Morale is low in Recce Platoon, lower than it's ever been. The Platoon Commander and his men are missing in action, Yulia is a prisoner of the Presidential Guard, and a bloodthirsty horde of Militia threatens to overwhelm the scattered remnants of the FEA at any moment. Andy Moralee and his men have failed their mission- spectacularly- but just when it seems that nothing could get any worse, the conflict in the Bosque reaches a new low. As Union and Alliance warships threaten to unleash their bombs at any moment, and unseen enemies lurk within the shadows, a new weapon is brought to bear- the civilian population itself.
Taunted by the faintest glimmer of hope and tormented by the nightmares that plague his sleep, Andy Moralee must do what he can to hold his battered section together, and have his revenge. War is looming…
An incredible set of books, these five were gripping, horrific, and explain so much that us civilians can never grasp. The last in the five, I was expecting the tone and pace to slacken somewhat, but like the first four it was difficult to find a place to put it down. Andy is once again suffering from his actions but managing to continue to operate at some level. He is a character that rivals Jack Reacher and Eve Dallas in interest and involvement with the reader, and I wish Mr. Richards would continue writing books with Andy as the central character, building up a whole world of characters that we can identify with and a universe to revisit as often as possible. Andy is still young after all.

Review:
It is hard to represent the horrors of war as well as Phillip Richard has done while still writing a gripping novel. Lance Corporal Andy Moralee’s RECCE platoon is fighting against an evil foe while trying to hold what’s left of their moral and their humanity together. The Militia have captured their boss and Yulia (a former Presidential Guard who has no more stomach for the Guard). Their mission has failed so spectacularly that their military and that of another colonial power are stepping in. However, the RECCE platoon’s troubles are far from over. As they search for their missing comrades across the planet Eden, the book draws the reader into small unit battles and the dreadful necessities of war and the toll it takes on the soldiers’ bodies and minds.
Enjoyed the book and it really wrapped up the story well and had some nice plot twist. It is full of the combat and action that really drive Mr Richard's works. I really enjoy the feeling of authenticity that comes across in the series. Mr Richard's own experiences truly give the series a feel that is unique.
The series keeps getting better. Andy Moralee is right in the thick of things and trying to make some sense out of a messy situation. Events on Eden take a dramatic turn, which throws a new light on the platoon's operation. At least Yulia is at hand for a little support... but who is she really working for? I didn't get much done today because Mr Richards had me reading into the early hours. Grrr.
This author is one of the best futures, small unit Sci-Fi war authors Ive read. If you accept the setting, everything is well written, flows together, and forms a fantastic character driven Point of View story.
