You're never too old to rock and roll - or to do the horizontal bop, for that matter...
This anthology focuses on that often-neglected sexual being, the older woman. Ten writers offer up a variety of takes on lust and love in later years; wistful, joyful, affirmative, filthy or raging against society's expectations.
There are holiday flings, blind dates, settling long-unfinished business, a bawdy barbecue and a horny handyman. Slip between the covers and see what the Silver Age has to offer.
Silver Desire features stories from Elizabeth Coldwell, Jillian Boyd, Spencer Dryden, Pepper Valentine, Charlie Powell, Madeline Moore, F. Leonora Solomon, Jordan Monroe, Hannah Lockhardt and Zak Jane Keir.
It sounds cheesy to call an anthology "important", but I'll use the term anyway. "Silver Desire" is an important work. It's probably not ground breaking, as I'm sure there are authors who have stand alone works featuring older women as protagonists, but they are not very visible. Here's a collection of them and the selection by editor Zak Jane Keir proves that erotica plays well with older women. There's still plenty of heat left. It's noteworthy that the characters in the stories appeared and acted in age appropriate ways; they have been damaged, tested by life's trials, their skin isn't as tight, they have age freckles and are sagging a little. They don't engage in mind boggling sexual gymnastics.
All of us reader/writers over a certain age (I'm 66) begin to experience fading visibility in a youth obsessed society. Just as the novel we hate to mention opened up the world to BDSM, this anthology could open a door to readers and writers to fifty shades of silver, FSOS and maybe even help Madison Avenue recognize there is lot of opportunity in this cohort. Write ON! No wait. I said that in the sixties; it's cheesy.
This was in interesting and enjoyable set of stories of women mostly in their 50s enjoying sex. The stories are well written and although sex is a key part of each story, the adventures of each woman is different. Some women are looking for something casual while others are enjoying a more long-lasting relationship.
Not really a complaint, but most of the men although important, are not as developed characters as the women. They vary in age but all perform admirably and meet the needs of the women.
Although these stories are likely geared towards women, most men would enjoy reading them as well. I certainly did.
