Award-winning author Margaret Moore actually began her career at the age of eight, when she and a friend concocted stories featuring a lovely, spirited damsel and a handsome, misunderstood thief nicknamed "The Red Sheik."
Unknowingly pursuing her destiny, Margaret graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. During that time, she also became a Leading Wren with the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, where she learned to use a variety of weapons and had the weepy experience of being tear-gassed.
In addition to being a wife and mother of two, she's also been an award-winning public speaker, synchronized swimmer, an archer, and studied fencing and ballroom dancing.
Margaret sold her first historical romance and the premiere book of her Warrior series, A WARRIOR'S HEART, to Harlequin Historicals® in 1991. Lettura interessante principalmente per la protagonista femminile, che è sfaccettata e non banale come ci si potrebbe aspettare. Ha affrontato da sola una vita familiare piuttosto dura e non ha avuto tutti i riconoscimenti che meritava, imho.
A essere più banale è il protagonista maschile, circondato e sorretto da altri uomini/cavalieri ingombranti, ma almeno ha la caratteristica positiva di non essere disinvolto con le donne.

When Lady Anne Delasaine catches his eye at a feast, Sir Reece impetuously follows her out to the hall, and is set upon by her devious half-brothers. Accused of accosting her, Reece finds himself wed to Anne and doubting her loyalties.
This was a bland story that I just raced through, hoping to finish it. It appears to want to take on certain romance cliches, but never quite makes it. Reece isn't an alpha hero, but neither is he sensitive. All the characters are painted very vaguely and don't have any deep characterizations at all, with the exception of Anne's evil half-brothers who fit every cliche. The romance itself was boring and unconvincing as well.

Ho iniziato a leggere questo libro senza grande entusiasmo. Amo il genere storico, ma non sempre il periodo medievale ha il potere di conquistarmi. Epoca barbara e piuttosto mortificante per le donne, pur offrendo grandi possibilità d'avventura, ma mi sono detta che non dovevo rinunciare alla lettura dopo poche pagine e così, pur non avendo grande entusiasmo per un protagonista come Reece Fitzroy, piuttosto timido con le donne e guidato più dall'ambizione che dall'amore, alla fine ho proseguito nella lettura.
La storia, che a onor del vero, ben rappresenta la condizione della donna intesa semplicemente come un oggetto da utilizzare per accordi politici ed interessi. Tutto inizia durante un banchetto a corte, dove Reece nota una dama biondissima e silenziosa, seduta a un tavolo. Contravvenendo alle regole del galateo, e alle sue stesse abitudini, la segue nei corridoi per rivolgerle la parola. A sorprenderli sono i terribili fratelli di lei, Damon e Benedict Delasaine, che aggrediscono il cavaliere e poi diffondono la voce che ha attentato all'onore della loro sorella, Anne.
Il Re, per sedare gli animi, in quanto i Delasaine sono imparentati con Eleonora, la regina, mentre i Fitzroy sono a lui fedeli, decide di far sposare i due giovani. Anne accetta il suo destino quasi felice, perché così si potrà sottrarre dalle violenze dei fratelli e potrà indurre il padre di Reece, famoso cavaliere, ad addestrare Piers il suo fratellino più piccolo, sottraendolo all'influenza dei suoi fratellastri.
A non accogliere bene la decisione del Re è Reece, che sa che un matrimonio con una Delasaine potrebbe compromettere la sua carriera a corte. Deciso a non consumare il matrimonio, anche se l'attrazione che prova per la giovane sposa è piuttosto forte, il suo seguito parte per fare ritorno al suo castello.
Il viaggio e poi il soggiorno tra le mura confortevoli di casa porteranno i due sempre più vicino fino al punto in cui Reece dovrà scegliere se conta di più la felicità accanto alla donna che ama o le ambizioni politiche.
Peccato che i fratelli di Anne sono decisi a sfruttare il legame matrimoniale per interessi politici, convinti di poter fare leva sulla sorella e soprattutto sul suo amore nei confronti del giovane Reece.
Interessante, comunque, la presenza anche di scena con altri personaggi che almeno cercano di smorzare la presenza ossessiva dei due protagonisti. Per il resto siamo di fronte alla solita scrittura carente di particolari, quasi scarna di ambientazioni dove potremmo essere in Inghilterra come in qualsiasi angolo di mondo, se non fosse per i riferimenti storici, alquanto diluiti anche questi.

I am not familiar with Moore's books (tho I see she has written several & would give more a try), and I couldn't help but wonder if the Harlequin wordcount throttled her ability to structure a deeper & more ranging plot.
A lot of the conflict and hinged on matters that wound up getting resolved in a very abbreviated kitchen sink ending, and that let the whole rest of the book down.
I enjoyed the concept of a hero who was awkward with women but that wasn't really explored. It was said, ergo we are to believe it, but there was neither much going into it -or- another good avenue, much made of her ability to simply /get/ him and no awkwardness without his need to dramatically change.
The heroine was fine, not too fiery but not a pushover. Tho I think her ladies maid was given more personality moments than she was.
Decent elements, didn't quite gel for me.

Esse é um livro que entusiasma no início, mas deixa a bola cair...
Anne, a mocinha, parece ser alguém matreira nos primeiros capítulos, deixando antever uma malícia inexistente nas outras heroínas de Margaret Moore. Porém, ao ser obrigada a se casar com sir Reece, isso logo se perde voltando a cair na típica ele-me-ama-ele-não-me-ama.
Reece também é um caso a parte. Ele não é nem o pacote completo do guerreiro (dominador, valente, etc), nem o sujeito sensível. Na verdade, ele é descrito de uma maneira tão vaga, que fica parecendo que a autora estava ainda tentando encontrar uma personalidade pra ele.
Desapontador.

this book as alright. i just wish it was longer in someway shorter in. i also wish the hero and heroine talked more to each other. it was nice to see the hero and heroine from book 2 again. along with to head the names of other characters from the past. well one more in the series to go.

Finally found the next two volumes of the warrior series online! These are romance comfort food for me and I love the interconnected stories.

I like Margaret Moore. I've always liked her books, never a disappointment.
