update - 20th Feb 2022. What do you do on a cold dark winters night with the storm lashing at the your window - apart from turn in with a great gothic horror story (to come). I revisit my book collection, this time the Paper Tiger series and of its mysteries. That of Chris Achilleos's second book Sirens.

It was originally published as part of the Paper Tiger series -so it rightfully has a place in the collection - however it appears to have gone through a number of reprints under different publishers - and in this case a later Foundry Publishing edition.

Now usually I would be the first to defend the Paper Tiger books - they have (and still do) bring me a of lot pleasure and there are still a considerable number out there to collection and I am sure a few more I need to learn more about.

However this edition from Foundry is a much higher quality - the paper and card used are to my eyes at least a higher grade and quality - the whole book feels as though it has had higher production standards applied to it (I know some of the late 80s Paper Tigers were very poorly bound with the spines often disintegrating all on their own). So now I have decided to update and replace my copy of the book although at heart I am still calling it a Paper Tiger book - so there!

So here is my second Paper Tiger entry - but why since I already have a copy, well not entirely true.

The reason is that my original copy is a reprint and not an original Paper Tiger print- now initially I thought they were one and the same just different publishers and different ages- but I was wrong.

Now apart from all the touch and smell of old books (come on hands up who know what I am talking about here) the print and even layout are slightly different.

Now okay I will admit I didn't spend a fortune on this book but still I prefer this over the reprint - true some of the images have moved so they are no longer over the spine (hate stressing the spine to appreciate the full image over two pages in case I break something - which considering the age of he book is more than likely) and the paper quality is marginally better but still this is the edition I have been looking for and wanting all this time. So yes duplication of books is never good but in this case it was my goal.

I happened across this book in a used comic shop and I'm very happy I did. It was great to read about the background of the author and get some context for some of the amazing art!

This guy is a really great artist, I do like his work, but I still prefer a few other artists over his. He is not my favorite although his is quite talented. His pin-up art work is really good, his newer work is definitely better than his older work, by far.
