Someone is targeting Dougie, the owner of the local pool hall. His employee, Max Deacon, shrugs it off. That is, until Dougie is beaten so badly he ends up in the hospital. Max knows something fishy is going on with his cagey employer.

This is the second book in Darren Musial's Max Deacon series and the characters are just as realistic and intriguing, and the writing is tighter.
I love the terse character-appropriate dialogue with concise razor-sharp inner monologue narration. Engaging and well-paced, it is a fun read.
