENDINGS EVER!!! I love that scene too, but I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone…my lips are sealed.

So if you’ve read the book, think about giving the audio version a shot, it’s FANTASTIC, and if you’ve never read this series or this book, you’re missing something very special and should give it a look-see!!

Thank you Dorsey!!! If not for you telling me about the audio books...well I don't even want to think about it!

Rugged and tall, with deep blue eyes. His square jaw was covered with dark whiskers, his thick, dark hair curling at his nape. My Gabriel Rossiter!

*3.5* Navajo investigative journalist Kat James is a virgin in her late 20's. I understand the conservatism of her Navajo upbringing and where she lived, but I found it somewhat implausible that she had never even touched herself. Kat meets rock climbing expert and park ranger Gabe Rossiter, after he saves her life. He's been hurt by a woman in the past so he becomes a manwhore to cover his pain. (Insert eye roll) Despite my annoyance with this premise, the overall story and mystery is really well done.

The heroes from books 1-3 are in this one, it was nice to have them helping solve this mystery. The ending was quite satisfying.

I-Team investigative reporter Katherine (Kat) Martin met Mountain Ranger Gabriel (Gabe) Rossiter after he rescued her following a fall in a mountain rockslide. A few months later, he intervenes again when she and other American Indians in the region are wrongly accused by a Boulder police officer for trespassing on Mesa Butte. That begins an investigation that leads down some curious and dangerous paths.

I loved this story, especially because I didn't think I would. Clare did a wonderful job of providing an educational background regarding the American Indian culture around a suspense-filled story that I found compelling. Kat and Gabe were extremely interesting characters on their own and as a couple. Both transformed over the course of the story in a believable and realistic manner. Considering that Gabe wasn't all that admirable at the start, it was major hurdle for me to see him heroically. The narration continues to be outstanding.

Each book in this series seems to live up to or exceed the preceding stories. This is turning out to be one of my favorites. 4.5 stars

Naked Edge is a great romance book from the very talented Pamela Clare. The book tells a wonderful romance story and takes you on a thrilling ride as you try to decide who is after the lead couple. The end of the book is amazing and will have tears running down your face because it is so emotional.

Katherine James is a Navajo Indian who works as an investigative reporter in Denver but she grew up on a reservation. She moved to Denver after college because she needed a change of pace from her home where her mother and half-siblings treat her badly because she is half-white. She becomes part of the headlines when a Native American religious ceremony she is taking part in is violently interupted by local police. As a local policeman is accosting her, she is saved once again by a park ranger who saved her life months earlier during a rock fall - Gabriel Rossiter.

Gabe and Kat start to work together to figure out why local police targeted the Native American ceremony which was legal. Gabe and Kat are very attracted to each other but seem to be two very different people. Gabe is an extreme rock climber and skiier who lives life on the edge and uses women for only one thing - sex, no emotions involved. Kat believes she has one man out there who is meant for her, so she does not believe in having sex until she meets him. After having a difficult childhood from her mother's affair, she doesn't want to chance having kids until she is in a permanent relationship. So how can she and Gabe have anything together when she is looking for forever and Gabe is just looking to score? Well, there is a lot more depth to Gabe than it seems. He has closed himself off from love and emotions after being hurt very bad earlier in life, but being around Kat starts to thaw his heart enough to let her into his life.

The danger stalking Kat and Gabe as they investigate a murder and the stealing of Native American aritifacts gets closer and more dangerous. Kat and Gabe are drawn closer as they are forced together due to the danger. Kat has her work cut out for her as she tries to understand why Gabe acts so hot and cold sometimes. She knows she will have an uphill battle trying to win Gabe's heart but she believes he is worth it. Gabe is very attracted to Kat and respects her a lot but he fights his feelings for her. Will Kat and Gabe stay ahead of the murderer with Hunter and Julian's help? Will Gabe give into his feelings for Kat and find his heart again? Will Kat finally find her half self in Gabe?

I really loved Kat in this story. She was a strong young woman who stayed true to her beliefs and knew who she was as a person. Gabe takes a little longer to really fall for at first, but I enjoyed his inner monologues and the way we saw his inner turmoil over his feelings for Kat. He had been dealt a harsh blow earlier in his life that he had to work his way through to be able to love Kat the way she deserved, but she doesn't give up on him. The chemistry between Kat and Gabe is red hot and I think it was even hotter because they don't make love for awhile because Gabe respects Kat's beliefs. When they finally do make love, it was worth waiting for and seemed very special and sexy. There was a special connection between Gabe and Kat that really made me believe in their love. Despite Gabe's initial reluctance, believe me by the end you will trust whole-heartedly in his love for Kat. The end parts of this book were an amazing emotional roller coaster that had me crying then sighing.

Naked Edge is one amazing romantic suspense. Kat and Gabe are wonderful three-dimensional characters who seem so realistic because they have unique and complicated personalities but seem perfect for each other. Kat's Navajo roots and beliefs were nicely integrated into the story in a way that showed the author was familiar with the subject. The romance was wonderful and had one of the best endings of a book I have ever read, the author ripped out my heart then made cry with happiness when it was restored. Very highly recommended!

First read March 14-16, 2011

I so love Ms. Clare's books! I just love how she can describe a man's 'heavy testicles' is such a way that it sounds so 'caveman' and yet so sexy at the same time!
Great story! Loved how Ms. Clare incorporated Katherine's American Native traditions and culture throughout this book, and how responsive and accepting Gabe was.
Excellent characters and writing! Love the whole I-Team supporting one another in crisis situations, and I really like how Tom wasn't 'such an asshole' in this book without sacrificing his dedication to 'Freedom of Speech' and to getting down to the truth of a story ...he actually seemed human in this story!
Will be reading the next book shortly!

Second read July 23-25, 2013

What I wrote above still stands. This was an amazing read.
I loved the action, the extreme climbing & skiing in this book. Gabe you are a 'rock god'!
I really like how Kat didn't compromise or give up beliefs in the story, and that Gabe accepted her beliefs, strength, courage and love to heal him and allow him to be the man he was meant to be.

Check out my review and fantasy cast on Under the Covers

First and foremost, I have to talk about Clare’s storytelling abilities. Not only does each subsequent instalment get better, but Clare manages to keep things fresh in every book. Naked Edge to me, is more raw, more elemental and spiritual as it showcases Kat’s Navajo traditions and beliefs. It was so vastly different from the other books, but still very much engaging and riveting!

I loved that Clare made Kat’s background a major aspect of the book! This book was so culturally rich, I felt I was learning along with Gabe as she explained her beliefs and traditions. This not only made for a perfect way to veer the plot forward but it also made Kat more real to me. You could tell that she held her beliefs close to her heart. Even if she lives in Denver, she’s still a rez girl.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t that excited to read her story since she’s one of the more reserved I-Team members, but I enjoyed her shyness and vulnerability. Paired with her determination and strong-will, Kat made for an amazing heroine! I absolutely adored her.

But Gabriel Rossiter was the star of this book! Clare has a way of making me love each of her characters, especially her heroes. But for some reason, I felt that Gabe’s POV stood out amongst the others. I LOVED reading into his mind. How he pined for Kat, how he fought his emotions for her, how feelings of grief and anger oscillated with one another surrounding Jill. All of it made me love him more! To me, Gabe represented the ultimate alpha with his protectiveness. However, there is one more thing that made me love him so much...it was the fact that throughout this whole thing, he never made promises he couldn’t keep. He never led Kat on about his feelings. He let her know what he could give her and what he couldn’t, without spilling the secrets of his past. I have to respect that.

Gabe, you are an angel and if you haven’t read this series already, I promise you, you will never be the same after reading one of Clare’s books! Clare puts so much heart in her little books. She is able to make me laugh and cry in equal measures, making each book a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Naked Edge is no exception.

As you can tell, I have been obsessed with this series for awhile now. Some of my wonderful friends and fellow bloggers have referred this series to me, so I’d like to give them shout-outs. Rhonda, (of Shameless Romance Reviews) thank you, thank you, thank you for physically shoving this series into my face and riding my ass until I read them. I am eternally thankful for your persistence. I also want to give a shout out to Lady Jayne of Lady Jayne’s Reading Den who writes the most extensive and fun-filled reviews for this series. Jayne, you match my obsession for this series but are much better at pimping them out!

And now, I am onto Breaking Point and Zach McBride! Here I come, baby!

{{NO SPOILERS}}:: I read most of this on my flight back from a business trip to Denver yesterday, where I was lucky enough to meet Pamela Clare in person and get a copy of this book. (To say I was thrilled is an understatement!) I have to wonder what people must of thought I was reading. I was either dabbing my eyes with a tissue, grinning ear-to-ear and laughing, biting my lip as the suspense built and built, or just blushing because this book was steamy HOT. Probably the hottest of the series, but be prepared for some big emotional punches too. This was quite an emotional roller coaster ride as it takes you on a journey that includes the life and culture of Native Americans in Colorado. I wont give away any spoilers as I know most haven't read it yet, but I can safely say that fans of this series will be very happy. While there are characters from previous books, it is a stand-alone read too and would be a great place to start if you haven't read this author before.

Naked Edge by Pamela Clare is the fourth book in her I-Team series and just as strong and entertaining as the others. This romantic suspense is a little heavier on the romance than the suspense, but there is also a lot of information on Navaho traditions and lore, rock climbing and investigative reporting. The plot blends all these pieces together in an extremely interesting story.

Katherine ‘Kat’ James is a Navaho journalist working in Denver on the I-Team and continuing to follow her traditions with the local Lakota in the Denver area. Gabe Rossiter is a Park Ranger for the area and avid outdoor extreme sports man. Their lives intersect once when Kat falls in a rockslide and once again when the police raid a sweat lodge ceremony. Appalled by the treatment of the local Native Americans, both Kat and Gabe are set on finding out why Mesa Butte is suddenly off limits for ceremonies.

This book can be read as a standalone because the plot is self-contained, but there are recurring characters with continuing story arcs throughout the series, so if you are like this, read the previous books. The sex is explicit in spots, but very much a part of the story and not just tossed in for shock value. My only complaint with the romance was that it takes a long time to find out why Gabe is against relationships, but believe me, he redeems himself beyond belief in the end.

I must be extremely lucky because this was yet another book that totally amazed me.

This book had it all, great story, action, suspense, mystery, jaw dropping moments as well as heart wrenching and happy moments too. The H&h were fantastic characters with wonderful chemistry. The heroine Kat was a total innocent when it came to men and Gabe was so tender with her when the time was right for them to join. Oh My, the joining's these two had where absolutely beautiful and not to mention hot. They both were brave and by the end of the book where willing to do what it took to keep the other safe.

I loved how Pamela had her other characters from the previous book's in this series in this book too.

The ending WOWED me. I don't want to post any spoilers so I'll just say that the ending was not what I expected and while it was a HEA it was bitter sweet for me. That only made the book even better because I have never read an ending like that before.

Now I can hardly wait for Breaking Point, just a day or two more and it will be in my hands.

I had heard wonderful things about this book and am so happy to say that I wasn't disappointed. Here's how much I enjoyed it: my daughter has a double ear infection and is throwing up and not eating or sleeping, and when she finally goes to bed I should probably get some sleep ASAP. But instead, I stayed up until 1am to finish Naked Edge. Once I got to the last 50 pages, there was no way I could put it down.

All in all, an awesome book, and one I definitely recommend to fans of romantic suspense.

This is the fourth in the I-Team series by Pamela Clare. I've differed from most of my friends in that I've been less than wow'd by this series. I'm a huge fan of PC's historicals (Untamed is my favorite), but, although the heroes are amazingly, fantastically, sexily awesome, I'm not feelin' the I-Team.

Enter "Naked Edge". Definitely the best story of all of the I-Team series. Straight forward, extremely plausible, but not a cliche. Action oriented, with a lot of extremely evocative writing that pulled me in so deeply there were passages where I forgot to breathe. The climax of this book is one of the best, and most thrilling I've read.

The romance is pretty nice. It takes a bit too long to find out what Gabe's problem is, but he's still a very intriguing guy. I was worried I wouldn't like Kat, though. She's pretty standoffish and judgmental at the beginning of the story, but she warms up quickly. She's very intuitive, even if she's incredibly innocent in areas of romance and sex. They make an excellent couple.

Gabe is a hero for the ages. Seriously. He rocketed to the top of my list of favorites. But as much as I love him, I do recommend reading the other three books first because there are recurring characters (particularly the heroes) and their dynamic evolves over time. That might not be enjoyed to its fullest if you jump in here in the fourth.

I have a few complaints. First, there's a writing 'tick' that softens statements too much, making certain moments wishy-washy. Paraphrase: "He felt warmed somehow by their acceptance." "Something in her chest tightened." It's okay to use these ... I'm not sure what to call them -- not really 'qualifiers' but they have a similar effect ... from time to time, but they're used in abundance here, making every statement somehow squishy.

My other complaint is with the epilogue. It felt like an info-dump of cultural research and, after that amazing climax and denoument (sp?), it had the effect of eroding the excitement and satisfaction I'd felt at the end of the last chapter. Not that an epilogue wasn't necessary. The first part of it was crucial. It just meandered on for too long, IMO, and I'd also rather it focus on another aspect of their future rather than the quickie wrap-up that happened (no I'm not going to be specific, because it would be a major spoiler -- read it your own darn self!).

But except for those two (three?) complaints, I really enjoyed this reading experience. Very hard to put it down, so make sure you've got a time cushion when you get started.

PS: I might have missed it, but the event that first introduced Kat and Gabe to each other didn't seem to be included. After PC's blog post detailing her harrowing experience, I know what was supposed to have happened, but I don't recall it being described in the book. Am I right or is it my brain playing tricks again? ETA: An e-book glitch causes my device to skip the prologue where this event happens. I was able to back up using the 'previous page' button, but the device just opens this book at Chapter 1, skipping the prologue altogether. FYI in case it happens to you.

Anyway -- thumbs up for this one!

PSS: My DH saw a coyote walking down our street today ... I hope it doesn't mean anything ...

Pamela Clare writes the perfect balance of romance and suspense!

description

It's been a while since I've read this series because I was so hardcore in love with Marc Hunter from Unlawful Contact, that if I went right into the next one I knew it wouldn't be fair to the characters. I'd be comparing them to Hunt and his Sophie. Man, did I make the right and wrong choice!

I was right in that I needed the distance, but wrong in why the hell did I wait so long to come back?!?!?

Gabe Rossiter was the perfectly damaged leading man. Just enough of everything. Enough angst. Enough pessimism. Enough anger. Enough vulnerability. Enough tenderness. Enough protectiveness.

After suffering a devastating loss and betrayal three years prior, Gabe is all about fuck 'em and leave 'em. No strings, no emotion. He doesn't have it in him. Until Kat. Kat awakens something in him, touches a part of him that he's long since forgotten or felt. And it completely unsettles him.

He didn't want to want her, didn't want to need her, didn't want to get any more tangled up in her than he already was. He didn't want to feel whatever it was she made him feel.

Kat was a great leading lady. She had a quiet strength. She could have easily been portrayed weak by her innocent, feminine vulnerability, but she wasn't a damsel in distress. She didn't shut down when shit hit the fan. She was strong-willed, deeply rooted in her Native American beliefs, and completely open to the world. The perfect warmth to Gabe's cold shell. Although having her doubts about Gabe, she quickly saw through him. His words didn't match his actions, and she quickly found herself drawn to him.

She loved that he was at home in the wild, that he knew how to survive and thrive. She loved that he was strong and courageous, every inch the warrior.

Watching these two discover each other while trying to stay safe from the dangerous case Kat is working on, had me gripping my kindle from the action both in and out the bedroom. And when we hit the big action-packed climax....I was hyperventilating from the action, crying from the emotion and anxious for the possible outcomes.

Overall, this series seems to be hitting its stride. It was great catching up with the previous couples and seeing how this tight-knit group is doing long past their HEA's. I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for the other I-Team members!

3,5 estrellas.

Opening Line: "Gabriel Rossiter unzipped his pants only far enough to free his…"

Well, what can I say? Another fantastic addition to the I-Team series (#4) I’ve come to the conclusion that Pamela Clare can do no wrong, as each book in this series is unputdownable. Just excellent romantic suspense that never dumbs down the reader. Actually I think that’s what I appreciate most about her writing (besides the smoking hot love scenes) the fact that Clare writes a clever story with characters you can believe in, faults and all. I never catch myself going yeah right, that’s ridiculous with one of her books and I usually learn a thing or two as well.

And DAMN, let’s just get this out of the way, can she ever write a drool worthy hero. Gabe… oh my god do they get much yummier than him (acknowledging all her past heroes of course.) But Gabe, the climber, the descriptions of him scaling rock faces, hanging on by his fingertips while his muscles bulge and tense just about did me in. These men of Pamela’s truly are in a league of their own. How could a girl ever choose a favourite?

“Wearing only his dark green uniform trousers he was climbing on the underside of an overhanging lip of rock perhaps thirty feet above the ground. She couldn’t see any ropes…”

“His body moved like she’d never seen a body move before, powerful arms reaching for handholds, fingers gripping holds she couldn’t see, his feet finding their own invisible purchase. His body seemed weightless, muscles bunching and shifting in their own rhythms as he worked his way along the length of the overhang, his motions strong and beautiful. Oh. My.”

So yeah now that I’ve got that out of my system. Naked Edge is actually a very sweet love story in amongst all the bullets and danger, revolving around journalist and Navajo nation member Katherine James and “Rock Jock” Park Ranger/adrenaline junkie Gabriel Rossiter. I won’t go into the plot as there are already so many fabulous reviews out there but I will say that there was a shocking event towards the end that I had to read twice because I just couldn’t believe it and add a couple of things I loved.

-Loved that Marc Hunter and Darkangelo had significant page space here, so that as well as giving us updates on their lives we get to see that their new bromance is progressing well (Dorkangelo) these guys are hilarious together. I can easily see Gabe joining their ranks.

-Loved all the Navajo nation, Diné history and language and have to compliment Pamela Clare on her extensive research and the time and love she puts into every one of her stories. It is noticed and appreciated.

-Loved, loved, loved the epilogue. 10 months later which really gives you an insight into their HEA and how their new life together is progressing. Very well I might add! Cheers

Second read...

Good really, really good.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I just finished the book and wiping the tears out of my eyes! Pamela, you have out done yourself with this one!

What an incredible book. Five stars are not enough!

I really did not want this book to end only because I knew the wait for the next book will be a long one.
I have recently discovered Pamela Clare, and boy am I glad I have!! I have seen others compare her to Christy Reece and Cindy Gerard for her ability to write suspense. IMHO, she is the best in the romantic suspense genre’. Naked Edge is proof positive of that.
Nothing I can say will do the book justice, but I’ll give it a try.
Gabe is a lost soul, and in his mind in-capable of love due to the events and betrayals of his past. Kat is a 26 year old virgin looking for her “half-side”. She is not willing to compromise her beliefs for any man. This makes her somewhat naïve, but aren’t we all when we are looking for our HEA. Once Kat and Gabe are thrown together, a friendship grows into something Gabe never thought he was capable of, but Kat knew all along he was.
Pamela Clare’s ability to submerse the reader in the story and make them forget everything going on around them is amazing. There is the right amount of suspense mixed in with romance. That is not an easy feat when one of the principals is a virgin. This aspect of the story is well written and tasteful.
The only downfall to the story is that it had to end…

Re-Read August 28-September 2, 2013

I didn't care for this book as much the second time I read it. Kat's character got on my nerves. She seemed to cry too much. I thought of Gabe as more of an ass. Go figure? I thought there was a lot of telling what happened in this story in lieu of showing and that kind of bugged me, too.

Not changing my initial rating of 5 stars though.

First read March 14-16, 2010 (5 Stars)

Wow! What a ride, er, book. Enjoyed it from beginning to end. It is set in both Denver and Boulder, Colorado and carries a Native American theme. Naked Edge is part of a series, and I recommend the series be read in order as previous characters pop in and out of the books with brief updates and actual involvement.

Thoroughly enjoyed the main characters, Gabe and Kat. Kat's character had been in the earlier books, kinda of stoic, but her personality and backstory help set her up for growth here. Gabe! He had a tale to tell and that explained why he became the person that he had become--a man whore. His internal dialogue had me chuckling. :-) Enjoyed some of the bantering between Gabe and Kat and the way he shocked her at times.

Nice plot! Excellent suspense and I was surprised by the finale. Saddened abit by an event, but saw where the author went with it and it was a pill I could swallow.

Nicely written! Can't wait for the next one in this series or the Colonial American series. :-) No pressure!

I absolutely LOVED this book :) :)

I have been meaning to start this series for ages and I will admit this is my first one even though it is book 4 in the series.

I really didn't feel lost without starting at the beginning, even though other characters were mentioned from previous books.

Gabe is

He is so sweet and protective with Kat.

Kat is a strong independent woman. Who is determined in everything she does, be it work or relationships. Surprisingly enough she didn't annoy me either at any aspect in the book :)

The crime aspect didn't completely enthrall me although it did get quite tense towards the end. Yet GABE more than made up for that :)

Buddy read with Blacky- Thanks for having the patience to read it with sweetie hahaha! mwah
