I like the characters and the premise as well as the setting. Editing isn't bad either. The little things eat at me though. There is no external safety on a Glock, to maintain 3 full sized riding horses in the UP of Michigan after the apocalypse you'd need to plant and harvest fields of hay and grain. Seems out of character for a gang of desperados that didn't seem to trade with anyone. If armed people are always trying to kill you and you kill them, you get their guns. Why do these characters never get any more guns that are laying around after these gun fights? Plus the classic, never throw down your gun when bad guy has a hostage. And bad guys, never launch into a long monologue that gives the good guys a chance to turn the tables. Also, the never scavenge all of the other empty cabins or burn down the empty ones that drafters and bad guys have been using. These little inconsistencies really ruin it.
The first two books in this series were good and well written. The editing on this one was crap. The author needs some english lessons of when to use I and me in his sentences. The final showdown was a clumsy attempt at realism. I hate to give poor ratings to an author but this part fizzled.
I would love this book, but I am beginning to believe that Bob, and company are cursed. No matter what happens they can’t catch a break. Spoilers for the next bit.......................?.......................................................
Why would the Weston’s take Daisy, but leave Libby there. It seems to me her father would want her with him.
This character is so bad tactically it's a miracle he has survived this long, but his story continues. The story continues with more hard times, starvation, several bizarre dream sequences and some odd character twists. I found myself wanting to scream at the guy each time he was doing the dumbest thing possible. At least the books are short and quick reads.
was excited for this next book in this series but it was very repetitive. for 3/4 of the book I felt like the same conversations about revenge happened over and over until finallyyyy he went and got revenge and the story got better.
I really enjoyed the series. I knew it had to end but was disappointed none the less. The ending tied up all the loose strings in a natural way. I've thought of this series since and wished it could have gone on longer but I understand a ten year period is long enough. I might read the series again.
The characters were most realistic and the story plot very relevant with today's pandemic and violence. I had to check that it hadn't been written this year but since it hadn't, it felt like a premonition. It provided insight for me into how I would survive in the world E A Lake created. I don't know that I would have survived as well as the tribe did.
Very interesting story concept and intriguing characters. I listened intently through all three books.
The continuing saga of survival in a world turned upside down. The character are very well developed and quite realistic. None of them are super survivalists, non are super heros and they all made mistakes, a very realistic book.
The author has the reader both hating and fearing what they will do to the main character and his 'family' of decent people who found themselves in a world where law was meted out by violence, where food was scarce and survival very difficult. So many situations that the author described are quite plausible and certainly makes one think about how easy we have things in our modern day world of ease and comfort. The world was thrown back to the early 1800's in one quick moment and will never be the same again. Civilisation hasn't even begun to redevelop. An excellent series of 3 books, so far.
Again, better editing but still needs some work. I'm enjoying reading these stories and I like how the story line is growing and new characters are being added. I look forward to the next book.
