When professor/literary reviewer Delaney Conner wins a makeover, she's suddenly getting lots of attention! Too bad it's from bad boy—and very sexy—author Nick Angel, whose latest book Delaney shredded. Her main complaint? All of Nick's sex scenes lack emotion. Where's the passion? The feelings? But when she and Nick find themselves between the sheets, Delaney ends up feeling far more than she ever expected….
Nick finds Delaney frustrating and very, very attractive. But experience tells him it's just skin-deep. So he challenges the seductive Delaney—either prove that love makes good sex great (her theory), or else admit that the world's greatest sex is purely physical (his theory). No matter who wins, they're going to have a deliciously decadent time proving each other wrong….

I did enjoy this book however ironically, with the characters debating between emotion vs action, having more of both in this book would have made it a much better story overall.
I liked both Delaney and Nick although both could have done with a little more depth. Delaney, being a geeky girl that transformed into a glamorous chick, could have been a lot more relatable than she ultimately was. The pair worked well together but again, a little more emotion could have made them the perfect couple.
As with any Blaze novel, there were some hot sex scenes although they didn't completely scorch the pages and weren't as plentiful as other similar books I have read.
Overall, this is a readable and enjoyable novel with likeable characters and believable situations. It could have been so much better but as it is, it's still worth a read if you've got a couple of hours to spare. 3 stars.
A darling idea for a book, humorous and full of emotional rollercoasters, where realizations are made, boundaries are pushed, and growth is abundant. Honestly found the whole premise of this book so interesting and it flowed so well into the love story between our mains that I am now a big fan of Tawny Weber and will be on the look out for more of her books!
I quite liked this one. I loved the witty, intelligent literary debates and the instant sexual chemistry as well as the emotional intensity that gradually developed. (A seriously hot phone sex scene helps, too, let me tell you)
The heroine's insecurities began to annoy me by the end though, and I was cheering on her friend when she was literally yelling at her to get over herself. But then both the hero and the heroine had to let go of their hang-ups (her with her lack of confidence in her sexual appeal and confidence and him with making himself vulnerable to anyone again, and both of them with rejection) and grow up and learn to trust each other so it wasn't too much of a problem.
I liked getting a glimpse into both an author's and a reviewer's psyche as well.
All in all, a pretty decent read even if the heroine's constant wails of "I'm not sexy or confident enough! He only likes me because I got a makeover! He'd run for his life if he saw me in my tatty old PJs and no makeup on!! WHY WON'T MY DADDY ACKNOWLEDGE MY EXISTENCE?!?!" did get fairly tiresome. But then the hero's constant disgust of himself whenever he caught himself doing or feeling things "like a teenage girl" were slightly eyeroll-worthy too so they were even.
I re-read this as part of my goal to review my old reads. I can absolutely see why younger me liked it. It's a decent read, but it has elements I used to be obsessed with: a character who's an author, a makeover, and a woman overcoming feeling invisible to get what she wants. Psycho-analyse those interests all you want. The book's a bit meta. It's about whether lusty sex or romantic sex is most appealing to readers while in a Harlequin romance novel. I liked Delaney. She's smart, and I'm probably still a sucker for a makeover. I always liked the idea that it's the confidence they gain from the makeover that makes them attractive, not the makeover itself. I didn't particularly care for Nick. He's the stereotypical jaded man who doesn't like love and wants his book character to be like James Bond, throwing away women left and right. I know his dates were over-sexualised to make his point, but I wasn't a fan of the club or a sex ball. I think I would have scored a little higher if Nick had lightened up.
I am not much of a romance reader, but I will read just about anything if it is free. Like many others, I got this book for free with fifteen other books from Harlequin. As of this writing, these books are still available at http://harlequincelebrates.com.
This book had a very clever, cute, and interesting story line that managed to not get completely lost in the sex, as has happened in most of the romance novels that I have read. The tension between Delaney and her father, coupled with the steps that she had to make in her own personal development, gave the story a lot of substance. However, if you are not looking for substance and are more into the steamy physical intimacy, there is a good amount of that, too. As is with many romance novels, it was a very quick read, and it kept me engaged for the most part. If you can still get it for free, then it is definitely worth the read.
*squeal!!!! That's pretty much what I was doing through the whole book. Which coming from me...is pretty high praise. I have a found a new author to look out for in Tawny Weber. I will now be making a trip to the library so I can binge-read her work, and I have to say I am pretty darned excited about it. The passion, the romance the humor. I just loved the book and the characters. Will most certainly have to buy this to add to my personal collection.
This was meh. It's basically about a man and a women fighting for power in a relationship. Idk. I just found it pointless and confusing in the final third of the book. Sort of rambled on and on about lust/intimacy and makeovers.
No female character should be introduced with a makeover in a romance novel imho. Sex scenes weren't hot enough to save the rest of the book.
This was an ereader freebie and not something that I would usually select. However, it was a cute story and was entertaining. Light, easy reading that filled a void when I was too lazy to look for something else to read.
English professor turns tv literary reviewer after a sex makeover to change her dowdy professorial image and snags sexy fiction author Nick Angel in the process. I like ugly duckling turned swan stories, and this is a good one. I just wished Delaney had more belief in herself as a person.
Made the mistake of starting this book late in the evening. Big mistake. The action in this story starts right off and wow. I just say wow. I am so happy that I got this book for my birthday. Read it!
