So kudos to moi for making it through this one, because there were a few times I wanted to DNF.
Which sucks because this book actually had a lot to offer.
It just kept getting in the way of itself.
The H and h had a LOT of chemistry which is always nice.
HOWEVER.
I have a hard time believing that a woman - who apparently did not know werewolves existed and then saw a large group of grown ass men shift into wolves in front her - and then got told she too is actually a wolf?
I have a hard time believing that woman is just going to gloss right over that and focus instead on the behavior of her new bodyguard that she wants to bang.
Speaking of banging.
Holy blue balls, folks.
These two yahoos make out and fondle each other at every inappropriate opportunity, but when it comes time to ACTUALLY get busy?
90%, people.
You have to wait until 90%.
I cannot work under these conditions.
Anycockblock, being that the first in a series usually has problems like these - what with building the "foundation" and all - I might still try book two in this series.
If only to get to Barrett's book.

Fantastic bodyguard shifter romance... 4.5 stars!
This book had two of my favorite tropes wonderfully blended into a brilliant novel I didn't want to stop reading. The angst, longing, and sexual tension in this story was top-notch, and I absolutely loved every word of this book. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this novel by Jodi, and I will definitely read more by her ♡

It's a long while since I last read a really good shifter book so after reading the blurb and reviews I thought I'd give this a try and it turned out to be an entertaining read.
Damon Trahan is a Werewolf Guardian, all he wants is to do his job well and belong to a pack.
He's on a mission when an urgent call comes through, a female werewolf has been kidnapped and he's to rescue her at all costs.
Ava Renfroe is the female in question, she's been drugged and kidnapped and thinks she's hallucinating when she sees men change into wolves. She's twenty-four, has never shifted and has no idea she's a wolf.
There's some great characters here, Damon, Ava, Jayden, Jeff but especially Granny she's hilarious.
On the whole this is a good book, it's a bit abrupt in places and I got a little fed up of all the 'I'm not worthy' but there was only one part I really didn't understand and I'm putting it as a spoiler.

Damon and Ava
Damon is a Guardian with the Arkansas wolf pack. When Ava is kidnapped by the red wolves, Damon goes to her rescue. We later find out Ava is of royal lineage. According to pack law, she is suppose to mate with a male of royal lineage. In this instance that royal male would be the Pack Master, Barrett. Ava wants only Damon for her mate. Damon is an orphan and therefore unqualified to be her mate. This doesn't stop them from wanting each other. Will Ava and Damon be able to resist each other? Are the red wolves threat to Ava and other female werewolves resolved?
This was a good read, but not the best. There were times when I wanted to smack both Damon and Ava. The angst between them was a bit repetitive. The plot was simple and the subplots all tied up nicely. I liked the ending. There is explicit sex and adult language in this novel.

I'm always a bit afraid to start a book that I had high hopes for, but I was not disappointed in this one! This is an enjoyable start to a series. Full review to come.
I will be reading this one as soon as I can! I'm from Arkansas so a story with sexy shifters set in Arkansas? HELL YEAH!

First of all for a werewolf story there’s not much shifting happening, even if the characters growl a lot. Then the universe isn’t really explained: why are the red wolves almost extinct, why does every other wolf hate them, etc.
Plus I didn’t really like the heroine, she didn’t seem real. She’s been kidnapped and almost raped, she’s seen men change into wolves, and learned she’s a wolf too, but all she can think about is having sex with the hero. She’s a little too selfish at times, and she doesn’t listen to what the hero says about her security, and when she’s said to stay somewhere safe, instead she rushes in “to help” and almost get caught again.
There are some points that are not explained enough in the end, like why her father blocked her change for so long, and how and where the other kidnapped girl was recovered, as if the author had a limit of pages she couldn’t go over.

This is the first time I've read Ms.Vaughn's work, & let me tell you I was drawn in from the start. I love finding new authors to read becuase the expectation isn't there & they usually just WOW you with their work.... Jodi Vaughn DEFINITELY WOW'd me!! I started this book at midnight & finished it just after 4.30am (I need to stop doing this to myself), can anyone say 'BOOK HANGOVER'?? It was soooo worth it though.
This book is filled with secrets, motorbikes, werewolves, sexual tension & action.... what more could you need?? Along side all this, Jodi has woven in her characters with such details, personalities & backgrounds that you NEED to read to find out what will happen.
Bring on book 2 of this series, cause one book isn't enough.

3 By the Light of the Moon Stars
I enjoyed the book but it wasn’t very memorable. And I say that because I finished it a few days ago and all I can tell you was that they fought their attraction to each other. But in the end they got their HEA.
I know that’s terrible of me but it’ true. Nothing major happened that I can’t get out of my head. And it kind of felt like all the other shifter kinds of books.
That’s to say I don’t like them because I do I just, I guess I wanted something more to happen.
I like the narration just fine.

Also die Geschichte war okay. Für zwischendurch eine leichte, prickelnde Story. Es war nett, aber ich hatte schon spannendere Wolfswandler.
Der Prolog hat mich im Nachhinein enttäuscht, da das Geschehene dort null Thema mehr war. Es gab kein Erkennen, somit hätte man sich die zwei Höhepunkte auch sparen können.
Die Charaktere fand ich angenehm. Granny hat mir hier am besten gefallen.
Es gab spannende Passagen, aber auch völlig unlogische und vorhersehbare.
Das Thema, mit den Wächtern und ihren Aufgaben war wirklich sehr interessant. Das hätte man ruhig vertiefen können.
Hier steht die Anziehung der beiden im Vordergrund, wobei es bei Ava noch eine Nummer interessanter ist. Warum? Das verrate ich natürlich nicht.
Außerdem war ab und an die Übersetzung etwas holprig.
Zusammenfassend kann ich sagen, dass mir die Geschichte nicht im Gedächtnis bleiben wird. Sie konnte mich nicht fesseln, noch sonst irgendwie abholen.

This was a pretty good story. I really liked Ava and Damon and their story was enjoyable. I've always liked both bikers and shifters so I was pleased to find a book that combined both of these in a good story. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked it well enough that I'd consider reading more of her work in the future.
Ava is a young woman that's very independent. Ava was adopted and her adopted father didn't tell her about her heritage as a rare pure blood wolf shifter...one of the few female shifters. Ava hasn't shifted yet and doesn't know anything about who she really is. Her father is a general and she grew up knowing that she wanted a man that wasn't an alpha male that would try to boss her around.
Damon is a wolf shifter and a guardian (aka enforcer) for the Arkansas wolf pack. He used to live in Louisiana but left after a gold digging girlfriend almost got him killed. He moved to Arkansas and has been doing his best to keep his head down and concentrate on doing his job for the pack.
Ava is kidnapped from her home by some rogue shifters. Female wolf shifters are rare and breed infrequently (they only go into heat once every 2 years) so shifter babies aren't prevalent. The rogue shifters decide they want to kidnap some females to give them a drug that will force them into heat and then gang rape her (a gang of over 40 shifters). They plan to keep her pregnant to breed her for years but it doesn't seem likely she'll live that long with the way she's going to be treated. Damon is nearby, working a different case for his pack leader when he gets a call about Ava being snatched. He's sent after her and rescues her before anything bad is done to her and then getting her someplace safe. Things are a bit difficult because they can't go home due to the rogue shifters causing issues so they have to go into hiding. The situation isn't helped by the fact that Ava doesn't know anything about shifters and doesn't want to believe it's true. I have to admit that when Damon proved the shifter thing to her, she took the news pretty well.
Damon and Ava have an instant and strong attraction to each other. Damon is used to women being fearful of him and Ava isn't, instead getting in his face and arguing with him when she disagrees with his actions (which Damon likes a lot more than he should). They want each other but their situation is complicated by the fact that Ava is a rare female shifter (and of a high rank) so there's no way Damon would be allowed to mate Ava. He tries to stress that he's not interested in anything with her but really it's that he knows he can't have anything with her. Since they're stuck together, Damon is constantly fighting his attraction to Ava and doesn't succeed very well at keeping his hands off of her. Ava is happy about this because she's wanted Damon from the beginning and not just for sex. The main issue becomes her status...which I don't really get. Female shifters are rare and shifters of Ava's bloodline are even more rare. Yet for some reason, Ava doesn't have any choice about who she mates and will be put to death if she doesn't marry who the pack leader says she's supposed to marry? Really?!?! TBH, that part didn't really make sense to me because if female shifters are so rare and the main shifter law is to protect females above all else why the hell would they kill her because she refused to mate a particular shifter? Obviously, this restriction causes a lot of issues between Damon and Ava. While they're dealing with their attraction and the fact that they're not supposed to be together, they try to keep Ava safe while searching for info on the kidnappers. There's some drama and some danger but things do work out and some last minute good news allows Damon and Ava to get their HEA after all.

Ava was a pretty cool heroine...while I didn't always agree with her actions she wasn't a TSTL heroine (thank goodness!) and I loved that she didn't back down from Damon. Damon was a bit bossy but it was mostly when he was trying to keep Ava safe. I thought he had the right balance of "you will do what I say" vs. "i have a weak spot for my woman". The story had some points where I had to suspend disbelief a bit but overall I thought it was a pretty good story. I'd recommend this story. :D

I liked this book. Read it in less than a day. The story moved fast so it kept me reading. However Because of the Sookie Stackhouse books it was weird to read about Shreveport and Baton Rouge etc re werewolves. I also thought that certain parts of the plot could have been described more too get a better rounded story rather than just the romantic relationship.
Saying that though I liked Ava and Damon, typical alphas and I enjoyed their banter and passion for each other.
Overall the book for me was a good escape for the day but I'm not sure I would read the next in the series.

I liked the first 50 pages and the short chapters. And the writing wasn’t horrible.
But I should have DNF this. I didn’t believe in the characters’ chemistry. The dialogue was, at times, random and more unnatural than usual. The third act felt rushed.
I found myself disliking the book the more I read.
But I should have DNF this. I didn’t believe in the characters’ chemistry. The dialogue was, at times, random and more unnatural than usual. The third act felt rushed.
I found myself disliking the book the more I read.

I've never been much for the wolf shifter stories, but dang I loved this book! It has a cast of hot, hot, hot men/wolves, a feisty, sassy heroine, a sex-toy selling granny and a great action packed storyline. I highly recommended it.

Sometimes I wish I didn’t get so caught up in these online reading challenges…then I can concentrate on reading books I’ve chosen because I want to read them, rather than ones that fulfil a specific element.
Gripe aside, this book reminded me throughout why I’ve always had a rather thorny relationship with Romance novels.
From start to finish this was brimful of macho posturing, weak attempts to write erotic scenes and a storyline so dull that I found myself wishing it was over from about quarter of the way through.
Our story, such as it was, focused on Ava. Unbeknown to her, Ava is a wolf. She’s kidnapped by rogue red wolves determined to rape and impregnate her so she can produce sires. Thankfully, Damon - a Wolf, but not one of the pack - rescues her. From the moment they meet their physical attraction was evident…hardly subtle about it as they were virtually jumping on each other at every available opportunity. When another girl is kidnapped they team up to track her down and save her.
And that’s it. Along with page after page of their smouldering tension. A ridiculous Granny figure who seemed to be there because it’s funny to have an older woman happy to talk frankly about sex offered some light relief. Beyond that, it was all about when they’d finally give in and have sex and how the other wolves would react. Still, it’s over now…and I’m not feeling the need to find out what happens next.

Hmmmm. This book was entertaining. But it left a lot of questions unanswered. Don't get me wrong, everything was wrapped up nicely. But some of the dramatic points in the book were just glossed over. Why the hell did the general keep Ava from changing for so long? If she was surrounded by people trying to protect her, keeping her ignorant make zero sense. He should have gotten more than just a slap on the wrist for keeping her in the dark. Also, why the hell didn't Damon's ex get her ass kicked? She was obviously a terrible person, so her continued existence made no sense. Since she tried to kill Damon, the least someone could have done was break her legs or something.
Overall, I did enjoy this one. The world building was kinda cool, and the h was sassy without being a bitch. I liked that.

Wildly sexy, emotionally twisting, action packed and dangerously entertaining paranormal romantic adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat, loungers or bed till the very end. Great start to what promises to be a wild adventure in this amazing shifter world.
Werewolf Guardian, Damon Trahan (love the idea of guardian shiftiers look foreword to more about them) is an extremely hot, fearlessly alpha male with a haunted past and understandable trust issues. Ava Renfroe is a strong, sassy, outspoken and completely unaware she is a werewolve until she is kidnapped by a group of rogue wolves and rescued by none other than Damon. Enjoyed every heart pounding, gut twisting turn in this roller-coaster ride. Looking forward to the next exciting adventure.

Left me howling for more!
A thoroughly enjoyable read. From the moment I picked the book up I had a hard time putting it down. The story was paced well and left me wanting more. The characters were fantastic and easy to root for. Damon was deliciously handsome and definitely had that alpha male attitude without coming across as a complete jerk. And Ava, wow, she was one of the most entertaining heroines to read. I loved her strength, sass and sexiness.
The story world was enjoyable and I can't wait to read more. There were some things that could've used more explanation and some questions that I had but overall the story was a howling good time.

This is the first book in the Rise of the Arkansas Werewolves series where we meet elete soldier and guardian of the pack, Damon. His mission is to rescue a kidnapped she wolf, Ava, from a pack of evil red wolves aiming to procreate. Unfortunately, keeping the beautiful, feisty female safe is easier said than done...when sparks fly between them and she doesn't even know she's a wolf. Great secondary characters, not least, is Granny, the sex party queen! Good storyline, needs proof reading, and actually quite tame for this genre.

This book has everything: humor, action and sex. I enjoyed the characters, especially Granny! I have not read anything by this author before and I'm not sure I will. I've recently realized that I have overdosed on paranormal romance and need to change my reading choices for a bit. I may read the next in the series when I am ready to come back to my normal reading 'list'. But overall, still a decent read!

The story was well-thought out and the setup for the series was well done. The author had the right amount of action, sexiness, and strong characters. The story, I would rate as a solid 4. The editing...oh the editing...that receives 2 stars or less. The editing left a great deal to be desired. Perhaps less noticeable in audio format, but actually reading it in ebook format was a bit ... painful. With solid editing, this story, and I'm sure the others in the series, will be amazing.

What a wonderful story. The characters Ava and Damon are great. No sissy girl here. And Damon is all Alpha. Jodi has out done herself. I can't wait for book two. If you haven't read this, What are you waiting for?? I highly recommend this book..

sexy one with two likable main characters. but holy shit they didn't seal the deal til easily 90% in. talk about chemistry and torture. a little deus ex machina that you see coming a million miles away but who cares? I likey.

Overall I enjoyed this story and the characters. However, there are a few plot issues that need cleaning up. That being said, I am interested in reading the next one.
