Like being stranded on a desert alien planet wasn't enough...

All I ever wanted was someone to love. Now my best friend is knocked up by the only hunky alien-dragon available and I can't tell anyone how totally jealous I am. The handful of humans who survived our ship's crash are locked in a struggle to live in sweltering heat with dwindling supplies.

The others are taking the life giving, addictive epis but if I take it that means I'm stuck here. Forever. Which also means the chance of being rescued by a knight in shining armor would be zero.

If that weren't enough, I go and get myself kidnapped and he's another big, sexy, alien-dragon warrior.

Dragon's Mate is a full length scifi novel with a happily ever after ending, plenty of steam, bloody battles and alien-human intrigue. It is standalone and co-written by newcomer Miranda Martin and one of the hottest science fiction romance authors out there, Juno Wells.

DRAGON'S MATE is a sequel to DRAGON'S BABY. You do not have to read both in order to understand the plot, but the story will be richer if you do!

Another good story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎💜❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😠☺️😋🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Jolie - she was a member of the research vessel that crashed on the desert planet and best friend to Calista from Dragon’s Baby. She had always wanted to find love and be swept off her feet by a handsome man, and was a bit jealous of her friend who got what she thought was the only available dragon on the planet.

The Hero: Sverre - He is a zmaj, a dragon on the planet Tajss. He has his own territory and doesn’t live in the same abandoned city as Ladon from Dragon’s Baby. He had initially argued that they should stay together, but each became territorial and the fight for treasure had separated them, so now each of them has their own territory. However, he crosses into Ladon’s territory because he wants to see what crashed on his planet.

The Story: The zmaj are kind of half dragon half human. They have dragon wings on their bodies but can’t really fly so much as float from high places or lift off the ground a bit. They also have scaled reptilian like skin and humanoid faces. They are adapted for the heat on the desert planet and are great hunters which is good because there are a lot of dangerous creatures on the planet.

Jolie is alone one day, trying to turn on the dome when she is attacked by creatures. She is knocked out when Sverre, who has been watching her, comes to her rescue. Jolie hadn’t yet taken any of the Epis which is a plant that grows on the planet and changes humans on a cellular level to be able to handle the desert environment. Though once changed, the human is addicted and can never leave the planet because they need the Epis. She still hoped to one day be rescued and wanted to leave.

This book was told in dual points of view by a dual narration. It and was narrated by Tristan James and Jillian Macie. Both are very good narrators and are great at displaying emotion through their voices. The story was quite different than the first one and there were new dangers on the planet, including some aliens that were once at war with the zmaj when their species was decimated.

No!

I really wanted to like these books, but, I have a lot of problems with some of the basics. First, the female character(s), not likable, and give new meaning to, too stupid to live. They are at the mercy of a dangerous planet, they have no self defense skills, and yet continue to make stupid choices that not only endanger their lives, but other lives too... Over, and over again! Gee, I have nothing to offer in way of protection skills, but I'm going to insist on going into danger with those that do. I know there are life forms more dangerous and terrible, that can and do kill those around me, but instead of staying safe, I'm gonna force my way into coming into contact with them, and even drawing them to me. When the man who is native to the planet, and skilled at surviving, is fighting for his life, I'm going to scream, yell and cry, drawing his attention away from his enemy, distracting him, so he can come close to being killed. Yeah, I'm not liking the female lead characters.
Then we have humans who have no idea what they are doing, but still manage to be rude, ignorant and prejudice against the native males.
Personally, I'm rooting for the deadly plants and animals to enjoy the human survivors, as snacks!

I have not been so happy to finally be done with a book in a long time. I found Jolie to be irrational and extremely over emotional (which didn't follow the base that was set for her in the first book or the fact that she is supposed to be a scientist). She spent almost half the book crying or being completely irrational. Sverre shows basic signs of being abusive, his outbursts of anger in which some of them he grabs her (not the sexy way) and gives presents or sweet caresses to show his sorry. Only to have another outburst later on. That's an abusive relationship. At least towards the end of the book Sverre was acting better, so I'm able to look past his actions but Jolie was a horrible read throughout the whole book. I mean really, Sverre gets hurt BAD(almost died). He is showing signs of healing and is still breathing but asleep. She spends two paragraphs crying about how thirty hours is to long for him to take to heal. Get real, he almost died a day ago and she's crying about him not being up and about.
I'll stop my rant. Sorry for going on to so long. In case you haven't already guessed in my opinion this book sucked. In fact it might have ruined the series for me, I'm still debating on if I will read the next book or not.

[for Series]
I’ve found a new crack obsession. My definition of crack is a crazy premise, an alien hero (different color and/or unusual appendages are a MUST), a tried and true romance formula and a fascinating ‘verse that captures my interest. Boy, has the Dragons of Tajss delivered. Does it have its flaws? Yep. Do I give a flying zemjla? Nope, not even a little bit.

A mishmash of different fantasy/sci-fi components that we’ve seen in shows from Dr. Who to Beetlejuice, this is a series that goes for some serious issues like xenophobia, racism, etc. and there’s danger everywhere, but it’s the details that tend to make me giggle. There’s a generation ship that is hurtling through space, minding its own business, when it is attacked by space pirates and crash lands on a planet called Tajss. Everything, and I mean everything, is designed to kill and/or eat you, not necessarily in that order. It’s hot AF so the human body is NOT designed to survive on this planet.

For example, there’s an ongoing debate between the Star Wars vs. Star Trek fans, Dr. Who references galore and a big worm-y thing that will kill you but all I could picture was this:
description

Basically, all the fixins for a cracky kind of sci-fi rom read. This will appeal to fans of the Ice Planet Barbarians-type of romances. If that’s your jam, get a taste of this Zmaj jelly. I think you’ll like it.

BOOK SPECIFIC Review:
Sverre and Jolie. Romance was just ok, a bit more repetitive than necessary but it’s another block in the backstory for the planet so I liked it.

Really liked this one too even though I did not like the MCs as much as the couple from the first book.

Still into the series!

I really like the idea behind this series. I don't love the characters so much, but part of that is I feel like we don't get to delve into more than their surface thoughts. Which is weird because we're in Jolie's head A LOT, but I just don't feel like I really got a handle on her as a character.

Like, she's supposed to be smart and she is supportive of Callie for the most part, but she's also kind of anti-social and, as a scientist, I felt like she should have understood the ramifications of not taking the epis better than she did. I mean, I guess she made it clear she was willing to risk things (aka, her life) for the chance to get off-planet eventually, but...she could literally chart the effect the planet was having on her and she still refused to take the stuff.

Plus, wandering off to check things ALONE on a dangerous planet doesn't seem like the smartest idea in the world.

Sverre, on the other hand, seems like an upstanding dude. Sure, sure, he made a few mistakes with Jolie and he's gripped by instinct more often than he wants to be, but he's a good guy under the snarling and growls. Plus, he has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to knowing how the city the humans have settled in runs.

Again, I like the series and I'll be continuing it, but I want a little more as far as the characters are concerned. Mainly the human characters. I can't quite pinpoint what I want for them, but something. SOMETHING.

This was ok. I liked it but not as much as the first book. That usually happens to me though with these kinds of series. I like the first couple and would prefer to follow their storyline instead of someone else's.

I also found Jolie to be a bit annoying at the beginning. She complains about her best friend's happiness so much and talks about her jealousy so much that it makes you question whether its Sverre that she loves or if she would have loved any old alien dragon man that came along because she was so desperate for it.

The book was very similar in concept to the first. They are surviving by themselves for a while and he is on a quest to get her epis. But the overall story does move along which was neat. You get to see how the group of humans are settling and how they are rebuilding the city by bits and pieces even if it is slow going. That was cool. And I may have been interested in reading the next book if it wasn't about Amara. She irritated me in both books, so I'm not even remotely interested in reading a whole book about her. The only reason I would be reading it would be to learn more about Calista and Ladon. I want to know what happens with her pregnancy. But I really don't want to read it through Amara's POV.

TITLE OF BOOK: DRAGON’S MATE: RED PLANET DRAGONS OF TAJSS
AUTHORS OF BOOK: JUNO WELLS AND MIRANDA MARTIN
DATE READ: MARCH 6, 2017 – MARCH 7, 2017

HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAGONS AND GET READY FOR A WALK THROUGH THE DESERT OF TAJSS!!!!

This is the second book in the Red Planet Dragons of Tajass series by Miranda Martin and Juno Wells. I didn’t get to read this book as an ARC so I had to buy it. Which I didn’t mind because I love this series and Miranda Martin and Juno Wells are very good writers/authors. I look for several different things when reading a book, and so far, these two authors have not let me down. “Dragon’s Mate” contains everything I look for when reading a book. It has a hunk on the cover to make your mouth water (and other places too), it has characters that work with the storyline, secondary characters that help the storyline unfold, the content of the storyline captures your attention and holds it till the end of the book, villains that you cannot forget yet you want to beat the crap out of them or kill them yourself, and cannot forget either the panty melting life altering SEX!!! Anything else just makes the story better in my opinion. A book you do not want to miss.

Jolie like the other humans didn’t like be stranded on a planet that was nothing but desert, but she also wanted was someone to love even if it meant loving a hunky alien dragon. But the only dragon was taken by her befriend. To make matters even worse they are all struggling to survive the extreme heat with a small amount supplies that is being used and not replaced. The planet has a plant that is called epis which is giving them the ability to survive the planets horrible conditions. The only downfall is that it is addictive. Feeling down and wanting to help she decides to leave the compound to check out a metal box that could possible way to turn the power on to the city they are living in. Now she alone with no one to help her, and she has been kidnapped by another alien dragon.

Sverre is living in exile saw the fire in the sky when the spaceship crashed. He was making his way to see what it was when he saw the humans being led to the city by a dragon shifter like himself. Knowing he shouldn’t barge in on the other’s city he watches and spots Jolie when he decides she is the one for him. But is unsure how to get her when he believes she now belongs to the other dragon. As luck, would have it he sees her leave the city alone, but he watches her for fear of a plot to lure him out to the open. Then she is attacked by critters on the planet and he rescues her and takes her to his home which is away from the other dragon’s territory. He wants her, and he wants to mate her, but the language barrier doesn’t help. So, he decides to the best way is to find a way to communicate with her and then win her over.

No spoilers.

Continuing with this series it focuses on the character I've been hoping to see get her happily ever after. Sverre is a perfect match for her. He's level-headed and cares for her the moment they meet.

It was interesting to see Landon and Sverre interact because of their dominant nature. However, watching them learn how to navigate each other and fall into their previous positions.

These stories are easy to read, sensual, and heartwarming. I can't wait to see how this series continues to grow and develop. As they navigate the new world.

Awesome series for any dragon-lover and sci-fi fangirl.

This planet is not an enjoyable setting at all, but I like how it brings all these couples together in the fight for survival and love. Jolie is an interesting character because her personality is happy and hopeful. No matter what, she's pretty chipper. She makes it easy for the reader to be in her head. That being said, some things didn't make too much sense, like:
1: Why would Jolie go by herself to check on some box outside the city when she's no engineer?
2. How could she have survived that long out there without epis?
It didn't detract too much from the story, but since Star Trek is mentioned, they were pretty logical so stuff needs to be reasonable here. I felt the language barrier was a repeat of the first book, and I was glad Sverre changed things up a bit by using objects to model what he was wanting her to do. The revelation of who he is and why the dragon guys behave the way they do was well written. I liked Sverre's sense of duty and his leadership qualities. He's a strong alpha male, but he's also a thinking guy, which will be a great asset to the dragon-guy community as he will be needed to explain sh*t and calm them all down. I'm so happy to have found these books and their authors, I can't wait for more!

So second time round was about as same as the first

So I thought the author had made a serious mess up on her timeline in the preview I read at the end of book one for this book but turns out I was wrong so anyways this book was pretty much the same as the first Jolie gets saved by the alien man who is infatuated with her and they end up falling in love and getting pregnant...I found myself skimming through a good bit of the book reading only the parts where they were actually talking because I mean it was pretty much same exact stuff from first book so I didn't really feel like I was missing out on any thing important but oh well they've got their protective shields up around the city and they just welcomed 2 more aliens into the city next story is about Amara I'm hoping this one will be different what the heck i don't have anything else better to read right now so why not? LoL

I had an issue with the timeline that was supposed to be in place in this one. Based upon what's written they're together only a couple days before going back to the city which again seems to take longer returning to than leaving as they got to his home while she was unconscious but it takes a day and a half to get back... Going to read the next one since it is an interesting story overall.

Dragon's Mate: A Scifi Alien Romance
Red Planet Dragons of Tajss Book 2
by Miranda Martin , Juno Wells
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️
What a beautiful story! It's the second book in this series. This is a electrifying story it's full of intrigue and surprises. It's a great read, fast-paced, romantic, full of passion, very heartfelt a Sci-fi romance that's steamy hot. WOW It's well written with great characters. The story is full of action, mystery, adventure, battles, fighting, danger, kidnapping, suspense, humor, villains, jealousy, anger, drama, romance, and love. What can I say it pulled me in from the beginning and held my attention until the very end. I really enjoyed the twists in this story, There are a few times my heart caught at the thought of Jolie. Jolie is one of the human's from the crashed ship and is a sweet, caring, and all is really wants is a knight in shiny armor. Is this to much to ask for? Her best friend is pregnant with a dragon/human baby and she is jealous. All she wants is for someone to look and care for her like her best friend's mate. Severre who is dominant, sexy, extremely handsome alien warrior Dragon shifter that lives in a self-imposed isolation and it is one he doesn't deserve to be in. He is a very honorable and something he won't ever take credit. While flying in his dragon form, he hears the voice of an angel and he just knew that he had to have her, treasure, and keep her forever. It seems this Angel is his mate and he'll do anything for this female he is instantly infatuated with her. In his community of dragons. Of course there are traditions to follow. Sverre is determined to be with his fated mate. Jolie is a human who wants to be sweep off her feet by a big sexy alien dragon shifter. Sverre doesn't feel he deserve a mate. There are bumps in the road and curves you never would have expected. Even when you know how the story will end.Miranda Martin and Juno Wells makes this story and the bumps fun, romantic, sexy, exciting, wrought with difficulties and tears. But the ending is fantastic as you wish for any Sci-Fi romance to be. This is a heartwarming, sexy, emotional, beautifully romantic, and definitely strong enough to be a standalone and I really enjoyed it! The humans from the crashed ship are still stranded in Ladon's City of Tajss and making the best of surviving. While the other half of the humans are rebelling against almost every decision that is made.Thank you ladies, for another wonderful story that's even more thrilling and captivating than the last! Buy this book because You will want to read this great book and read more about Jolie and Sverre and hang on! This is a story more than worth it!

This is the second book in the series, and yes you can read them alone but I highly recommend you start off with the book one. After their generation ship was crash landed on an alien planet, not really a good planet for humans. It made the heat of earth look like winter, and survival was most important. The ship held thousands and broke apart when it crashed. Now we have survival, and we have met an alien who calls this hell home. Jolie as a scientist and a botanist, it was her job to help find alien plant life that would help support them, all Julie ever wanted was to find love and have a family, and now her best friend Calista not only has found love with an alien but is also pregnant. And what does Julie get, she gets kidnapped. Sverre is used to being alone, but after seeing the big light fall from the sky he had to investigate. After the planet was decimated for its main resource the last remaining of his kind (who were all males) had to split up. They discovered they would resort to back to their dangerous alpha behavior, and it was best to separate across the planet. The one thing Sverre did not plan on finding was his treasure, he knew the minute he set his eyes on Julie she was his. She was out alone and was in trouble. Really good book, the author did a fantastic job of figuring out the language barrier, and the description of the planet is amazing. Each book will follow a couple and how they come together, but there is so much going on behind the scenes. Hostilities from some of the humans who don’t think mixing with the aliens is a good idea, Figuring out how they were going to survive if they can’t figure out how to grow food, also being dependent on a very difficult to get it plant they need to survive.

ok

Sverre is a jima an alien who sees the human Joliee in trouble outside the city that belongs to Ladon. Joliee has a carefree personality who doesn't seem too think before she acts. But she knows that the city which has crumbled due too the Devestation event that she and the other human survivors don't understand but she's sneaking out of the city limits because she wants too fix the power but the heat and dehydration is too much for the humans unprotected for long. So Joliee is in trouble and kicks herself for going out and not letting the others know. But then she's attacked by flying creatures and she's helpless. however Sverre the large winged dragon who's been watching her and planned too snatch her for himself so that he would have his own treasure runs too her side too help save her he does but Joliee is in trouble from the sun and heat had dropped over so Sverre is going too take her to his home where he has too live alone away from other Emjia. this is a long and dangerous journey.

I really like the character of Sverre strong quiet smart and risks much for Joliee .
I'm not too impressed by Joliees character who's flighty and doesn't seem to care about the dangers and risks that are everywhere, she seems only interested in her sexual desires.

but it gets better towards the end

Fantastic story, but has editing issues.

First off, this is a fantastic story, despite not being as spicy as the last. Jolie is one of my favorite chracters and her personality with her grumpy guy is just fantastic. Buuut, I had a few issues with this book:
1. Jolie lied. She promised kinky and what she did was NOT kinky, lol.
2. There were some things said in the last book that didn't match up with this book. In book 1, Jolie was missing right after Calista told Ladon the big news. In the 2nd book, she went missing the day after.
In the first book Jolie had a heart to heart about why she hadn't taken the Epis, but in book 2, she asked their group of friends to not tell her she wasn't taking it (even though it would be obvious anyways.)
In book 1 The Counsil was formed before Jolie left, in book 2 it was formed while she was gone.
That's all I noticed of things that clashed with the other book.
3. Calista was "showing" too early, especially if the dragons' gestation period is longer. Most women don't show 'til at least their 4th month, and not very big bumps. It made her aound like she was 6-8 months along.
4. In their last intimate scene, they were magically all over the place without the writing saying they were to changing positions.

It was a wee big confusing, this book, but still a lovely story.

Jolie in this book is not a lot like the Jolie I expected to read from the first one, which was disappointing because I was looking forward to reading her story. I envisioned her as a kind of Bernadette character from the Big Bang series, you know? She’s a scientist, so I expected logical thinking, even about emotional topics. She was fun in the first book, in this one, she talks incessantly, does irrational things, is hung up on being rescued by a prince, and just basically, like, her original character from book one was replaced by this silly, needy girl. Sverre was a new character, so we get to take him as he develops, and you do see the growth in him. From the end of the middle to the end of the book, it does improve, gets more exciting and easier to get through, but I had to force myself to get through more than half before I saw the point. I read this when it first came out, but I’m redoing it, using Audible on my commute to avoid political stupidity on the radio. I’m enjoying the two narrators for these first few books, they bring emotion to the words and help me with the pronunciation that I’m just now realizing that I had all wrong, lol. I’ll continue with my revisiting the series via audible, it’s a 90 minute commute one way, and we won’t get to vote for a while anyway, lol.

Jolie and Severre

This fantastic world of dry heat, terrible beasts and two suns is slowly killing Jolie. Epis will save her but she'd be stuck on this planet for the rest of her life. She's not sure she wants to accept a life here and give up on a rescue.

Jolie decides she will help get the ancient shield for the city working, against orders she leaves the city to see if she can find the relay that doesn't seem to be working. Severre sees her and wants her but knows he doesn't deserve her. He feels guilty that he is responsible for the devastation of his world. When Jolie collapses in the sand Severre knows it is his responsibility to save and protect her.

Their meeting is just as difficult as you'd imagine since they can't communicate and Severre is still under the haze of aggression that all his kind descended into after the destruction of all society. Although he still realizes he has this problem to deal with he wants Jolie and will fight this haze because she needs him.

I am enjoying this world.

not what I expected

I had different idea of how this story couple would unfold.
Frankly I felt like the author changed or strayed from her outline.
Wished his access caused work robots, drones, other things to help them survive and thrive wake up. Makes no sense that he can wake up some tech for some, but where is the sewage, water, and crystals that seem to make things energized? And where is the advance medical tech. They had to have had some rooms, scanners. I just get stuck on details.
Again I was frustrated on how incompetent the humans seemed. They could not make indoor climbing walls of veg? Or find salt (or make it from condensation, same for water) other items to replace what makes them dehydrated, etc. they act like their info is from Stone Age.

Modern scientist would have been able to make do. Think of how NASA is planning to try to Terraform Mars, other planets for humans.

Besides this I though the couple were good. Wish the author would not have them jump eachother so soon. But glad they did not “love” eachother right away.

We pick up where we left off with Jolie missing. We get to find out where she has gone. Sverre has been following Jolie since they landed. He thinks that Ladon is keeping them all for himself but that isn’t true. And when Jo ventures out to find something for Amara, she ends up getting attacked. He too rescues her, like Ladon did for Calista. But he doesn’t live in the city and then end up farther away in a cave. Lots of trying to understand each other. That is always the biggest issues. Eventually that is fixed but it was driving me crazy.

The fact that Sverre is trying to let Jo lead and not push anything intimate is sweet. But when he blows up at her, you can understand why she keeps a bit of distance. Eventually things move along. Jo and he finally connect and actually go back to the city. But we also have an issue with the human’s. Gorsham, I don’t know why he is still in the city. Just get rid of all the evil and let them fend for themselves. But that isn’t the way. UGH!

Jolie is jealous that her best friend is together with a hot alien dragon-man and so is depressed. Others are taking the life-giving epis but it is addictive and if I start to take it she is stuck there on that planet. So I am stuck coping with the sweltering heat trying to live on the dwindling supplies. Then she is kidnapped by and then rescued by another big sexy alien dragon-man called Sverre and she starts to get her wish. Can they find a way to communicate and can she get back to her friends?

I enjoyed this story and it was very fortunate that he was at a different level of the dragon-man society and could help the humans more with the city they have made into their new home. I loved the dependence between Sverre and Jolie and how they found a way to work together in the future which meant they could compromise and be strong too. Easy to read and understand. Contains some explicit sexual content.

I did not like as well as the first book in the series. Many inconsistencies between both books in regards to the world itself. Things that were foreign to Ladon about humans were recognizable to Sverre. There were also too many grammatical errors. Distracting. Also the time line from Dragon's Baby to Dragon's Mate was way off. Noticeably off. I did not care for Jolie in this book. She was extremely jealous of Calista. They are best friends , but she wanted everything that Calista had. I felt it was a driving force. I did like Sverre. Although I do not understand why he has become a leader in Landon's territory. Also, why is Gershom still alive. He's a coward and should have died by now. He really adds nothing but hate to the series. I am interested in Amara's story. After reading reviews about her story, I've decided against it.

Jolie and Sverre

Sverre, another Zmaj goes to find out what the big explosion was and finds another Zmaj with humans. He keeps an eye on them and notices a girl who is outside the city being attacked by animals and he saves her. He also wants her to be his treasure. In his quest to keep her alive he must risk entering Ladon's territory knowing it may mean his death. But he will do this for his Jolie. There's plenty of action in this book and the romance between the humans and alien dragons is great. Trying to work together for both species is complicated but now they are willing to try.. And Sverre comes with the knowledge of knowing how to get the shield working. I'm really liking the series and can't wait to see what is going to happen when the girls have their babies.
