About the author

Michael has worked on magazines, book jackets, animated films, TV adverts, and even for the police, sketching criminals described by witnesses. As well as illustrating many of his own books, Michael has illustrated over a hundred books for authors such as Shakespeare, J. M. Barrie, the Brothers Grimm, Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde. Michael has travelled widely - to Africa, Japan, the Arctic Circle, China and Malaysia, the Himalayas, Siberia and New Zealand - to research his books. "I do a lot of research when I'm travelling - I find it thrilling to discover the particular 'art' of different landscapes and work them into a book. But I find I have to travel by myself, otherwise I'm constantly getting involved in other people's impressions of a place... I try to be invisible when I'm travelling, so I tend to listen in on conversations rather than participate in them - I just want to look and draw."

In this story two very different dinosaurs discover their individual strengths and become the best of friends. This is a sweet story that I would've really liked had it began with the Littlest Dinosaur's egg cracking open. I didn't like the beginning where the mama fussed over The Littlest Dinosaur's egg more than her other children or the part where the papa dinosaur got the egg to crack by yelling at it because he was tired of the mama being to preoccupied to help look after the other children. I don't like this book enough to introduce it to the class but I could leave out the first few pages if I needed to.

The Littlest Dinousaur.

A story about social exclusion in the face of diversity.
The littlest dinosaur was born different from his brothers and sisters, a sort of freak of nature.
He spends most of his time alone, sitting atop a hill in silence.
One day his entire community is in danger, and he rushes to seek the help of the Long Neck, a solitary dinosaur he used to see from his hill.
These two strange dinosaurs save the day and the littlest dinosaur wins his father's heart. He and the Long Neck become best friends.

this is an amazing read for especially the kids of all ages. In this story, two altogether different dinosaurs find their individual qualities and become the best of companions. Awww!! What a cute book. I love the illustrations and message. No one is too small or too big to make an impact on someone's life. I would categorize this book under Science Fiction. It's a fictional story, but about dinosaurs. I would have this book in a K-2 classroom. It seems to be aimed towards younger students, but the message can be spread to older students as well.

A very little dinosaur (the littlest one!) feels like he is too small to do activities with his family, until one day his whole family gets stuck in the mud and need help. The little dinosaur remembers seeing a Long Neck dinosaur and decides to go ask him for help.
This is a friendship story and also a story about how being small does not prevent you from being useful and doing great things.

Noah was enthralled, but he is going through a dinosaur gaze. We’re he not then this book gives very little; the lesson is a just one, but is offset by a poor story to reach it and biased stereotypes of the mother and father’s reactions to childcare.

Aww, I loved this. A dinosaur hatches and he is much smaller than his siblings, but when his father and family get stuck in the mud, the little dinosaur finds a way to save the day. I love the father dinosaur shouting at the egg to hatch in the beginning, typical dad 😂

Sometimes we feel inappropriate or unworthy because of the way we look both to ourselves and to others around us. The Littlest Dinosaur uncovers that myth when he finds out someone could use his help. When he offers his help...he makes the unlikeliest friend...someone who is totally opposite of him!

This book would be good for the discussion of dinosaurs. But it would also benefit the discussion of learning to help others, despite their looks...because looks are not everything. Little people can do important stuff too! Friendships can be made in the unlikeliest places with people we would never imagine becoming friends with.

I'm constantly looking for dinosaur books. Always, I'm being asked for dinosaur books, mostly by little boys, or mothers of little boys. This is a book about the liiiittlest dinosaur ever. He's so small that no matter how much food his mama feeds him, he still won't grow. He can't play with his brothers for fear of being stepped on. He's beginning to think that he can't do anything at all.

But then, his whole family, one after another, gets stuck in some deep, sticky mud in the river--and the tide is rising! The littlest dinosaur runs across the hill to the biggest dinosaur he knows of: the long neck! The long neck comes over and rescues the little dinosaur's family easily, and he and the littlest dinosuar both learn that they can do anything. And they end up as really good friends.

This was a charming little book that dealt with the topic of friendship, family, self-esteem and a sense of belonging. What first made me buy the book however, was that it included my son's favorite thing...dinosaurs! I love the soft colors that were used and the quiet flow to the story. You sense what the youngest and smallest dinosaur was feeling and when that little dinosuar met the biggest dinosaur, you knew that even though they looked so different, they were much the same on the inside. This book had a great moral to the story and children always love to see a happy ending. Children also enjoy that the smallest dinosaur was the hero who saved the day.

This book is always a fun book to read. The littlest dinosaur is a size of a penny and everyone in his community makes fun of the littlest dinosaur, but at the end he becomes bigger than his size by saving his whole family. This book will be great for discussing what each of the students can become if they put their mind into it. What they can achieve in their life is not determine by their size, so the teacher can also discuss what bullying is and the effects of it. I would share a writing topic by what we can do to make the littlest dinosaur a little bigger. :)

This is an interesting dinosaur book. It tells a moral story about size not always being important as the littlest dinosaur saves the day - but he does it by seeking help from the biggest dinosaur so the moral doesn't follow completely through! I did enjoy it but did not like the daddy Dino shouting at the egg. I would prefer a true to life factual book where the littlest dinosaur is completely ostracized or killed or a fun happy story where yes there is some teasing about size but it's from his siblings, not his dad.

This book is so darn cute and heartwarming! I love the message in the story that no matter how big or small you are, you matter and can do great things! The illustrations are also so adorable. The littlest dinosaur is so sweet and lovable that I wish I can just put the dinosaur in my pocket and carry it around! I highly recommend this book ,especially if you like/love dinosaurs.

Read this for Storytime and it was adorable. I love this book so much!

A little dinosaur feels left out when the other dinosaurs pick on him for being smaller than the others. It is not surprising to find that this little dinosaur ends up being the big hero in the end. This book could help inspire students to do big things. It would also discourage bullying among the students and to help them accept and encourage each other.

variation of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer...littlest dinosaur is not able to function in a world of bigger dinosaurs but is able to save the day because of his size...the twist is that he helps the biggest dinosaur find his usefulness in the process.
