Prequel to the New York Times bestselling novel, Forget Tomorrow!
In a world where all seventeen-year-olds receive a memory from their future selves, Logan Russell's vision is exactly as he expects—and exactly not. He sees himself achieving his greatest wish of becoming a gold-star swimmer, but strangely enough, the vision also shows him locking eyes with a girl from his past, Callie Stone, and experiencing an overwhelming sense of love and belonging.
Logan’s not sure what the memory means, but soon enough, he learns that his old friend Callie is in trouble. She’s received an atypical memory, one where she commits a crime in the future. According to the law, she must be imprisoned, even though she's done nothing wrong. Now, Logan must decide if he'll give up his future as a gold-star swimmer and rescue the literal girl of his dreams. All he'll have to do is defy Fate.

Before Tomorrow by Pintip Dunn is a prequel novella to the young adult science fiction fantasy Forget Tomorrow series. This novella is told from Logan's point of view and shows a closer look at what will happen in the first book of the series. It is of course best to read the whole series as this does leave off at a cliffhanger to what will happen in the later books.
Set in a world in which everyone will receive a vision of their future self when they turn seventeen it is Logan Russell's turn to see his vision. While the vision shows Logan that he will go on to become a great swimmer it also shows him with Callie Stone who currently isn't speaking to him. Logan doesn't want Callie to be forced into something with him so is afraid of sharing his vision with her.
This was a great start to the series that made me want to continue on and see what happens next. The author did a wonderful job incorporating just enough world building, character building and action to the plot in such a short time that it couldn't help but make me curious. Definitely enjoyed this opener and can hopefully continue on with the series.
I am so happy I got to read this novella in advance! Before Tomorrow is a peek of Forget Tomorrow seen through Logan's eyes. Callie gets all the airtime in FT, but here, we get to see what's going on in the head of our favorite hunky swimmer and love interest, Logan. If I hadn't fallen in love with him in FT, he would have had me in Before Tomorrow. I loved learning his thoughts and feelings for Callie, and getting some revelations of what was happening behind the scenes with other characters, which Callie couldn't know about. This novella is a delight and a must-read for every fan of the Forget Tomorrow series. It's a perfect accompaniment to full-length book two in the series: Remember Yesterday, which releases early October 2016.
This was a really sweet addition to book one in the series. Being able to see in Logan's mind and hear some of his reasonings is enthralling. Do you need to read it to get the story? Not at all, but is it totally worth it? I think so.
This was a great intro to the series. Despite the length, you quickly are able to fall into the world created and to understand what the characters are going through, which is excellent story telling and writing.
This book and talking with the author today at the book signing at our store has whet my appetite for the rest of the books in the series! She said that the others books in the series are even better than this one, so I'm excited to read them.
4.5 stars, rounded down in anticipation of the next three, five star reads!
Thank you Pintip for coming to our store for the signing. We all had a great time!
I loved being plopped into the mind of Logan Russell, both in the scenes I've read in Forget Tomorrow and those that demonstrate a whole new side of him, his insecurities, and nuances in his relationship with his parents, his coach, and the leader of the resistance, Melie. Some other reviews I've read suggested it was just FT in a different POV, but I disagree. I felt like I saw a different side of Logan through his interactions with other characters, and am now even more excited to read the last book in the series.
Before Tomorrow, or as everyone is referring to it, Logan's novella is the prefect addition to this series. Logan is still my most favorite character of them all, and exploring his train of thought was a joy. We get a glimpse of new characters, of things behind the scenes of the first book, and they're extremely entertaining. Fans of the series would love it. Don't skip out on it, you'll regret it later.
My reviews of the two other books in the series here and here.
This is the start or prequel to a series. Aged 17 every young person goes to collect a 'memory' sent somehow by their future self. This destroys hopes as a girl who wanted to be a top performer just gets a memory of being a mother so she drops her training - what an idiot. No reason she could not do both or be a performer before a mother. I did not see this as realistic (ironic laugh) but our protagonist is a lad who wants to be a swim champion. He envisions getting his gold.
Now we start to see the cracks developing as a girl meets the lad and she claims that memory dreams are manipulated or false. Can this be true? Well, what do you think is likely? Manipulation of the populace or contravening the laws of physics?
A star is lost immediately for the cliffhanger ending. I might try the series but I might not. Due to the protagonist's swimming training we do not see much of the surrounding world. This is aimed at bright YA readers but there is very little science fiction involved.
The novella is written from Logan's POV. It starts from the moment that he turns seventeen and his future memory is given to him. In the memory, he realizes he will be a gold star swimmer but also he sees Callie in his future, the girl he hasn't spoken to in six years.
Logan also has to deal with his feelings about his future memory and his parents learning about it. He believes his father wouldn't have been happy if the memory wasn't a successful one.
I was excited to read Logan's POV. It shows how much he cares for Callie and how guilty he feels about what he let happened to his brother. This only makes me more excited about the next book in Forget Tomorrow series.
4/5 Fangs

Coming into this as a reader who has no knowledge of the world, I found this novella intriguing, but not quite satisfying.
We meet Logan on his 17th birthday, the day when everyone receives their future memory. His is decidedly good, showing him winning a swim race, but the inclusion of Callie in that vision - a friend who he's long let slip, but has never quite left his mind - fills him with doubt. They haven't spoken for years, but seeing her fills him with hope. What does it mean? Callie's birthday is the next day, and when she receives her future memory, it's not so great. Locked away for a crime she's supposed to commit, Logan needs to find a way to help her and atone for a past he's ashamed of.
The story ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger, and while not bad, it just didn't quite hit the spot for me. For fans and readers of the series, I can see how this might be a helpful filler for the world they know, but for me, the information left more questions than answers. The writing is beautiful and the world is certainly intriguing, so the series is worth a shot, but this might not be the best first glimpse for new readers.
As an avid reader I love novellas they are different glimpses at beloved stories and characters. I hope Mrs. Dunn continues to give us novellas because they are fun and an excellent way of keeping the most starved fan satisfied until we get the last course! And then I hope we get a desert novella!
4.5 This is totally worth the read ESPECIALLY if you haven’t read the first in a while!
Got this as part of the preorder for Remember Yesterday & loved it! Logan is adorable. I could read the entire first book in his perspective & be completely happy. Now to start Remember Yesterday.
It’s a ballsy move to make a prequel that’s just your other book, almost exactly scene for scene, with only a few changes. It’s an even ballsier move to make those changes: “He curled his hand into a fist. Damn the future. This wasn’t supposed to happen. This wasn’t what she deserved. If anybody should’ve received a good memory, to live happily ever after, it was Callie.” type of half-assed teenaged love bullshit.
If you’re going to write two books, do everyone a favor and write two books. This is the literary equivalent of the webpages that make their celebrity gossip into slideshows to get more clicks.
If you read book one, don’t read this book. If you didn’t read book one, don’t read this book.
This was a novella that gave us Logan's point of view and I loved seeing things from his perspective. It was fun to learn more about Logan and his family dynamics or lack there of. His dad sounds like a real jerk and his mom is wonderful but should learn to stand up to his dad in Logan's defense. I love he dropped his future to be with the girl of his dreams. Cannot wait to start Remember Yesterday.
When Logan receives his future memory he's surprised by the impact of the short fragment he's just seen. He will achieve his biggest dream, becoming a gold-star swimmer, but that isn't the part that makes him happy. It's watching the girl in his vision that matters the most. It's Callie, who's always been in his heart. Unfortunately Logan hasn't spoken to her in years. He never stopped noticing her though and maybe his future is showing him it's time to start talking to her again. She was his best friend and if she'll be in his future he needs to mend the rift he's caused.
Callie is in trouble. Logan has just found her again, but now he might lose her once more. Callie's future memory is dangerous and she's being punished for something that hasn't happened yet. Are future memories reliable and do they show their recipients the truth or is there more going on? Logan has to make a decision, will he focus on his swimming career or will he choose saving the girl he's always loved?
Before Tomorrow is a novella that shows a very important part of Forget Tomorrow through the eyes of Logan, while in Forget Tomorrow Pintip Dunn focuses on Callie. It was insightful and surprising to read the same scene from a different point of view. I instantly liked this novella. Pintip Dunn has chosen one of the most special scenes of her series to write about and it's fabulous that she's giving this precious moment to her readers once more, but in a completely different way.
Pintip Dunn's writing flows easily. She writes about an interesting world. I love the idea of future memories and her vision on time is fascinating. Her stories are creative, fast-paced and action-packed. I admire the adrenaline rushes intertwined with deep and unconditional love, it's a combination that works incredibly well. I highly recommend the Forget Tomorrow series and definitely enjoyed reading fantastic addition.
As expected, I devoured this novella because Logan’s point of view does not disappoint! I might be somewhat biased because I’m so in love with this series but this little glimpse into Logan was awesome. He is even sweeter and more amazing than I originally thought. Anyone who has read and liked the other 2 books must not miss this one… and even if you are new to the series, this might be a good place to start. Before Tomorrow starts a little before the events of Forget Tomorrow (since we get Logan’s side of things) but it quickly catches up to the beginning of the first book. After that, we get to experience a piece of what Callie and Logan went through but from his perspective. It’s great to finally know exactly how Logan was feeling and what he was willing to give up for Callie, even from the very beginning.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
An interesting novella which gives the other side of the Logan/Callie story and describes Logan's future memory in more detail. Quick read and enjoyable.
It's been a while since I read the first book in this series. That happens to me quite often. I read a book. I love a book. I buy the entire series because I want it on the shelves and I'm determined to read it soon. And then I discover another series and get distracted. However, I needed a short read for a reading challenge and this novella was absolutely perfect.
This novella also reminded me of how much I loved the first book, the characters, the world and what was at stake. I was quite surprised how many details I could still remember, how much came back while reading this short prequel. It speaks for the first book and it speaks for this novella, because it seems they both left an impression.
What I loved about this novella is that we see so incredibly clearly how much impact the memory from the future has on the present. And it also asks a very important question: Is it actually a good thing, those memories of the future? If you already know if your big dream is gonna come true or not, is life still worth living? Is it still worth it to try?
Even though there were quite some scenes the first book and this novella had in common, I also really enjoyed walking in someone else's shoes and seeing someone else's life. Especially because we already know that at the end of the novella he's gonna make a life changing choice. And the build up towards that choice was very well done.
I have officially finished Pintip Dunn’s trilogy with this prequel that I was excited to read. It is only 80 pages long, so you can imagine it is a short read. I think it would be great for it to be published as an extra part to the first book! As it is such a short book, I’ll write a shorter review than I usually do.
I had read the main trilogy in French, but as this prequel hasn’t been published in France, I had to read it in its original version. It was a bit weird to see the names of the instituitons and the concepts of this dystopia in English at first but I quickly got used to it. It was so nice to read about Callie and Logan again. I liked the fact that this trilogy changed its protagonist with each book, but I think it is always nice to go back to the characters that made you discover a story for the first time. It is also the first time Pintip Dunn introduced her dystopia from a masculine point of view, and I think she did that pretty well, even though the writing wasn’t quite as natural as it was with her feminine points of view.
This story is about the two days before Callie received her future memory, with Logan getting his own memory. It is really nice to know more about this character and the way he handles his future. We also find out about his family, his swimming coach, and a character from the rebel side who should have been more important to the story in my opinion: the President’s sister. Above all, I really enjoyed seeing how the plan for getting Callie out of prison got into place thanks to Logan. And I really liked how the book nodded to some elements of the main trilogy.
This prequel isn’t necessary to understand the rest of the story, but it gives us another point of view about the first book and enables us to finally know what happened to the other characters while Callie received her own memory or was in jail. I thought it was a pity that half of the book was about events we already went through from another point of view, I would have loved to find out more things and to see more surprises. I still had a nice time overall and I hope you’ll get to read more of Callie and Logan’s adventures by reading it. Let’s hope it gets translated so that more people can read it.
This is a short prequel to a series I have not read, but I will say that it got me curious enough that I will probably end up reading the rest of the Forget Tomorrow series. The story is very fast paced and suspenseful. The characters are well developed, especially for such a short story. I got to know them pretty well, and found myself rooting for them at the end.
Oh please please write 1.5 from Logan perspective! 0,5 and FT are really something, enjoyed style of writing and way of thoughts of Logan and risky paths👌🏼
I loved hearing Logan's thoughts and how he was already head over heels for Callie too. It shows that even though the romance exploded quickly, it had been building up for years.
