"The Secret of the Snow Leopard" is a captivating tale about the adventure of a young boy from the little village in Doplo, the remote highlands of Nepal. Accompanied by his uncle, the village healer, Tsering sets off to the monastery in hopes of healing Tondrup who is dangerously ill. On their journey they come upon the mountain pass where Tsering's father died, and in a moment of sad anger, Tsering sets off up the path, unlike his father however, defeating the snow leopard and safely making it up the pass. Together, the travels return and are welcomed home with a joyous celebration. This book beautifully depicts Himalayan culture in a truthful, intriguing, and non-stereotypical way. Through the stunning, traditional artwork, and the authenticity of the story, Tenzing Norbu Lama creates a wonderful portal for children to see into the Himalayan culture. I would definitely recommend this book and think that children will love reading this fantasizing tale.

Surpassing Tenzing’s earlier Himalaya in cohesiveness and narrative flow, this book brings the illustrations into more contributing balance with the other elements to tell the story of young Tsering exercising confidence and leadership, although not in the Western way.
