(Applause Books). This startling, intimate biography of James Stewart frankly reveals with new facts and discoveries a fully dimensional view of this revered figure and consummate American icon. Shrewd, self-protective, financially astute, the James Stewart that Mr. Quirk uncovers was no bumbling naive Mr. Smith, but a Man of the World.
I got this book from the library and while there were interesting and some funny stories, the book was dragged significantly down by the authors beliefs that there are "homoerotic" undertones throughout Stewart's work. These were the author's opinions that he offered no proof for, either. It was hard to tell what was the authors opinion and speculation throughout the book about everything else, and what was real and factual. 2 stars for the factual information–I'm sure there are much better books about this subject out there.
I enjoy biographies, and I've always liked Jimmy Stewart, but this book was a disappointment. For some reason, the author chose to focus on Stewart's sex life. I had to swim through all that to find out about any other aspect of his life. I don't recommend this author.
