To high school teacher Kasai, Kato Reiji is a troublesome, yet cute student. Despite being confessed to by Kato, Kasai does not overstep student-teacher boundaries. Spring goes by and he sees Kato off at graduation. A few years have passed and Kato is now a teacher himself. And he happens to come to the school that Kasai works at...
Yuki Ringo sensei’s gentle yet melancholic love story about ex-student x teacher, after they’ve reunited as colleagues ~5 years later. Somehow I didn’t like this manga as much as her other works (玉響 and 少年と神隠し)…
The two first met when uke (18) was in his final year of high school and the seme (26) was his teacher. The age gap is not too significant, although the uke was a cute and sweet student, the teacher maintained a proper stance as educator/adult and rejected the uke’s confession.
However the uke became a player when he grew up, frequenting sex club and sleeping around with many guys… As soon as he came back to the high school as a teacher himself, his feelings for the seme bubble up and he quickly breaks up with his current bf (substitute who looks like the seme) and moves out of their home…
These two are in different stages of their career and life… The uke is fresh out of university, still energetic and courageous, very honest about himself. Whereas the seme has been a teacher for some years and just want a stable life, kind of passive and boring, in denial about his feelings.
While it was slow-burn and the teacher never crosses lines with his student, I felt uncomfortable reading this, and there were times when I thought the teacher was ace and I almost wish he was and they remain as friends.... maybe if the ex-student wasn't so obsessed with him.. or if he didn't push him so hard...
I like how Yuki-sensei strives to keep Kasai's character within the boundaries and values he upholds. As with other works by Yuki-sensei that I've read, the inner conflicts of the characters in this manga are interesting to follow.
