Lance King, known as Blue, is the charming, local surfer bad boy everyone falls for. This comes in handy since he enjoys taking advantage of privileged college kids as they throw money around wherever they go. What turns out to be a typical spring break quickly changes when he meets the one tourist who exceeds his expectations.
Phoebe McCormick is on her way to having the time of her life. With Panama City Beach in her sights, and her two best friends by her side, the possibilities are endless, or so she thinks. What she isn’t expecting is Blue, the local surfer to nearly ruin her long anticipated spring break. Her carefree attitude and his charismatic personality is the perfect combination for a successful friendship, but their relationship turns out to be anything but. Once the fantasy world of spring break is over and life resumes in Pennsylvania, a secret she thought she’d be able to keep hidden emerges, making it difficult to ignore.
He steals her money, but she will steal something far more valuable from him — a memento that will forever change his life.
Jill Patten was born a Yankee, but raised a southerner. She lives in the small town of Mayberry, North Carolina which was made famous by a popular TV show back in the sixties. (Maybe there will one day be a statue of her at the end of Main Street. Ha! A girl can dream, right?)
Jill has always loved to read, even during reading labs in middle school for reading comprehension. Judy Blume was her first author she hero-worshipped, maturing to revere the works of Stephen King. With all the fantastic authors today, she simply cannot choose a favorite. Her taste is very eclectic and she loves almost all genres. When she's not captivated by her fictional characters, she spends time with her sweet husband and two beautiful children.
Music is her muse. Jill also loves elephants, sarcasm, and anything made with sugar, especially sweet tea. She enjoys all things rude and crude and laughs at stuff she probably shouldn't. She has been accused of being bossy a time or two, but doesn't really see it herself.
All in all, Jill is just a small town girl in this great big world trying to enable your book addiction.
Oh, and if you read her book, please leave her a review - good or bad, she'll love you forever.
Blue is one of those books that intrigued me right away. When I read the blurb, I thought… this one looks interesting. When I saw the cover, I knew I had to pick it up. I’m glad I did. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting. The story had much more depth and many more layers than I assumed from the start. I liked this one a lot.
Lance King, Aka Blue, is a local to the Panama Beach area. It’s the perfect place for him. He loves to surf and he’s content with his life working in a surf shop. He also loves when the tourists come to town. Blue has a reputation for being a bit of a player. Blue is charming and charismatic.
Phoebe is having a rough go of things, but she’s hoping that this trip will help lift her spirits. Spring break was supposed to be the time of Phoebe’s life. She is finally getting away with her two best friends for the week and is going to have some time to just enjoy herself and forget all the things going on in her life. Well, this spring break doesn’t have the best start. All of Phoebe’s money gets stolen before she even leaves the airport.
When Phoebe first meets Blue… let's just say it was a moment to remember LOL! The last thing she was expecting was to meet someone that would be more than just a quick hook up, but Blue is proving to be so much more. In just a week, their feelings for one another start to develop. Phoebe is surprised, but no one is more surprised than Blue. This doesn’t happen to him. He is not a one-woman kind of guy.
Lance ‘Blue’ King is not a perfect hero. Not by a long shot. But he is a kind person. He’s a guy who sometimes does things that are wrong, but he does them for good reasons. I was nervous at first that I wouldn't like Blue, but I couldn’t have been more wrong about him. He has his moments where he does dumb things (he is a guy ;) ) but he also has moments where he is so selfless and you can tell his heart is made of gold. He was my favorite character in the book.
I know what I feel in my heart is right. The heart doesn't lie and it knows what it wants.
I love strong heroines. Phoebe doesn’t have an easy life, but she makes the best of what she does have and I admire her for that. I love that she’s not weak, and even though she’s been dealt a crap hand, she makes the best of it. Blue and Phoebe’s relationship wasn’t always easy. They had MANY obstacles along the way. Things that require a ton of patience and forgiveness, but I always rooted for them, and hoped that they could make it work between them, despite all the obstacles they were faced with.
Blue is a great mix of fun, emotional, sweet and steamy. I enjoyed the story and adored Lance ‘Blue’ King! 4 stars!
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review. 3.25 Stars
Blue does bad things for good reasons, he doesn't see it as a crime, taking from the rich and helping the poor. Until he meets Phoebe. She isn't entitled or rich and he's the jerk that's ruined her vacation. Determined to make it up to her, Blue sets out to make her vacation unforgettable, but he doesn't have to try once she finds out the truth. Too bad he's already given her his heart, not that he realizes it. Once Phoebe returns to her real life she finds that nothing compares to Blue and his acceptance of her truths. When given the opportunity to try again, they both leap, but neither can predict what the future will bring.
Blue is a story filled with life lessons set in a beautiful coastal town on the water. Told from the POVs of Blue and Phoebe, we see life through their eyes and they enjoy a week long affair with secrets buried deep into the sand. The two are different, their worlds so far apart, but their personalities are similar, both are young and restless with their current circumstances. I enjoyed that a perfect storm of events seemed to occur that brought Phoebe and Blue together, though the circumstances weren't ideal. I also liked being "in" on the secrets, knowing the two were holding so much back. It allowed for me to have some sight into the coming drama, but also hold onto hope that they could fix things between them. It's definitely a younger story though and while some of the subject matter is heavy, it's the kind of book you can read on the beach over your own spring break.
Unfortunately, Blue also has all the cliche moments you've come to expect from new adult aged romances. I definitely found myself tearing up at moments, Jill does an incredible job of evoking emotions with her writing, but several parts were predictable. The relationship between Phoebe and Blue is standard boy meets girl meets drama, though the circumstances are a bit more unusual. I liked what the two saw in one another, but the way their connection played out is confusing. While Blue played the part of beach bum perfectly, Phoebe sometimes seemed like a combination of two people, confused on who she wants to be. I ended up having a hard time feeling compassion for her, because she was so outlandish in some of her ways, especially since she seemed to never make up her mind. Ultimately, I enjoyed what they shared, though how it happened seemed a bit unrealistic.
If you're looking for a new adult contemporary romance with a fair share of angst, Blue by Jill Patten is for you.
Panama City Beach is Lance “Blue” King’s playground. He works by day and parties by night. But unlike your average twenty-something male, he’s also a thief. A Robin Hood of sorts. He steals from those he deems underserving and gives to those less fortunate. As inexcusable as his actions may seem, it’s difficult to write him off as a character once we discover a little more about him and his reasons behind his unseeming act.
For Phoebe McCormick Spring Break is more than a vacation. It’s a chance to to exert her independence and finally feel the freedoms that she can’t back home. Life has thrown some difficult times her way, but her plans to live to the fullest quickly take a detour when her and Blue’s lives collide for all the wrong and right reasons.
The premise to BLUE was one that instantly piqued my interest. The idea of the thief becoming the victim was one that captured my attention and I was more than eager to see how the story would unfold. Jill kept me on my toes terms of angst and tugged at my heart strings in all the right places. That said my favourite aspect of the novel was Blue’s transformation. I found him to be quite a complex character, he portrayed an almost callous exterior but in fact he was quite the sweetheart.
There were moments of frustration, but overall I found BLUE to be a cute story of redemption and sacrifice.
I was lucky enough to beta this book and OMG BLUE!!! I can't wait for everyone to meet him! This book has it all--the perfect combination of sweet, hot, sexy, and angst. Your heart will melt when dive into this one. Blue and Phoebe meet during spring break under extraordinary circumstances, and what could've been an epic disaster, turns into an epic love story. I can't wait for you all to read this amazing story. I don't want to give anything away so you're just going to have to patient and wait for this one. 5 Blue Stars for this book!
This book was so much more than a romance. It's a story of courage, survival, unexpected chances, fate, sacrifice, lies, confessions, love, and healing. Yes, it really is all that!!!! I love when a book can grab my attention from the very beginning. I was hooked after the prologue, and also a little afraid of how this story was going to end. But you can rest assure that it’s an unexpected journey that is fun, yet angsty at times, and totally swoon-filled with love and determination.
Our hero, Lance King aka Blue, may be a thief, but he’s the kind of guy everyone will fall in love with - a gorgeous, charismatic, and carefree surfer with a heart of gold. He’s also hiding a big secret. He remembers her, the girl from the airport and Phoebe are one in the same. Phoebe is one of those heroines who I just immediately liked. She was kind, endearing and felt like someone I would be friends with in real life. But she too is holding onto a big secret. Despite his shock of realizing who Phoebe was, Blue found himself drawn to her almost against his will. He'd never been one to call a girl after, develop attachments, or be exclusive. He certainly didn't let anyone into his life, but he couldn't get Phoebe off his mind. So the balance of their dynamic was very interesting, as they both fell for each other while each respectively holding back huge personal secrets that could change their lives.
As the story unfolds and secrets are revealed, Blue really steps up. I loved the way he approached certain situations, and you could really feel his devotion to Phoebe. Being around her brought out a side of him that he’d sworn off long ago, and he wanted to be more for her. Towards the end comes an inevitable twist that made my heart sink, but I loved the way Blue fought for them, for her, and for their future. His determination to win back her trust and love, and to ensure that he never had to go another day without her in his life was pure swoon material!!
And the ending was just so perfect and full of heart that it brought real happy tears to my eyes.
I highly recommend this book. You need to meet BLUE!!! This man is guaranteed to melt your heart.
This book just made me feel so many different emotions but I loved every single second of it. This book is on a different topic than I've read in the past & I couldn't of been more thrilled about that. The author does an amazing job with so many things that come together to make this a book I will forever recommend to anyone who will listen. Please read this book, you will not be disappointed.
Blue sucked me in from the beginning. I loved it from beginning to end. It's a roller coaster of emotions read. I was so hoping that no one would die in the story and that the book wouldn't cause me to cry.
Phoebe has a few things going on in her life. She is on a vacation with her friends for some let loose time. Her trip doesn't start out as planned but she doesn't let that destroy her trip. She is dealing with some things but she is still upbeat and doesn't let that effect her too much.
Lance ("Blue") is a sexy surfer. He's a thief but he doesn't keep the money he steals for himself. He has a huge heart and is very understanding. Blue and Phoebe's path cross a few times. Phoebe decides to make the best out of her trip and Blue is going to help her do that. I loved reading how their relationship blossoms but in the back of my head I kept waiting for Blue's secret to come out. There are definitely some twists that I didn't expect.
I have sat here for the last little while trying to decide how to go about writing this review. For starters, this is the first book I have had the opportunity to read by Patten and I fell in love with her storytelling. Blue is filled with just enough drama, angst and love. Bottom line this is a roller coaster ride, that give you the feels. I am a suck for dual POV books and with Blue we get to see the story through both characters eyes.
Lance "Blue" King spends his days working in a surf shop and in the waters of the Panama City, Florida. He is a true surfer bad boy. He feels most at home riding the waves. Spring Break in Panama City is when he does his best work. Too bad this year he chose the wrong mark. When he falls short on funds to help a local young boy get to camp, he resorts to doing what he has to, to get the money, rather than let the young boy down. Blue knows all too well what it is like to have a parent who could care less about him and the last thing he wants is to let his young friend down. something that was done to him repeatedly in his younger years. Little did Blue know that when he stole Phoebe's wallet, she would steal something back from him far greater.
Phoebe McCormick just wants to get away with her best girlfriends for a week of sun, sand and fun. The last thing she wants is to dwell on the mess that has fallen upon her at home. What she didn't expect was for Blue to blow into her life and make it a living hell. Phoebe can't help but be drawn to the gorgeous, blonde surfer and his charismatic ways. The two strike up a friendship that makes up for the crazy start that they got. Blue sets out to give Phoebe the vacation of her dreams and when they part ways a week later, he finds that she has taken something from him...his heart.
You really need to just go and one click and read this one to see how it turns out. Blue steps up to the plate and delivers in more ways than one. He is so sweet, sexy and spontaneous. He teaches Phoebe how to live and shows her what it is like to be happy. We also get to follow Phoebe's family and what her illness has done to them and what can come of it in the future. We learn the lengths one will go to, to save the ones we care about most. I loved Phoebe and Blue. I was sucked in from the first few pages and could not put it down. It as an emotional roller coaster ride and I generally don't react much to situations like those in this story, but I truly felt it in my heart for once. I wanted Phoebe to be happy and healthy and Blue made me swoon. Well written and thought provoking. Go grab your copy now.
Blue by Jill Patten was an amazing read. Pheobe, a fun loving college student on summer break in Florida with her 2 best friends, gets a huge damper on her trip when her wallet's stolen. Phoebe is terminally ill and just wants to let loose before her next semester of college starts. She's had it pretty rough and just needs time to live without constantly worrying about her illness. Blue, a Florida local surfer dude, is carefree and just what the Dr orders. Did I happen to mention he's the douche who stole her wallet from the airport?!?! I'm not sure whether to love or hate him though. He does all the wrong things for the right reasons. He's also a ladies man. Has never had a serious relationship in his life. When they officially meet, Blue feels like an oober douche for stealing her money. And while she's in town he seems obligated to look out for her because of the ordeal he put her in. Things start to heat up though pretty quickly. But regardless nothing can come of this right? She lives in Pennsylvania while he lives in Florida. Not to mention that she is sick and her life expectancy is not very long. Not very long at all. OMG, it's been a long time since a book made me cry. There were some parts of this that were just so sweet and heart warming that I just couldn't help myself. I'm sure most people in some way or another has either had a friend or family member become sick. You don't think of all the crap they have to go through. The toll that some of the treatments can have on the body and the transformations some people have to go through and the toll it can take on your spirit. Its bad enough the things it does to your body but it's terrible what it can do to your self esteem and self respect. This book told the story of a 22 year old who should be care free and loving life but can't because she's held back by a crappy pair of lungs and the rejection of any guy who ever got close enough to learn about her illness. Its heart breaking and yet when you see how Blue is with her it'll just bring you to tears. She needed to catch a break, just one, and she finally did the day she met Blue. I received this ARC for my honest review.
With Blue, you get exactly what the blurb says, a handsome thief and a girl looking for a good time in Panama City. No strings attached for either of them. Or so they think...
While on spring break with her girlfriends, Phoebe is on a mission to find herself a one night stand. Love em and leave em if you will. She's been through a lot recently and decided that would be the perfect gift to herself. Almost instantly, her trip is ruined and she ends up on the beach with a handsome stranger.
Blue's hometown is Panama City, so he knows the ins and outs of tourist season. Trying to break a little thieving habit from the past, Blue has to pull off one more job to make things right with himself. Too bad he read this girl all wrong. Now he's got to make it right and ends up falling for her along the way.
We spend the rest of the book with Phoebe and Blue dancing around a friendship, all the while waiting for the truth to come out from both of them. There are pretty big secrets being hidden on each side, secrets that could end whatever little thing they have going on.
I liked Phoebe as well as Blue. They were straight shooters (for the most part) and had cute banter between them. The situation Blue was in came off as a little odd, however got better towards the end. The storyline felt predictable as I read, but there were a few surprises along the way.
The book is well written from dual points of view. Along with Blue and Phoebe, we meet her friends and parents, as well as Blue's sister Molly, to help carry the story along. This was a cute read that tugged at the heartstrings every now and then.
Lance 'Blue' King is a laid back 24-year old surfer who does the minimum to get by. Phoebe McCormick is a 22-year old terminal ill college student want an escape. She heads to Florida for Spring Break with her besties & immediately finds herself at the mercy of a pickpocket. Has Phoebe continues to experience unfortunate circumstances she bumps into Blue over & over again. They become friends while she spends her break in his hometown. It suppose to be about fun but Blue finds that the casual hit & run lifestyle being shaken by Phoebe. They keep their secrets play at being no string attached.
When Phoebe leave to go home she learns one of Blue's secrets & she leaves vowing to never speak to him again. But Blue is forever changed by the short encounter & wants to right his wrong. Before long he shows up on her door step to make amends. Phoebe listens, forgives & share her own secrets. They work to find a way to sort out what they want from each other. They both change in ways that neither of them expected but embrace to see where things go.
This books was more than I thought it would be. It takes you a roller coaster ride of emotions. It was playful & sweet but sad & thoughtful too. I really rooted for the couple to work things out for all they had to endure.......but I won't give away the ending. I would recommend this book. It is well written & the characters are well developed. It a good love story about courage & taking a risk with your heart.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
WOW want a book that is an emotional roller coaster with a ton of twists and turns? If so then pick this book up because it is sure to take you on a ride.
This book had my emotions on high alert, it was sweet, charming, it had some steamy parts in it and it was a book about patience and forgiveness.
These two both have secrets and in order to make things work it is going to take a lot of work. Phoebe is someone you are going to love. Her life isn't a bed of roses in fact if anything it is a bed of thorns. She hasn't had it easy but she chooses not to let it keep her down and she is set out to make the best out of what she has.
Blue is a local where Phoebe is vacationing. He loves to surf and is happy with his life and where he is at. He isn't the type to settle down, in fact he has the reputation of being a player. He is someone that will work his way into your heart that is for sure. He wasn't expecting to find any sort of relationship beyond a hook up with Phoebe, in fact she wasn't either, but things get more serious then either of them expected.
This was my first book by Jill and I am really glad that I picked it up. It was a really good book and I really think that you will highly enjoy the story as well. Jill did a great job giving us a story that will have you feeling so much and falling for the characters. Can't wait to read more by Jill in the future.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review** I absolutely loved this book!! I didn't want to put it down. Blue is your typical surfer guy who's popular with all the ladies...until he meets phoebe who turns his world upside down. A sweet down to earth girl who just can't catch a break. I loved the personality of the characters and the story itself. It has everything you want in a book love, angst, and eventually HEA. I haven't ever read from this author before but I will definitely be reading from her again!!
Hey you all! You should give this book a chance, it is an amazing read! You are going to love Blue so much! I was immediately intrigued by the plot. I really enjoyed the story even if the prologue was a bit of a shock but soon i couldn't put down the book. Obviously i preferred Blue more than Phoebe, he's so charming with a golden heart. I loved how the author has shaped the two characters, built their emotions, how they interact with each other. Some parts of the story will break your heart, you'll cry and you'll laugh too: this book is an all inclusive package!!! The setting of the story is so beautiful and I really love stories with different POVs like this one. So, what are you waiting to dive into this amazing story?
Blue and Phoebe meet under unusual circumstances but that doesn't make their love story any less. Great writing. Great story. Keeps you engaged in the entire story.
Beaches, surfing and love! A Spring Break fling is all Phoebe McCormick is looking for right now. One week in Florida with her two best friends to dance, drink, forget her life at home and just enjoy the moment is all she needs. Getting robbed as soon as her plane touches the ground is not how Phoebe envisioned her trip to begin.
Lance King aka Blue is your typical local surfer, one night stand seeker, smooth talking womanizer that we expect to find while on vacation. He's also a thief and he's just stolen from the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. The only problem is he didn't know the blonde bombshell would capture his attention. The more time he spends with Phoebe and gets to know her, he runs the risk of her stealing his heart.
Blue is much more than a bad boy thief. His intentions and decisions in his personal life melted my heart. His need to protect Phoebe and do right by her and because of her was almost saintly. Blue and Phoebe have their moments of ups and downs before they decide if they want to pursue a relationship that lasts more than a week.
Jill Patten's Blue is more than just a story about spring break, drunken nights, and sexy one nighters. The depth and meaning consumes you and you have no choice but to want to know more. I can't emphasize the twists and turns and I was nervous that I would be crying throughout, but I wasn't. I laughed, I swooned and I did cry but they were happy tears.
Now there was some great bits, and some not so great bits. To begin with, I hated both characters. He's a complete wanker and I just didn't like her outlook on her life but I also understood why she was that way. Anyway, by the halfway mark they both grew on me, him more than her which grew even more towards the end because he shows true growth, her however I'm a little pissed with. and I didn't personally like the epilogue but it was I guess a bit of fluffy happiness after some truly depressing moments in their life so I get that too.
It was enjoyable, I wasn't particularly a fan of the writing just because there was some 'on fleeks' and other shit people my age actually say but I've never heard it in real life unless the person is a complete wanker (sorry, but not really) and everyone was super stupid at times etc, but I do think it's a pretty good portrayal of people that age as I do know friends like that. I had a lot of issues with their bought processes. Eg, she gets robbed and her first thought regarding buying stuff is that she'll have to convince some guys to buy her alcohol... Like, maybe just not drink? And not lead people on for free shit? Or just accept your friends money because it's the less sketchy of the two? But okay, each to their own.
Books like this make me feel like I'm a 30y.o not a 22y.o or something. And I don't mean in an 'I feel old' but in an 'I don't get people my own age' type of way. Is it because I had a kid? Or is it because I never liked partying? I'm unsure, but stories like this make me feel like I know nothing of people my own age anymore and if this is how they are I honestly don't mind!
Blue by Jill Patten was an amazing, engaging and entertaining read. The characters were fun loving and so engaging as was their story. The prologue was a huge eye opener and introduced us to Phoebe, a special and unique character. Phoebe is not your usual blonde haired rich girl on spring break in Florida. She’s a humbled character and saved up her money to enjoy her time away with her 2 best friends. I loved how the author wrote this character. She comes across like people I know, someone who’s like me. She’s worked hard and just wants to enjoy her life on her terms. I related to her carefree and realistic attitude. She deals with her physical limitations daily but doesn’t let it stop her from enjoying life.
Panama City for Spring sounds like fun, but her first day of sun and fun turns into a nightmare when her wallet is stolen. This where the adventure begins. Blue is the local surfer bad boy, living for the day never thinking about the next, or so we are led to believe. Blues character is anything but selfish and we find that out by the way he interacts with Phoebe. He is used to the regular spoiled rich girls only here for a good time all on daddy’s money, but when he learns who Phoebe really is, he plans to make her time in Florida a memorable one. Blue and Phoebe promise a week of fun and nothing else but when trust is built and feelings deepen that’s when things really get interesting.
Gosh to have a book that makes you cry, laugh and scream is something that I love to experience in a book. Blue gave me that and so much more. Phoebe’s situation is sad but her support system is amazing and watching her and Blue find a relationship neither believed could ever happen was a real treat. The author takes readers on a journey of forgiveness, self-discovery and love. I loved how over the span of a week we see how much Phoebe’s presence changes the way Blue views life and how he’s determined to be a better person. Phoebe also goes through changes. Some of these changes will break her heart but others will bring hope. Blue is a good read and one worth taking a chance on.
It's hard to put into words my thoughts on this book ok maybe because I'm wiping tears. The author has done an amazing job writing this book. She pulls you in right away.
Phoebe was given a death sentence with a minor hope of a happy outcome so planing to go on a vacation of a life time it starts off in the crapper only as things progress through the week to get better and she makes memories that will always stay with her especially the ones she has of blue aka lance.
Lance aka blue does the most stupidest thing in his life by stealing from a sexy as hell blonde who he thinks is on mommy and daddy's money only to be slapped in the face not only for being an ass and assuming but once he meets the sexy blonde phoebe his world gets flipped upside down and inside out. Making him choose to go back and work for the company his grandfather built to provide a stable future though not knowing what the out come will be for him and phoebe
Making amends for his actions he's the victim of a stollen heart though who stole it he doesn't want it back. After learning of phoebes diagnosis he can't help falling more in love with her offering up the most special gift a transplant Waite could ask for. But before he can fallow through they get news of the ultimate gift phoebe could get. Feeling lost and not knowing what to do to help phoebe he offers to help her parents pay for it. But Bly to get shut out
Now I could tell you how it ends but I won't I want you to read this book to find out for yourself but know it ends with a happy ever after but what blue and phoebe do to get there is their story to tell.
On a side note even though I received this for a honest review I applaud the author for putting the struggle of what a family goes through having to wait on a transplant list to help bring attention to the cause that many on that list may never get and I hope she puts links in the book for you to get more information on how you can help
Reviewed on behalf of 2 Girls Who Love Books Blog Blue is a standalone novel with a HEA that leaves space for more than one book featuring the other side characters. Unfortunately this book was not mine. I couldn’t really get into the story at the beginning and found myself skipping big chunks of writing, because nothing really happened. In the beginning there was a lot more telling than showing but it got better with time, so about half way through the book I was sucked in and finished really fast. The overall writing style is good. I didn’t find any grammar, spelling or other mistakes, so the writing flows and makes it easy to read the book. In the end I had the impression the author just wanted to finish everything up. There were some things only mentioned in one half sentence without really going deeper to what and how it happened just so this loose end was tied up. When reading the blurb and volunteering for reviewing this book I expected a totally different story so I was a little surprised at how it turned out. Nevertheless I really didn’t like how the characters developed during the story. Blue went from womanizer who doesn’t care about anybody other than himself to a whiny whimp within a few pages while Phoebe is selfish and continues her selfish behavior almost till the end. I understand where this all came from, but for me it was just not a likable behavior. I really didn’t connect with those characters. I give three stars, because the idea behind the story is good, but as I said before I expected something completely different from the blurb and the characters were not my type of people.
Jill Patten is a first time Author for me and what a read to start me off, Blue was a beautiful read quite emotional in parts. Blue aka Lance King is a self confirmed bachelor for life till he meets the one girl that knocks him on his ass. He's the hot surfer boy that no one can tame all though he's comes across as a bit of an idiot he has a good soul and does things even though they are wrong he has good intentions. This is what leads him to that one girl Phoebe when he steals her purse, like i said with good intentions so don't be hating on him just yet. Phoebe is on a spring break holiday which after i hard few years due to illness she desperately needed and saved so she could afford it but Phoebe has no luck and on the day she arrives she has her purse stolen. Determined to still enjoy herself with her friends a drunken night leads her to Blue. When Blue realises this is the girl he robbed he sets out to do right by her and give her a fun filled vacation and we all know what happens on spring break stays on spring break or does it!!! I loved how the friendship then relationship built between the two main characters and could go on and on and tell you the whole story but i really don't want to spoil this read to much. It Truly is a Beautiful fun story.
***I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.***
The blurb caught my attention and intrigued me. I really wanted to know Blue and Phoebe's story. I was not disappointed. It gives you a very short and to the point start where you learn the ground work of the heroine. What her story is. As we get further into the story a connection develops between the two that although having started on an untold truth really just feels meant to be. All while knowing the truth eventually comes out you can easily fall into the characters and look beyond that one act. You want to cheer for their romance all while holding if/when the truth comes out they'll still be willing to fight for one another and whatever this connection is that they have.
Yea there might've been some predictable parts but even in those moments the predictability I was still surprised. I really enjoyed all the characters presented. Phoebe's best friends where a riot. And the banter between her and Blue was sweet and witty.
I gave this book a 5 because I enjoyed the storyline which gave a little something different in the contemporary romance genre. A little drama, humor, and spice. Everything nice.
Fabulous, unexpected, captivating romance. Phoebe is excited to get away for a week with her best friends over spring break. She lives in a bubble of sorts following her pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis which has given her a short time to live. As she looks forward to letting loose and having fun, she never expects to be captivated by a surfer. Blue loves Phoebe’s spunk and determination. When he realizes he did her wrong, he works to make it up to her by helping her have the best week ever. Blue is sort of lost, trying to defy his father and not join the family business, he’s become a beach bum. Will his encounter with the courageous Phoebe help him find purpose? How will the free spirit of Blue help Phoebe as she faces the fight of her life? Can these two find love together before Phoebe loses her fight? This story gives you all the feels – tears, laughter, hope, despair – while delivering on a sexy romance. A fabulous blend that provides a compelling read. I was given a copy for an honest review.
I received an advanced copy of this book. This review is unbiased and spoiler free!
This was the first book I've read from Jill Patten. This book followed the story of Lance (Blue) and Phoebe's story! Phoebe goes on Spring break with her friends and comes across Blue at the airport through less than desirable circumstances. They meet again on the beach and Phoebe doesn't realise it's the same person.
I gave this book 3 stars. I enjoyed the idea of their story and especially liked Blue's character, however Phoebe didn't appeal to me at all. I couldn't identify with her inner dialogue and at times it felt forced. Blue's character evolved throughout the book but I didn't see the same evolution of Phoebes character. I also felt the epilogue didn't reflect the story. At the beginning of the book Blue takes a trip to a centre for disadvantaged youths which has little or no return in the story until the Epilogue.
5 amazing Stars This was such an amazing read. I could give so many adjectives to describe this story but just fill in the one word you would say instead of amazingly and you have got what this story is. When I started this I was hoping it wasn't going to be an ugly-cry and a box of kleenex story. I kept trying to guess how the story would end and when I got to the end I was so happy I could have done my happy dance and yes I did shed a few tears. Blue is so amazing. He won my heart. He made a decision that he regretted and when he chose to reveal what he did knowing that he might lose the best thing that could happen to him, he was willing to accept the consequences. Phoebe is one strong accepting person. She is dealt a bad hand in her life and is trying to make the best of it. Her friends are taking her to Panama City for Spring break and she's up for some fun time.
