The Resistance cause is one that Second-in-Command Ren has fought for most of his adult life. But when a surprise attack results in Angel's abduction and threatens his rank and his family, he is relieved and somewhat dismayed that he isn't demoted. Instead he is given a new meet with the mayor of Zephyr and convince him to join the Resistance. It's a mission marked for certain death.
Once Ren reaches Zephyr things aren't what they seem. The city of Zephyr is unfolding, changing, and could hold the demise of the United World Council in its borders. Before long Ren finds himself imprisoned on-board a United World Council ship for an assassination he did not commit. Scheduled to die in three days, Ren's crew must put their lives, their morals and their vows on the line to save him. A fast paced dystopian thriller in the Candidates series,  Zephyr Unfolding  is a compelling read.

At first the United World Council (UWC) seemed like a savior. Laurel Andersen the scientist, activist, and mastermind behind the council introduced all sorts of life saving cures and revolutionary ideas to restore the ozone and save the rainforest. Then, a strange thing started to happen. Suddenly, small countries began being threatened by terrorists and the members of the United Nations suddenly dropped dead of a mysterious virus. Much too late, the world realized that UWC's true intention was to rule the world. Now, the only thing stopping the genius madman is a small band of resistance.

Zephyr Unfolding takes the reader down a new road to the future. Often popular sci-fi depicts post apocalyptic scenes but usually the situation is the direct result of our misuse of nature and lack of caring for our fellow man. Interesting that solving the world's major problems leads to exactly the same end. Power corrupts no matter what the original intention.
