Our country is facing an epidemic and it concerns me greatly. Because I have this concern, books and articles on weight loss always interest me. Wendy Higdon traces the origins of sugar, our culture's love of sugar, sugar as a drug, the physical, medical, environmental and the emotional causes of obesity in a comprehensive yet simple to understand language so that the reader gets a solid history of why our society is now stereotyped as overweight bringing the level of illness our nation is contending with to a potentially bankrupting phenomenon.
The author challenges the reader to make choices now rather than make excuses. She explains the impact of negative self-talk and core beliefs that keep us filled with doubt or low self-worth making the challenge of significant weight loss overwhelming. She insists we must all begin with forgiveness. Forgiveness to others for any hurt they have caused us so that healing can begin, and forgiveness to ourselves to having made unhealthy choices. In other words, it is time to start fresh, let go of the negative energy that holding grudges or criticisms against your self will perpetuate.
By working toward creating a new identity, creating a new body image, watching out for our triggers or being sabotaged by food choices, we can begin to sense motion and commitment. With commitment, comes the ability to establish new habits and a belief in the necessity for the habit along with the ability to maintain the habit. Change Your Mind Change Your Body presents a weight loss plan that is accompanied by worksheets and goal setting in increments. The simple sense of the plan makes it seem attainable. I will definitely recommend Change Your Mind Change Your Body to as many people as it fits into our conversation.
