My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

Tommy stared up at Greg and smiled like he was looking into the face of an angel. Greg had that effect on everyone. Something wonderful and happy arrived each time he did. He was hot chocolate on a frigid day and fuzzy socks on a cold morning.

The family portraits, once removed, were back in their place of honor, laid out like a game of solitaire on the entry wall. I'd always thought of them as personal greeters - kind of like visiting Wal-Mart and getting a friendly hello upon entering.

It was obvious why he sold millions of records. His voice alone could melt the pants off a frigid woman, but when you stirred that with sexual innuendo, no girl was safe.

His voice was like a poodle skirt - cute, and sweet, and all swishy.

This was the mom I'd longed for and in that moment, her arms seemed stronger than Superman, her compassion more than Mother Theresa, and her cunning could give the most talented con artist a run for his money.

My Review:

I enjoyed this clever second chance romance and found it to be among the best work I've read from Kelly Collins. It was a quick, sweet, relevant, and satisfying read that held my interest from beginning to end. The writing was easy to follow, entertaining, observant, insightful, and unfailingly engaging. The characters were endearingly flawed, well-meaning, and each had an interesting story to tell. Sprinkled with witty bits of humor and steam, the narrative was well balanced with regret over past mistakes (something we all carry), and hopes for betterment (something we all should have).

The trouble with this book...is that I didn’t really like the main characters. But I wanted to.

I am a sucker for second chance love stories, even more so if there’s a secret baby involved (just to be clear though, I’m only a fan of the secret child as a book plot...not in real life). However - and this might be minorly spoiler-ish - it was a little ambiguous in the synopsis about who the child’s father is. I was disappointed that it isn’t the hero of this book. It doesn’t really matter to me, but I was thinking that he was, so to discover that he wasn’t was a little disappointing.

Anyway, Beau and Mandy have known each other their whole lives. As the only children of parents who are best friends, and live across the street from each other, everyone in their small town of Bell Mountain just knew they belonged together. And that was their plan. Until Beau breaks up with Mandy, crushing her heart and her dreams with one phone call. Now it’s ten years later, and their meddling mothers are determined to help them make their way back to one another.

Between all their history, and a shared tragedy, it’s hard for Beau and Mandy to not still feel a connection. But a lot has happened during their time apart and they lead very different lives. Beau is a famous rock star based out of Los Angeles, and Mandy is a single mom with a career as a pastry chef in New York. There’s also the matter of how Beau broke things off with Mandy with no explanation…

While I really don’t like the whole “I’m breaking up with you for your own good” plot which is so often used in second chance romances (Does it EVER really make sense??? Couldn’t the situation be solved by having an actual conversation, and then realistically dealing with whatever could keep them apart???), but what was different here is that once our hero and heroine have a chance to talk, Mandy asks the hard question “Why did you break my heart?”, and Beau actually tells her. It doesn’t make it okay in Mandy’s eyes, but at least maybe she can start to understand it.

However, what looked like a promising story, then went off the rails. One minute Mandy doesn’t want anything to do with having a future with Beau, and then she has this grand epiphany where she all the sudden forgives him and wants to be with him. Then a couple of things come up - normal, everyday, stress inducing, life-type things - and their relationship is thrown off course. Here’s the thing...you want to see growth when people make mistakes. With the vision of hindsight, hopefully you learn something and make better choices the next time. But not this couple. Nope. They do the exact same thing to each other ten years later. And it’s hard to root for people who are dumber than a box of rocks. I wanted to like this story, but instead I was mostly just frustrated.

The author’s writing was fairly good, but it’s hard to like a book very much if you don’t like how the characters behave for a good portion of the book. Instead of getting me into the Christmas spirit, I ended this book feeling less ho-ho-ho and more bah-humbug.

Kelly Collins is definitely becoming my favourite contemporary romance authors. She writes amazing stories that are heartwarming and so beautiful. They make you of think warm summer nights, sun kissed moons and brightly lit stars. I just cannot help but fall deeply and irrevocable in love with her all of stories. The Trouble with Tinsel was one of my most favourite books from Kelly Collins. It was an amazing story that truly had me so enchanted.

The Trouble with Tinsel is a beautifully written story about second chances, redemption, letting go, love and pain. It was a heart warming filled with so much heart and emotion that I found myself very affected by the book. I was swooning. I was smiling. I was sad. I was so moved by the story. I felt every single emotion in this book. My soul and heart were irrevocably touched to the core. I do not read much of Christmas books but this book had a touch of Christmas love that it did not appear to be cheesy at all. It just delivered on angst and told a powerful love story that I was so pulled into the story itself.

The characters were so dynamic and real. Their emotions were neither forced nor rushed. I found myself loving them so much. Mandy has been through a lot but she had undeniable strength that made her such a likable character. There was a balance to her vulnerable side vs her strong side. I loved it. Beau was so loving and caring. I loved that he never backed down in pursuing his love for Mandy even thought he messed up in the past. It made quite outstanding in my eyes.

The Trouble with Tinsel was a touching story I simply adored. I am fast becoming a massive fan of Kelly Collins.

A cute, romantic story about two individuals given a second chance at love.

Many was hurt 10 years ago when her then boyfriend (and the love of her life) Beau left to follow his dreams and never returned. She tried to move on, but with her heart still in Beau it was impossible. Beau had his reasons for leaving Mandy, none of which are what they appear to be.

One conniving move by Mandy and Beau's mothers, brings the estranged couple home again right before the holidays. Beau is determined to make the most of this opportunity and vows that Mandy will fall in love with him all over again. Mandy is convinced that this will not happen and still thinks of Beau negatively for the way he walked out on her.

What I liked about this story was that the author didn't have Mandy and Beau fall right back into love with each other. Instead they had to work through what happened 10 years ago and what has happened since they last saw each other. They had to work through the reality of Beau's career and Mandy's son from a previous relationship. They had to learn to trust each other again...something that didn't come easy for either of them.

I absolutely adored this book.

10 years ago Beau Tinsel left his hometown and his girlfriend on a search for something bigger. With the understanding that he would come back home in a few moths. That is until the allure of fame became to much. At least that's what his girlfriend Mandy Sawyer thought the reason was. Now 10 years later they are both called home from their jobs when their mothers apparently had some bad accidents that left them needing help at home.

So now Beau is home from his career as a professional musician and Mandy is home with her son. When they both find out the other is home as well they have vastly different reactions. Beau is elated at the prospect of seeing her again and attempting to become best friends once more. Mandy is beyond terrified of the prospect of seeing her long ago flame that broke her heart. But thanks to the interference of two nosy moms, and even nosier neighbors they are given a chance at happiness once again. If only life would stop throwing them curve balls and putting them into near impossible situations.

I would definitely recommend this second chance romance story to all Collin readers, and all romance lovers.

What a delightful second chance at love Christmas Story with a HEA ending! I really enjoyed reading this one!

Mandy and Beau were childhood sweethearts that parted when he headed off to pursue his dream of making it big in the music industry. Mandy studied in Europe, had a child and found a job in New York working in the food industry when she had finished her culinary education. When their mothers worked together to finagle their children home to Bell Mountain for the holidays their hope was that Mandy and Beau would see one another and fall in love again. Well, it took more than a look and a whole lot happened before that made me think and wish and wonder and finally left me with a smile on my face.

I am hoping this might be the prequel to a series that will star Adam’s band members and that they will find their loves in Bell Mountain.

I would like to thank the author for the copy she sent me to read. This is my honest review.

This was a pretty good story. I liked Beau, Mandy and Tommy and liked their story. It was a nice reunion/holiday story.

Mandy is a chef that lives in New York and has a 6 year old son. Mandy learned to be a chef in Europe and met Tommy's father but he wasn't up for being a dad so she decided to raise him alone. Mandy's heart has always belonged to her first love that broke her heart so she's never gotten involved with anyone else.

Beau is a musician and the lead singer in a popular band. Beau is a good guy and doesn't really like the lifestyle and demand of the fans but he loves the music so he plays the part. But Beau's always loved the girl he left behind and every song he's written has been about her.

Mandy and Beau were childhood sweethearts and planned to be together forever. But Beau was a year older than Mandy and left to make music with the promise that she'd join him as soon as she graduated from High School. That never happened...for reasons that are best left to be discovered in the story. When the story begins, both Mandy and Beau's mothers have managed to convince them (separately) to come home for Christmas.

Beau and Mandy both try to push back on their mother's conniving but when they see each other, it changes everything. Old feelings come back and their separation takes on new meaning after 10 years of being apart. Beau is all for embracing their feelings and trying again but Mandy is more reluctant, especially when it comes to trusting Beau with her feelings and her son. But Beau and Tommy get along great and that takes away at least some of Mandy's excuse to push Beau away. Thankfully, it doesn't take too long before Beau convinces her to take a chance on them. There is a bit of drama at the end that almost messes up their reunion and to be honest, I wasn't thrilled with that part and probably would have rated the story better without that drama. It's not that I can't deal with drama...I just didn't think this was done well and it brought the story down for me. But it all does get worked out in the end and Beau, Mandy and Tommy become and family and Beau & Mandy finally get their HEA.

This was an enjoyable story. Mandy was a pretty good heroine. I liked her very much but there were a few points when her actions just seemed wrong (especially towards the end) and didn't work for me but I still liked her overall. Tommy was a good kid character and added beneficially to the story. Beau was a very good hero and I really liked him. As I mentioned, the end drama didn't work for me but outside of that, I did find the story to an enjoyable reunion/holiday romance. :)

This is a quiet little story about old love and a second chance to renew that. Beau and Mandy grew up together, living across the street from each other, and that friendship grew into love. Until the day Beau took his guitar and left town and never looked back. Mandy was heartbroken, went on to culinary school and is now a single mom to a 6 year old son. (I loved him) Mandy's mother owns the bake shop in town and when she falls and hurts her wrist Mandy reluctantly returns to Colorado to help out over the Christmas holidays. Nothing in the house has changed since she was a child, her father died ice fishing with Beau's Dad. Their mothers are best friends. Beau's mother summons him home for the holidays as well. Making up a story, he comes home. He's a famous musician now, has a band and hasn't been home in 10 years. Mandy isn't happy to see him when he walks into the bake shop. I'm not sure what kind of welcome he was expecting but not so sure I would have even given him a word. For as hard as Mandy is on Beau, Beau is absolutely taken with her son. He wants a Dad.
These two are two peas in a pod and it's their relationship that slowly warms Mandy up. Beau is determined to win her back forever. He gets there... almost. I don't do spoilers. Read the book.
This is another great story by Kelly Collins who can tell you everything you need to know and more and give you all the feels in one short book. It's her talent. One minute I wanted to throttle them both, the next minute I was just loving them. The twists were nicely placed and wow!
This one is a keeper and YES I would love to read about Cole and his Christmas!!

Mandy Sawyer lives in New York with her son, Tommy, when she is called back to her hometown to help her mom run her store, The Sweet Shop after her mom injures her wrist. She has avoided coming back since the love of her life, Beau Tinsel, walked out of her life.

Beau Tinsel walked away from Mandy 10 years ago to become a rock star. He has regretted it every minute since then and when his mom tricks him into returning home for the holidays he realizes it may be a set up when Mandy is also home.

Will Beau be able to convince Mandy that he deserves a second chance? How will Mandy deal with everything knowing she also has to put Tommy's considerations into place? When a situation arises how will Mandy deal with everything when the roles are reversed?

I really enjoyed this Christmas tale on love and forgiveness. One thing I really liked was the look into what someone says and then how we twist it around to read into it what we think they mean. That is something that most of us regularly do.

Another part I liked was how both Beau and Mandy's moms really knew how much the kids cared about each other and that they just needed to be together to sort everything out. The issues with Mandy's mom that were revealed were heartbreaking and I was glad they were finally able to sort things out.

I understand why Mandy was hesitant but I was glad that she was able to work through her hesitation and give Beau a chance. I loved the way Beau was with Tommy and I wish there were more men out there like that!

Great book to get you in the Christmas spirit!

After many years of one’s true love lost with lots going on in between these two come face to face again when others get busy trying to reunite their children for one last chance at the one who got away. A lot can happen in 10 years but true love only gets stronger. Beau walked away from his true love for her own good but now he is back coming face to face and he isn’t about to let her go this time. Mandy moved to Paris to get over Beau only to return home making a new life for her and her son. Coming face to face with Beau bends her heart leaving not only her but her son madly in love with him.

This really was a very touching read with wonderful characters you can relate to. I love second chance love stories. Sometimes they do come true. What is better or maybe worse than two mothers getting together to bring their children back for another shot at love. I loved these two women and they love they have for their children. I loved the plot how it was laid out, the chemistry between the MC and the love they lost being reborn. The pull is strong but can they make it work this time around.

This was really very well written with wonderful characters and a heartwarming plot that I got lost in. I really enjoy Ms. Collins writing talents she has a way of bring the characters to life giving them meaning that really touches you heart.

>Book Review – The Trouble with Tinsel

>I am an independent reviewer. This is a standalone novel with an HEA. Second chance love hits Beau and Mandy after 10 years apart. Beau is now a famous musician and Mandy is a single mom. Beau and Mandy’s mothers get together to coerce their children to return home in an effort at matchmaking.

>Mandy was really hurt by the way Beau left her. Most of the story is Beau trying to get back in to her good graces. The small town busy bodies are really funny. I especially loved the fact that everyone knew Beau would crawl into Mandy’s bedroom window at night, so they’d leave him a ladder. Mandy’s son, Tommy is a very cute kid. He ties all of the adults together. I wish we had a little more clarity on Mandy’s relationship with Tommy’s father. She mentioned she slept with him because he reminded her of Beau, but I wondered if they had an actual relationship or just a one night stand.

>The theme of things being more important than people was an important one. A lot of people can relate to losing treasured items, but when you realize your family is safe, the loss isn’t as tragic. I wasn’t sure how this HEA would happen with Beau and Mandy’s very different lives, but I loved the wrap up. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the book 5 stars.

A Christmas story about second chance with love “The Trouble with Tinsel” by Kelly Collin. I enjoyed reading this book which was first time at reading anything by this author.

What happens when misunderstandings can change one’s life?

Ten years ago two young loves were separated with one following their dreams and another one letting go for their soulmate to follow their dreams.

Mandy left home with a broken heart and went to culinary school in Europe. There she met another man who could not commit. She and her son live in New York where she is working but when her mom had an accident brings them back to Bell Mountain to help the family business. She never wanted to see the man who never came back for her years earlier but it appears others have their own agendas.

Beau Tinsel left but had every intention of coming back for the love of his life when we pursued his dream of making it big in the music industry. When his mother told him years earlier that Mandy left and was pregnant, Beau thought she was married and was living her HEA. Now that he is home because of his mother’s fake accident and determine to get things rectified with the only woman who holds his heart.

Faith has a way of bring two souls together during the holiday season……will these two loves find their HEA……must read.

Mandy was living in New York City with her son, Tommy, when she was summoned home to Bell Mountain to help her mother after a fall. Her mother tells her Beau Tinsel, the love of Mandy's life, is coming home after he has been away for 10 years. Mandy and Beau grew up across the street from each other. Beau is a singer and has achieved a high level of success but he has never gotten over Mandy either. Beau's mother wants him to come clean with Mandy about the reason her never returned home 10 years ago. When Beau tells Mandy he would like to talk to her they both realize they have unresolved feelings. The more time they spend together it appears the old feelings are still there. It touches Mandy how good Beau is with her son and they are trying to figure out a way to be together. But Beau has just signed a contract that will keep him in California for 3 years. Can they find a way to be together or are they determined to repeat the same mistakes. This story characters and an interesting story. I reviewed and ARC of the book and this is my honest opinion.

A lighthearted second chances romance, The Trouble With Tinsel pushes all the knobs for a great story. When two mothers get together with the desire to see their children happy, they use all the manipulative skills they have honed as mothers over the decades. Their endeavours are successful and Beau and Mandy find themselves back in Bell Mountain for Christmas. When there is a deep well of hurt in both hearts, the initial meeting was bound to be uncomfortable. Despite Mandy's resolve never to get caught again by Beau's sweet words, she didn't take her son Tommy into account. Tommy takes to Beau and all bets are off. With the whole town rooting for them, Beau and Mandy find themselves under the spotlight, and it's not a comfortable place to be. I loved the wit and humour in the story as well as the pathos as memories are relived and rehashed. The characters in this story are all delightful and I especially enjoyed Misty's recounting of her failed marriage. A thoroughly enjoyable read with a feel-good ending.

The Trouble With Tinsel is a sweet second chance romance. It also deals with the importance of family and the aftermath of loss. Mandy and Beau are likable characters and I rooted for them to get their HEA. Tommy is precious and the glue that holds the story together. How could Mandy not give Beau a second chance after watching Beau and Tommy together? Beau has so many qualities that make him a great guy. *sigh*

Mandy and her mother have had a strained relationship for years. Annie is passive/aggressive. I was pleased to see this issue was addressed and they were able to clear the air. They were on the way to a healthy relationship.

There are several secondary characters in the story that I hope get their own book. I mean, The Bads will be coming to town! Perfect situation for romances with the ladies of Bell Mountain. I will definitely read them if the author makes this a series.

I highly recommend reading The Trouble With Tinsel.

A Perfect Blend of Steamy Romance & Heartfelt Family Love for the Holidays

I LOVED this book! I found myself unable to put it down. I'm not sure if it's my own dream of being a baker, having a mother much like Mandy's, or my love of the holidays, but I was so immersed in the story-line and setting of this book. Everything just seems to get better as you progress through the story and I really loved how the perspectives go back and forth between the main love interests. Overall a wonderful little holiday read that is just spicy enough with a lot of heartfelt romance. It also helps that Beau Tinsel is pretty much perfect <3

This is a wonderful book, that is so good that I stayed up way too late reading it because I could not put it down. It is a story of second chances, the cutest little boy ever, the grandmas, family, love, pinecone wishes, and Christmas. It is a beautiful story of love. This book grabbed my heart on page one and kept giving it little squeezes throughout. I received this book from the author, but I volunteered to write this completely honest review. I loved it, and I highly recommend it.

Beau Tinsel - Lead singer of BT and Bads. When he left Bell Mountain, he took Mandy Sawyers heart and never returned till now. This delightful novel is well developed with no plot holes. The character's are realistic with real emotions and flaws. A second chance romantic that is sexy with a bit of humour. A sweet tale of love & redemption during Christmas season. Perfect read during the holiday season.

The Trouble With Tinsel

With two meddling moms add a dash of Christmas magic can there be forgiveness and a second chance at love? This story was about two people who were childhood sweethearts. He left to pursue a career in music. She finally got out of town, in the opposite direction. Now ten years later their mom's being them back. But she has a son who is not his. Can the magic still be there in Christmas wishes?

This was just okay-a cute story but it moved too fast and there was hardly any conflict. The best parts were the interactions between tommy, mandy, and beau, and the tension between mandy and her mom. But the romance and chemistry...fell really flat.

BUT i will say that if you want a heartwarming read, this is a safe bet. It's not stressful at all and its very warm and fuzzy.

This is a sweet story of second chances. Both Beau and Mandy think they sacrificed their life together so that they could follow their dreams. Now, 10 years later, can they recover what they had given up and find true love together? I loved characters, esp Tommy. This is a sweet story with an HEA. I really enjoyed it! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I love to read Christmas stories all year long and this one was so good. Beau and Mandy, high school sweethearts separated good intentions. This is such a down to earth, real life what can really go on story. I love Tommy and Beau together and of course the sweethearts and all the "grandma's".
