Catamount Ridge

Rate this book
While tracking a fellow member of the Forest Service, Jessie Marcus comes face-to-face with a mountain lion. Raising her arms above her head, she makes herself as big as possible, hoping to frighten the animal away. His lips curled into a sinister grin as his paws adjusted for the assault. The moment the cat leaped, Jessie dove to the side. A searing pain raked down her arm and a blur flew over her head.Another mountain lion had attacked the first and knocked the blue-gray beast off his deadly trajectory.Jessie knew she might not survive the day, but it wouldn’t be because she failed to act. She scrambled down the hill and slipped on poison oak until she landed on Catamount Ridge Road. The ranger she searched for waited beside her truck. Hairs pricked at the back of her neck. His cool, handsome exterior had to be a façade, because in the light of day, Derek Foster felt more dangerous than the mountain lions.

Jesse Marcus is with the Forest Service and is back where she grew up. While tracking another member of the Service, she is almost attacked by a cougar until another one saves her. She manages to make it back to her truck where she finds the man she was looking for, Derek Foster, who seems to her to be more dangerous than the cougars.

I picked this book for the cougar shifters and because it was supposed to be a shifter romance. However, it really wasn't my kind of book. I give it 4 stars because I did finish it. The story takes some very dark turns and definitely isn't something that I'd classify as romance. There's sex, yes, but sex doesn't equal romance. I almost put it down several times but it was a short read and I was curious about the main part of the story. Hence, the rating.

Once Upon A Midnight Anthology

The premise is that two mountain lion shifters need a human woman to nurse their cubs so that they too become shifters. The both go about it in very different ways, but both are super sneaky. Jessie is the chosen surrogate and she really isn't on board with either plan. Oh and apparently there are a bunch of people who know about the shifters but didn't feel like Jessie needed any information, even though she was the one being targeted.

This was weird, and kind of confusing but had an interesting story that I wish was more clearly laid out.

Not what I was expecting

Not sure what I think of this book. I was expecting hea like every other shifter book I've read. Wasn't a fan of how things worked out between Jessie and Ice. Wasn't a fan of Ice cheating on the new mommy. Just wasn't a fan of much. Which was sad. Wanted to like this book but just didn't do it for me. It was a good book, just wasn't my cup of tea, ya know?

Jessie Marcus finds solace as a Forest Service Ranger but after an attack by a mountain lion she is no longer sure what is happening. There to rescue her was Derek Foster yet something is not right with his account of what happened and now Jessie doubts herself.

When Jessie meets Isaac (Ice) Foster, Derek's cousin, she is more confused on who rescued her from the lions and how it seems as though the lions are stalking her.

Will Jessie be able to figure out what is happening before her own life is in more danger and will she be able to protect her own family from the dangers that lurk in the forest?

This book definitely has you questioning the whole way through what happened and who is on which side. I knew that Jessie's account was accurate but I had no idea which of the cousins were involved in certain things and the book kept me involved until everything was sorted out.

The book starts out with such sadness and as you learn more about Jessie you realize how much she grew up in that one event. During the book she really questions herself due to what she can remember and I was super surprised at her actions at the very end of the book as it almost seemed out of character for her no matter how her heart felt.

I was surprised with The Guardianship and how Grace Langston took such an aggressive stance. The sweet teacher was no more!

In a way I was sad that it looked like the shifters would possibly come to an end as I love shifters.

Great book!

OMG!

Wow. This was the strangest shifter book I have ever read and I think I loved it. At the same time it left me feeling like I wanted more from it. Definitely recommend.

Jesse returns to Catamount Ridge as the new head of the Forrest ranger office.  Her father still lives in the house he built there years ago.  Jesse was in the Forrest when she is attacked by a join lion, then that lion is attacked by another one.  Jesse runs to get away from the lons while she can but her truck isn't where she left it.  She continues to run down the road when her truck pulls up, she jumps in and it is driven by the Forrest ranger, Derek.  He takes off and she hit her head on the dashboard.  Jesse wakes in a cabin, where she remembers having sex with Derek, he is no where around.  She gets dressed goes to her truck and starts back to town, she wakes in the hospital.

Things really get complicated and interesting from this point on.  This book is very well written, gets your interest from the beginning.

I was gifted this book for an honest review

Catamount Ridge by Aubree Lane was a great book. I loved reading this book and loved all of the characters. Catamount Ridge is the rewriting of Aubree Lane's great book Sierra Mist. Jessie is a very determined woman who finds out that her hometown is full of secrets. This story follows Jessie unraveling the many secrets. I loved the changes that were made to the ending and the book in general. This is another must read by Aubree Lane.

I read this story in the box set Shifters Untamed. While the characters were interesting and the storyline ok...I found it a little strange. All in all it was an ok read. I couldn't tell the difference between Ice and Derek and I'm glad Jessie could.
