At the end of nearly every "60 Minutes" program we watch, my husband or I will say, "I miss Andy." Andy Rooney always gave the show a bit of levity or insight or a chance for reflection after an intense series of three eye-opening reports. He seemed to always see the world the way we had, but he had the words we didn't to put what we were experiencing in context.

This collection was inspiring and fun, mostly because it's now so dated. Of course, even with that, he said what we were thinking, back in the 1980s: Who's going to even want one of these personal computers when I'm perfectly capable of balancing my checkbook without it? (for example)

So "Word for Word" is a great collection of Andy's perspective on all sorts of topics -- from going to the doctor to starting a home project. If you don't see yourself in any of these, you're not from planet earth.

I've long enjoyed Andy's writing style. His amazing ability to sometimes the simplest thoughts or ideas and just talk about them in such an entertaining manner. Sometimes just wishful thinking or serious deep thoughts. He's rarely full of himself but in fact self depreciating at times. He's aware of who he is and doesn't brag or apologize for being himself. I wish I had his ability and patience to write stuff down and make others want to read it.

A highly enjoyable read. His proses were many of our thoughts. I love to read along with the audio books. I could in my mind hear Andy as I read. This volume on tape read by the Andy would make an all time favorite.
