In book one of Love by the Yard: In Chicago they say Speed Kills, or at least they have for the last seven years since the handsome running back, Jerome Speed, led the Chicago Grizzlies to divisional and conference championships.

Danika Albright’s privileged upbringing has most people believing she wants for nothing. As the daughter of a self-made billionaire she shouldn’t, but her father never wanted his children to be spoiled and demanded they make their own way with little to no help from him. While working her way through school as a stylist, she crosses paths with a local football star with his own issues.

The pair work to keep their desires from molding their relationship, but when a paternity case tackles the star and the woman wants more than money, the relationship takes a hit.

Can Danika and Jerome look past what they know and take the time to discover what really happens when you fall in love with a person—one who wants you and not just your name?

Two people—two different backgrounds—one goal—to learn to love one yard at a time.

First and Ten by Michel Prince
Love by the Yard series #1. Contemporary sports related romance. Diverse.
Running back Jerome Speed has helped lead the Chicago Grizzlies to divisional and conference championships the last seven years. Per team rules, when traveling or attending promotional events, he needs to dress to impress. When shopping for a new suit, two stylists clash and Rome is impressed how Danika Albright is able to find the exact jacket, shirt and tie to make him look his best. When they meet again coincidentally, he doesn’t let the opportunity pass him by and he asks her on a date. She’s busy but he has the money to make the short time together special. They visit a few of Chicago’s best sites and then take it further meeting additional family.
Two people, two different backgrounds with one goal: learning to love one yard at a time.

Additional family made for complications. She’s working and going to school and still living at home with expectations there. He’s trying to get custody of his three year old son but the mother apparently has some issues that need to be resolved. Dating isn’t alway just between two people.
High powered romance with steam as their relationship progresses. Family dynamics all around when they can’t be alone or have other responsibilities. Sentimentality piled on for good romance.
Loved it. Since I’m also from Chicago, I had fun comparing my experiences with the Chicago sites they visited. Mine were of the cheap variety though I was envious of being able to buy out the whole tour boat for just the two of them.

I am not a huge sports romance fan. However, I loved Rome and Dani’s story. In todays world people often have situations to overcome to day someone would need. This was a great story. Enjoyed the characters.

I didn’t think I was a sports romance gal. As a sports spectator enthusiast I just felt it would fall flat for me. This book did not.

Jerome “Rome” Speed and Danika “Dani” Albright give us a glimpse into the world of a pro-Athlete complete with the relationship insecurities that arise from having a lot of money and the world’s obsession with speculating on their every move in their private lives.

Rome is able to trust Dani somewhat thanks to her family background. Dani has a father obsessed with her making her own way so she is focused and determined which helps the relationship develop at a reasonable pace in the emotional aspect.

I felt that these character, while living vastly different lives than me, were relatable and well-developed. I genuinely liked both of them and wanted all to workout.

I will read more in this series!!

Football and Love

I so enjoyed Rome and Dani's love story. It had a lot twists and unexpected surprises. Rome had a life full of madness and drama. Their tale was one of highs, lows and misunderstandings mixed in with crazy family members and great friendships.

Michel Prince gave us an amazing and well written story. I recommend it for all.

First and Ten (Love by the Yard Book #1) by Michel Prince
I was given a code for the audio book by the author for an honest review.
I have too stay I really enjoy the narrator for this story. Michel has Logan narrate her Tattoo series called The Permanent Hangover. I truly do enjoy his voice and the variations he can make for the different characters he voices. There are times his voice is like melted butter ladies *wink wink*. It was a great listen.
Ok if you haven’t read anything by Michel lemme tell ya, she writes some hard topics. She doesn’t sugar coat them and she can make things a bit uncomfortable, but she is always respectful and truthful to the story. This story does hit the topic of mental health issues for one of the side characters. Her raw, gritty, TRUTH is something I actually look forward too.
This is the story about socialite Dani whose father is the rich IT Genius in Chicago. She portrays the life of privilege which she HAS but doesn’t have. Confusing right? Her dad informs you he is rich, but she isn’t. She has to chip in on the family’s weekly groceries, so she doesn’t take anything for granted. Dani has a great career as a stylist for some of the football’s players of the NFL Team. She is stunned stupid when she meets Rome getting fitted and not se well by her nemesis.
Rome sees Dani and thinks she is going to be another rich, spoiled, socialist but is shocked when she doesn’t know who he is. HIM!!! She doesn’t know Jerome Speed??? WHAT!! After a brief and intriguing meeting, he needs to know more about her. The two bumps into each other when Dani was taking her “Tuesday Treat” day and hang out. Rome is stunned she isn’t throwing herself at him and actually tends to dismiss him at times. Who is this woman!!!?? Does she not know who he is and what his reputation is????
Rome and Dani start to spend time together when the paparazzi, his custody battle, her families not so happy reaction to her being in the gossip rag, annnnnnd a psycho baby momma cause so much trouble for this two. They have an amazing chemistry, and nothing seems to stop them for being together. I loved the story and the resolution of the drama between the side characters and the main character. I am very excited for the next book because Dalton was a GREAT Beta to Rome’s alpha in this book.

Great sports romance!

I really enjoyed this story. For me it started a little sketchy, but it very quickly turned on me and I got sucked in. I loved the chemistry between the characters. And who doesn’t love a romance with a single dad and a crazy ex girlfriend? lol. Plenty of family drama as well as some sexy times.
The narration was fantastic.
This is book one with an HEA and can be read as a standalone. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
I recommend this book!

Jerome is a football player trying to get custody of his son. However, the ex is making it extremely hard. Danika (Dana), is a free spirit whose family is wealthy but requires their children to make their own way in the world. I enjoyed the give and take, the humor, the family dynamics that put Jerome and Dana at cross purposes. Towards the end we find out that the ex has mental health issues that explains a lot.
I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Jerome (Rome) and Danika (Dani) meet while she is working. He is instantly smitten with her and she is attracted to him as well but has a very full schedule but she keeps her Tuesdays free for down time. She starts to share her Tuesdays with Rome and they grow closer. Life and a troublesome ex-girl friend make taking the relationship forward challenging. It is a nice story of dealing with responsibilities. Looking forward to the next story.

Loved this book

Never thought I would laugh so hard at a dinner discussion when they start talking about which street is better for the John and the mom was not impressed with the humor. Awesome! The book is a great mix of romance, sports, humor, and the business world. And I can just imagine some of the research that went into this.
