No two tracts of land are the same. Each piece of rural real estate is unique in its own way according to its location and use.
Buying timberland is not the same as buying farm land.
Buying a wooded recreational tract is not the same as buying a wooded development tract.
This book will give you specific information as it relates to a number of different rural real estate types, scenarios and what-to-watch-fors. You'll learn a lot of how-to tips, and you will get good information that can save you money, make you money, save time or all 3!

For a beginner Overall, this was a good book I’m interested in land development and this book was a good introduction to that from realtor and owner Perspectives I appreciated the different perspectives that were given from the 8 writers I learned a few terms and have a direction for the next book I need to read on the subject
A lot of these books are written by supposed experts and give you very basic advice. This is a wonderful exception to that trend. A book, edited by a NAR/RLI accredited land consultant and containing articles from other land consultants. Talking about issues from financing to timberland, the book has a “next level” of information missing from many other short books of this genre. A great investment and good read for anyone looking to work with land.
I read this right on the heels of LandBook: The small landowner's guide to buying, improving, maintaining and selling rural land and found them nicely complimentary to each other. Where LandBook was a bit lacking in detail, Tips almost provides too much. Read together, they make a great introductory pair on land owning for someone as clueless as me. I still plan to find additional texts, as there doesn't seem to be one singular "Land Buying for Dummies" as I'd hoped.
I mean it’s obviously a bunch of shameless self promotion but there was a lot of valuable data there for folks just starting. Worth reading real quick.
I’m not exactly sure what I expected but this book gave a broad view of rural land, what to expect, how to research it, and how to protect yourself. With a panel of experts in each chapter explaining their perspective according to their expertise.
It frequently reads like a long commercial for the authors' various companies but, compared to other books available on Amazon, actually has some practical and thoughtful advice for buying land. I liked it and it was worth $3.
Great short read if you were looking into buying land for hunting, camping, maybe building a cabin on that property, or farmland. doesn't go so much into if you're going to build property on that land. I think other books would be better suited for that. But if you were looking for land to enjoy outdoor activity or farming this book is a good read.
Considering that each chapter was written by a different author, you can clearly see the difference in the quality of information provided from chapter to chapter.
I didn't know what to expect from this book but was hoping for practical information I could use when the timing is right. I am happy to have read the book with all of the great insight shared by the contributors. Without looking at new property, their input makes me look at our existing property in a completely different light. It was great information, with sound tips to put to use, and even provided contact information for submitting follow up questions and contacting the writers directly. Thank you for consolidating this wealth of information for people interested in the topic!
