Dancing in the Rain. A memoir

Rate this book
When Maggie Silk was ten years old, she knew exactly she wanted to do with her life: to become a teacher, to travel, to marry a man in uniform and to have four children. She achieved all this and so much, much more....
Who would have believed that the little four year old girl with a mucky dress, found wandering alone and taken home by an American serviceman, would, four decades later, recieve a standing ovation from the rotary club in Standford Springs, Connecticut?
Or that the same girl who'd balanced eight pints of beer in a fish basket on the handlebars of her bike would one day take tea and scones with a bishop and an ambassador at the British embassy in Tokyo?
Or that the barefoot child who ran ponies for sixpence on the nsd every summer would be in the opera inBerlin the night when president Kennedy was assassinated?
Maggie worked on three continents and has lived in twenty different homes. She is not "an average housewife" - even with four children! Set in Berlin, Singapore, America, Latvia and Switzerland, her true story gives an affectionate and funny account of the mishaps, faux pas and adventures of a schoolteacher.

Really enjoyed this book, my daughter bought it from the authors daughter. It is the memoir of her life as a wife mum schoolteacher and traveller of the world. In the beginning the childhood reminiscing tended to skip quite erratically from one theme to another but as Maggie grows up and the memories become clearer the book really takes off. She definately lives a very full life and has travelled across the USA as an exchange teacher, worked in a variety of school setting and lived on many continents. It is a very interesting read.
