Caught Inside is my first read by S. Briones Lim, and I didn't really know what to expect. But I was really drawn in by the blurb and cover of this story and decided to take a chance on it. While there were things that I liked about this book, I ended up not loving it and it was actually hard for me to finish this one. I felt like it started off really well and had a lot of promise, but that after about half way through it just fell flat.

Riley Dillon just had the worst day ever. After finding out she was being fired from a job she didn't want in the first place, she broke her lucky shoes, and returned home to find her fiance sleeping with someone else. She decides to leave NY and head back home to her small hometown of Mistcoast, California to figure out her next move. Needing to find a job, her best friend recommends that she head to the local surf shop since they just posted a sign needing help. She never expects the owner to be the boy she once tutored back in high school. Though at the time four years age difference was a huge deal, Blake Reynolds is determined to show Riley that it no longer needs to be. Blake views Riley showing up at his shop to be his second chance with the girl that he once let get away. But will Riley finally take a chance on a relationship with Blake and stay put in California, or will she return to NY to pursue her dreams and leave Blake with a broken heart?

I really liked Blake. He had a few annoying moments, but after he had a heart-to-heart with Riley it explained why he acted the way he did sometimes. Beyond that though, he was super sweet and thoughtful, and he never gave up on Riley. He went out of his way to always do nice things for her and never once expected anything but love in return. He was so great to her and for her, and I thought that he deserved to be loved and treated well in return. Riley was impossible for me to connect to, and was a large part of my problem with this book. She was weak and wishy washy, and she honestly drove me nuts. She was always running and pretty much being a coward. Everyone around her pointed it out and all she did was get defensive and ignore them. She lied to Blake repeatedly and pretty much led him on the entire book. While I loved Blake and I liked that these two had some history between them, I got to the point that I was rooting for him to move on and find someone else.

My other big problem with this book was that it was really slow and seemed to drag a lot. The first half was interesting and I was really enjoying the story. But after that it just went downhill. I found myself bored and just wanting to skim to get it over with. I wanted to finish to see how things would end up, but it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as the first half of the story. I think the only reason I continued to read was for Blake. To me, this book could have been a really good one but it just sort of ran out of steam. I was disappointed with Riley's actions, and she just seemed to be completely immature and childish. She definitely didn't act her age, and it was hard to believe that she was older than Blake was. As much as I wanted to love this story, she made it next to impossible and I doubt that I will remember this story in the long run.

"Settling down with someone you love is the best adventure of all." (Caught Inside)

Every girl will identify with the "worst day ever" we are first confronted with in Riley's life, but hopefully not to the extent that she had. As is often the case, calamity can be a life changer and Riley's calamities are the catalyst that sends her home where she belongs. "Caught Inside" is an exciting journey from one side of the country to the other, and across the gamut of emotions that she needs to process. Mastering the sport of surfing ocean waves parallels perfectly to mastering her tumultuous and unpredictable life, which in turn makes a little more sense out of our own lives. Who wants to stay caught inside the surf when there are big waves to catch and you can have the ride of a lifetime?

What girl doesn't want the perfect fairy tale life? Dream job, perfect husband?
Riley is no exception. All she wants is to work in the fashion or more excat to design in New York.

We start of with Riley's not so perfect life in New York. Her day went to hell. Her job, her fiancé all of it. She moved back home to mistcoast California. She walked in to the surf shop to put in an application and low n behold there is Blake. They guy that the when he was 14 proclaimed his love for Riley. Riley Started working at the Double Overhead. She was learning to surf and she started designing. Then she got the big break she was waiting for in New York. But will Riley move or will she stay? Did she find her happy ever after? This is a must read book.

I have to ride the fence on this book

Everything was just blah for me. I read it, so I'll give it two stars, but the whole thing just lacked anything real.

The characters were just meh. She acts about 16-18 yrs old half the time, really not anywhere being 28. He just acted prissy to me. He just didn't have the draws you expect to have toward a male protagonist, and Lord know the female had little to no admirable qualities.

The storyline is much the same. I'm pretty sure it could have been good, but the execution just left it stale.

Going Home ❤️👙🌊💙

If it wasn’t for the great man Blake was, I wouldn’t have liked this book at all. Why he was so enamored with Riley was beyond me. She was self centered and weak. She finally made her true dreams come true with Blake’s support.

This is a good book if you enjoy surfing. I found it tedious at times, although she does a good job of describing the experience.

It ended well with a sweet HEA.

Amazing, simply amazing! This book had just about everything that I need in a romance book. Just the right amount of buildup with just the right amount of that good mushy stuff, along with a hint of comedy.

Caught Inside is a story about Riley Dillion. Riley leaves her hometown of Mistcoast, CA to pursue a life in New York. After coming across a series of unfortunate events in New York, Riley runs back to Mistcoast and tries to rediscover who she is. On this journey, Riley is reunited with Blake Reynolds, a former classmate who will make her reevaluate everything she thought she knew/wanted.

Blake, oh Blake. He has to be one of my new book boyfriends. Blake is 4 years younger than Riley, owns his own surf shop, creates/shapes his one of a kind surf boards, is in tune with his passions and dedicates 110% to everything that he does, which includes Riley. You can't help by fall in love as the pages turn and you really want this book to end happily for him...but the question is...will it? Gosh I love him...you have to meet him!

Riley is a beautiful inspiring designer who doesn't know who she is when she returns home. Part of her wants to live back in the city but part of her finds comfort in being home. She looks at Blake as a friend (or does she?) and begins working for him at his store. Riley beings to develop feelings for this man but are those feelings real? Will she give in to those feelings? The answer to those questions will come when you read the book. :)

My favorite character is Kacy, Riley's best friend from her childhood. She's hilarious and has no filter. She also is incredibly jealous and possessive of Riley as her BFF and I find this hilarious! I'm personally the same way with mine and i tend to react the same way when another friend is brought in the picture...so i can relate with her for sure! haha. The banter between her and Riley amazing and had me cracking up.

Overall, you won't be disappointed with this book. If you are a surfer, you should be able to relate with the terms used and if you aren't...well, you learn something new everyday right? 5 Stars...you gotta pick up this novel!

In the book 'caught inside' by S. Briones Lim, I felt like I got swept up into the series of events that occurred in the book. Caught inside is about unemployed, young lady, Riley Dillon. The book started off with Riley's worst day imaginable, first she was fired from her job, and then she found her fiancé cheating on her. Even Riley's lucky red shoes could not save her from that day's events. After knowing that there was nothing left for her in New York, she moved back to her home town in Mist Coast, California. With the help from her childhood best friend, Kacy, Riley starts to get her life back on track. Starting with her job. Riley gets her courage up and walks into the local surf shop, owned by Blake Reynolds, The boy who she tutored in high school had defiantly grown up from when he was 14. As the story goes on, Riley learns the ropes of her new job at the surf shop and her and Blake's relationship grows.
I decided to read this book because it involves a lot of surfing and that is something that I love to do.
One character in particular that I was interested in was Riley because she is one of the main characters and she also shows a great message throughout the movie; that even if you fall down, get back up again.
My favourite quote from this book is when Riley tells Blake that she is moving back to New York, and breaks his heart, but then realises that she doesn't want to be anywhere else than in Mist Coast with him, and she says;
"Im not leaving, how could i leave?"
Something I thought a lot about in the book was when Riley lost her job in New York and left with nobody really knowing who she was, and she wasn't doing what she loved. But when she moved back to Mist Coast, she started designing clothes again, and they were selling of the racks within days, and then she began to become more well known, you might even say she became famous. But she still stayed humble and didn't change.

Amazing romance story by S. Briones Lim. It gives you hope of not giving up on your dreams or yourself. The writing and flow of the book makes it a quick and easy read. It has comedy, romance, and drama all rolling into one book. I am not a surfer and I found it absolutely hilarious of all the terms and words they use. Blake comes off a little on the girly side for a guy but it is a change from the guys that are jerks or hard a**es in other books I read.

My review:

ARC provided for an honest review.

4 stars!

This was a sweet story. I love the title and how it pertained to the book.

Riley (h) has good friends, good family, a good job and she thought a good fiance. She was living a good life in New York until everything took a turn for the worse in one day. After her day from hell she decides to take some time and move back to her home town.

Blake (H) is smart, charming, shy, and motivated...oh yeah and very attractive. Blake is also the smart ass, flirty freshman Riley used to tutor, but when things are looking down and Riley needs a job she may have to ask Blake for help.

Blake was such a great character and stand up guy. He wasn't full of himself and had a little quirkiness to him. I love real H's. I also love that it was him with the lower self esteem and trust issues instead of Riley. Yeah she definitely had her issues too, but it was nice to see a little role reversal. I also liked the age difference being that she was a bit older but not more mature. In fact that was one of the cons I had with this book was that she was twenty eight and she seemed a lot younger to me. After thinking about it I thought we all mature differently or are mature in different ways, some are older souls which I felt Blake was and she still needed to find herself.

I liked Blake and Riley's flirting and banter, I wanted to smack her a couple of times and tell her to open her eyes but she was scared. The build up was great and so was their chemistry. All in all a very good read.

I would recommend.

Riley was a talented fashion designer with a terrible problem, she knew she wasn't good enough. Not good enough for New York, not good enough for her fiance Aaron. She projected the feeling, and so wasn't really surprised when on the day she was fired she came home to Aaron having sex with someone else in their bed.
Riley went home to California, and despite her continuing negative attitude, starts an exciting new life.

5 beautiful stars

1. Great story line
2. Couldn't put it down
3. Loved the characters.
4. Was in emotional over load throughout most of the book
5. Blake and Riley are amazing.
But.....I was extremely disappointed in the ending. Even the epilogue pissed me off. I want more. There is more to a story then just, she opened a store with surf clothes. Really?

This story is cute and down to earth. I jumped into the surf and swam til the end. There were some tears expelled, which is my indicator of a good emotional connection to the character. Definitely a great read and I want to pick up the others in the series

It was ok - Riley just got on my nerves throughout the whole book. Sometimes I wanted Blake to just find someone else cuz she was an ediot at times. Even kacy had more common sense than she did.

Pretty good. The main character did get on my nerves at time being singleminded but I loved how the author made me care for her from the beginning.
